In this super-exciting special episode the Poor Historians interview author Dr. Lindsey Fitzharris about her new book, The Facemaker.  The Facemaker centers on the incredible achievements of Dr. Harold Gillies, a plastic surgeon in WWI who not only helped restore the identities of injured soldiers with severe facial injuries, but developed a multitude of plastic surgery techniques in doing so.  He helped legitimize the specialty as well--believe it or not, at one time it was not highly regarded.  In this episode, Dr. Fitzharris will give us all a new perspective as the author of this work.  We highly encourage you not to miss this one!  Go get this book or download the audiobook version, read by Daniel Gillies--the actor and descendant of the pioneering surgeon himself.  Follow link below or order.https://drlindseyfitzharris.com/

Join BP, Coop and Justin as we discuss 'Captivity' the worst movie of all time! Captivity is a 2007 horror film of the "torture porn" subgenre, directed by Roland Joffé, written by Larry Cohen and Joseph Tura, and starring Elisha Cuthbert and Daniel Gillies. Considered an entry into a subgenre popularized by such film series as Hostel and Saw, the film centres on Jennifer Tree, a rising fashion model. On an evening out alone, Jennifer is stalked and drugged. She wakes up in a cell containing personal items taken from her apartment. Jennifer is shown recordings of victims who were tortured in the same cell, as well as records of her interviews. She screams and pleads to be let go, but no one replies. Jennifer is subjected to various forms of psychological torture. She then discovers that a young man, Gary Dexter, is being held captive in an adjoining cell. The two make contact and attempt to find an escape. They both make it to a garage containing a vehicle, but are knocked out by sleeping gas. Jennifer wakes up in her cell, and sees a recording of Gary being threatened in his cell. Afterwards, he is thrown into her cell. She rushes over to help him, and they proceed to have sex. Have you ever thought you could get away with murder? This week, we examine an elusive and peculiar man who probably definitely murdered at least three people, yet somehow remains unconvicted. THE LOST WIFE OF ROBERT DURST (2017), starring Katharine McPhee and Daniel Gillies, focuses on Robert’s marriage to Kathie McCormick Durst as well as her mysterious disappearance that baffles law enforcement to this very day. Come on, you know the husband did it…or DID he? (He did. He absolutely did). In addition to the movie, we discuss how mental health is not just a personal issue; if it’s ignored and unmanaged, it can become a dangerous public risk. We also talk about Stephanie’s mystery Amazon packages, which leads us to write our own Lifetime horror movie. Have YOU ever accidentally murdered a family member? Conversely, have you ever buried someone without realizing they were still alive? Most importantly, does Zach ever get his meta moment? If you’re thirsty for Dursty, you won’t want to miss this one! This movie can be viewed on the Lifetime Movie Club app and Vudu. Support the show (https://patreon.com/lifewinepodcast)

I review 2007's Captivity directed by Roland Joffe and staring Elisha Cuthbert and Daniel Gillies. Captivity is a 2007 psychological horror film directed by Roland Joffé, written by Larry Cohen and Joseph Tura, and starring Elisha Cuthbert and Daniel Gillies. The movie was released on Friday the 13th 2007 July and had budget of 17 million dollars and made 10 million at the box office. The movie was most notable for its billboards. The billboard was a four panel image saying Abduction,Confinement,Torture,Termination. It recived complaints from people in the Los Angles area after being removed they put a message saying "Captivity was here" Heres a link for more information on that https://www.huffpost.com/entry/remove-the-rating-for-cap_b_44404

Well we are not so random this week as we break with the formula to bring you the second Saving Hope episode in a row. Why did Colin feel you couldn't get this show without watching the first two episodes together. How weird is Charlie's ex-wife Dawn, and why is she Colin's favourite character? Does the biting kid hit too close to home? Can Rossi and Colin explain the differences between Canadian and American medical care? Does a rewatch turn around Colin's opinion on Maggie? What is Coma Arousal Therapy, and will we ever get to see it? Before we get back to complete random choices we bring you one more week of the most unusual medical drama Canada has ever produced, so download our recap now that 4/5 Doctors agree will work as great Coma Arousal Therapy.★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

We return with a new series of Random Rewatches as Colin gets the pick this week, and goes back to 2012 to introduce Rossi to the Canadian supernatural medical drama Saving Hope. Will Rossi have a better reaction to this Canadian TV export than he did with the famous Canadian sitcom Corner Gas last year? How well does a supernatural ghost whisperer concept mix with a traditional medical drama? Can we talk about the outcome of Charlie's coma and power without spoiling the end of this season and all those to come? Are the 'B' stories of any interest compared to the main series Coma arc? How much star power did Erica Durance and Michael Shanks bring to this show? Why does Daniel Gillies and all other actors from Winnipeg leave for New Zealand and then come back? Will the twist and the potential of Charlie making contact from Hospital Purgatory be enough to bring us back to talk about this show again?★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

OK you guyz…need I saw anything other than Rachael Leigh Cook!?!? I’m a major 90s and early 2000s movie fan, so meeting Josie from Josie and the Pussycats and Laney Boggs from She’s All That was ToTaLLy and unequivocally the highlight of the Firework App launch party for me! Virtual video games and Two Bit Circus are MeGa-Kewl, but…JOSIE!!!! If you haven’t seen those movies, they pretty much define teen and young entertainment of their time, similar to how John Hughes movies defined the 80s. Rachael is also in Nancy Drew and My First Wedding plus a bunch of TV series: Las Vegas, Psych, Titan Maximum, Dawson’s Creek, Perception on TNT etc. Yeah, it’s a long list! She’s in a new, modern take on A Midsummer Night’s Dream now too! Star Wars fans may want to tune in there too! If you really know your pre-Disney Star Wars lore, you may have heard of Jaesa William. She’s a Padawan in Star Wars: The Old Republic…who turned to the Dark Side (and is, well, different than pretty much all other Sith we’ve seen). Any chance of her appearing as a Sith in a post-Disney Star Wars world? You know you wanna know, so I’m asking (it’s a Piperazzi thing)! Rachael also does voice work in Robot Chicken (Beru Lars, Evil-Lyn, Rey and Princess Zelda!),Batman Beyond, and Kingdom Hearts.   Oh, interesting extra info…Rachael Leigh Cook is married to The Vampire Diaries and The Originals alumni Daniel Gillies (aka Elijah Mikaelson).   This one ranks up there like with the Bryce Dallas Howard and Idina Menzel interviews for me, so I hope you love it too!  ❤️
