Chama Mechtaly is a Moroccan-American artist, activist, and policy advisor whose work sits at the intersection of cultural preservation, deradicalisation, and Middle Eastern diplomacy. Born in Casablanca in 1992 to a Muslim mother and a Jewish father of Amazigh heritage, she draws on her complex identity to promote dialogue and coexistence between Muslim and Jewish communities throughout North Africa and the Gulf. She recently organised the first-ever Abraham Accords Deradicalisation Summit, where she contributed to shaping cultural frameworks for regional integration in the wake of normalisation agreements. In today's conversation, we discuss her recent Quillette essay examining Qatar's ideological reach into Western institutions, the suppression of critical voices, and the broader ambitions of Islamist movements on the global stage. Drawing from her lived experience across Morocco, the Gulf, and the United States, Chama reflects on how Islamist actors have appropriated the language of democracy to undermine liberal values from within. What emerges is a sobering analysis of the soft power networks quietly reshaping our political and cultural institutions—and the steep cost of looking the other way. We also explore how culture is weaponised, how the West has failed to confront these forces, and what a path toward genuine peace and pluralism in the Middle East might look like. A CPI é vista como canal para a oposição manter o tema segurança pública em evidência até a disputa presidencial de 2026. which included Maryam Sanda, who had spent barely six years and eight months at the Suleja Medium Security Custodial Centre after she was convicted and sentenced to death by hanging over the killing of her husband, Bilyaminu Bello in Abuja who she stabbed three times repeatedly, this, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his earlier presidential pardon granted to the 37 years old convicted and condemned murderer, Maryam Sanda, had asked her to go home free because of her children, but, following public outcry and condemnation, in the revised version of the presidential pardons signed into law on October 21, 2025 and made available to the public by the Presidency on Wednesday October 29, 2025, President Tinubu commuted the death sentence to 12 years imprisonment, although, the Presidency never mentioned the total numbers of people granted the presidential pardons, but, the list of beneficiaries made available by the Presidential Spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, indicated that only 86 persons were granted the presidential pardons, and Maryam Sanda apparently spelt as Maryam Sunda was last on the list, and the names of earlier beneficiaries like Kelvin Prosper Oniarah, were not seen in the revised edition of the list, maybe, the names were omitted due to excessive public outcry that Prosper Kelvin Oniarah was a convicted notorious high profile gang leader of a deadly kidnapping group that were widely stated to be responsible for the kidnapping and subsequent killing of a former Anambra State Deputy Governor, Chudi Nwike, kidnapping of a prominent legal practitioner, Mike Ozhekome on August 24th 2013 along Benin-Auchi road and during the kidnapping operation, the gunmen ambushed and killed four police officers including the Divisional Police Officer, DPO of Ehor Division who led the police team in an attempt to rescue Mike Ozhekome, outside that, the 44 years old Oniarah was also stated to be responsible for the kidnapping of a Judge in the Edo State Judiciary; "One notable exception, is that a lawyer enjoys less freedom than others to speak publicly about his or her own cases, but not when it involves solidarity marches and protests for his client, the conducts of lawyers and the limit of their professional duties is the kennel of the alarming accusation by the Presidency yesterday against the lawyer of Mr Nnamdi Kanu and his subsequent arrest by the police for his presence at a scene in Abuja, where protesters were marching peacefully demanding the release of Mr Kanu; Hello, friends! We have a couple of special reports focusing on current issues facing the borderlands: migration.Migration is a contentious and polarizing topic that pundits often use to score political points against their opponents, overlooking the real stories of people caught in the middle. These stories of hope and resilience remind us of the importance of seeing others as human beings — human beings with dreams and aspirations, just like anyone else.In the second part of this final installment of our special reports, we sit down with a Venezuelan exile whom we are referring to as Chama. Chama entered the United States legally in 2022, following policies set by President Joe Biden's administration.Chama is not her real name. She agreed to be interviewed on the condition that Port of Entry not reveal her identity because she lacks legal status and fears deportation from the U.S.The first chapter of Chama's migrant journey covers her odyssey out of Venezuela and her determination to reunite with her family via Tijuana. In this second part, we explore her path into the United States, her herculean effort to do it legally, and how, despite all her efforts, the system ultimately failed her.Chama became one of hundreds of thousands of migrants who lost their legal status due to an executive order by President Donald Trump. As a result, she now lives in the shadows, undocumented — illegal by decree. You won't want to miss this incredible story of persistence and resoluteness.Social media and contactFrom KPBS, “Port of Entry” tells cross-border stories that connect us. Well, that was just disrespectful. Alex Pereira went out there at UFC 320 on Saturday with absolutely no regard whatsoever for Magomed Ankalaev. Bullied him. Dropped him. Pounded him out. Then did the “look at you now” hand gesture that is rapidly becoming Pereira's touchdown dance. He clowned Ankalaev from start to finish, is what he did. Clowned him. So, now the Chama Era is back in the light heavyweight division, and the only remaining question is whether there's anything meaningful left for Pereira to do there. Another fight with Jiri Prochazka (who also got a win at 320)? Carlos Ulberg (who got a win the weekend before)? Or does Pereira start looking up the ladder at heavyweight? Jones? Aspinall? Gane? Anything seems possible. Plus, Cory Sandhagen was game as hell. He was well prepared. He was well coached. He just couldn't stop Merab Dvalishvili. Learn more about your ad choices.

Hello, friends! We have a couple of special reports focusing on current issues facing the borderlands: migration.Migration is a contentious and polarizing topic that pundits often use to score political points against their opponents, often overlooking the real stories of people caught in the middle of this deeply entrenched debate. These stories of hope and resilience remind us of the importance of seeing others as human beings. Human beings with dreams and aspirations are just like anyone else.In this second and final installment of our special report series, we sit down with a Venezuelan exile whom we are referring to as Chama. Chama entered the U.S. legally in 2022, following policies set by President Joe Biden's administration. No, Chama is not her real name. She agreed to be interviewed on the condition that Port of Entry does not reveal her identity, as she lacks legal status and fears deportation from the U.S.Fast forward to 2025, Chama became one of hundreds of thousands of migrants who lost their legal status due to an executive order by President Donald Trump. As a result, she now lives in the shadows, undocumented.Today's episode delves into the first chapter of Chama's migrant journey—her odyssey out of Venezuela and her determination to reunite with her family via Tijuana.Part 2 will explore her path into the United States, the herculean effort to do it the legal way, and how, despite all her efforts, the system ultimately failed her.You won't want to miss this incredible story of perseverance.Sources:Reports on Child Traffickinghttps://www.bbc.com/mundo/noticias-america-latina-47700771https://www.dol.gov/sites/dolgov/files/ILAB/child_labor_reports/tda2017/Venezuela.pdfhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_trafficking_in_VenezuelaReports on crackdown on opposition:https://www.hrw.org/report/2017/11/29/crackdown-dissent/brutality-torture-and-political-persecution-venezuelahttps://www.ohchr.org/en/stories/2017/08/report-protestors-venezuela-subjected-human-rights-violations-and-abuseshttps://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2024/11/venezuela-tortura-abusos-contra-ninos-ninas/Social media and contactFrom KPBS, “Port of Entry” tells cross-border stories that connect us. – A gdy szlachcie się spodobał ten mit, to zaczęła go zawłaszczać – opowiada dr Joanna Orzeł, historyczka z Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego i autorka książki „My, Sarmaci. Mity i rzeczywistość szlachty Rzeczypospolitej”. Potwierdzenie swojej wyjątkowości i nadrzędności nad chłopstwem szlachcice znaleźli… w Biblii. | prof.
