First up is Blame It on Rio (1984). Then we move on to LOL (2012). Finally we review The Woman in Red (1984).Blame It on Rio is a 1984 American romantic comedy film directed by Stanley Donen and written by Charlie Peters and Larry Gelbart based on the 1977 French film Un moment d'égarement, starring an ensemble cast, including Michael Caine, Joseph Bologna, Michelle Johnson, Valerie Harper, Demi Moore, and José Lewgoy.LOL is a 2012 American teen romantic comedy-drama film written and directed by Lisa Azuelos. A remake of the 2008 French film of its title (also directed by Azuelos), the film stars Miley Cyrus, Demi Moore, Ashley Greene, and Adam Sevani. The film received a limited release in the United States on May 4, 2012, by Lionsgate, which handicapped it after being reeled back from a broader release, and had an overall negative critical reception. Thus, the film missed its budget by box office gross by only $500,000.The Woman in Red is a 1984 American romantic comedy film directed by and starring Gene Wilder. Watch the Trailer for "Signed, Sealed, Delivered: The Vows We Have Made" Our Thoughts on "Signed, Sealed, Delivered: The Vows We Have Made" What We Loved about SSD: "The Vows We Have Made" We were incredibly impressed with this movie. Let's talk about the things that warmed our hearts: Beautifully Written Dialogue: The movie was wonderfully written, with many profound lines like "trust the timing" and poignant themes about holding on and letting go. Humor Amidst Tears: Even though the last 20 minutes were packed with tear-jerking moments, there were great light-hearted instances that provided the perfect balance. Character Development: Seeing characters like Sharon, Shane's mom, evolve was a joy. Her relationship with Oliver was emotionally compelling, especially when she offers to be the mother he deserved. Creative Problem-Solving: Martha Williamson's writing shines as Rita and Norman decide to help Charlie, a young mother. Instead of adopting her baby, they invite her to live with them. It's an unconventional but touching solution. Flashbacks: The flashbacks to previous episodes were not just nostalgic but added depth to the overall narrative, making this feel like a fitting wrap-up to the series. What We Wished For While we loved most of the movie, there were a couple of things we wished were different: Rita, Norman, and Charlie Triangle: The timeline here was a bit confusing. How long have Rita and Norman been trying to have a baby? And the idea of them taking in Charlie and her baby seemed rushed and unconventional. Shane's Sister: Shane's sister, who had a big part in a previous movie, didn't make an appearance, not even a mention.

Another 1970s USTV Quartet with THE SHY YETI First broadcast on FAB RADIO INTERNATIONAL at 19:00 on November 5th 2023 This week, PAUL CHANDLER, THE SHY YETI is back for another in his series of trawls through what YOUTUBE has to offer in the way of classic American TV, and this time he's reached the mid-to-late-1970s, and his quartet of choices are DIANA, a 1973 American sitcom built around the considerable talents of DIANA RIGG; THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN featuring NICHOLAS HAMMOND in a short-lived action series from 1977 featuring everybody's friendly neighbourhood web-slinger; RHODA, a 1974 sitcom featuring VALERIE HARPER in a highly successful spinoff from THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW that lasted five seasons; and MRS COLUMBO, a perhaps misguided attempt at a COLUMBO spinoff featuring KATE MULGREW which, despite being retitled KATE LOVES A MYSTERY in order to divorce it from the original show, sank without trace after thirteen shows but may have been the spark that inspired MURDER, SHE WROTE. At the end of the hour, PAUL also introduces me to one far more successful show, the long-running daytime mystery drama known as THE EDGE OF NIGHT that qualifies as being in this 1970s selection simply because it ran from way, way before it in 1956 until deep into the 1980s. PLEASE NOTE - For Copyright reasons, musical content sometimes has to be removed for the podcast edition. All the spoken word content remains (mostly) as it was in the broadcast version. In this episode of the "Work From Your Happy Place" podcast, Belinda Ellsworth interviews Susie Singer Carter. Susie shares her personal story of caring for her mother, who had Alzheimer's for 16 years. She believes that rather than fighting the disease, one must learn to navigate and find joy in the journey. Susie emphasizes the importance of focusing on what a loved one with Alzheimer's can still do rather than dwelling on their limitations. Susie admits to making mistakes in caring for her mother, underestimating the challenges of the disease. However, she aims to showcase her mother's daily life through her film, highlighting both the positive and negative aspects. Sharing her experiences on social media, Susie discusses the challenges and benefits of engaging online. While she values organic and meritorious engagement, she questions the authenticity of some influencers' high follower counts and the crowded nature of the caregiver community on social media. Using the metaphor of a spider web, Susie encourages listeners to pursue their chosen activities with excellence and let their work be carried by the wind to where it needs to go. Reflecting on storytelling's power, Susie discusses her project "No Country for Old People," which aims to change the conversation on Alzheimer's and the nursing home industry. She also encourages listeners to find fulfilling work, regardless of whether it's entrepreneurial, and reminds them that money does not define one's worth. Lastly, Susie explores the importance of authentic storytelling, sharing behind-the-scenes content, and giving value to audiences rather than constantly asking for engagement or sales. Overall, this episode of "Work From Your Happy Place" delves into the significance of finding joy in caregiving, the challenges and benefits of engaging on social media, the power of storytelling, and the importance of pursuing fulfilling work. Hot off the presses! As some of you might know, just last week, the members of SAG-AFTRA - the union which represents TV and film actors - went on strike for the first time in decades. And while we're not really a current events podcast (see the “Retro Podcast” subtitle), these types of battles over contracts and pay have been going on between producers and actors for as long as studios have existed, and probably even longer. And in one particular battle in 1987, when a famous actress asked for contract changes, she wasn't fired from any ol' show - she was pushed out of a sitcom that was literally named after her.Rob teaches Ray about Valerie Harper, her award-winning career, and why she was ignominiously fired from her eponymous sitcom; the clash of comedic sensibilities on “Valerie”; Jason Bateman's literal role in all this; another rockin' 80s theme song; and how the fallout from Valerie Harper's firing and subsequent lawsuit made producers much more cautious about future TV fights with stars. If you like what we're doing, please support us on Patreon or subscribe to our bonus content on Apple Podcasts. All Home Care Matters was honored to welcome two remarkable individuals who are making an impact, Susie Singer Carter & Rick Mountcastle.   About the Film "No Country for Old People": “No Country for Old People” is a critically needed documentary inspired award-winning filmmaker, Susie Singer Carter's (Oscar Qualified “My Mom and The Girl” starring Valerie Harper, Soul Surfer) experience tackling the front lines of our broken Long Term Care/Nursing Home System while caring for her beloved mother who, despite best efforts, died July 17, 2022 from what was inarguably egregious nursing home neglect and abuse.    Susie really understands the power of storytelling. This film promises to pack a much-needed gut punch that will force the public to look at our health-care system that is literally collapsing around us. Susie has partnered with former US Prosecutor and Attorney General, Rick Mountcastle (portrayed in the Hulu miniseries, “DOPESICK”), who spent years investigating and prosecuting nursing homes chains for fraud. She has attracted an impressive list of the most respected and staunch advocates to contribute to the film. The film is fiscally sponsored by The National Consumer Voice for Quality Long Term Care which provides them a 501(c)(3) status.

Yes, folks.  Two for the price of one.  First, I explore the 1981 short lived TV version of Foul Play, based on the 1978 Chevy Chase and Goldie Hawn almost classic.  Then, I will play dueling Uncle Bucks by comparing the 1990 version to the 2016 version, both of whom fall short of the original 1989 John Candy masterpiece.  And, as if that weren't enough, I'll explore 70s revenge flicks, meeting Valerie Harper and her TV son, not meeting Martin Kove, and my severe dislike of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.  You're welcome.
