Liam Squire was one of the most feared players in world rugby, he had an incredible ability to throw his body into contact with zero thought of self preservation. While that approach helped Liam Squire the player, it's taken a serious toll on the body of Liam Squire the man. He's had an endless amount of injuries throughout his career and is now left with serious hip pain, shoulder pain and knee pain as he moves into the next chapter of his life.In this Fan Favourite episode of What a Lad, Liam opens up about the full journey through rugby and life. From growing up in Tokoroa and finding his way into professional rugby, to becoming an All Black, dealing with injuries, stepping away from the 2019 Rugby World Cup and ultimately being forced into retirement. Some parts that stood out for me in this episode were…How quickly his rise from provincial rugby to becoming an All BlackDealing with the fame of becoming an All BlackWinning a Super Rugby title with the Highlanders and the culture that made that team specialWhy he never felt completely comfortable in the All Blacks environmentThe pressure and scrutiny leading into the 2019 Rugby World CupHis battles with injury and the mental toll of spending so much time on the sidelinesBeing told by a surgeon that if he wanted quality of life later on, it was time to retireHow he has adjusted to life after rugby and what retirement has really been likeThis episode was recorded back in 2021 but this conversation shows a side of him that most people have never seen. Honest, reflective and incredibly open, this is a fascinating insight into the highs and lows of professional rugby and the price that can come with giving everything to the game. Hosted on Acast. In this fan favourite episode of Untidy, Matilda and Hannah are joined by internationally renowned exercise physiologist and nutrition scientist Dr Stacy Sims — a trailblazer on a mission to revolutionise how women train, eat, and perform. Known for her viral TED Talk “Women Are Not Small Men”, bestselling book Roar, and over 100 peer-reviewed papers, Stacy has dedicated her career to closing the gender gap in sports science. In this conversation, she dives into the often-overlooked physiological and emotional challenges girls face during puberty — challenges that are too often misunderstood or ignored, causing many to lose confidence and drop out of sport. With her new course NEXT GEN, Stacy is focused on educating coaches and parents to better support developing girls. She explores how puberty impacts performance, confidence, and injury risk, and why it’s crucial to rethink how we train and talk to our daughters. From the damaging effects of language like “girl pushups” and “sissy squats,” to the ripple effects of diet culture and uniform design, Stacy highlights the changes we need to make — and how to do it. This episode is a rallying cry to shift the culture around girls’ health, sport, and self-image — and to give them the tools, language, and support they deserve. Jamison Gibson Park has gone on to be without a doubt one of the best 9s in world rugby! He's one of my favourite players to watch the way he plays with speed and controls the tempo of games while always nailing the basics. He was also one of my favourite team mates to play with because he was just a massive lad. 4 years ago this episode was recorded where he had just debuted for Ireland so it's pretty cool to hear some of the conversations we had around his future plans to see how far he has exceeded them! Some other parts that stood out for me in this episode...Hearing about the rural upbringing Jamison had on Great Barrier Island. How he handled missing out on the NZ 20's even though many felt he should've been in there. How he was shafted by the Blues.Winning the Super Rugby with the Hurricanes, starting as a wider squad member. Why he left NZ.How he had found it over in Ireland & with Leinster. And heaps more!As you'll hear, Jammo is a massive lad and it's been so cool seeing him starring at RWC's with Ireland and now on the Lions tour. He is one of the greats! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Ben Ennis and Brent Gunning start the morning getting right into the Blue Jays' 5-4 loss to the Yankees, snapping their historic win streak at home. The hosts break down Max Scherzer's start with thoughts on his pitch command, how much he's still got in the tank, and the decision to allow him to pitch to Aaron Judge. B&B continue talking about the team's pitching and wonder if the Jays have overused Jeff Hoffman coming out of the break. The pair then look at Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s recent production at the plate and discuss if criticisms regarding his lack of power are valid. Later, the duo dive into unconventional putting-strokes, before wrapping up with a chat about Dakota Joshua choosing to wear No. 81 with the Maple Leafs. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.

For this weeks Fan Favourite episode we throw back to one of the most powerful episodes to date, I'll always remember this episode for the feeling of goosebumps I got down my spine as Michael Fatialofa shared his incredible journey. Fats was one of the toughest players on the field I ever played with and he proved he was even tougher off it after a life changing tackle. The former Auckland, Southland and Hurricanes star was over in the UK playing for Worcester, when he was hit awkwardly in a tackle that caused him to be Paralysed from the neck down. He was told he will never walk again! From that moment his life had changed forever and hearing the battle he has gone through the last 3 years left me feeling inspired, sad and proud of what he has been able to achieve. This episode is an awesome reminder to be truely grateful for everything you have in your life, as like in Michaels case it can literally be taken away from you overnight. I'm so grateful to Fat's for coming on What a Lad and speaking so openly about his journey, it is one of the most powerful and inspiring episodes ever! Hosted on Acast. We got back to an early fan favourite for this one with the great Mark Stafford! The beauty of a podcast, you think you know someone well, then you sit with them on the podcast and you are absolutely blown away with their story. That is exactly how this episode with the great man Mark Stafford aka Staffy went. Staffy has had an incredible journey to become the face of the TAB and the face of sport here in NZ but he certainly had a few bumps along the way. He shares some mind blowing stories in this episode including one how he died in a car crash but was brought back to life, in an event that ended his rugby career. Staffy also gives some unreal insight in to what goes on behind the scenes at the tab and some unbelievable match fixing stories.I loved this episode as it has a bit of everything in it and you can hear what a genuinely great lad Staffy is!If you enjoy this episode as always please share it, this is a great one to share with anyone who is having a tough time. Voted by you guys as the funniest episode ever!Charlie Gubb is one of my all time favourite Warriors, not just because of the way he played on the field (even though he was an absolute animal) but more importantly because of how big of a lad that he is off it.Gubby is the kind of team mate everyone loves to have in the team environment, loves a yarn, loves banter and just loves being around the lads. What I didn't realise before going into this podcast was the incredible journey Rugby League took him on! Some of the interesting points were..How he made his own highlights package and posted it to all the NRL clubs to get his first opportunity,How he eventually worked his way into the Warriors and some classic stories from his time with them,Why he moved to the Raiders (another crazy story that) followed by a move to the UK,His battles with concussion and mental health,Why he walked out on his contract in the UK,and how he ended up starting up Wellingtons favourite porta loo company, Porta Kings. This is without a doubt one of the funniest episodes so far. I found myself laughing away through this episode at the time and then in the edit. At the end of this episode you'll realise why everyone regards the great Charlie Gubb as one of the all time great team mates. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

This week as we digest the F175 launch and head off for pre-season testing, we speak to one of F1's top race promoters to find out what goes on behind the scenes to stage an event for almost 300,000 people. This year is Miami's fourth as an F1 host venue, part of Liberty Media's drive to expand F1 in the US market and engage new fans. Miami does things a bit differently and they do it with a sense of humour, which is in short supply in F1, which can take itself too seriously at times. So how do they juggle the conflicting demands of NFL, the FIFA World Cup, the Miami Open Tennis and F1 events in the same season? What does it take logistically to put on a Grand Prix at this scale? And what sort of tickets give the fans the best deal? James sits down with Tyler Epp, President of the Miami Grand Prix to discuss how the race has gone from "fake" marina, to fan favourite. Global Editorial Director Rebecca Clancy and Autosport F1 Business Correspondent Mark Mann-Bryans join James in the studio. They also preview the F1 testing in Bahrain. Remember to take part in the Global F1 Fan Survey, which we are running together with F1. #timetotalkaustralia Music is the eighth studio album by American singer Madonna, released on 2000 by Maverick Records. Following the success of her previous album Ray of Light (1998), she intended to embark on a tour. However, her record company encouraged her to return to the studio and record new music before going on the road. Her collaboration with producers Mirwais Ahmadzaï and William Orbit resulted a more experimental direction for the album. Music has an overall dance-pop and electronicavibe, with influnces from rock, country and folk. The album was mostly recorded at Sarm West and East Studios in London, England. Elaborating on the country theme for the album, Madonna reinvented her image as a cowgirl.
