Splash Stories welcomes Chris Connelly talking from his home in Chicago for a memorable musical memoir amongst the streets the guts and the character of Edinburgh. His latest 8 track album 'The Lives and Loves of the Serial Homesick, Vol. 1'  is a paean to his city- and a beautiful and profound one at that - capturing the essence of his love for it through his music his art and his heartfelt lyricism.. Each album comes with its own drawing created by Connelly himself. In Connelly's words : " the album is rich with strong feelings of then and now, memories that may or may not be accurate, locations, events, friends and lovers. I want the listener to walk with me quietly through endless days and nights, through the streets of Edinburgh in the early 1980s, over the tenement rooftops, up the hills with cans of Red Stripe and a well stoked hash pipe. Sitting in the Wee Red Bar, Bannermans, The Gilded Balloon, or the Royal Circus. Playing endless nights of music with my beloved Fini Tribe, dancing at the Hoochie Coochie Club. I miss it badly and have never felt at home anywhere except Edinburgh, where my soul continues to walk the New Town streets and climb the hills,"Check it all out and enjoy his reminiscences too in our Splash Stories conversation'Fini Chagall' https://youtu.be/JWBTtdYPDqM'The Lives and Loves of the Serial Homesick, Vol. 1' albumhttps://chrisconnelly.bandcamp.com/album/the-lives-and-loves-of-the-serial-homesick-volume-1Spotify https://open.spotify.com/album/4jknruEhGgIBakqdA381lWApple Music https://music.apple.com/us/album/the-lives-and-loves-of-the-serial-homesick-vol-1/1733352012Amazonhttps://www.amazon.com/music/player/albums/B0CWN3WW9RLATEST RELEASES'The Birthday Poems' album feat. Mastered by Noah Mintz, the cover art was created by Stephen Seto (Splintercage). We are joined by BAD OMENS guitarist Joakim "Jolly" Karlsson and DERISION CULT mainman Dave MCANALLY on this week's edition of The Loaded Radio Podcast Hailing from Richmond, Virginia, BAD OMENS emerged onto the American rock scene in 2015, founded by the trio of vocalist and producer Noah Sebastian, guitarist Nicholas Ruffilo, and bassist Vincent Riquier. The band expanded its lineup with the addition of guitarist Joakim "Jolly" Karlsson and drummer Nick Folio. Their inaugural self-titled album, released in 2016 under Sumerian Records, garnered critical acclaim, setting the stage for their musical journey. BAD OMENS would continue their sonic exploration with the release of "Finding God Before God Finds Me" in 2019, accompanied by a deluxe version in 2020. The momentum surged with their third album, "The Death of Peace of Mind," unleashed in 2022. This release featured the sleeper hit "Just Pretend," marking a significant milestone in BAD OMENS' career as their biggest hit to date. In the podcast, "Jolly" discusses the band's creative process, the upcoming tour with BRING ME THE HORIZON and much more. On a contrasting note, DERISION CULT emerges as an industrial metal project hailing from Chicago, Illinois. Propelled by caustic lyrics and thrash guitars immersed in a dystopian soundscape, their albums serve as poignant reflections of contemporary societal challenges. Fronted by Dave McAnally, DERISION CULT's lyrical focus delves into themes of manipulation and media influence perpetuated upon the public. In an age where news and discourse aim more to evoke emotions than stimulate critical thinking, DERISION CULT takes a stand. Th second portion of the podcast features DERISION CULT mastermind Dave McAnally who discusses the outfit's latest LP, "Mercenary Notes Pt 1". Exploring the ongoing narrative of "Mercenary Notes Pt 1", DERISION CULT delves into the pervasive themes of overstimulation and corporate-driven manipulation within the public sphere, all aimed at boosting product sales. With an extensive background in the advertising industry, mainman Dave McAnally draws upon decades of firsthand experiences to craft a collection of tracks that serves as a survival guide for navigating the challenges of maintaining mental health in a media-saturated world intent on stirring hysteria and sensationalism among the masses. Joining forces with producer Sean Payne, who contributes the classic Glitch Mode Chicago Industrial sound to the tracks, Dave McAnally shares his vision for pushing the boundaries of production quality. "Mercenary Notes Pt 1" boasts a star-studded lineup of guest contributors, including Chris Connelly (MINISTRY, PIGFACE), Reeves Gabrels (David Bowie, THE CURE), and Justin Broadrick (GODFLESH). Chris Connelly takes the lead vocals on one of the album's standout singles, "Deaf Blood," a track accompanied by an animated video crafted by Empire Animate based in Vancouver. The infusion of diverse talents further enriches DERISION CULT's sonic landscape, elevating the project to new heights within the industrial metal genre. In a musical landscape marked by both the dynamic rock soundscapes of BAD OMENS and the industrial metal resonance of DERISION CULT, these two projects offer contrasting yet equally impactful perspectives on the contemporary challenges facing society. While BAD OMENS reaches new heights with their melodic prowess, DERISION CULT digs deep into the gritty complexities of modern existence, creating a unique dichotomy within the realm of American rock and metal.

“The Last Mile” The Scottish-born Chris Connelly got his start with the electronic outfit Finitribe. Championed by John Peel, the inventive band did a long and harrowing UK in '88 and so arduous that tour was, it led to the shedding of three members, including Connelly, who left for the U.S. and landed in Chicago, where he fell in with the Revolting Cocks and Ministry. Connelly had hung out with the latter's Al Jourgensen in London so he knew him a bit, but once Connelly hit the states, he really immersed himself in the Wax Trax-powered industrial scene. Over the course of his career, Connelly has been affiliated with Pigface, Ministry, The Revolting Cocks, Die Warzau, Acid Horse, KMFDM, The Joy Thieves, PTP and The Damage Manual. And my friends, that's a partial list. His almost thirty album-long solo discography is a knockout, containing classic albums like Whiplash Boychild Shipwreck and Graveyard Sex. His newest effort Eulogy To Christa is a moving, stirring and deeply satisfying homage to Nico. Comprised of covers and original compositions, Eulogy To Christa is a heartfelt tribute to a fascinating artist. www.chrisconnelly.com www.bombshellradio.com Stereo Embers The Podcast www.stereoembersmagazine.com www.alexgreenonline.com IG: @emberspodcast

Our second premiere of the day comes from Closer Orbit as he releases an EP on Detroit's Motech Records. 'Rave Things' is an ode to Detroit, as Closer Orbit channels the classic slamming groove, combined with deep and soulful undertones. Detroit's Motech Records welcomes Nicolaas Black to the fold, as he unveils his newest project Closer Orbit with the ‘Rave Things EP'. A four track project that see Nico return to the roots of his sound and to the basics of techno funk. Nico has a long musical history, from his exposure to opera and classical at a young age to the experimental explosion in the 90s via artists like Front 242, KMFDM, 808 State, Nitzer Ebb and NIN. After attending his first illegal rave in Detroit, he learned to mix vinyl and the progression to a dancefloor aesthetic was sealed. His instinct led to a 6 year sojourn in Chicago, where he was fortunate to meet some of the seminal pioneers of house, and began assisting studio sessions at Slang Music Group - Frankie Knuckles, Paul Johnson, Joe Smooth, Ron Carroll, Craig Loftus and Vince Lawrence, amongst others. Later he worked for Mark Picchiotti at Blueplate Records, rounding out his 4-on-the-floor education. He also engineered a “Pigface” album for Martin Atkins of P.I.L. fame, solidifying his industrial roots. Countless DJ sets, raves, festivals and recording sessions later, he is now based in Los Angeles and stays committed to the studio and impromptu surf missions. A consummate producer, under several monikers his music and sets bridge the width of the underground dance music spectrum, from Chicago to Detroit, Berlin to LA; from techno to electro, jazz to funky house, disco, acid, industrial and beyond. His reproduction of Fela Kuti's ‘Zombie' remains a seminal warehouse favourite and 2020's ‘The Sun' has to-date racked up well over a million plays on SoundCloud. Priding himself on constant evolution and growth, he presents his Closer Orbit incarnation. ‘Rave Things EP' releases on 17 June, and features 4 new tracks that draw from his many influences including the monster house opener ‘Piano Track' and melodious ‘State Of (I Still Believe)', to the Detroitesque ‘Rave Things,' before the deep and synthy ‘Foldspace' closes this varied and reflective EP. 'Rave Things' is a peak time dance-floor bliss, as Nico works a 909 to the fullest and stabs and strings simmer around the front of the tracks soundscape. This is techno at it's rawest, funkiest and best. Lou Reed is the God of Rock & Roll, and his earth-shattering epic album "Magic and Loss" addresses mortality, pain, suffering, death, cancer, morphine, circumcision, and so much more, all in one effort. It is my favorite Lou Reed album, and it also happens to be the fave of Chris Connelly. Chris Connelly is no stranger to most people, he has played in Ministry, Revolting Cocks, Pigface, and various other projects that seem to have no end. Chris and I decided to discuss this album and why it made such a dent in our lives. He covered one of the songs from the record, and we just let Lou Re ed have the respect he deserved.
