A coalition of sex workers, their allies, and lawmakers are encouraging Oregon to decriminalize sex work. They say current laws punish consenting adults who buy and sell sex, drawing a distinction from sex trafficking. But how would that work? And how will this differ from the messy process of decriminalizing drug possession in the state? Today on City Cast Portland, we're talking with Elle Stanger, a Portland-based certified holistic sex educator, sex worker, and host of the “They Talk Sex” podcast. They're here to help walk us through those questions. This interview touches on some explicit topics, including sex work and sex trafficking. It feels so good to be back from hiatus. I hadn't realized what disengaging from my identity here as a podcaster was doing for me, but it was through this experience that I learned. I was prioritizing money over being and in turn I was able to identify various ways my identity was being invalidated over time. That invalidation of identity led to burnout manifested in the form of a hiatus. On this episode, you see where I'm at and where we're going with SPFPP. And also, shoutout to Elle Stanger for putting me onto Audre Lorde who I tried to quote in this podcast episode but butchered it, “Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare”.
We're back with another interview on the Pink Pussy Podcast! Today we're joined by Elle Stanger - aka Stripper Writer! I'm super excited about this episode and honestly, it was even better than I anticipated! Elle has held many jobs in the adult industry including porn shop manager, pole dancing stripper, porn maker, writer, certified sex educator, podcast host, model, and more. Per usual, we go on so many different tangents but we talk about why sex education is so important - especially as it relates to teaching children about body parts, consent, etc., how to feel less shame around sex, stereotypes about sex work/the sex industry, what's going on in Texas related to the anti-abortion ban (and some resources for people who need them) - and so much more. In this episode, we do talk about suicide. Her partner died by suicide earlier this year and my mother also took her own life when I was younger. We talk about why it's so hard to talk about it and also how people can be supportive of someone who lost a loved one to suicide. This is an amazing episode and we can't wait to hear what you think! Rerun of our first episode ever! This episode really defines what the podcast is all about because the guest, Elle Stanger, is so phenomenal, captivating, knowledgable, and illuminating. Allow her to educate you about sex work as she did me. --------------------------------- Comedian Cory Michaelis does his first stripper interview with Elle Stanger (@stripperwriter) from Portland, Oregon. Elle is a sex educator, stripper, does other sexual work, and has an insightful and wonderful podcast called ‘Strange Bedfellows’. Tune in to hear her sultry voice and check out the video at Patreon.
We are very excited to announce that Season Two of "Stripper Whisperer" will be released on Monday, April 26th at 8am EST. For Episode One, comedian Cory Michaelis interviews the incomparable "Chloe" from London - she's a funny, charming, and irreverent host of her own stripper-themed podcast called “Stripper Stories!”. If you’re a listener from Season One, welcome back and thank you for staying subscribed even though we took the year off. COVID was very serious and detrimental to so many people worldwide as well as - not nearly as importantly - taking a real toll on the entertainment business and kept Cory from touring to do comedy and interviews. But once everyone got used to virtually meeting, it was actually much easier for him to snag interviews. You can imagine that trying to book them in person while I was on the road doing comedy wasn’t the easiest, like "hey I have this podcast in my hotel room I'd love you to come do it" uhhhh...sure you do buddy...I'm not coming to your hotel room to do your "podcast". So, going virtual has been far less intrusive and allowed Cory to interview women from amazing and exotic places all of the world, Chloe from London, women in Latin America, and Canadians. For those of you who are brand new to the podcast, here’s the deal. I love going to strip clubs, they’re very interesting to me and I’ve learned there are so many similarities between strippers and comedians so I want to learn all about the women (and hopefully some men soon!) who work in them. Have you ever wondered what it’s really like to be a stripper? Are the things you think about them and their job accurate? Do they feel empowered or is it degrading like a lot of people think? Are they putting themselves through college or supporting kids or something else OR, and have you ever even considered this, just doing a job they enjoy that pays them well? Crazy idea right!? What are their dreams and goals and are they really ALL that different from other women? And, whether you frequent strip clubs or not, how can we all do a better job of supporting the women who work in this industry and perform what truly is a beautiful art form and a legitimate service - just not full service. Although, some are happy to charge you for that outside of the club in a safe and legal way. So, join Cory Michaelis as he gets behind the G-string and interviews strippers from all over the world to learn what it’s like working in the clubs, what their lives are like outside of the club, and how we can all be better customers in their space. We think you’ll be intrigued AND surprised by what you hear. You can get the first episode of Season Two on Monday, April 26th and a new episode will be released every Monday at 8am. BUT, if you scroll down you can listen to all of Season One right now and why not start with episode one and Portland’s Elle Stanger. We would love it so much if you supported the podcast by subscribing on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, or Stitcher and giving us a 5 star review with some nice words. And if you’re a stripper who would like to be interviewed, please reach out to Cory on INSTAGRAM. Also, go HERE to follow Cory on all the things.
We've all heard the negative stereotypes when it comes to sex work, but it gets worse when you or if you decide to bear a child. Calgary-based stripper, Lil Kat, joins me on the show this week to speak about the additional struggles of being a mom AND being a sex worker. The mislabeling of sex worker moms is a tired double standard which continues to happen to this day. We discuss Sigmund Freud's Madonna/whore complex which is still perpetuated to all moms today, regardless of their occupation; however, it hits harder when it comes to sex workers. Lil Kat opens up about the challenges she currently faces as a dancer which come from outsiders looking in, friends and family and even her partner. But it's not all negative - we also discuss the pros of being a sex worker during pregnancy, working conditions in corporate jobs vs. the sex industry, and the perks of creating content on your own time on various platforms (Lil Kat uses Premium Snapchat, OnlyFans, and her own direct site). Oh, and I spill a little tea on the Elle Stanger controversy which you can look up on your own time! @lilkatattack twitter.com/lilkatattack tiktok.com/lilkatattack Don't forget to LIKE, RATE, SHARE, REVIEW and SUBSCRIBE! @strippedbysia @siasteph www.stephsia.com

Elle Stanger- an activist, writer and stripper- joins us for a conversation about a Oregon's activist history and the role feminism will play under the Trump presidency. Elle has a degree in criminal justice from PSU and is currently working on her sex educator certification. She frequently contributes sex advice columns to Thrillist and has used her work as stripper to raise money for a number of causes (including Planned Parenthood). She is also the co-organizer of Portland's Slutwalk and was instrumental in the passage of Oregon bill HB 3059, which provided services to sex workers. In this episode we look back at the life of Marie Equi, who was one of Oregon's first female doctors. She was also a hardcore activist who supported workers and women's rights, served jailed time in San Quentin for her protest against World War 1, and was an out-of-the-closet lesbian who regularly ruffled the feathers of Portland's elite.
Elle Stanger is a stripper/sex worker/exotic dancer/intimacy therapist/political activist/tattoo fancier. She's busy. And smart, funny, and sexy as all get-out.
