Roberto Diaz joins us for this week's episode while enjoying his first ever trip to Ireland. The former Golden Boy Promotions matchmaker was over for the Jason Quigley homecoming and sat down to discuss his relationship with the Donegal contender as well as working with other Irish fighters such as Jamie Kavanagh, Spike O'Sullivan and Aaron McKenna. He goes in depth on what the job of matchmaker entails and why it's sometimes like being a goalkeeper in football – make one bad mistake and everyone forgets all the great saves you've made and blames you for the loss. Roberto's got an amazing life story too. A cancer survivor, he grew up in San Francisco and nearly fell into gang life before being sent to live with his relatives in Mexico as a teenager. He ended up working in boxing through his friendship with Marco Antonio Barrera and ultimately became one of the most influential people in all of the sport. Here he tells us about working with stars such as Canelo Alvarez, Bernard Hopkins, Ricky Hatton, Erik Morales, Sugar Shane Mosley, and Oscar De La Hoya - and the perils of being a matchmaker. We also look ahead to some upcoming superfights like Gervona Davis v Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney v Vasyl Lomachenko and Katie Taylor v Chantelle Cameron… Hosted on Acast. The fans want to see that, to see if I can go in there and walk my opponent down. Hit him with big shot. I showed I can do it all, I can box, I can bang, I can take a shot and face adversity and get the job done. It was a good shot but I wasn’t hurt, sometimes when you get hit by a good shot, you have to be smart, continue the gameplay . and I did that and got the win. I knew he was going to come here and give it everything, it was a huge opportunity for him, he would be willing to get knocked out to go for the win, take my biggest shots to get this title. I just kept smart, used the jabs, feinted and landed shots in the 12th round. You are going to get hit with big shots in boxing. I didn’t get dropped, I didn’t get hurt. You see fighters get dropped and get up from big shots and people praise them, I didn’t get dropped, I stayed on my feet, kept throwing shots and closed it out. I want to fight the best, I stayed focused on Jorge this week, I knew he was a tough competitor and I got the job done with the game plan. On this episode of The Fighter's Voice, Richard Ortiz and UFC Veteran and Co-Host Cole Esovedo (Apache Kid) interview Roberto Diaz. Roberto A. Diaz is a 48-year-old matchmaker for one of the leading boxing promoters in the world, Golden Boy Promotions. Golden Boy Promotions is a company founded and owned by 1992 Gold Medalist & 10-time World Champion Oscar “The Golden Boy” De La Hoya. Diaz has worked with numerous gifted athletes, including some of the best in boxing history such as Bernard Hopkins, Marco Antonio Barrera, Ricky Hatton, Erik Morales, Sugar Shane Mosley, and Daniel “Miracle Man” Jacobs. He strongly believes that boxing is a sport that - like many other sports - requires hard work, will, and dedication. He also believes that boxing is serious and can be dangerous if not taken with discipline. His bottom line is “You Don't Play Boxing.” Diaz has been working for Golden Boy Promotions for nine years now, and he loves it like it was still his first day because every day brings something new. His roles are to make fights, which include matching the fighters, building them into world champions, and making fights that both fans and networks want to see. He says that his dreams come true are being able to work for such a legendary fighter and Hall of Famer like Oscar De La Hoya, as well as to sign some of the best talent from all over the world. I don't think it matters if MLB has 60, 120 or 162 games. Whatever it is will be a season for me.Congrats for Seton Hall for winning the championship over Duke in a simulated game. That must make all the Pirate alumni ecstatic. It took the Bucs ninety minutes to convince Tom Brady to come to Tampa. If only things in life were that easy.

Shane Mosley fought some of the best fighters of his generation winning four world championships in three different weight classes. Often considered one of the best lightweights in boxing history, Mosley amassed a 49-10-1 record over twenty-four years in the ring. Never one to back down from a fight, Shane fought well into his forties. In a sport filled with eccentric characters, Shane's stayed humble and never strayed too far from his roots, often choosing to let his Left Jab and Double Hook do the talking in the ring. So how how did this small town kid from Pomona, CA rise through the ranks to become, pound-for-pound, one of the greatest boxers of all-time? Find out on this episode of Legends of Sport.
