It's time for another classic 90s romcom, Pixie Dusters! This week is all about the magical pairing of Freddie Prinze Jr. and Rachael Leigh Cook in "She's All That." Did you know they never actually refer to Laney as an " ugly ducking" (though of course we still get that wonderful scene where Zack implies you can't see her beautiful eyes behind GLASSES). There's more heart to this film then you would think, and we still love it despite some flaws. The cover and the trailer seem quirky, but Blow Dry is a serious movie about a silly hair-styling competition. Alan Rickman stars as Phil, a distant dad to Josh Hartnett, who looks like he's from Dumb and Dumber. He returns to town for a massive hair competition that his ex-wife Shelly, played by the late Natasha Richardson, is entering. Shelly faces fierce rivalry from Bill Neighy, who has a daughter played by Rachael Leigh Cook. He wants to win, so he plays dirty! Also, Shelly previously ran away from her marriage with Phil to be with her hair model, Sandra. What shenanigans! Oh, but Shelly has cancer, and that's no laughing matter.Remember to join our Discord for movie nights and further podcast discussions!Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-other-half/exclusive-content

Welcome back to Not A Bomb! This is the podcast where we dive into some of cinema's biggest box office failures and explore whether they deserve a second chance. “Re-May-ke” month is still rolling on as we peel back the layers on the darkly entertaining and tightly wound revenge story from 2000, Get Carter. Based on the novel “Jack Returns Home,” Get Carter failed to reach the heights of the 1971 version and only made back roughly 33% of its production budget. Sylvester Stallone was definitely trying to do something new with his career in 2000, but the film didn't resonate with critics or the general audience. Does this 2nd remake of the famous British crime film deserve all the hate? Grab your trench coat, put on your best brooding face, and join us as we dissect this gritty gem on Not a Bomb!Get Carter is directed by Stephen Kay and stars Sylvester Stallone, Miranda Richardson, Rachael Leigh Cook, Alan Cumming, Mickey Rourke, and Michael Caine. This week, we can be found guesting all over the internet. Welcome to another episode of The Video Store Podcast! Today, we're diving into a fantastic lineup of films that have defined their eras with wit, drama, and iconic moments. Grab your popcorn, and let's get started!First up, we have "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" from 1985. This joyful romp through teenage rebellion and dance competitions is pure 80s gold. Starring Sarah Jessica Parker and Helen Hunt, this film captures the vibrant energy of the decade. The film's dance sequences are not just fun; they're a testament to the era's dedication to new wave style and aerobics craze.Moving on to a bit more of a heartfelt classic, we have "Say Anything" from 1989. This film not only solidified John Cusack as an 80s icon but also gave us one of the most memorable romantic gestures in film history with the boombox scene. Director Cameron Crowe created a film that speaks to the uncertainties of post-high school life and the pursuit of genuine connection.Next on our list is "She's All That" from 1999. This film is a quintessential teen makeover story that cleverly subverts some typical genre clichés. Did you know that it was one of the most popular teen films of the 90s and launched the careers of several of its stars, including Freddie Prinze Jr. and Rachael Leigh Cook? It's a cultural snapshot of late 90s high school life, right down to the fashion and slang. Thanks for reading Video Store Podcast! This film cleverly adapts Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew" into a modern high school setting, highlighting themes of identity, conformity, and romance. Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles deliver performances that resonate well beyond their high school characters, marking the film as a standout in the teen movie genre. Each of these films brings something unique to the table, whether it's the charm of the cast, the impactful soundtracks, or the way they encapsulate the essence of their respective decades. They remind us why we return to these stories time and again — for nostalgia, for comfort, or just for a good laugh. That wraps up today's episode. This week, we take a look at one of 1999's biggest surprise hits, the 38th-highest grossing movie, which took in a very impressive $103 million on a budget of just $10 million, She's All That. She's All That opened at #1 on January 29, boosted by being nicely timed around Valentine's Day and by coming out in one of the least-competitive box office periods of the year. Directed by Robert Iscove and written by friend of the show R. Lee Fleming Jr, She's All That boasts one of the most incredibly deep casts of 1990s icons, as well as launching the career of the titular "she" Rachael Leigh Cook. It is the very definition of the nostalgic favorite, and it finds charm and humor in places not typical of the teen rom-com genre. So this week, we invited comedy writer Chase Mitchell to join us down by the broken treehouse to talk all about it, so bring your flowered hat as we see if, all these years later, this ugly duckling is still a swan. Pat Mullin and Mark Radulich present our Josie and the Pussycats 2001 Movie Review!Josie and the Pussycats is a 2001 satirical musical comedy film co-produced by Universal Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Directed and co-written by Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan, the film is based on both the Archie Comics series and the Hanna-Barbera cartoon of the same name. Filmed entirely in Vancouver, Canada, the film features Rachael Leigh Cook, Tara Reid, and Rosario Dawson as the Pussycats, with Alan Cumming, Parker Posey, Gabriel Mann, Paulo Costanzo, and Missi Pyle in supporting roles.Although the film's soundtrack album was well received, charting at No. 16 on the Billboard 200 and quickly achieving Gold status, the film itself received mixed reviews and was a commercial failure upon its initial release. However, it has enjoyed later success as a cult film.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsoFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76

For our latest commentary we decided to mix things up by watching 1999's SHE'S ALL THAT, celebrating its 25th anniversary this week. Listen separately or watch along as we talk through the Freddie Prinze Jr./Rachael Leigh Cook rom-com, with plenty of behind-the-scenes stories and personal reflections along the way. Is it a bet? Rachael Leigh Cook (She's All That, A Tourists Guide to Love) joins us this week and shares her story of quickly moving from Hollywood aspirations growing up in Minnesota to feeling like she was playing catch-up, unable to enjoy the success of the late 90's box office smash: She's All That. Rachael was amazing this week!! She talks about the idea of feeling haunted by potential and the weight of the expectations she placed on herself, because of the solid upbringing and support she had behind her. We also talked about how motherhood was the ultimate life changing switch, how entertainment is a game of ‘pay now' or ‘pay later,' and some infamously uncomfortable audition stories.
