Læs meget mere lige her: Cinema is coming home BRAVIA 8 II BRAVIA Theatre System 6 Og lad så komme i gang! Rigtig god fornøjelse, og husk at strække benene undervejs! in recent times, the film world's powers that be have mercifully decided that biographies chronicling the lives of nobodies like Freddie Mercury, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen are no longer necessary, instead trying to mollify us with the saga of a Neil Diamond tribute act. While I would not necessarily describe this as progress, it does slightly open a window of possibility of a forthcoming feature film telling the story of STUPIFY, one of Cleveland's top 5 or 6 Disturbed tribute bands. Could such a project be some sort of karmic payback for Michael Chiklis, who suffered so many slings and arrows (well, mostly arrows) for being cast as John Belushi in “Wired”? I'd love to get into all of it during this week's show, however East Village Radio only grants me 120 minutes a week and this subject really requires ten, nay, one hundred times that. I don't think you're quite ready for the One Hundred Hours That Feels Like Two Hundred Hours (I'm certainly not).
Friday means 5-Star Movie Reviews, and Andy Peth doesn't pull any punches. Joined by co-hosts Luke and Ashley, Andy dives deep into two very different films—asking the question every moviegoer wants answered: Is this worth my time? Andy opens with Marty Supreme, a performance-driven drama anchored by Timothée Chalamet. While Andy praises Chalamet's acting as elite—possibly among the year's best—he calls the film exhausting, overly long, and emotionally draining. His verdict? 2.5 stars overall, with a strong performance buried inside a movie many viewers may find frustrating or boring. Is great acting enough if you don't enjoy the story? Next up is Anaconda, a comedic adventure starring Paul Rudd and Jack Black. Andy appreciates the cast, the shorter runtime, and a handful of funny moments—but says the script, humor, and pacing fall short. His final score: 1.5 stars for quality, calling it watchable but forgettable. Which movie divides audiences the most? Which one sounds like a total miss—or a guilty curiosity? Andy breaks it down so you don't waste your movie night. Marty Supreme - Review begins at 17:39 * ⭐ Quality: ⭐⭐½ (Andy's personal take: ⭐½) *
Today's episode features two polar opposite films. One that was freaking awesome, and one that... is. We're talking about Disney Animation's new Zootopia 2 which is just an all around great film about partners and why we shouldn't make fun of people who aren't like us (animals in the movie of course), and then you have the snorefest Bugonia which, as mention many times, is OSCAR BAIT. That's literally all it is. Its a bunch of weird scenes thrown together to get the Academy's attention. At least it isn't 2 hours of Emma Stone nakie. Bugonia, unlike Poor Things, has a plot. It's significantly better than Kinds of Kindness. Also, a hilarious Kitty, er, animals in the news section. We talk about movies coming out we may or may not see. I also finally finished Mindhunter, which left me with a sad. This episode was a lot of fun to record.
LexG freeform hangout episode, with riffs on Predator: Badlands and the Predator series, Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, the October and November Oscar bait flicks that have all kind of bombed, and a few hopefuls yet to come.
As awards season revs up, we're faced with even more movies to talk about than usual, so in this episode, Tim, Brian, and Caleb have a lot of work ahead of them as they try to cover everything noteworthy opening in October. And there's even more to talk about than usual, since all three have quite a few movies they're genuinely excited to see, in a huge reverse from the previous nine months of the year. Along with some pessimism for some of the dodgier-looking Oscarbait, to even things out. Before the preview starts, Brian is amazed to see his corner of the word onscreen in the Netflix documentary Unknown Number: The High School Catfish, Caleb catches up with one of his previous most-anticipated titles, Twinless, and Tim takes an assignment from Patreon supporter Christophe Romain to finally track down 1999's Away with Words, the directorial debut of the great cinematographer Christopher Doyle.

Welcome to the Best Picture Showcase, a miniseries on THE MOVIES where I review each nominee for this year's Academy Award for Best Picture. With each installment, I hope to answer the following: 1) What's the movie about? 2) What's it feel like to sit through the movie? 3) Did I like it? 4) Should it and will it win Best Picture? What's my current ranking of the nominees? 5) How can you catch this movie? I hope to make this list feel more accessible for folx intimidated or turned off by what they might derisively consider "Oscar Bait." So a 3.5 hour drama about a Hungarian refugee escaping the Holocaust to 1950s Pennsylvania is a great place to start, right? Brady Corbet's THE BRUTALIST works that artist's magic of making hyper-specific circumstances feel universal. This is a movie about a man who feels his life is robbed from him. In many ways, it was, and yet, that struggle between accepting his difficult realities of working back up from the bottom rung of the ladder & confidently striding with the experience and value earned over years of work designing buildings that stand the test of fascist regimes and war feels almost insurmountable. This is a story peeling back the layers of the American Dream, the reality behind the promise; it's hard not to feel, sometimes, as though we live in hopeful delusion regarding that journey to make our dreams into truth. It's a movie about the person made into the other, never acceptable to the dominant class outside of the immediate value they can provide. And it's all shot in breathtaking Vistavision film, capturing these grand moments in ways both timeless and timely. This is the kind of story we go to the theaters to experience: an epic that our HDTVs will, simply, never do justice. Back from hibernation! The only entertainment news that's fit to put in your ears! The Sandwich is back, baby! Kicking off 2025 with some talk of the Academy Award nominations and how many of them Kyle just plain hasn't heard of or seen, because he's an uncultured swine. Elsewhere, a casting rumor for a Star Wars show and legal drama surrounding a foul-mouthed cartoon show that you'd swear went off the air years ago. Microsoft held their Developer Direct teasing the triumphant return of the Ninja Gaiden and Doom franchises, and some hearsay regarding Nintendo's new Switch 2. Finally, the Star Wars comic books from Marvel finally delve into the 30 years of New Republic adventures before the Force went and awakened.

Joe and Adam delve deep into the big Oscar flick of 2011, the Tomothy Hooper directed royal flick The King's Speech. They also dig into Firth, and laser in on the narrative of his rise to power.
The author and film critic Adam Nayman returns to Junk Filter to discuss the new Jason Reitman race-against-time comedy thriller Saturday Night about the backstage antics leading up to the first episode of SNL in 1975, a feature film that serves an an ode to its producer Lorne Michaels while trying to spin tension and suspense out of a foregone conclusion. Reitman is back in Oscar Bait mode after having some success with the new Ghostbusters films, but this one, like many of his recent award season efforts, failed to connect with audiences. Adam and I discuss the film's shortcomings, which real life characters it chooses to venerate and which it chooses to attack or demean, and how Reitman, in his supposed recreation of a comedy revolution, actually values the establishment of an institution. Kassia St. Clair, author of the 2017 best-seller The Secret Lives of Color and the Sunday Times Book of the Year follow-up The Golden Thread: How Fabric Changed History (2019) joins me to talk about her new book, Race to the Future: The Adventure that Accelerated the 20th Century. A bucketload of films get dumped on the silver screen in December, and we never have time to cover all of them, but we do want to try. This week, seven Lambs share the last minute gifts (and lumps of coal) that they caught up with at the close of 2023. A couple of streaming films sneak in, there is plenty of Oscar Bait, and there are several pleasant surprises. We also talk briefly about the films of the year that disappointed us. It's a loose format this week, but you will find plenty to enjoy.
This week on Game Crunch: Another Code Recollection (demo), Vampire Survivors, and Armored Core 6. In news: E3 is dead and a lot of speculation on Playstation based on recent leaks. All this and more on the latest Game Crunch! Until next week - Game On!
The Legendary Ladies tackle the new Netflix movie getting Oscar buzz, May December. We talk about what worked for us and what didn't, and the layers of meaning in the film. We also discussed how the movie portrayed acting and performance and whether or not Elizabeth (Natalie Portman) was a good person. Finally we dove into a history lesson to talk about the parallels between Gracie (Julianne Moore) and the real-life teacher that inspired her character, Mary Kay Letourneau. Dr. Laine Nooney (NYU) joins me to discuss the early days of personal computing - particularly how people figured out what to do with home computers after they became convinced that they needed one - in their 2023 book The Apple II Age: How the Computer Became Personal. If you were alive in the pre-internet era, this book is both a great trip down memory lane and a new way to think about the usual hagiographic "Great Man" retellings of the early years of the industry. If you're a bit younger, you'll get great insight into just how not obvious it was what in the hell we would do with computers at home, even though it seemed like everyone wanted one. If you think you already know the story, you don't! Question Cathy is traveling the world, so Question Kyle and Question Jennie pinch-hit for her in a truly stellar Mailbag. The guys discuss the film adaptation of THE LONG GOODBYE, a classic hard-boiled detective fiction novel written by Raymond Chandler, that tells the story of Philip Marlowe, a private detective living in Los Angeles, who is pulled into a mystery when both his friend Terry Lennox, and his wife, turn up dead, the latter by murder and the former by suicide. Or were they? While Marlowe investigates the deaths, he's pulled deeper into the lives of the Lennox's neighbors, the famous author Roger Wade and his wife, and the police. … The film adaptation stars Elliott Gould, Nina van Pallandt, Sterling Hayden, and a brief appearance from a young Arnold Schwarzenegger. The film was released in 1973 and was directed by Robert Altman, with the screenplay written by Leigh Brackett. … Topics of discussion include the modernizing of the film's setting, the dynamic performances of Gould and Sterling, the complex plot of the book that is stripped down in the film, and the unlikely talent of striking a match. … Listen to the episode to find out how the series stacks up to the book. … (0:00) From the book… (1:30) Fast facts, recap, trivia… (10:49) A word from our sponsor… (11:14) Studio pitch & novel breakdown… (28:47) “Take off your clothes…” (30:54) Learn you something, differences from the book… … Our next episode will be on the adaptation of the Iain Reid novel, FOE, our first episode of this year's upcoming season on 2023 Oscar Bait. The film is directed by Garth Davis ("Lion") and stars Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal. The film's release date is set for October 6, 2023. … The episode following FOE will be on the film adaptation of David Grann's NYT bestselling nonfiction book, THE KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON, which is directed by Martin Scorsese and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Lily Gladstone, Brendan Fraser, and Jesse Plemons. The film's release date is set for October 20, 2023. … If you would like to get in contact with us about anything regarding the show, feel free to shoot us an e-mail: littolens@gmail.com … Or reach out on social media: twitter.com/littolens instagram.com/littolens
Question Cathy returns for a long overdue dip into the mailbag. We hit a range of topics including: how the recent Supreme Court ruling will affect college admissions, 90s cultural fads, the mind-bending heat affecting much of the planet this summer, what the DeSantis campaign's flop tells us about the war on "wokeness," and how some state-level Democratic parties have gotten so much done with razor-thin majorities. Plus I drop the least obscure hints yet about my forthcoming book and we reveal the most appealing presidential candidate for a post-Biden Democratic Party. Cathy mispronounces "Patreon" creatively and I recognize mid-recording that Bath & Body Works and Bed, Bath, and Beyond are two different things. The guys discuss the series adaptation of WOOL, a science fiction novel written by Hugh Howey, that tells the story of a dystopian future where generations of survivors live together in a subterranean silo. The society is stratified into blue and white collar workers and governed by strict regulations designed to protect the residents from the perceived horrors of the outside world. But when a small group of residents start to believe that all is not what it seems, they threaten to unravel the stability of the silo. … The Apple TV+ series adaptation stars Rebecca Ferguson, Rashida Jones, David Oyelowo, Common, and Tim Robbins. The series was developed by Graham Yost, consists of ten episodes in Season 1 and debuted May 5, 2023 on Apple TV+. The series was renewed for a second season. … Topics of discussion include the tonal shift in the show, the expanded roles of Sims and Judicial, where the series ends in comparison to the book, and whether or not there would be accents in the silo. … Listen to the episode to find out how the show stacks up to the book. … (0:05) From the book… (1:27) Fast facts, recap, trivia… (16:55) A word from our sponsor… (17:23) Studio pitch & novel breakdown… (38:43) Trailer… (40:12) Learn you something, differences from the book… … Our next episode will be on the adaptation of the Alasdair Gray novel, POOR THINGS, our first episode of this year's upcoming season on 2023 Oscar Bait. Sunday night's Oscars show in Hollywood had some fun with Don Lemon, but the Best Picture nominees are always so tremendously serious. Meanwhile, in Austin, the South By Southwest Conference hosted several media panel discussions with a leftist tilt, one against media that are "amplifying hate" (Fox) and one on creating an "antiracist newsroom."
Motivated by the Chinese balloon story that recently if briefly dominated the news, Kelsey Atherton (@AthertonKD) joins me to talk about PROJECT GENETRIX (1956), a Pentagon scheme to float almost 600 balloons over remote parts of the USSR and China. Turns out balloons are not well-suited to espionage duty for reasons that should be obvious to anyone over the age of ten. We also talk plenty about the recent balloon incident, the link between GENETRIX and the phenomenon of UFO sightings, and about how a crashed GENETRIX balloon is indirectly responsible for mankind's first photos of the dark side of the moon. Check out Kelsey's substack, Wars of Future Past, and his recent contribution to Slate on the China incident. Please support Mass for Shut-ins, an independent and ad-free podcast, via Patreon. Labor journalist and author Max Alvarez (@maximillian_alv) takes a break from hosting the essential podcast Working People (@WorkingPod) and reporting for Real News Network to talk about the recent labor issues on America's freight railroads. Also joining us is Matt Weaver, a maintenance of way crew member based in Toledo working for freight giant CSX. He's active with BMWED-IBT 2624, a Teamsters-affiliated union for whom he has recently been chosen to serve as legislative director for his state. He has worked on the railroad since 1994. If you're interested in learning more or finding out what you can do to help, Matt asks that you visit the Railroad Workers United online or locally. Max's recent book The Work of Living: Working People Talk about Their Lives and the Year the World Broke is also highly recommended. Be sure to check it out. Hello and welcome to Red Chill Cinema where Brian and Alison talk about the absolute state of our narrative culture. Today we will be looking at a new film that is ultimately about the #metoo movement. It seems to have flopped in theaters however, why didn't women come out in droves to support the sisterhood?
Dr. Erin Thompson (@ArtCrimeProf), the Art Crime Professor, joins me to talk about her book Smashing Statues: The Rise and Fall of America's Public Monuments. We cover the illusory permanence of monuments, the politics of taking them up (and down), and the fate of removed monuments sitting in storage right now, waiting for a more reactionary political climate to re-erect them. Question Cathy joins me for the mailbag, where we discuss the Denver Broncos, Starbucks workers' organizing efforts, the scourge of paywalled scholarly research, and the ultimate fate of Twitter. The Everything Sequel Podcast presents Project 1982! Listen as Mike and Matt discuss the Best Picture nominees from 1982. You'll hear if we think the Academy got it right with Gandhi, if there's another movie we love and if there's any film that was overlooked in this incredible year for movies.
For the first time in over two years, the Deucecast crew -- Mikey, d$, and #TwitterlessDrEarl takes on a Herculean task... listing the movies coming in the fall and winter of the year. The Spring/Summer preview (ep 526) got most of the movies right, but when it comes to fall and winter, leading into award season, it's a total crapshoot. But we are up for the challenge. We list most of the major releases into theaters and streaming, with the knowledge that any of them can move without warning. Two Pinocchio films, new Kevin Smith, is Fletch even relevant anymore, Sidney Pointier gets his due, Zac Efron on a Beer Run, Olivia Wilde v Flo Pugh, Tyler Perry's Jazzman, d$ geeks out over new Russell AND new Baumbach, Mikey says "Dominatrix", #TwitterlessDrEarl loving some Tar, Anne Hathaway heads to another Oscar, She Said journalism, Amy Adams Amy Adams Amy Adams, Tom Hanks bad accents, Whitney biopic, Sarah Polley's critical love... And dozens and dozens and dozens more.
Sam and Ian are ready to add two new films to the conversation as we invite you to take the Oscar bait.Check us out on...Twitter @TSMoviePodFacebook: Time SensitiveInstagram: @timesensitivepodcastGrab some Merch at TeePublicBig Heads Media
