In general terms, I believe Christian nationalism is bad history, bad politics, and bad religion. In prior episodes, I have concentrated on the bad history. In this segment and the next, I focus mainly on the bad politics. Around the world, religious nationalism is associated with state sponsored violence against citizens, use of force to take political control, erosion of the separation of church and state, degrading of democratic principles and attacks on minority rights. I believe Christian nationalism is also bad for Christianity which I will examine in the next episode.Note: I did not mention that long time Fellowship leader Doug Coe passed away in 2017. I believe that explains some of the shifting within the Fellowship. Having said that, there always was an element within that group which didn't make a strong commitment to human rights. Resources mentioned:The Undertow: Scenes from a Slow Civil War by Jeff Sharlet. The Family, Netflix documentary, by Jeff Sharlet. Charismatic Revival Fury, podcast by Matthew Taylor, produced by Brad OnishiExpert guests this segment: Dartmouth College historian and author Randall Balmer, Communications director at Americans United for the Separation of Church and State Rob Boston,  Louisville pastor and social worker Joel Bowman, Mount St Mary's University philosophy instructor Scott Coley, Grove City College social work associate professor Jennifer Hollenberger, historian Troy Jackson, journalist Jonathan Larsen, author and journalist Katherine Stewart, religion scholar with the Institute for Islamic, Christian and Jewish Studies Matthew Taylor, and historian and author Jemar Tisby.  SHOW NOTES:Telling Jefferson Lies is written, produced, and hosted by Warren Throckmorton. When a radical-Muslim mob of 6000 attacked the Christian colony of Jaranwala in August, Christians could only flee. Some hid in sugarcane fields; others fled the area. The attack lasted the whole day; churches were destroyed and persecuted Christians' homes were looted and burned. Brother Johanna joins us this week on VOM Radio to share what led to the uproar in Jaranwala, and the response from other Christians in Pakistan to brothers and sisters affected by the violence. We will also look more broadly at the persecution of Pakistani Christians. Listen as Johanna explains what the blasphemy laws in Pakistan are and how they are used against Christians—and against Muslims and members of other faiths, too. He will also unpack how the challenges are different for Christians in Pakistan depending whether they were born into a Muslim family or born into a traditional Christian family. Brother Johanna will also give us an update on Asia Bibi, who still faces pressure and death threats even years after being found innocent of blasphemy by Pakistan's Supreme Court and released from prison.

This week is Veteran's day, and we want to thank Jason… unfortunately, he didn't show. But more importantly: how to talk to people about abortion--especially those with whom we disagree. How do we keep it from becoming a fight? When do we walk away? When is it better to plant a seed and let it grow? In current events, we discuss Pope Francis's threat to abdicate the Andorran co-monarch if they legalize abortion. And, of course, the election results: how bad was it? Also, Asia Bibi's freedom. And finally: why was Obama such a wuss?VIEW ON APPLE PODCASTS VIEW ON GOOGLE PODCASTS VIEW ON AMAZON VIEW ON AUDIBLE VIEW ON CASTBOX VIEW ON PODCASTADDICT VIEW ON STITCHER VIEW ON BITCHUTE VIEW ON RUMBLE VIEW ON TUNE-IN VISIT US ON FACEBOOK

A daily news briefing from Catholic News Agency, powered by artificial intelligence. Ask your smart speaker to play “Catholic News,” or listen every morning wherever you get podcasts. www.catholicnewsagency.com - Los Angeles Archbishop José Gomez on Sunday offered prayers for victims of a Saturday shooting at a Monterey Park, California, ballroom dance studio. “We pray for those killed and injured in this shooting, we ask that God stay close to their families and loved ones,” the archbishop said in a statement released Sunday. “We pray for the wounded to be healed, and we ask that God give strength and guidance to the doctors and nurses who are caring for them.” Ten people were killed and at least 10 more were wounded after a gunman opened fire late Saturday night at Star Ballroom Dance Studio in Monterey Park. Twenty minutes after the shooting, the 72-year-old suspect entered another nearby dance studio but was disarmed by two community members, the Los Angeles Times reported. The suspect then fled in a white cargo van. The shooting, one of the worst in Los Angeles County history, took place in the midst of a two-day Lunar New Year festival that attracted tens of thousands of participants to what is considered a core of the Southern California Chinese community, according to the Times. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/253430/los-angeles-archbishop-prays-for-peace-in-our-hearts-after-shooting-at-dance-studio The parliament of Pakistan moved this week to tighten its already far-reaching blasphemy laws, under which numerous Christians and other minorities have been prosecuted and subjected to mob violence, often for dubious charges of blasphemy against beliefs or figures associated with Islam. Insulting the Prophet Muhammad is already, at least on paper, a capital offense in Pakistan. Under the newest legal changes, those convicted of insulting the Prophet Muhammad's wives, companions, or close relatives will now face 10 years in prison, a sentence that can be extended to life, along with a fine of 1 million rupees, or roughly $4,500, reported the New York Times. It also makes the charge of blasphemy an offense for which bail is not possible. Islam is the state religion of Pakistan, and blasphemy laws have been on the books in the country for more than a century, even before it became an independent nation. A notable escalation of the country's blasphemy laws occurred in 1987 when the death sentence was made mandatory for some violations. One of the most famous cases in recent years was that of Asia Bibi, a Catholic woman who spent nearly a decade on death row after being accused of disparaging Islam. Numerous world leaders called for her immediate release, including Popes Benedict XVI and Francis. In October 2018, the Pakistani Supreme Court overturned her blasphemy conviction. She subsequently fled the country and reportedly still receives death threats. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/253436/pakistan-tightens-its-already-far-reaching-blasphemy-laws Today, the Church celebrates Saint Francis de Sales, the patron saint of writers and Christian unity whose role as a priest and bishop helped bring thousands of Protestants back to the Catholic Church. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/saint/st-francis-de-sales-126

I've seen the future, brother. It is murder.

The Roy Green Show Podcast - Conservative MP Erin O'Toole, along with Jason Kenney and Peter MacKay, was one of the three former Harper government cabinet ministers who spoke with Marie Henein, lead lawyer for Admiral Mark Norman. Did the information they provided cause the prosecution to stay the charge against the Admiral? The RCMP failed to interview the former federal ministers, although Peter MacKay told us yesterday the RCMP did speak with him about a very narrow focus. Roy starts off the podcast with MP O'Toole, to get his perspective on what happened. Later, Scott Newark – former Alberta prosecutor and senior policy advisor to a federal Minister for Public Safety, now a professor at Simon Fraser University – gives his view on staying of criminal charge against Admiral Mark Norman. Roy also gets Scott's take on the case of Jack Letts, dubbed “Jihadi Jack” by members of the U.K. press, and Stewart Bell's report for Global News that shows the Canadian government looked at possible options for bringing back ISIS members. What are the pros and cons of electric vehicles? BC Green Party leader, Andrew Weaver, told the Lynda Steele Show on CKNW that BC drivers  anxious about the price of gasoline should consider an equity loan on their homes to purchase an electric vehicle. Roy brings in three experts on electric vehicles to get their views on the future of the electric car in Canada. Asia Bibi is a Christian Pakistani woman who was sentenced to death for blasphemy. The Pakistan Supreme Court overturned the sentence but Bibi was still in danger as public demonstrations by hardline Islamists demanding her death took place in Pakistan. Now Asia Bibi and her family have been permitted to enter and live in Canada where they are under federal government protection.  - Guests: Erin O'Toole, Conservative Party of Canada MP and former Veterans Affairs Minister Guest: Scott Newark. For February 3, 2019.... Eye on Islam... Asia Bibi, recently acquitted on charges of that fictitious crime blasphemy, is likely headed to Canada. Let's see... Canada's middle finger extended to the Barbaric State of Saudi Arabia - check. Canada's middle finger extended to Pakistan - check. Who's next? February 1st is World Hijab Day. Screw that. When these women take off their hijabs in support of their sisters in the Middle East or in families living in the western world whose values are stuck in the 7th century, I might have some modicum of respect. But I will never - NEVER! - allow the normalization of an instrument of misogyny, religion be damned! A petition to Nike to recall their Air Max shoes has been started at Change.org. The reason? The logo on the sole when viewed upside down looks like the word "Allah". I"m not kidding. Nike has a recent history of moralizing, unless it hurts their bottom line. And of course, CAIR is involved. The Regressive Left Files Counter Terrorism Policing UK wants citizens to call police if you see anyone at a hardware store buying knives or hammers while sinister music is playing. The Twitterverse responds negatively. Who would have seen that coming? The two Laurier "professors" at the center of the Lindsay Shepherd scandal, Nathan Rambukkana and Herbert Pimlott, are suing Shepherd over their unsolicited slanderous comments comparing Jordan Peterson to Hitler. Seriously. They're blaming her for Peterson's lawsuit for the comments they made of their own volition because it was her act of recording the inquisition they formed that drew Peterson's attention to them. Catholic Watch The Vatican official handling cases of sexual abuse has resigned after allegations leveled against him surface for - wait for it! - sexual abuse. And finally a good news story in Catholic Watch. Governor Andrew Cuomo, himself a practicing Catholic, signed into law a pro-choice bill, causing bishops in Tennessee and Texas (who couldn't have voted for him anyway) to call for his excommunication. Cuomo dared to suggest that his religious views are separate from is gubernatorial duties. What a concept! American Theocracy Today... John Stonetsreet and Warren Cole Smith discuss a radical abortion bill introduced in Virginia–on the heels of New York's insanely cruel abortion law. They also discuss Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam's ridiculous claim that his comments in response to the bill were taken out of context. His words, as John and Warren note, speak for themselves.  Unlimited access to abortion–even up to and perhaps including infanticide–is what the pro-abortion movement has wanted all along. They also talk about the good news that Pakistan's supreme court has cleared the way for Asia Bibi, the Christian woman who faced execution for trumped-up blasphemy charges–may now leave the country. In light of that, John and Ed urge the Trump Administration to take in more Christian refugees–brothers and sisters of ours who are in true danger because of their faith. Townhall Review | Conservative Commentary On Today's News

The most profound action related to immigration President Trump can take at present has nothing to do with walls, troops or 9th Circuit pronouncements. It’s to extend religious asylum to a Pakistani woman named Asia Bibi and her family. You may have heard her story: Bibi survived eight years in a Pakistani gulag with the prospect of execution hanging over her head like the Sword of Damocles each day. Her crime: being a Christian. The Pakistani Supreme Court acquitted her, and declared her innocent. Since being released, she and her family are under constant threat of assassination by the Islamofascists who’ve overrun Pakistan. In a shameful episode of cowardice, self-declared pluralists in the West have turned a deaf ear to Bibi. The administration should provide a tutorial for Trump-haters and the DC press corps on the difference between economic migrants and asylum-seekers. We should provide her—and her family—asylum immediately. Mr. President, save Asia Bibi.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
