Appointment Television and Ars Technica's Andrew Cunningham returns to talk about the return of Frasier, and whether it was necessary. Should the creators have taken a hint from the universe (and David Hyde Pierce)? Could the re-imagining of the beloved original have worked with a few conceptual tweaks? Would we advise you to watch it, or take Eddie for a walk instead? Later, we went Around The Dial with Shining Vale's second season, Home Movies, AHS: Roanoke, and updates on Devil's Plan and House Of Usher, then pinned on our corsages for a Canon entry on a super-size episode of The Venture Bros.. JFK won, walkers lost, and points for trying was more than a metaphor in a b-b-b-b-brilliant Game Time. We'll meet you at the copyright-compliant local tavern for an all-new Extra Hot Great! GUESTS
Reservation Dogs is back on FX/Hulu this week, and Variety's Alison Herman is back on EHG to talk about the show's final season: realistic teenage-character arcs, spiritual cousins to Atlanta, and the meanings of "home." We went Around The Dial with This Fool, Minx's second season, and Hunted, aka "the darkest Amazing Race" (which we completely forgot we covered the American version of in a long-ago episode) before Tara took the solo on a Girls5Eva Canon pitch. The Glovers' future won, the former Arrow lost, and we set our minds to siblings of the small screen in Game Time. The bus is leaving, so charge up your phone for an all-new Extra Hot Great. GUESTS
Today we reminisced about the days when we had to make time for appointment television and how it made those experiences more special. We talked about how we miss those moments and how it felt like we were living more in the moment. It's a reminder that sometimes, it's good to disconnect from technology and enjoy the moment. Also, Flash mobs are still cool: We chat about a recent flash mob that Kelly Clarkson organized, and we were blown away by the amazing six-part harmonies and choir sound. It was a reminder that even in this digital age, there's still something special about gathering people together in person to create something beautiful. And HEY! Check out our other podcast: 10K Dollar Day, it's a longer format show where we use our imaginations to spend $10,000 in 24 hours somewhere. It's a fun and imaginative show that we think you'll enjoy.Read more:https://www.today.com/popculture/music/kelly-clarkson-flash-mob-performance-coffee-shop-rcna88859https://www.delnext.com/blog/en/most-famous-flash-mobs/Support the show FOLLOW US: Facebook Instagram Youtube Twitter Pinterest Apple Podcasts Google Podcasts Spotify Stitcher Send us your stories & support the show:https://www.buymeacoffee.com/thedailyhappy

Dr. Orna Guralnik has returned to Showtime to work with a whole new crop of troubled partners in a new season of Couples Therapy, and Vulture's Kathryn VanArendonk -- one of the show's biggest boosters -- has returned to our podcast to yell about it! (Positively!) Around The Dial takes us through Younger, a new Mythic Quest special, PBS's Philly D.A., Why Did You Kill Me?, Sasquatch, and the midseason premiere of 9-1-1: Lone Star. Mlle. Caroline uses her Extra Credit topic to ask us about the 20-year-old (or older) shows we still like, and those we don't. Then after naming the week's Winner and Loser, it's on to a Game Time that challenges our knowledge of both anime and bullshit. Put on your artiest geometric necklace, put the dog in its bed, and join us! GUESTS

Appointment Television's Margaret H. Willison put a marshmallow on a stick to talk about Hulu's Little Fires Everywhere, and whether THIS is the real "vanity-free performance" on Reese Witherspoon's recent résumé, plus Kerry Washington's interesting choices as Mia; the production's unwavering commitment to 1997-ness; and whether the male Dawson's Creek lead we'd have bought in the Bill role is actually Dawson himself. Tara refused to be labeled a crackpot for thinking Mike Schur's upcoming philosoph...omedy? book is going to join its "humorous"-essay brethren in sucking, and then we went Around The Dial with Black Monday, The Bachelor, Work In Progress, Please Like Me, an Evil Lunch Bunch concept, Project Runway, and an Amazing Stories update. Margaret couldn't help but wonder if a second-season Sex & The City would make it into the Canon, and after Laura Benanti was a winner and most TV productions were quarantined losers, the Game Time question was Quibi Or Not Quibi?. This all-new Extra Hot Great's got dial-up; listen now! GUESTS
This week’s episode is our recent live show crossover event with Appointment Television at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. The Appointment Television and Overdue crews gather together to discuss the recent TV adaptation and compare it to the book from which it (and the film, and the ill-starred musical) sprung. Whether we figure out the relative superiority of books or TV as competing artistic formats is left up to the listener.

It's back to the table for a little chat about the television shows that we couldn't miss when we were kids. Some made us run home from school, while others gave us a reason to get up on a Saturday morning. It's obvious though, no matter what category they fall into, they helped shape our Abby Normal psyches we have today.
In a rare Andrew-less episode of Appointment Television, Kate Racculia returns to talk with us about the revival season of Veronica Mars. Guess what! We have some critiques! At some point this also involves discussing Lodge 49 and reading character descriptions from the new HBO Joss Whedon show The Nevers, but really it's mostly about Veronica Mars. Be warned: we will spoil what happens at the end of this season!

And don't worry, Craig and Margaret had plenty of wisdom to share as well.Caveat lictor: Margaret's here, so there's swearing.

Here at Appointment Television, we want you to ring in the new year the best way we know how: by making sure you've turned off motion smoothing on your and every other television you have access to. Accordingly, Andrew does a deep dive into what exactly motion smoothing is, and we all talk about how unexpected it was to find Tom Cruise as our guide to this question. Then it's time for a festive holiday book club: Killing Eve!! We talk about the first two episodes this week, and spoiler, we really like them.
In this episode of the podcast that has definitely always been called Rick Grimes and His Funky Fresh Appointment Television, Jay and Austin talk about The Walking Dead and its weird decisions, the death of appointment television, what shared culture and traditions might be worth, a world where subcultures rule, youth pastor conversation starters, Cixin Liu, science fiction, and more. There are equal parts goofs and serious discussions in this go-around.
Podcasts are a great medium for any subject that you can think of. They are popular and there are always new ones popping up. With so many being made it can be difficult to find great podcasts. Here are a few indie podcasts that need to be shared and listened to. Overdue was the first podcast I ever listened to and therefore holds a special place for me. But make no mistake that these hosts are working to make a quality podcast that anyone can listen to. The premise of the show is that one of the hosts reads a book that they have not read before, then they discuss the book. The hosts are two college friends who have a great repour. You want to sit in on the conversation with them. It is a great way to learn about books you might not have heard of or considered on your own. Rants and reason is a podcast that we need right now. There is so much political division in this country that trying to find common ground can be difficult. However, that is exactly what this show aims to do. The two hosts, one conservative and the other liberal, discuss several aspects of politics. The hosts are friends who try to show you can have a civil conversation even if you do not agree with one another. This show should be spread far and wide in an attempt to help heal some of the wounds brought on by the last few years. That’s Delightful is another political podcast but they have a liberal lean. They discuss current events with their own commentary. The hosts are a doctor, a social worker, and a radio host. They are hilarious to listen to and always bring a laugh. It has quickly become one of my favorite podcasts. Deadball is a podcast that looks at the lives of players that were lost early due to misfortune. You do not need to be a fan of baseball to enjoy these life stories. They are glimpses into, most times, tragic lives that started with so much promise and ended horribly. The hosts are knowledgeable and are excellent storytellers. Death’s Door podcast is a true crime show that looks specifically at death penalty cases. I am fortunate enough to have listened to the show since its launch. The original host is a lawyer who takes the time to explain aspects of these cases that are generally not common knowledge. The show has recently added a second host and changed up their format. Grown Up Kids is a new to me podcast. This wife team is systematically watching every Disney movie that has been made. This podcast is can open you up to movies that you have not heard of or have not seen. They give you an overview of the movie, usually with a guest host, and pick their favorite parts and characters. It is a nice format with a great deal of information. Appointment Television has one of the hosts of Overdue, which is how I discovered it. They give you all the news on television and have segments covering different types of television. One of the best segments they do is tv book club. They pick a season of a show and you can watch it with them. It is a great way for them to get involved with their audience and to have their audience engage as well. They Walk Among Us is another favorite of mine. This is a true crime podcast from England. The husband and wife team that produces this show are fantastic. The episodes are well researched and written. They give you good amounts of information without overwhelming you. They have been at this for about two years so they have a great backlog to listen to. Sense & Theory podcast was recently recommended to me and I think it is another that is needed in our political climate. The two hosts are friends, one raised liberal while the other was raised conservative. From what I can gather they are center with right and left leanings. They have intelligent and informative conversations on current politics. They also offer the history behind the politics of the US. All of these shows being something to the table that is worth listening to. They are hardworking hosts that put time and e...
Sometimes we're in a Chick-Fil-A in Nashua and we're like.....what's something we can talk about that we already do? So, we present to you our post-sweeps clipshow equivilant. First, we're talking about our favorite podcasts and SPOILER ALERT, we spend 25% of the segment just professing our love for Appointment Television (our OTP, One True Podcast and yeah guys, we did the math to the minute). We reassert our status as the Fourth Olsen Twin, Kirstie drops her superball, we learn about Kelsey's commuting habits and it's just a giant love fest. Then, we revisit last week's discussion about Formative Media with the media of our adolescent years. We've got tons of personal stories, a brief moment of excitement about Rocket Power, and many of the roots of our nerdery at any age.

In episode two of Appointment Television, we tackle the art of the TV rewatch. Why do we do it? What do we watch? How do we feel about these shows and these characters the second or third time around? In the second half of the episode we call the first meeting of the TV Book Club - this week, we talk about the pilot of Terriers, a one-season wonder from FX. It's got a bad name, but it's a diamond in the rough among buddy cop shows. We'll be watching episodes two through four for our next show, so you definitely have time to catch up!
Welcome, friends, to Appointment Television! The first subject we tackle in this, our inaugural episode, are the mechanics of “behind-the-scenes” TV shows. These are the shows that attempt to show you the way something works—maybe it’s a radio station! Maybe it’s the White House! Maybe it’s a sketch comedy series! In any case, these shows use their real-world settings to drive stories that may or may not become increasingly detached from those same settings. Our second segment this week is a little something we like to call “TV vs. TV.” These are debates where two of your hosts present an argument to the third host, who then uses her or his infinite wisdom to determine a winner. This week, Andrew and Kathryn let Margaret settle that age-old question: which Star Trek series is best, The Next Generation or Deep Space Nine?
