DC Mayor Muriel Bowser came out in the last 24 hours and demanded that the National Guard come and help her in Washington DC to overcome this crisis that they've got at in DC. And the Pentagon said, "No, we're not going to give you troops, we're not going to give you troops to help surmount this," which tells me something very, very important: There's going to have to be a point in time when this migrant flow stops in advance of the 2024 election. If Donald Trump decided he wanted to run for president today, he could run on this issue from now until the end of the Biden administration, and probably not repeat himself. Because this is such a huge violation of American sovereignty, number one, number two, this has got to be wrapped up right around the 2022 election because the minute you the minute you go into the 2024 cycle, what's going to happen is it's going to become a huge issue and any Democrat running Kamala Harris, Gavin Newsom, Dr. Fauci any of these Democrats running for president will have to answer the hard questions on this. So what do we think is going to happen? I laid the foundation for this last week, maybe two weeks ago, in which I said, I believe this issue with the migrant flows, now that they've got 2 million, 3 million coming in. It'll be time once the Democrats lose the house and I believe, take a real hit in the Senate. That will be the time at which Joe Biden comes in and says, "we are offering up this amnesty bill to galvanize all the Democrats because all the Democrats like open borders. All the Democrats are very big on open borders, trafficking, human trafficking," drug Trump, what they're not. How do we know that? And I believe that the cause of this amnesty will be Joe Biden saying, Look at what Greg Abbott is doing to all these cities, New York City and, and Washington DC, we've got to give these people a pathway forward, but only the people who have gotten here already. Okay. And the people who voted for the Democrats from parts around the world, they filled out ballots, but other than that, we got to shut this thing down. That's what we got to do. And he'll hope that they can either pass it or that it will fail. And then he can run on that for the next two years.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Biden wants election takeover, 2020 irregularities, DC Mayor says NIMBY and Pelosi knows

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 18, 2022 31:58

In today's show, I open with reporting by Mollie Hemingway, Editor-in-Chief at The Federalist on Joe Biden's Executive Order to all 600 agencies under his control. They were all to submit plans for how to Federalize elections and those plans were due within 200 days. While it seems the plans have been submitted, we know very little about them. As we head to the midterms, we have a lot to watch given the nature of that Executive Order. This leads to recent court rulings in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania showing their elections officials broke state laws in 2020. In fact, in Wisconsin, they not only adopted drop boxes, which were already illegal per state law, they also encouraged ballot harvesting. In similar fashion, Pennsylvania allowed for mail-in balloting, while their own State's Constitution expressly forbade that as a form of voting. But remember one of the goals of the J6 Committee is to convince you 2020 was a perfect election and to believe otherwise makes you an insurrectionist. DC Mayor Muriel Bowser continues to show how elites are all of passing things or allowing activities to go on, so long as it is somewhere else. It's the old acronym NIMBY – Not In My Back Yard. It seems DC's homeless shelters are being overburdened by illegals in our country. Mayor Bowser is mad because they have been bused there from Texas and Arizona. She, she's okay with illegals coming here...just not HERE. Her lack of self awareness was on full display over the weekend on CBS's Face the Nation. Over the weekend, leaked audio from 2016 came out between Joe Biden and then head of Ukraine Poroshenko. In the call, Biden was concerned newly elected Donald Trump might look into the details of money the U.S. has been giving to Ukraine if they were to ask him for more aid. Biden made it clear it would be bad for him and his country to allow that to happen. And while Nancy Pelosi says some of the dumbest things in support of their radical Marxist agenda, she is not dumb. What's amazing is to hear ABC News with Marha Raddatz admit that most Americans don't care about January 6th. They only care about the economy and inflation. Washington Post Live Anchor Leigh Ann Caldwell admits Pelosi is telling Democrats behind closed doors that the J6 Committee isn't driving the discussions at home. Finally, we return to Joe Biden, fresh off of meeting with the Crown Price of Saudi Arabia. Guess they didn't stay a “pariah” for too long. In a presser, Biden said he expects Saudi Arabia to begin drilling more to help the world supply. But, over the weekend, and Arab paper quoted the oil sector as saying, “We don't have the capacity to increase our oil production beyond the current limit.” I end with a short montage of Biden speaking and cannot understand why the world doesn't seem to respect him more. Take a moment to rate and review the show and then share the episode on social media. You can find me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, GETTR and TRUTH Social by searching for The Alan Sanders Show.

First, Dave shares a clip of New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio publicly stating that he wants to begin forcing vaccines. He stated in an MSNBC interview that the “we tried voluntary...the voluntary phase is over”. Will states or the federal government exploit the delta variant to try to increase vaccination rates by force? Meanwhile Democrats may be getting scared of losing the California recall election of Gavin Newsom. Elizabeth Warren just released a new ad that tries to smear the recall vote by trying to connect it to Trump and the Proud Boys. Is this proof that they are getting desperate? Finally, Dave discusses how DC Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that the city will be adding 170 police officers and requested new funding of $11 million. Just last year the city council voted to defund the police by $15 million. The mayor's announcement comes after the city saw a 16-year high in their homicide rate and rising gun violence. Mar 5, 2021: Capitol Remains On Guard

AM Quickie

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 5, 2021 8:47

Welcome to Majority.FM's AM QUICKIE! Brought to you by justcoffee.coop TODAY'S HEADLINES: Washington, DC, will remain in fortress mode as the Pentagon considers a request to keep the National Guard deployed there. Perhaps because of the heightened security, a reported threat against the Capitol yesterday failed to materialize. Meanwhile, in Silicon Valley, local officials swept a homeless encampment that sprung up near the Facebook campus. Advocates liken the scenes to something out of the Great Depression and say the wealthy need to do more to ensure everyone has access to housing. And lastly, there are two competing bills in Congress regarding the future of Puerto Rico and the question of statehood. Progressive groups favor the one backed by AOC, which aims to create a meaningful process around decolonization. THESE ARE THE STORIES YOU NEED TO KNOW: The seat of American power is still on high alert for threats from within. US Capitol Police have requested a sixty-day extension of the National Guard members activated in the District of Colombia in response to security threats and the January 6th assault on Congress, according to the Washington Post. If approved, it would keep Guard members on duty through May, defense officials said. About five thousand two hundred Guard troops are on duty in Washington now. They are staffing a security perimeter around the Capitol that includes miles of fencing around one of the major symbols of American democracy. The request appeared to catch DC Mayor Muriel Bowser by surprise, the Post reports. She said her expectation was that the additional forces would be leaving now, adding that Capitol Police have had limited communication with the city. The request comes after Capitol Police officials said Wednesday that they had information about a possible attempt by a militia group to breach the Capitol on Thursday, a date that some followers of QAnon falsely claimed would mark Donald Trump’s return to the White House. The House canceled a session yesterday in response, while the Senate remained in session to consider President Biden’s $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package. Concerns about QAnon at the Capitol were not borne out Thursday, the Post reports. While Guard members remained on duty and the fencing and barbed wire is still in place, there was no violence. The appearance of the military forces, and the onerous security measures in place, have become controversial – and politicized – in recent weeks. Representative Elissa Slotkin, Democrat of Michigan, called for more transparency. And some Republicans have questioned the need for the National Guard to stay. Of course, some Republicans cheered on the insurrection, so their judgment here is questionable. Homeless Evicted Near Facebook This vignette from the great class divide comes from the Los Angeles Times. In the shadow of Facebook’s headquarters, dozens of unsheltered people made their home on a sixty-acre plot of grass and marshland they shared with foxes, coyotes and other Silicon Valley wildlife. The encampment has existed for years, but started swelling in numbers last summer. In 2019, the Bay Area was home to more than twenty eight thousand homeless people, third nationwide behind only New York City with seventy six thousand and Los Angeles with fifty five thousand. Those numbers have likely increased during the pandemic. Sometimes tents appear on the edges of city parks, inches from multimillion-dollar homes. Heather Freinkel, an attorney for the Oakland-based Homeless Action Center, told the Times QUOTE I know it sounds dramatic, but the scale feels like something out of the Great Depression or Dust Bowl. It’s really not OK ENDQUOTE. As numbers in the camp swelled, infrastructure within the camp became increasingly intricate and complicated. Camp occupants dug four-feet deep latrines in the ground, erected solar panels around their structures, constructed chimneys into their shelters, and kept dogs that alerted them to strangers. A spokeswoman for Facebook told the Times that the company was not involved in the local decision to dismantle the neighboring encampment. In mid-February, a crew of Caltrans contractors arrived with three fifty-yard dumpsters and dismantled the tents and structures, removed the residents’ belongings and filled in the holes that dotted the landscape. By Monday of this week, an encampment had been partially rebuilt. A few days later, even more people had returned. What’s needed, advocates say, is more housing options — solutions that will allow people to live in dignity. Amen to that. Maybe Mark Zuckerberg should chip in. Puerto Rico Statehood Bills Considered There are dueling proposals for Puerto Rico’s future. Progressive organizations are pushing for passage of a bill they say gives Puerto Ricans a voice on the question of the island's status and its relationship with the US, NBC News reports. The push aims to present an alternative to pro-statehood legislation introduced Tuesday by two Puerto Rican members of Congress. In a letter sent yesterday to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, advocates from more than eighty grassroots organizations across sixteen states and Puerto Rico urged prioritizing the passage of the Puerto Rico Self- Determination Act of 2020. According to NBC, the progressive groups argue that unlike the statehood bill introduced on Tuesday by Representatives Darren Soto, Democrat of Florida, and Jenniffer Gonzalez, Republican of Puerto Rico, the Self-Determination Act would ensure that Puerto Ricans have access to a legitimate, accountable and inclusive process for decolonization. The bill was introduced last year by New York Democratic Representatives Nydia Velázquez and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. It proposed creating a status convention made up of delegates elected by Puerto Rican voters who would come up with a long-term solution for the island’s territorial status – whether it be statehood, independence, or any option other than the current territorial arrangement. Velázquez and AOC are expected to reintroduce their bill in the House this year, NBC reports. The Puerto Rico Statehood Admissions Act, introduced Tuesday by Soto and González, aims to make the island a state. The statehood legislation follows a referendum that took place last November. It directly asked voters whether Puerto Rico should immediately be admitted as a state. With nearly fifty-five percent voter turnout, about fifty three percent of Puerto Ricans who voted favored statehood while forty seven percent rejected it. With margins so close, the process matters that much more. AND NOW FOR SOME QUICKER QUICKIES: The Transportation Department’s internal watchdog found evidence of potential ethical violations by then-Secretary Elaine Chao and referred the case to the Justice Department for prosecution in December, but it declined, according to the Washington Post. Investigators from the Transportation Department’s Office of Inspector General said Chao used government employees to perform private tasks, such as arranging Christmas ornaments. Pretty tacky! Pope Francis and Ali al-Sistani, the spiritual leader of millions of Shiite Muslims, will meet in the Iraqi holy city of Najaf on Saturday, NBC reports. It is believed to be the first meeting between a pope and an Iraqi grand ayatollah. While at the Vatican, Francis has worked to build a Christian-Muslim alliance as a way to combat the cycle of Islamic terrorism and nationalist populist reactions. Al-Sistani has similarly called for peaceful coexistence and dialogue among faiths. When’s the last time you heard good news from Iraq? In a major shift in policy, California officials said Wednesday night they will now devote forty percent of available Covid-19 vaccines to residents in the most disadvantaged areas, the LA Times reports. The shift comes amid mounting evidence that Latino and Black communities are falling behind white and Asian ones in getting access to the vaccine. This has sparked concern in part because those underserved communities have been hardest hit by Covid-19. Vaccine justice now! The AFL-CIO's executive board will meet next week to determine its position on eliminating the filibuster, the labor federation's president, Richard Trumka, told Politico yesterday. If organized labor coalesces around overturning the filibuster, a priority for many progressives, it could give the movement significant momentum. And then all kinds of good and interesting things could happen. We’ll keep you posted either way. Intro: Minutes 0 to 5:15 We’re on a new schedule where we’ll be on for three weeks and off a week. We’ll have episodes out the 17th and 24th this month, January, and will be off the 31st.  The domestic terror attack: Minutes 5:15 to 18:45 On Wednesday we learned in the morning that Raphael Warnock won his senate race in Georgia and later in the day we heard Jon Ossoff had won, giving the Democrats control of the Senate. When the takeover of the Capitol Building happened that afternoon it wasn’t surprising that they tried. The seeming ease of the takeover and the lack of arrests was in stark contrast to the treatment of peaceful Black Lives Matter protestors over the summer. There is growing evidence that the Capitol Police were told to stand down. The lack of security and police force was complicated because Trump refused to authorize the National Guard and DC Mayor Muriel Bowser didn’t have jurisdiction over the Capitol Police. Pence eventually was contacted by the joint chiefs of staff and he authorized the National Guard. The congress people were terrorized and scared for their lives. Chandra says the Capitol Police might have chosen to stand down to diffuse the situation. We wonder how the mob even got on the steps of the building. We don’t know whether the 25th Amendment will be invoked by Pence and/or if Trump will be impeached. I play a segment from Zoom where Alnaaze, Ameerah, Karen and Zakia wonder if Biden will go after Trump. Chandra thinks Biden is playing it smart and waiting to let the authorities prosecute Trump. What we’re watching: Minutes 18:45 to 28 We both watched a lot of shows over the break. Our absolute favorite was Ted Lasso on Apple+. The writing and characters were amazing and we both loved Jason Sudeikis in the lead. It was heartfelt and sweet without being sugary. We both watched Bridgerton and liked it but didn’t love it. I play a segment from Zoom where Zakia, Alnaaze, Karen and Ameerah talk about the terrible bangs on Bridgerton. We wonder why there were so many bad bangs on that show when it wasn’t typical of the era. Chandra mentions that Daphne and Eloise both had different kinds of bangs trauma. I didn’t think the actress who played Daphne could act. Chandra and I wonder whether she was supposed to be more charismatic. Chandra couldn’t get into Derry Girls. I watched the first season but couldn’t get into the second. The main characters were too mean and destructive for Chandra. We both watched Imposters but I stopped after the first season and Chandra watched both. Hilaria Baldwin: Minutes 28 to 32:30 The best story at the end of the year was that Hilaria Baldwin, Alec Balwin’s wife, got exposed as faking her entire Spanish background and accent. It started before Christmas and picked up steam at the end of the year as people discovered her old interviews and videos. Hilaria denied it by talking around it without directly addressing it. The NY Times interview with her was so shady. She said she could defend herself except for “boundaries.” Here’s a link to the photo I mentioned of Hilaria Baldwin laying on the stove with her head in a frying pan. It turns out that her parents retired and moved to Spain when she was 28, and that she grew up privileged in Massachusetts, both her parents are American and even her grandparents were born in the US. Royals: Minutes 32:30 to 38:30 I loved the Archewell Podcast and was inspired to use more music in ours.  The Sussexes are covering People Magazine one year after Sussexit. Harry and Meghan are happy and have no regrets, which is really pissing off The Windsors. The Mirror had a salty story about how The Queen had plans for the one year review but that Harry hadn’t even called to make an appointment. Rebecca English wrote a huge “takedown” story in the Daily Mail claiming that the Queen personally refused Harry’s wreath-laying request on Remembrance Day. The original story was that the courtiers refused the request without contacting her. She also claimed that William’s marriage is better now that the Sussexes are gone, which is just a bizarre story to push. Comments of the Week: Minutes 38:30 to 44 My comment of the week is from Oh_Hey on the post about Calliou being canceled. Chandra’s comment of the week is from Angel on the post that Kim Kardashian and Kanye’s divorce is imminent.

Hundreds of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building on Wednesday, ransacking the House and Senate chambers and the offices of some lawmakers. Four people died and more than 50 Capitol and DC Metro police officers were injured. DC Mayor Muriel Bowser called the Capitol Police’s response a failure. About 70 people have been arrested so far. The Justice Department is pledging to criminally charge more of the rioters, and the FBI asked the public for help identifying them. The big question: How was the violence able to get so out of hand?

In Washington today, supporters of President Trump gathered to hear speakers, including the President himself, assert the fantasy that Trump won the Presidential election.  Later, large crowds of pro-Trump demonstrators, most unmasked, massed on the steps of the US Capitol and began breaching its public entrance, threatening the security of the building and the lawmakers within. The National Guard, which has been deployed at the request of DC Mayor Muriel Bowser, is unarmed. Inside the Capitol, a joint session of Congress had been attempting to certify the count of the 50 state electoral college electors, to officially declare Democrat Joe Biden the President-elect. The normally pro forma process has been marked by objections from a minority of Senate Republicans who argue, without evidence, that the November elections were fraudulent.  The proceeding were later interrupted when the Capitol building was breached by pro-Trump protesters. Security forces put the building on lock down, used teargas to clear demonstrators out of the building and evacuated lawmakers to safer quarters.   For a discussion of the constitutional process that was supposed to play out in the halls of Congress today -- and which will likely resume when order is restored --Tom is joined by Kim Wehle, a constitutional expert and a professor at the University of Baltimore School of Law. She is the author of several books, including How to Read the Constitution -- and Why, and What You Need to Know About Voting -- and Why.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
