This show has been flagged as Clean by the host. Greetings and welcome to Hacker Public Radio. My name is Peter Paterson, also known as SolusSpider. In my spare time I like to watch scifi shows and movies, including those about superheroes. I am so looking forward to the new Superman movie by DC, with James Gunn as showrunner. In that film the actor Nathan Fillion plays a Green Lantern named Guy Gardner. Recently I remembered that I owned a Green Lantern Blu-ray animated movie with Nathan Fillion as the voice of Hal Jordan. That movie is named Emerald Knights. These days when I purchase a Blu-ray it normally comes with a digital code for Movies Anywhere . Therefore I often never play the physical disk at all. This particular disk did not have that option. I searched the streaming services for where to watch Green Lantern: Emerald Knights. Seems it is only available for rent or purchase. Obviously since I own the disk I am not going to do that. Therefore, I tried once again to try to play the disk directly on my Linux system. We do have dedicated Blu-ray players in the house. One is a Samsung unit in our living room, but that is where my Dragon-in-Law Eva lives. The other is a Playstation 3 in our bedroom. There is also the factor that I wanted to watch while doing other computer projects in my own room. My main computer system is a System76 Thelio desktop running PCLinuxOS as the operating system. Connected via USB is an Asus External Blu-Ray BW-16D1H-U player . Rather than go into detail with all that did not work, I shall instead focus on informing you what worked well on my own system. Many of the forums lead you down strange paths. It all came down to installing all I needed from Flatpak via Flathub.org Here is all that I installed: VLC : org.videolan.VLC MakeMKV : com.makemkv.MakeMKV Blu-ray java plugin : org.videolan.VLC.Plugin.bdj FDK-AAC encoding plugin : org.videolan.VLC.Plugin.fdkaac MakeMKV plugin for VLC : org.videolan.VLC.Plugin.makemkv Detailed program names are in the shownotes. To install these direct from terminal type: flatpak install (name of program) These instructions assume that you already have Flatpak installed on your Linux system. If you do not, then the Flathub website will give you guidance for your particular distro. I did have to uninstall VLC first from PCLinuxOS, which had been installed from the repo. This enabled all the relevant library files to be accessible across Flatpak. MakeMKV is a format converter, or transcoder, that converts the files on a physical disk to MKV files. Many use this program to copy their Blu-Rays to a storage medium for their own home-streaming purposes. I have yet to go down that road, as I just wanted to play the disk. Plus I don't have that much storage. I originally purchased MakeMKV for $50 in 2020. Yes, paid. It is a proprietary program, but then again so is the Blu-Ray disk encryption. These days it costs $60 for a lifetime licence. That said, MakeMKV is beta software that is free to use, and they supply a licence key that is good for a month. The only downside is that you have to visit their forum page every month to obtain the updated key code. Once all this was installed, I opened VLC, clicked on 'Open Disk...' from Media, selected Blu-ray from Disk Selection, then clicked on Play. For me it just worked! Hope it shall do for you also. It's so great to be able to directly play Blu-rays on my Linux system again. Remember the Green Lantern oath: "In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight. Let those who worship evil's might beware my power… Green Lantern's light!" Thank you so much for listening to my latest topic of interest. Please leave me a comment on the HPR show page. I look forward to hearing from you. Now go forth, take care of yourself, also your fellow neighbours, and record your own HPR show! Provide feedback on this episode.

It is believed that this type of content is why Amouranth's channel can no longer be monetized with ads – and it will cost her a significant loss of income.According to the streamer herself, an average month of ad revenue on Twitch for her was around $35,000 – $40,000.Meaning, that over an entire year of streaming, this could amount to as much as $480,000 from ads alone – an income she will no longer be able to generate on Twitch.Red- I am sure she will find a way to make up for the lost revenue dont you think?Twitch is lowering subscription prices — but says streamers will earn more moneyTwitch is announcing a big change to subscription prices — but not for users in the US.From the vergeMost countries outside of the US will be getting lower prices that will be localized to their specific country, starting with Turkey and Mexico on May 20th. Those lower prices will mean less money for streamers, but Twitch believes they'll translate to more subscribers and higher earnings in the long run.The upcoming change is intended to make subscriptions more affordable for Twitch's global audience. And early tests from Twitch seem promising: the company tested localized pricing in Brazil and saw that streamer revenue and total subscriber count “more than doubled,”But Twitch is also preparing for a potential scenario where streamers could see their revenue fall as a result of the price changes, because streamers will need more subscribers — potentially a lot more — just to match their current earnings. If a streamer's revenue falls below their usual baseline (which Twitch calculates for every streamer) after the localized prices roll out, Twitch will pay that streamer a “revenue adjustment incentive” to help make up the difference.Ghost - Ghost I am wondering how this will affect gift subs. Like say I gift a sub to another country streamer will they get the revenue split of my payment or what a sub is in their country. What do you think??Twitch introduces experimental 'chant' feature for chattersTwitch is giving some communities access to a new experimental chat feature called “chant,” the popular streaming platform announcedThe feature gives content creators and moderators who use the /chant command to “suggest messages in chat.”The command will then give viewers a private message encouraging them to join others in spamming the specific message. This feature will only available for a limited time, according to Twitch's post on its customer support account on Twitter. But the exact length of time for the experiment was not disclosed.Stump - I need a bold prediction. Interactive Entertainment? We still don't have all the answers, but a spokesperson told Axios writer Sara Fischer that "some of the gaming arm will stay with AT&T and some will go with the new company."AT&T's new deal with Discovery represents a big change for the company--the main takeaway is that it's leaving content production by selling WarnerMedia to Discovery to create the new spinoff company. The deal's announcement was said to be "rushed,"There were reports that AT&T was planning to sell or spin off WBIE, with Microsoft, Take-Two, EA, and Activision all said to be involved or interested--in some capacity--in exploring a buyout. But in September 2020, AT&T said it was no longer seeking to sell WBIE.WarnerMedia is behind gigantic franchises like Game of Thrones, Mortal Kombat, The Lord of the Rings, and many others. It's also the operator of the newly launched HBO Max.WBIE has a number of major games in development right now across its studios, including Harry Potter: Hogwarts Legacy from Avalanche and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League from Rocksteady.Ghost - With some pretty big titles on the way do you think they will end up spinning out to another company or sell WBIE outright?Netflix eyes video game expansion, according to new report.Netflix is reportedly searching for an executive to head up an expansion into video games, according to a report published Friday by The Information. The report suggests Netflix has approached multiple “veteran game industry executives” regarding the position, which would expand its efforts in video games.A Netflix spokesperson told Polygon the company is “excited to do more with interactive entertainment.”The streaming platform has experimented with interactive video experiences and video games in the past — in 2018, it published Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, a Choose Your Own Adventure-style movie, followed by a similarly interactive experience in 2020 for an Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt episode. That's on top of its experience producing series based off video game properties, like Dota, Castlevania, and The Witcher and its spinoffs, etcthe so-called “streaming wars” have been ongoing for years as companies prepared to launch new services, and Netflix said in 2019 that its biggest competition is actually Fortnite, which is what more likely pulls players away from the streaming service.Fortnite is a video game, yes — but developer Epic Games is also building what is calls “the Metaverse,” a growing virtual world that's more than a video game. Indeed, Fortnite is now a place where people turn for movies; over the past year, Epic has held multiple movie nights, where players can watch films through a screen in Fortnite, as well as the debut of a Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker trailer.Stump - I am intrigued by the idea of the metaverse and you and I have talked about Veve and OMI which is using NFT's to create assets for the metaverse. Do you think this will fare any different?HBO Max is getting new animated Batman and Superman showsLast but not least from the vergeHBO Max is getting a pair of new animated DC shows: Batman: The Caped Crusader and My Adventures with Superman, WarnerMedia announced today. The two shows appear pretty different in tone. The Caped Crusader, coming from a team that includes J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves (the director of the upcoming The Batman), and Bruce Timm (one of the co-creators of the fan-favorite Batman: The Animated Series) promises a noir-ish “reimagining” of the character.“The series will be thrilling, cinematic and evocative of Batman's noir roots, while diving deeper into the psychology of these iconic characters,” Abrams, Reeves, and Timm commented in a joint announcement. The teaser poster showcasing the art style for the series seems to back up the darker tone, with a grim-looking Batman (with an old-school pointed ear cowl) staring down at Gotham City.On the flip side of the thematic coin is My Adventures with Superman, which will follow the 20-something lives of Clark Kent (Jack Quaid), Lois Lane (Alice Lee), and Jimmy Olsen as they collectively start their journalism careers, fall in love, and for Clark, start his burgeoning career as the Man of Steel.Stump- How much lens flare can JJ Abrams get into an animated Batman show?BOLD PREDICTIONS~Plug your stuff.~Zazzaboo plug the site, Pod etc~Don't forget to check out the patreon. Hey there folks, and welcome back to another episode of Just One of the Guys, a podcast that is 100% Hagman free. I hope you enjoyed Dave Weter and my little diversion at the beginning of this month, but it's back to nothing but Green Lantern this time out. In issue #107, we see the wrap up of the Emerald Knights story where Kyle tries to figure out what to do with the Green Lantern ring left to him by the time displaced Hal. His first thoughts are obviously to seek out Earth's former Green Lanterns, Alan Scott, John Stewart, and most importantly Guy Gardner, but for some reason they all turn him down. But Kyle does find an awesome candidate to wield the ring, current snuggle bunny Jenny Lynn Hayden. And let's just say, she definitely wears the uniform well. And she's able to use her powers (also know as boobies) to subdue the rampaging Hulk...I mean, Sledge, who just happens to be in town. It's a nice little story that will set up Jenny as GL for a while in the book, and it leads into a story about Kyle trying to form "The New Corps". And to make the show even better, I've corraled my good friend, Mr. Thomas Deja (host of Better in the Dark with his best friend Derrick Ferguson) to discuss how amazing the classic Green Lantern uniform looks on the female form and to joke about Morrisey getting a Green Lantern ring. Good times abound! So unless you want a 16 ton ring construct anvil dropped on your head, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and start to listening! It's that time again, time to grab your mp3 players and download the latest episode of Just One of the Guys. Or you can just stream it from the Two True Freaks website, either way works for me, and they pay is the same either way as well. This time out, our Green Lantern book continues the "Emerald Knights" storyline where a time-displaced Hal Jordan meets up with John Stewart and Guy Gardner (his two replacements that he hasn't yet met), seeks out Tom Kalmaku and Carol Ferris (his two best friends who thought him dead), and has an unnecessary tussle with Kalibak. Seriously, I swear all this character has been used for is a couple of one shot stories where he poses a minor threat to the Green Lantern, gets his butt SOUNDLY kicked, then limps back to Apokolips where he will inevitably get berated and belittled by his father, Darkseid. Our second book this time out is a three part special dealing with Kyle, Alan Scott, and Jenny Lynn Hayden entitled "Green Lantern/Sentinel: Heart of Darkness". If you remember in issue 96, Jade was pulled through a weird portal that appeared in Kyle's apartment, and now it's up to Kyle and Alan to track Jade down. And the first place the emerald allies search is a private asylum where Alan is keeping a near comatose Hank King Jr (a.k.a. Brainwave Jr.) captive after his mental breakdown. But BJ (hee-hee) isn't as out of it as our heroes would believe as he warps reality to trick and trap our heroes. Plus there's a cliffhanger appearance from another member of Infinity Inc., so this show could practically be a sister show of Tales of the Justice Society of America! Yeah, I'm certain Scott would love to have that happen. But the show won't listen to itself, so what are you waiting for? Download it now!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! Happy New Year, faithful listeners, and welcome back to the show that brings you coverage of Green Lantern comics from the Chromium Age, Just One of the Guys. This week in our coverage we're taking a look at Green Lantern #95, a book with Jim Starlin art, which one would think would be awesome as Starlin is known for doing cosmic really well. This time the art is hindered by an inventory story about creepy Mojo from the X-Men wannabes who live on a planet serviced by robots being stalked by a giant spider. Plus there's some lesson about not relying on technology to do yoour bidding or something...I tuned out. But the art is neat, so there's that. Sadly, the same can't be said about Green Lantern Corps Quarterly #6, which I like to call "THE OBVIOUSLY WRITTEN BY MALES FEMALE EMPOWERMENT ISSUE!!!" This time out we get Boodikka and her mom playing soccer her grandmother's dessicated head, Alan Scott facing down a groupie for the band Winger (maybe that's Harlequin, I can't be certain), a story of fatherly betrayal that got adapted into a story for the Emerald Knights animated movie...and tubby alien Oprah Green Lantern. Yes, you read that right, and you can't unread it. Just when I thought the Muppet bugs story would be the worst of this run. Plus there are interludes of 90's, pregnant, man-bashing Power Girl yelling at everyone while doing bench presses. Hooray for equality! So unless you want me to suggest Geoff Johns to bring back the character of Green Lantern Mardin, I would ask you to grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and start to listening! Addendum: Here is the link to Luke Jaconetti's blog about Kull the Conqueror.Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks!
