In this episode, FSA speaks with the president of the National Sheriffs Association (NSA), Canyon County Sheriff Kieran Donahue. Now serving his fourth term, Sheriff Donahue talks about the pride he has in serving and protecting the citizens of his county. We learn about the special features of Canyon County, Idaho, and why he ran and was then successfully elected the 84th president of NSA. Preserving the history of Idaho is not easy or cheap, and finding the money to preserve historic objects can be challenging. However, that isn't keeping the Canyon County from making it a priority.
Canyon County is small in size but big in farming.
Canyon County farmer Sid Freeman, farms 250 acres just outside Middleton in southwest Idaho.
Sheriff Kieran Donahue of Canyon County, Idaho, will tell you it's humbling to be a Sheriff that's responsible for a jurisdiction that encompasses 602 square miles, with a population of close to 250,000, but then again, Sheriff Donahue is no ordinary Sheriff. Sheriff Kieran Donahue's career reads like an adventure novel and maybe that's because it's been just that. From an Alaskan Fish & Game Warden, to a scuba diver on the Exxon Valdez, to working undercover on the Federal Task Force, he'll also tell you that his career has been undeniably directed by God. As Sheriff Donahue prepares to take on a fourth term for Canyon County, he's been privileged to also hold his current role as President of the National Sheriffs' Association, oh and let's not forget that he's also a subject matter expert on the Mexican Cartels, their relationship with China, the Northern and Southern borders, and the people and drugs that are being smuggled into the United States, on a daily basis.
The Chief discusses school safety efforts in Caldwell and in Canyon County.
We all know the pink ribbon that signifies support for Breast Cancer. But did you know there's another color ribbon that's just as significant? It's the purple ribbon of Domestic Violence. In 2012, in Nampa, Idaho, Sheriff Kieran Donahue of Canyon County approached his wife, Jeanie, and suggested they launch an organization to raise funds for those affected by domestic violence. In his line of work, Sheriff Donahue had encountered both women and men in the throes of intimate partnership violence and he wanted to be a changemaker. Having grown up as a fourth-generation cattleman, Sheriff Donahue was raised with the cowboy codes that included the saying, ‘man up', meaning, be man enough to deal with a difficult situation. Thus the Man Up Crusade was born. EVERY day in the U.S., 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men are the victims of severe physical violence by an intimate partner. Man Up Crusade partners with local community events such as rodeos, and fairs to promote safe and healthy relationships through education, advocacy, and funding. Currently, Man Up Crusade has a presence in 18 States and is also supported by the Western States Sheriffs' Association.
On the latest episode of Protecting America, Canyon County, Idaho Sheriff Kieran Donahue, President of the National Sheriffs' Association, joins Rita Cosby to discuss the biggest issues confronting law enforcement in our country, including battling open borders, fentanyl, cartels and combating domestic violence. Nate Shelman was joined by Canyon County Sherriff Kieran Donahue about whether or not Canyon County needs a new jail to control the uptick in crimes from repeat offenders. The Sherriff also discussed what the best way to fund a jail would be. (1/25/23)
In recent days we have not only seen an uptick in gang crimes in Canyon County, and a report from the Nampa Police that a lot of the violent crimes are committed by repeat offenders, but now we have a story that a man who crossed state lines to kidnap an eleven year old girl from Nampa has now been released after only nine months in jail. While a new jail would help in Canyon County, this issue also resides with the judges that have let these criminals out of jail. Canyon County Sherriff Kieran Donahue joined Nate Shelman to discuss why this problem exists, the benefits to building a new jail, and how to fund a new jail. What are your thoughts? (1/25/23)
Well, The US Government has maxed out their credit cards. Republicans want to figure out how to spend less while raising the debt ceiling, while Democrats want to raise the debt ceiling with no conditions. What are your thoughts? After that discussion Nate asks: Should he apply for one of the vacancies in Boise City Council? Moving things to Canyon County, there seems to be a gang problem. In Nampa, police have released a statement saying that most violent crimes are gang related. In Caldwell, a high school student was made to turn her Brown Pride sweatshirt inside out over concerns it was gang attire. Other students are rallying behind her saying she was simply being proud of her heritage. Canyon County, how do we address these issues? (1/19/23)

Well, Boise City Councilwoman Lisa Sanchez says she feels like a ghost. Listen to the beginning of this podcast to hear why she feels like she's being left out. Also happening in Boise, more bikes. Or at least a proposal to make Capitol Boulevard more cyclist and pedestrian friendly. ACHD is asking for people's feedback on the proposed plan. Moving to Canyon County, two of the three Canyon County Commissioners have voted in a new comprehensive land use plan. Some people are mad about it because this means that farmers can only sell their lands to other farmers. What are your thoughts? (10/17/22)

What do all of the Canyon County Dutch Bros and Mesa Tacos have in common? They have the same owner! Meet the fabulous Andrew and Shayna Randall. It was so fun to chat with this inspiring couple. They have innovation with no limits and a heart of gold to serve and empower their employees as well as make an impact in our Canyon County where it is needed. They were told that 2C is a horrible place to start a business back in 2007, but they took that as a challenge and now has proved them wrong with 9 successful Dutch Bros Coffee drive throughs and a Nampa favorite, Mesa Tacos Restaurant. I know you are going to love getting to know this couple, join me for this fun conversation. Andrew and Shayna Randall both began their journey with Dutch Bros Coffee in 2004, when the first Dutch Bros location opened in their hometown of Redding, CA. They both were hired on for the original crew while they were in college, shortly after started dating and were married in 2005. Management opportunities came as more locations opened in Redding with each of them becoming a store manager; eventually leading to positions with the Dutch Bros HQ "All Star Team", allowing Andrew & Shayna the opportunity to travel to the western seven states, opening new locations for new franchisees and training new employees. It was very apparent that the Randalls’ knew what they wanted their future to look like, so they began their journey to becoming franchisees, leading them to Idaho! In December 2007, they opened their first location on Cleveland and Ustick. In February of 2011 that Caldwell location became the top grossing location in Dutch Bros history. On August 21st, 2012, the Randall’s opened their second location in neighboring Nampa, ID. By July 2013 it had already topped Ustick's sales and took the #1 Spot for top grossing Dutch Bros Location Company wide. On October 24th, 2013, the second Nampa location opened on Idaho Center Blvd and has quickly gained momentum and has landed in the top 25 grossing stands company-wide with their other two locations in the top three out of 230 locations. On May 27th, 2015, the third Nampa stand opened on 12th Ave Rd. Additionally, a second Caldwell location on Specht opened on September 15, 2017, and has quickly gained a reputation. On July 1st, 2020, the Randalls acquired two Dutch Bros Meridian locations, and one Eagle, ID locations. Additionally, opened a location near the Marketplace in Nampa, ID, on March 5th, 2021. Currently they have nine total Dutch Bros Locations, and several more slated to open in 2022. Andrew and Shayna have also been in various work group and committees for Dutch Bros HQ, including marketing, operations, growth, design, and product development. This includes being on a small team of six people that created the Dutch Bros energy drink, Blue Rebel; sold exclusively at Dutch Bros locations and makes up for more than 20% of sales company wide. Additionally, Andrew is also responsible for the building design that is now used as the official building of DB Franchising, USA. With a love for their community and a need for something new, Andrew and Shayna made the decision to open Mesa Tacos + Tequila in downtown Nampa. Known for its lively tequila menu, and unordinary tacos, Mesa has gained a reputation for being “THE&rd
