Tune in to find out and be sure to check out the companion video episode where Laurel demonstrates a variety of warmups, exercises, and therapies designed to target pain and tension in the arms and hands which she and her students have found helpful. By the time we've reached midlife, we've all failed at something or other. Some failures were small, others monumental. They all have one thing in common though, and its that we learn from them. Many great inventors, artists, and philosophers have spoke about what it means to fail. They all basically explain that without failure there are no true success. Because without failing there is nothing to gauge success by.In this episode, I dive deep into why we shouldn't be afraid to fail. We cannot allow the fear of failure to hold us back from making the changes in life that we want, or need to make. It's the most freeing feeling to be over 50! What once unhinged me, I no longer feel a prisoner to. Knowing yourself and honoring ALL the parts of you is the best way to live a wholehearted life.In this first episode of Season 2, for Beautiful Second Act, I talk all about how I had a breakdown in my early 30's, trying to be and do all the things I thought a wife and mother were supposed to do. Being on the other side of that time in life, I have such perspective now, and realize we waste so much of our time in life trying to be something for all the wrong reasons.Join me by listening to Beautiful Second Act, and share with your friends how we can celebrate life, take better care of ourselves, and learn to love living out loud, this glorious and wonderful second half. I talked of a movie recommendation called Calendar Girls. Click the link for more info. It's a fantastic film celebrating life, loving, and community. By the way, it's also hilarious. If you are interested in buying a copy of my book, AFTER THE FIRE, click the link and if you have time, please leave a review on either Amazon, or Goodreads. Have you felt it? A shift? In this two part episode that wraps up Beautiful Second Act Season 1, you will hear about how I have felt the need to make great changes in my life to follow my original childhood dreams. We cannot live an authentic life if we are lying to ourselves about what we want. If we settle for what is subpar, and don't do the things that light us up, we will die inside. Not living your life's purpose can make you both mentally, and physically ill. Instead, embrace your dreams and find a way to live out the life you were meant to live. It's all about listening. Pay attention to the signs that The Universe keeps sending you. Do not dismiss them. For they are everywhere trying to guide you to what is meant for you. It is in this shift, that you will start to feel yourself walking back to the person you were meant to be, instead of being who you thought everyone else wanted you to be.Here are some links to some websites I spoke of, as well as an Amazon link to buy my book:meetwillowstar.com for finding out more on Willow Star's cancer journey. Here first interview episode with Beautiful Second Act is here:How Cancer Came To Save Mepattidienerwrites.com for my website on how I wrote my book, AFTER THE FIRE. Weighing yourself daily and obsessing is so much bullshit. I know, I did it for years. I use to put so much pressure on myself for exercise. I had to look a certain way. I tried all the programs that were popular at the time. I felt shame if I weighed over a certain amount and then would starve myself to fit into a particular size. As I've grown older, I have learned to be more kind to myself. I don't try to kill myself anymore with hours of aerobics classes, video tapes, starvation or radical diets. I have given myself grace to simply be healthy. I eat well but if I have a piece of cake I don't beat myself up for days like the past. I love life!In this episode, I talk about how I don't want to allow myself to become super fat or obese, but I don't take as much self loathing into the shower every day like I did in my younger years. I have flaws and I embrace them. I am in no way sporting a perfect body, but I also don't believe such a thing exists. When we love ourselves exactly as we are and appreciate our bodies for what they do for us every day, life becomes more enjoyable. Thank you for listening. Finding time to do what you love can sometimes be a difficult task. Raising a family is a full time job, but for artist Remy McCosker, things were a bit more challenging. Being the mother of two, and one child with Autism, it added a lot more to her plate than the average mom.Over the years, Remy spent countless hours volunteering in her community. She loved being a part of the school, and also helped with local fundraising in the fire department. But all that was for others. She didn't make the time to create art just for herself, until her youngest was 17 years old.Years later now, Remy is taking her art seriously. She's doing what she loves and creating a side business with ART BY REMY. She says it's never too late to begin doing what you love, and her creations are simply brilliant. Art is not just for the professionals. In creating, you can live in the moment. Dream for more. Be you authentic self, and don't pay attention to critics. Let the joy of art lift your spirits. You can begin by watching a youtube video, take a course at your community college, or just experiment. You can find Remy on Facebook at Art By Remy and you can go to Instagram and find her by the same name. There is something we all have in common and that is, we all want to be understood. We all want to be heard, seen, and loved. But we cannot expect everyone to be able to meet us where we are at. Our spiritual journey is our own. Not everyone evolves spiritually at the same rate. There might be some members of your own family, maybe even your spouse, that don't understand you at times and leaves you feeling frustrated. What we must remember, is to love them anyway and know that they too are on their own spiritual journey, and maybe they aren't on the same ascension level as you. This episode I talk about how there will always be those who have ascended higher than us, and are still at a lower level, but that doesn't mean that they are beneath, or better than you. They are just on their own timeline for learning in this lifetime. You wouldn't think that healing our health and forgiveness have anything in common, but it is quite fascinating to me how human beings often have the same reaction to both.Inevitablly, change comes once we do either. If we heal from a long struggle with our health, or we find a way to forgive a long going grudge or tragic situation, our lives are changed and put us on a different path. This can be scary for a lot of people, especially if they have been unknowingly so attached to their feelings dealing with either. We often don't realize that in struggling with poor health, or hanging onto grudges, that our identity as a victim is all we know. People can often feel lost once they've been cured, or find forgiveness for whatever situation plagued them. It can be difficult to trust the new feelings of peace, joy, ease, or grace. In this episode I talk all about how I discovered this phenomenon. How listening to others and paying attention to friends and my own past, brought this strange similarity to light. To follow Willow Star, and her journey to helping people heal from cancer, go to: meetwillowstar.com and read all about her and how cancer came to save her life.If you want me to help you with your company's writing needs, take a look at my portfolio on Writers Work. Today's episode is about how you can eliminate stress and be much more productive when you declutter your home work space. Not only that, but if you declutter your house, you will have a much more relaxed feeling upon walking through your front door after a long day. In midlife, we've accumulted quite a bit of stuff. Much of it we don't even use. My ideas aren't new, but I felt the need to share out with you how just going through one room a week to declutter, can bring you a great sense of peace. There are many ways to listen to what the Universe is trying to say. Sometimes it is a small whisper. Sometimes we feel it in our gut, which is basically intuition. Other times you might consider it a coincidence. The Universe will always speak to you in a language that you can understand. The question is, are you listening? In this episode, I share some of the ways I've experienced the Universe responding to me and sending me messages. From the time I was seven years old, I knew there was a Higher Power. A clear message was sent to me and I then understood that I wasn't alone. From then on, I've tried to pay attention to when the Universe is communicating with me. It's not always easy, but it's a practice. There are many ways to get answers from the Universe. Take a listen to this episode, and find out some of the avenues that have worked for me, as well as some of the guidance I get from spiritual teachers. If you want me to help you with your writing needs for your business, take a look at my page in Writers Work. Nobody ever said forgiveness was easy. In fact, it can be a hard pill to swallow when you aren't ready. But as you get better about forgiveness, it can actually come easier. It's a practice, and necessary to free yourself from the burdens of the past. Not only do we need to forgive those that have wronged us, but we need to forgive ourselves. We are the ones that create the most anguish to our lives with our thoughts. We have thoughts we need to forgive, ( such as self loathing), and we often tell ourselves stories that aren't true or kind. Forgiveness of thoughts, or situations allows us to move forward. In this episode, I share all the different modalities of forgiveness that I've experienced. The freeing of forgiveness is liberating. Once you realize the weight that lifts with the act of acceptance of the past for what it is, then you will be released to live your life fully. For more of these types of conversations, join our Facebook Group at Beautiful Second Act. Do you make time for the things that excite you? The things that you truly enjoy and delight you? It's always important to incorporate fun in our lives, even in the day-to-day.What was it that as a child you remember doing that really made you happy? Do you remember doing things that brought you joy? As adults we do what is expected of us and it often leaves us feeling drained and uninspired. But in midlife and beyond, it's time to reconnect with the things we set aside while raising our families. It's overdue that we make space for the things that light us up inside, and make us feel whole again. In this episode, I list a load of hobby or small business ideas for you to consider. Things that you can do to start out as a hobby, maybe roll into a side-hussle, and possibly into a full time job if you wanted. From the intro, I spoke about me helping you with your business writing issues. Sometimes you know your foverver home when you are just seven years old. J. Lynn Bailey fell in love with Fortuna, California at first sight. When I heard a friend tell me that it was not my husband's job to make me happy, I didn't quite know how to take that. After all, weren't we required to make each other happy for the rest of our lives? Actually... no. That was not the assignment. In fact your happiness isn't the job of ANYONE but you. It is not for your children, your job, your friends, and yes, not even your spouse, to make you happy. It's not their responsibility. And when you look deep within yourself and start asking the tough questions, you will see that only you can fill that void that is deep within yourself. For in that void is the ache you have to connect with your truth. Only you have the key to what it is that fills you up inside. In this episode, I tell the stories of my being stuck and feeling shame, and tremedous guilt for wanting more out of life. How self love, truth telling, and closing the door to trying to be the perfect wife and mother, helped and healed me. You can follow me on Instagram at Beautiful_Second_Act. You can also join our Facebook Group called, Beautiful Second Act. There, we have a community of people living in midlife or beyond, that embrace joy, gratitude, and strive to live their highest truth unapologetically. At the age of 40, Jennifer Lynn Alvarez, made a decision to become a published author and write every single day no matter what, for a year. That decision would earn her a book deal and since that day she's written and published several books, all because of determination.Even if you aren't a fully empty nester yet, you can still etch out time for yourself that is non-negotiable. Because Jennifer created, "office hours," from her home office, she was able to treat her time writing as a business and became a successful author. In this interview, we talk about perfecting your craft and working at whatever it is that you want to do so you will improve.
