Making a Scene Presents an Interview with Jeff Dale“The Hurricane Dale Thang” is a powerful combination of blues talent, making its live debut in 2018 when longtime friends Jeff Dale and Bobby Hurricane Spencer were joined by L.A. superstar musicians Elizabeth Hangan on bass and Albert Trepagnier Jr on drums. Jeff had a batch of songs he had written that felt like they needed other voices to connect with and he enlisted Bobby, Elizabeth, and Albert to take possession of them. Augmented by keyboard wizard Derek Phillips from Jeff's South Woodlawners band and with other stellar L.A. musicians such as Lester Lands, Pat Zicari and Jim Jedeikin adding to the mix, the Hurricane Dale Thang touched down and blew audiences away. http://www.makingascene.org

We may even ask you to join us on our weekly Linkedin Live chat show, #ThirstyThursday. Podcast Wars - The Rise of the Rewatch The cult hit TV show, Friday Night Lights, is the focus of a new 'rewatch' podcast, hosted by two of its stars Derek Phillips and Stacey Oristano, where they'll be sharing the juicy scoop, dishing out the gossip and revealing previously unknown behind-the-scenes moments. This format of podcast - where stars of a show literally rewatch each episode then press record and chat - isn't new. In fact versions of it are popping up everywhere. So why are they so popular? Well, we get to hear about the fun and scandalous stuff we didn't know (and didn't know we needed to know), and it feeds the fans' love and nostalgia for the show. So what's the point for the creators? Streaming, people. It's all about getting the fans to go rewatch too...and make more money. We're here for it - you know we are obsessed with the repurpose! The Leafs try to turn over a new...you know. (Does writing a lot about sports make us sportier? We think so. It's called osmosis, people.) This year, opening day for the Toronto Maple Leafs was newly coined Marketing Day in an attempt to change the narrative after yet another disappointing post-season (which last spring, when the Leafs exited after the first round of playoffs there was more than usual social media trolling / burning of jerseys). Now the Leafs are always going to be able to fill seats - this is Canada, after all - but as stated in this article, "The team is not worried about selling jerseys or tickets; it is selling a message; the key points are hope, optimism and belief.” Hopefully there will be a lot of believers out there - but there should be plenty of Beliebers, anyway, as Justin and his new clothing line, Drew, are collaborating with the team to create some truly Canadian designs. Don't get the vaccine Marketing win of the week: on Sunday outside a stadium in Charlotte, NC where the Carolina Panthers were playing, a truck drove around with a stark message: “Don't get vaccinated!” At first glance this looked like a typical anti-vaxxer ploy, until you looked closer and realized the sponsor of this message was “Wilmore Funeral Home”. Turns out there's no such place. And of if you went to the advertised website, you found a single page with the text “Get vaccinated now. If not, see you soon” linking to a vaccine appointment registry and FAQ page. It turns out this stunt was pulled off by a local marketing agency and any actual effect this will have on getting anti-vaxxers to change their minds is questionable. But like us, they are sick of the false narratives and want to make a statement (and maybe have some fun trolling the anti-v crowd!) Missing White Woman Syndrome The internet and the media has been in a frenzy the last couple of weeks about the story of Gabby Petito's disappearance and murder...a fever known as "Missing White Woman Syndrome". The term was coined by PBS news anchor Gwen Ifill in the early 2000s about the obsession and attention given to white women who go missing or are murdered, while there are thousands of POC and indigenous women also missing. In fact, did you know that murder is the 3rd leading cause of death of indigenous women in the US? Meanwhile we all know the tragic stories and names of murdered white women like Laci Peterson and Natalee Holloway thanks to the huge amount of media surrounding the cases. Not to diminish what has happened to Gabby and other white women, but it's very unfair that so many other women have been murdered and we haven't batted an eye. We're so glad to see this vital conversation happening. Annie Murphy's private parts go pubic. I mean public. After famously playing ditzy Alexis Rose in Schitt's Creek, then delving into something a little darker in Kevin Can F**ck Himself, Annie Murphy is taking us on a journey to a much deeper place. Partnering with Phexxi, a brand new hormone-free birth control gel, Annie stars in an hilarious, innuendo-filled commercial that happens to be set, well…inside her vagina. This happens to be a luxurious place where ain't nobody got time for traditional, hormonal, mood-swing-inducing birth control. We're not surprised to find out this genius ad was thought up by an all-female creative team, checking all the boxes for female empowerment. For these stories and more on Facebook's sketchy moves, the unfair demonization of the lovely Rosemary Barton, and Joan Rivers, who lives rent-free in our heads, listen to the full episode!

The Real Dads™ Network is the outgrowth of the award winning documentary Real Dads – Black Men on Fatherhood (2000) which included commentary by the late Ossie Davis and was directed by Derek Phillips and Nikki Dees. The purpose of the documentary was to show positive black fathers who were actively involved in the nurturing and the raising of their children. As a result of the documentary, it became evident that there was a STRONG NEED for an organization where fathers could: – Tell there stories and share their experiences – Get information about being better fathers – Have real conversations about manhood, fatherhood and family – And feel connected to something powerful and empowering Thus in 2004, the Real Dads™ Network was founded by Derek Phillips. The mission of the Real Dads™ Network is: Create a culture where all the fathers are actively involved in the parenting process, and are portrayed and viewed as exemplary role models by society. The mission of Real Dads™ Network is to: – Strengthen the institution of the Family by recognizing and promoting positive aspects of fatherhood in all media. – Provide fathers with a support system that connects them to resources which are designed to empower them to be Real Dads: Present, Providers, Protectors and Peacemakers. – Advocate for shared parenting as the standard for public policy decisions. – Collaborate with organizations to create positive outcomes for fathers and their children. Derek Phillips is the founder and Executive Director of Real Dads™ Network, an organization that is committed to strengthening the institution of the family by promoting the positive aspects of fatherhood in the media. It is their belief that children do better, both developmentally and in the attainment of life opportunities, when both parents are actively involved in parenting, regardless of the marital or living circumstances. He is also the founder and President of Jorma Productions, an independent production company (affectionately named after his two daughters) that is committed to creating projects and programs that are educational, inspiring and empowering. Derek was in education for over twenty years in New York City. Derek is an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and through his works, and actions and words, and actions, he is committed in educating, uplifting and empowering our youth and the community. His motto is “If everyone does a part, then no one is left doing the whole thing.” He resides in Peekskill, New York with Maria his loving wife and Jordyn and Maya, his two beautiful daughters. Recently, Derek was on our show. During our conversation, Derek talked about: – Some of story including not being interested in school when he was young, his mother dying when he was ten, his father not being in his life when he was growing up, no father mother passed away and growing up in a dysfunctional family – Learning on how to be a parent by raising his nieces – When did he realize that he had to something involving fatherhood – The story behind the Real Dads™ Network – The insights he received about fatherhood after him being involved in education for over twenty years – The success of the Daddy Daughter Dance, Real Dads Week and other successes in the journey – The continuous challenge that many Black fathers have providing for their children and some of the other challenges that Black fathers face – How did getting married, having children and his wife have impacted his thoughts about fatherhood – Black fathers and Black dads who are separated and divorced who want to spend time with their child(ren) – The importance of Black men taking care of themselves – Some of the services that the Real Dads™ Network offers – What's up next for the Real Dads™ Network – His message to non-melanated people, the Black community, Black mothers and Black dads about Black fatherhood – What are Black fathers telling him about 2020 You can find out more information about the Real Dads™ Network via: Website Facebook Twitter Instagram Email Phone: (212) 875-7725 Visit The Dr. Vibe Show™ at www.thedrvibeshow.com Please feel free to email us at dr.vibe@thedrvibeshow.com Please feel free to “Like” the “The Dr. Vibe Show” Facebook Fan Page here God bless, peace, be well and keep the faith, Dr. Vibe dr.vibe@thedrvibeshow.com 2018 Innovation Award Winner – Canadian Ethnic Media Association The Dr. Vibe Show™ At “The Good Men Project” One of the first Brand Ambassador's – Cuisine Noir Magazine Dr. Vibe – Producer And Co-host of Black Men Talking On WJMS Radio Dr. Vibe on HuffPost Live – August 2, 2013 2013 Black Weblog Awards Finalist (Best Podcast) 2012 Black Weblog Awards Winner (Best International Blog) 2012 Black Weblog Awards Finalist (Best Podcast) 2011 Black Weblog Awards Finalist (Best International Blog and Best Podcast Series) Black Blog Of The Day – Black Bloggers Network – June 23, 2011 Twitter Twitter hashtag: #DrVibe The Dr. Vibe Show™ – iTunes The Dr. Vibe Show™ – Spotify Dr. Vibe Media – You Tube The Dr. Vibe Show™ – Stitcher Radio The Dr. Vibe Show™ – TuneIn Radio The Dr. Vibe Show™ – Google Play Music The Dr. Vibe Show™ – iHeartRadio The Dr. Vibe Show™ at Anchor Linkedin – The Dr. Vibe Show™ Instagram The Dr. Vibe Show Facebook Fan Page

World champion Levi Morgan joins the podcast to discuss his latest tournament season, his tournament and hunting bow setup, and the importance of knowing how to tune your bow. About levi Morgan I grew up in the small town of Rosman, NC. One red light kinda town and if you didn’t like to hunt or fish there just wasn’t much to do. Maybe thats the reason I grew to love archery so much at a young age. My dad was a big bowhunter so naturally I would shoot and spend time outdoors with him. He started taking me to local club shoots when I was 5 years old, and I won pretty much all of them. From there he noticed something in me I guess and he took me to my first world shoot when I was only 6. I took first runner up in my age division. I was in love with competition and the bow and arrow. I continued on through my youth competing in ASA and IBO events and winning most that I entered. Bowhunting was also a huge part of my life and as I got older I grew to love it more than the competition. Through high school I quit competing and I focused on other sports. I loved basketball and baseball but in my heart I always knew what I was gonna do. My senior year I had full rides in both sports but turned them down to pursue my real passion…..Archery and Bowhunting. Looking back its a little scary how as an 18 year old kid I threw scholarships away to chase an archery career. 2006 was my first year as a pro I was very successful but didn’t get a single win. Maybe because I spent the entire year trying to win the heart of a girl named Samantha Kline, now my wife. I did win rookie of the year that year and in 2007 I got my first professional win. I went on to win Shooter of the Year that year as well as the ASA World Championship. I have now won Shooter of the year 10 years in a row and several more World titles. Samantha and I also started a outdoor television show in 2008 and now that is a huge part of our lives. That show is now called “Bow Life” which really describes our past, present, and hopefully future. We have a 4year old son named Landon who is our world and I cant wait for him to start his own journey in the outdoors with mom and dad tagging along! God has been so good to our little family and we owe all of our success to HIM. (excerpt from bowlife) LEVI MORGAN BACK AT MATHEWSTen-time Shooter of the Year, Levi Morgan, returns to Mathews’ Pro Staff more confident than ever. “When you’re competing at this level, consistency is everything. I need to go into every tournament knowing my bow will hold its tune.” says Morgan. “That’s what I had with Mathews for 15 years. They make the best-tuning, most accurate bows in the world.” Born and raised in Rosman, North Carolina, Morgan began competing in archery tournaments at age six. Since first signing with Mathews at age 18, he has become one of the most decorated archers of all-time. His long list of accomplishments includes 8 World Championships, 40 National Championships, 10 Shooter of the Year, 3 Triple Crowns, and 10 World Records. “I was super impressed with Mathews’ new target bows,” says Morgan, “I shot perfect scores on my first three rounds shooting the new TRX, which has made me more confident than ever going into this season.” Morgan, and his wife Samantha, return to Mathews’ dominant Pro Staff just one month after 5-time World Cup Champion, Jesse Broadwater, also joined the team shooting the new TRX. “Levi Morgan is the best 3D shooter of this century and we’re excited to have him back,” says Mathews Pro Staff Manager, Derek Phillips. “I think it speaks volumes to what we have created for our new target line. It’s catching a lot of attention from the best competitors in target archery.” (excerpt from Mathews Archery)
BJM's Greg Poole is joined by Mathews pro staff manager Derek Phillips to discuss all things staff shooting!! From Getting sponsored, what companies look for, what is expected from archers at each level of a staff program and how new comers need to build relationships with their local shop. Greg & Derek also discuss how the industry is not in the position social media would have people believing and talk about the misconception that most pros get paid to shoot.
