On this Friday edition of Sid & Friends in the Morning, Sid is cocksure that we here at 77 WABC have the inside scoop when it comes to where Mayor Eric Adams plans on shipping his migrants next. Curtis Sliwa is our investigative reporter on this, and so far he has not missed when it comes to his speculation. In other news of the day, the Mayor also held a press conference yesterday regarding crime in the city, Senator Dianne Feinstein's medical condition is a lot worse than anyone had originally thought, China is apparently ready for full-fledged war at any given moment, and the fight to keep AM radios in all motor vehicles trucks on. Joann Ariola, Curtis Sliwa, Chanel Omari, Noam Laden, Gordon Chang, Greg Kelly and Dick Jerardi join the program on this Friday installment of New York's top-rated morning show. Scottish producer, author and Industrial music legend Chris Connelly has an extensive musical career and collaboration that spans four decades which started with his first band, FiniTribe to other industrial groups such as the Revolting Cocks, Ministry, Pigface, Damage Manual, PTP to newer collectives such as The Joy Thieves and Cocksure just to name a few. As an author, he released four books, encompassing the realms of poetry, autobiography and fictional narrative. His latest production and collaboration is with Monica Queen, lead vocalist of the 90s band- Thrum. The new collaboration album, written by Connelly is called The Birthday Poems, released on Jnana Records last month, a fictionalized account of the romance between Scottish Personalities and poet George Mackay Brown and his muse Stella Cartwright and their friend, Stanley Roger Green. All three were prominent figures in Scottish literature and culture since the 1950s who frequented the historical Rose Street Bars of Edinburgh. The Birthday Poems was produced by Chris Bruce who has worked with artists such as Seal, Aaron Neville, Bob Dylan, The Waterboys, Cheryl Crow and many others. The description of the Birthday Poems and to purchase the album can be found on www.thebirthdaypoems.com For Chris Connelly, art only moves forward. For almost forty years, he has completed creative pieces ranging from the triumphant to the tragic, from the humble to the hilarious, each time promptly moving on to seek his next inspiration. www.chrisconnelly.comThe video Interview is also available on Youtube : https://www.youtube.com/djnocturnaQUEEN OF WANDS with DJ Nocturna Every Saturday on MODSNAP Alternative RadioKMOD: San AntonioListen : http://modsnapradio.comPlaylist and podcast:
In a 1933 essay lamenting the rise of Nazism in Germany, Bertrand Russell wrote: "The fundamental cause of the trouble is that in the modern world the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt.” Which is of course a dynamic that's still at play in the modern world; the Dunning-Kruger effect is a thing, and one need only to look at American presidents to see that there's little relationship between one's intelligence and how far they can rise if they get it in their heads that they ought to be in charge of things. But I think a much bigger factor in the problems our world faces is not so much about intelligence as empathy. Reading by Tim Foley. Chris Connelly special talking about life in music, Finitribe, the Revolting Cocks, Ministry & much much more Chris Connelly became famous for his industrial music work of the late 1980s and early 1990s, particularly his involvement with the Revolting Cocks and Ministry. He has since established himself as an alternative singer-songwriter, and continues to release solo albums. Connelly began his music career in 1980 with the formation of Finitribe. Through subsequent years he fronted or was heavily involved with numerous notable industrial, dance, and new wave acts. In 2008, Connelly published a memoir of his early years in the music industry, Concrete, Bulletproof, Invisible, and Fried: My Life As A Revolting Cock. It describes his professional debut in Finitribe, meeting Al Jourgensen in London, his involvement with the Revolting Cocks, Ministry, PTP, Acid Horse, Killing Joke, and Pigface, and the development of his solo career. In contrast to his industrial roots, Connelly explored various genres in his solo works. In 2013, he has started two projects more in the vein of industrial: Cocksure, with Jason C. Novak (Czar and Acumen Nation), and Bells into Machines, with Paul Barker (Ministry, Revolting Cocks, and Lard).

"either a very bad joke or an insult" [SILV] We occasionally hear "Mr. Cocksure" and "jack-in-office" thrown about as epithets in the Sherlock Holmes stories. But by and large, there is very little profanity in these Victorian and early Edwardian detective tales. But Sherlock Holmes manages to insult and put down some of his rivals, in a decidedly cool and casual way. Explore the sometimes harsh language that was meant to insult in this episode of Trifles. The industrial music-heavy festival Cold Waves was started four years ago by Jason Novak (Acumen Nation, Czar, Acucrack, Cocksure) as a way for the community to rally after respected colleague Jamie Duffy took his life in June, 2012. Cold Waves continues to grow and gather momentum each year. This year's event (9/23-9/24 at Metro) is stacked, featuring performances from Meat Beat Manifesto, Clock DVA, The Cocks, Pig, 16Volt and more. The kickoff show on 9/22 at Double Door features nothing less than the 30th anniversary performance of the reunited Stabbing Westward. For this episode, Novak sits shotgun for a trip to the Fulton Market location of taqueria/sandwich shop Cemitas Puebla. To summarize: The tacos are poquito and the cemitas have a grande amount of bread. Over dinner, Novak talks about the evolution of Cold Waves, focusing on the memory of Jamie Duffy ("I think he would have been overjoyed at this"). He says the success of Cold Waves feels bittersweet ("You're constantly reminded that this shouldn't even be happening"). We also talk about Cold Waves kickoff band Stabbing Westward's ascent in the 90s. Novak says, "I remember (Acumen) being the junior version chasing after them." We chat about the 90s scene, industrial music, Wax Trax, Revolting Cocks, and Pop Will Eat Itself. Novak also talks about his charity, Darkest Before Dawn, which aims to provide support to Chicago's service industry and live entertainment workers, people whose schedules and isolation leave them "susceptible to depression, anxiety and suicide."

This is a vegetarian episode, as sadly there is no T-bone in this one. To begin this week, you guessed it, we discuss the word "cocksure". We get a bit distracted during the discussion: we consider the "universal opposite", and discuss why gruntled, flammable, and famous can't be made into antonyms with the usual prefixes. When we try to get back on topic, we end up chatting about "Happy Days". Then we discover the imitative origin of the words "cock" and "Warren". This reminds Warren of one of his co-workers who schedules "evening" meetings at 2 pm. We've censored random words in this discussion for no good reason at all. Our assumption is that your imagination is much funnier than our actual conversation. If you're feeling shitsure and think you know what the opposite of "says" is, email us with your suggestion (maskedman@limitedappeal.net). Theme music courtesy of General Patton vs. The X-Ecutioners and Ipecac Recordings.
