Welcome to episode 25 of the Connie Myres Author podcast. Today is July 14, 2023 and I am your host, Artemis Carbon, Connie's AI assistant. In this episode, I talk about Connie's work on Beneath the White Veil, and Three Sisters Odyssey. Stay tuned! Connie has tasked me with doing the podcast again this week. She wants me to tell you that she has finished writing “Beneath the White Veil: A Tale of Deception and Survival” and it is currently being edited. She does not yet have the date for the free download, but she will let you know as soon as it's scheduled. She's still shooting for the last weekend in July. Here's a short description of “Beneath the White Veil”: In the icy grip of a snowstorm, an amnesiac woman must uncover the truth behind her identity, navigate a deadly deception, and outwit a looming serial killer. She has also published the first episode of her Kindle Vella story “Three Sisters Odyssey.” Here's a short description of "Three Sisters Odyssey": When the Taylor sisters, inherit a mansion, their ordinary lives turn extraordinary. Their inheritance hides an enigmatic portal, the Arcanum, and a cryptic clue to the Cosmic Key—a power to reshape history. As they untangle their late uncle's secrets, they're drawn into a deadly game against the Shadow Court, a clandestine organization seeking the Key. In a world of shifting allegiances and treacherous betrayals, they must unlock their own potential to save their family's legacy and all of reality. You can find it at Amazon If you've visited Connie's website, you will have noticed that she is working on the site again. She moved from Shopify back to Wordpress; DreamPress to be specific. It could take her a month to get all her books uploaded. The reason for that is because she is spending a lot more time writing. Thank you for listening to Connie's podcast. Don't forget to join either her or me next time when we talk about her latest book news. Until then, you can visit Connie's website at ConnieMyres.com; and that is spelled C O N N I E M Y R E S dot com. What do Carol Brady and Cersei Lannister have in common? A thirst for blood? No. They would do anything for their children. A mother's love is as strong as the Force, as dangerous as crossing the streams, and as mystical as Gwildor's Cosmic Key. All generations have paid homage to the matriarch in film and television. The band didn't show up, but their song still ROCKS!!! Sure we throw a little shade, but at the end of the day, they are sick and we respect them as musicians. Sometimes things happen. Rock out with us to this awesome deathcore band!! West Texas is known for its endless oilfields more than anything, but it is also home to an emerging heavy band that's reaching for the stars. The melodic deathcore act CRAFTING THE CONSPIRACY's seeds were planted at a King Conquer show in 2014 in Odessa. Guitarist Sebastian Bracamontes and former drummer Edwin Aguilar approached bassist Marcus Denzel Williams and singer Josh Miranda. They talked about music before Bracamontes and Aguilar asked the latter two musicians if they knew anyone interested in starting a project. They had obviously approached the right people. A year later, the band would release its first EP: “Human Error.” While some members have come and gone, Miranda, Bracamontes and Williams eventually rounded out their lineup with Gilbert Gonzales behind the drum kit. Since their inception, the heavy hitters have opened for the likes of Asking Alexandria, Thy Art Is Murder, Whitechapel, Aborted and Rings Of Saturn. The Texans will be releasing their debut full- length album “The Cosmic Key” in late 2018. Interestingly enough, the Kermit and Odessa, Texas-based group had originally envisioned itself as being a Christian band. But the act ultimately decided that it didn't want to focus upon an exclusive audience. CRAFTING THE CONSPIRACY is for anyone and everyone, and as such, they didn't want to impose rigid boundaries around themselves. “We wanted to bring out peace, love, and positivity, but yet maintain a heavy and brutal sound,” Miranda says. “Also, we wanted to incorporate our nerdiness aspects to the band as well by drawing inspiration from anime and video games. We asked ourselves, ‘Who out there do you know would be an anime themed band?'” The quartet's adventurous spirit bleeds through musical style as much as it does thematic content. “So many bands speak or preach hate, which we have no problem with at all. In fact we listen to bands like that ourselves and that's what influenced most of the band. We wanna tell stories that are fictional yet can be non fictional and relate to many people in many ways. We definitely don't wanna be a band that sticks to just one main topic. We wanna be about it all and we also wanna incorporate many other genres as well. Yes, even the metalcore clean singing,” Miranda laughs. “We believe every genre is equal, even pop, jazz, punk, you name it! No genre of music should have to be judged or be looked down upon, because music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything!” Author Credit: Crafting The Conspiracy

Dolph Lundgren had the power in 1987 when he was He-Man. Masters of the Universe (or Masters of the Universe: The Motion Picture), directed by Gary Goddard, is the science fantasy action film based on the Mattel toy line of the same name. That Film Stew's Luke and Nathan revisit this critical and commercial failure as they immerse themselves in all things Masters of the Universe and He-Man, and discover how this movie became a cult classic. When the evil Skeletor (Frank Langella) finds a mysterious power called the Cosmic Key, he becomes nearly invincible. He-Man (Dolph Lundgren) is summoned to stop Skeletor's plans but is transported to Earth from planet Eternia. There, a waitress named Julie (Courteney Cox) and her boyfriend Kevin (Robert Duncan Mitchell) come across the Cosmic Key and become embroiled in the intergalactic battle between He-Man and Skeletor.
There was a time in the 1980s when He-Man and the Masters of the Universe line reigned atop the mountain of kids' toys. Its massive success made this film's production a no-brainer. It was meant to capitalize on the popularity of those figures, as well as the the cartoon series. But it was too late; by the time it was released in 1987, the fervor for He-Man and his heroic, scantily clad exploits had waned, another victim of over supply and diminishing demand. It did not help that his huge onscreen debut left much to be desired. Masters of the Universe is an odd movie—one which could be argued doesn't even feature its hero as the main character—and it eschews much of what made He-Man who he was. There is no Prince Adam or Battle Cat; nor is there an appearance by Snake Mountain. These omissions were largely due to cost, but to set the film almost entirely in a random suburb is bizarre. It's a fish out of water tale bogged down by its earthly elements. Its penchant to cut corners can all be attributed to who produced it: Cannon Films, a studio infamous for its desire to mass produce movies with little regard for their overall quality. Masters of the Universe was one of their most expensive films. It was risk for not only them, but for Mattel—the maker of the He-Man toys. And it backfired. On a budget of $22 million, it grossed just over $17 million. Not a horrific flop, but a lot was riding on it. It, along with other bigger budget tripe like Superman IV, eventually led Cannon to shutter their doors. Despite its dubious performance and initial sub-par reception, it is now considered by some to be a cult classic. This is no doubt due, in part, to Frank Langella's potent performance as Skeletor and its eclectic cast of supporting characters—anchored by Billy Barty's Gwildor. Frankly, it is something that would probably never be made today; it's shocking enough that it got the go ahead then. Because of that, though, it must be seen. So sit back, grab a Howling Gourds Pumpkin Ale, tune up that Cosmic Key, and enjoy, as I, the Thunderous Wizard (@WriterTLK), Capt. Cash, and Chumpzilla barricade ourselves in a record store as we prepare to fight an onslaught of Skeletor's marauding goons! Episode 32 sees Andy and Mitch face their greatest battle yet. The challenger? You may know her from such films as Astron 6's The Editor and Jen & Sylvia Soska's American Mary, it's Tristan Risk! Her chosen film? Masters of The Universe! A difficult film for Andy and one that he considers his first cinematic disappointment, Masters of the Universe, based on the line of figures by Mattel and (loosely) on the cartoon of the same name by Filmation, stars Dolph Lundgren as He-Man (for some reason) and Frank Langella, on absolutely blistering form as the Lord of Snake Mountain, Skeletor! The synopsis is as follows: When the evil Skeletor finds a mysterious power called the Cosmic Key, he becomes nearly invincible. However, courageous warrior He-Man locates inventor Gwildor, who created the Key and has another version of it. During a battle, one of the Keys is transported to Earth, where it is found by teenagers Julie and Kevin. Now both He-Man and Skeletor's forces arrive on Earth searching for the potent weapon.
