According to the US Census Bureau by the year 2034 more Americans will be over the age of 65 (numbering some 77-million people), than under the age of 18. That will be a first for our nation and it underscores the importance of communities enhancing the quality and volume of senior-oriented support services. Dr. Greg talks with Kristy Stambaugh - director of Aging and Disability Services for the city of Lexington. She tells us all about the programs on offer at the city's four senior centers (Life Lane, Bell Court, Charles Young and Black & Williams Cultural Center) and shares more details on a brand new one coming to Shillito Park in 2026.

Charles Young - Director of Basketball Performance at Fresno State University - joins us for the 10th episode of MTN. On this episode of the podcast, Charles explains his yearly overview of training at Fresno St, how he incorporates the Quadrant System to help organize training throughout the year, the role that technology has helped him understand what is really important within training and the mistakes he has made in the past, and the LTAD approach that is crucial yet tough to grasp within college basketball (or any college sport now). Charles's journey within performance is fascinating - starting with a brutal injury that set him down a path to help others - and we think that anyone (whether in basketball or not) can take something away from his experience. In 2022, US Army COL Charles Young was posthumously promoted to brigadier general – a rank he likely would have advanced to during World War I. In 1917 he was the highest ranking African American officer in the US Army. A veteran of the 1916 Mexican Expedition, his name even appeared on a list of the campaign's officers that GEN John J. Pershing recommended for future brigade command. Then, months into World War I, he was controversially sidelined after failing a medical exam. To discuss Young's career and why he was sidelined in World War I, the World War I Podcast hosted Dr. David Kilroy, author of For Race and Country: The Life and Career of Colonel Charles Young. Advance warning! This episode is for adults only and contains a fair amount of swearing. In this episode, I share the very 'raw' & 'honest' conversation I had with Charles Young who created LACES - an educational programme which was developed by Charles in 1994. It offers educational and practical support to vulnerable young people of all ages. Since 1994, Charles has spoken to thousands of young people on the subject of Drugs and alcohol and how a life of crime can affect individuals, their family and friends, and the victims. Charles' message is clear and simple "Don't Follow a criminal path as I did".

This person was Colonel Charles Young, the first Black superintendent of a U.S. National Park. In 1903, he oversaw construction and development at Sequoia National Park and a portion of Kings Canyon national park, working to protect California's natural habitats while increasing their accessibility to the public, and securing more land in the national parks for future generations.

Show Notes In the news, we covered the Theodore Roosevelt Library and Museum that has been proposed for Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota. See the designs and read the rationale here. We then talked about the National Park Service sign font that you can now download for free, thanks to a man who took rubbings of signs and digitized them. There's also the NPS Rodeway font. The National Scenic Byways Act is close to congressional appropriation after lapsing for several years. Great news for RV travelers who like to head down these historic roads. And this week's America's National Parks Podcast covers the life of Buffalo Soldier hero Charles Young, who became the first Black superintendent of a National Park, among his many other accomplishments in the face of a society that looked down upon people of color. After the break and the answer to last week's brain teaser, we covered a bevy of some random RV thoughts and tips. The first being to check your RV's oil on a level surface, especially with a big diesel engine that holds a lot of oil. The dipstick reading can be off drastically on even the slightest incline. In an update to Outdoor Newbies episode, Abby talked about two sites great for families exploring the outdoors—HikeItBaby.com and KidsInParks.com. We closed out the segment talking about the most common spot for RV damage (the passenger side upper front corner and whether or not bleach is safe to use in an RV (spoiler: it is). After the final break, Abby let loose on her mixed feelings about getting back into the bus, and her expectations for perfect RV travel. How do you let the phony reality of Instagram and Pinterest go, and just live for the campfire?
