Have you ever wondered why some of us get stuck, as in really stuck?Did you know that sometimes we are held back from living our best selves, the person we were made to be, by our past hurts and traumatic experiences?Back in the spring, our Heart of the Father team had the opportunity to attend a workshop on trauma informed care in ministry, hosted by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia's Office of the New Evangelization. This two day workshop was led by the brilliant professional counselor and trauma therapist Margaret Vasquez, who shared her insight and depth of understanding on this complex subject in a way that was both accessible and hopeful. We know you'll be blessed by this conversation where Margaret beautifully explains the shaping influences of our past experiences, her own transformative journey, and her passion for human and spiritual integration.“There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear." 1 John 4:18 Find Margaret's books and other resources:Human & Spiritual Integration Self-InventoryMore Than Words: The Freedom to Thrive After TraumaFearless: Life Through Infinite LoveWholeness and Holiness podcastSacred Heart MinistriesCheck out Margaret's online workshop on Human & Spiritual Integration Nov 6-9. I ran across the concept of Feminine Exhibit Design when doing some post-conference research - and it perked my ears right up! What is feminine exhibit design? And, why is it important? Margaret Middleton has been focusing on these questions for several years now, and spent a little time with me to discuss. Margaret is a thought leader in the inclusive design space, designer of playful, enriching learning experiences, and speaker and consultant advocating for inclusive museum practices. In this week's episode, Margaret shares their thoughts on why Feminine Design principles are a critical aspect for inclusive design and how and when to use them. We discuss how acknowledging and resisting an andro-centric perspective is important in design work, and how difficult that can be considering the complexities of femininity. We also discuss what fem-phobia is and how it may present itself in our design work. Margaret tells us how and when a focus on feminine design emerged from their work and how their thought exercise on this topic has developed since then - including how Cute came to be the 7th element in the emergent Feminine Exhibition Design structure. Margaret was born and raised in Aotearoa New Zealand. She has lived there, in various corners of the country, apart from ten years in the UK. Her interests and areas of work have shifted over the decades, but a strong underlying theme is always a passion for the growth or evolution of people of any age. This includes people who are dying. Margaret has a deep interest in death and dying, especially in opening people to the gifts in dying, gifts which she feels are often not experienced in Western society because of a cultural resistance to death, even so-called ‘timely' death. Margaret has three adult children and four precious young grandsons who bring her much joy. Tears & Tulle Talk Season 2, Podcast Episode 007! This week's podcast features Tears & Tulle Trailblazer participant, Margaret Harding! In Margaret's Words... In March as the pandemic was ramping up I was in Oklahoma and received news that my job was closing, the next leg of my trip was cancelled (I was headed to Idaho to volunteer at a special needs pageant), how I was getting home was unsure as the shuttle service I used from the airport stopped running, and there was threat of airports shutting down. Needless to say I was super stressed. My sister looked at me and said “go sweat so you can calm down”. We were at a hotel for a an event and she knew that sweating calmed me down, that's when I decided to do my pictures in the hotel's fitness center. Over the years I've learned that being able to workout is one of the best ways for me to handle the stress of life. I am a survivor of incest, sexual abuse, mental abuse, I live with depression and have a mild case of ptsd; with all of this I can have a hard time seeing through the fog of life. Three things have kept me sane and grounded; Faith - my faith in Jesus Christ my savior. Volunteering - being able to refocus my negative energy in a positive way. Exercise - being able to physically release my negative energy.
