The guys were joined by special guest Freddie Johnson at an event hosted by the Bourbon Podcast to raise money for bulletproof vests for police K-9's. Here's some background on Freddie Johnson and what he means in the world of bourbon: Freddie Johnson is a third generation employee at Buffalo Trace Distillery and serves as its Distillery VIP Visitor Lead. Born in Paris, KY (Bourbon County), he spent some of his early childhood summers in the mountains of Breathitt County with his maternal grandfather who was a coal miner and friend to the moonshiners. The family moved to Frankfort, KY when he was five. Freddie enjoyed hunting, fishing and hanging out with his paternal grandfather, Jimmy Johnson Sr., and father, Jimmy Johnson Jr., at what is now known as Buffalo Trace Distillery. Freddie was in the middle of a successful career as a network/operations engineer in Atlanta, GA when he put all of it aside to fulfill a promise made to his father, Jimmy, more than 20 years earlier. He had promised his father that he would work at the Distillery during his lifetime so they could say they had three generations of the Johnson family that worked at Buffalo Trace. Freddie took early retirement and moved back to care for his father and brother. Jimmy got him a job as a tour guide at the Distillery in 2002 but Freddie has been in and around the Distillery since he was five years old. Freddie weaves together his childhood memories with the Distillery's rich history as his entertains thousands each year in various tours around Buffalo Trace. One of the Distillery's most popular and highly sought after tour guides, Freddie is the recipient of the 2015 ROSE (Recognition of Service Excellence) Award, the 2017 Lexington (Ky) Hospitality Award and was inducted into the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame in 2018.

. . con estribillo vocal". Con José Manuel Corrales.
This week on The Whiskey Trip Podcast, Big Chief traveled to Frankfort, Ky, for Bourbon on the Banks where he celebrated his 50th birthday. He had the opportunity to record a live show at the Kentucky History Museum with eight of his friends from around the Bourbon community. He started with Kelly Tennile and Brian Haara discussing Brian's book “Bourbon Justice” and whiskey on the reality TV show Moonshiners. He then invited Master Distillers, Lisa Wicker and Denny Potter, to talk about their new adventures and the rise of American Single malt. For the second half he started with Walter Zausch, from Whiskey Thief Distilling, and April Weller Cantrel, from Leiper's Fork Distillery, to discuss Craft Distilling on the American Landscape. Big Chief finishes the show with two legends of the whiskey industry, Andrea Wilson from Michter's Distillery, and Freddie Johnson, from Buffalo Trace Distillery. They discuss Bourbon tourism and the great experience of the Bourbon Trail. Freddie ends the show with a toast to Big Chief and to turning 50. All the guests sip on a single barrel Bourbon from The Whiskey Thief Distilling Co., who was the sponsor for the event. This ride on The Whiskey Trip was an adventure and the first live show with many family and friends in attendance to show their support for the big man. Cheers!

The product story they carefully craft is an intrinsic piece of their business, but what do you do once you have the story. How do you get and keep the customer. The best customers are often the most educated ones. This weeks episode is going to explore all three of these subjects. What are some unique ways brands attract new customers, how do they convert those customers to disciples and then how do they ensure the customer has the most information available to them all the time. After 40-years of work in film and theater acclaimed screenwriter and playwright Charles Fuller launches his first novel, SNATCH: The Adventures of David and Me in Old New York. Well-known for A Soldier's Play which won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama (1982) and his Academy Award nominated film, A Soldier's Story, (1985) which garnered an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture and a nomination for Best Screenplay for Mr. Fuller. This new exciting children's book debuts on June 2, 2010. SNATCH fulfills a promise Mr. Fuller made to his now middle-aged sons Charles III and David Ira Fuller nearly a half century ago, that he would create a story in which the two of them would be the heroes in a historical adventure during the turbulent times in New York before slavery was abolished. Set in “Five Points” a notorious neighborhood in New York City in 1838, Snatch is a tale about two brothers, David and Charles, “free” black kids, who while fishing in the Hudson River on a day in September meet and help a fugitive slave, Freddie Johnson elude a gang of slave catchers led by a mysterious man called “Snatch.” Over thirty-six hours, the two brothers engineer a wild chase and escape through the streets and tunnels of Old New York helped by the “Brewery Witches,” a trio of girls from the neighborhood. Mr. Fuller's rich, multi-layered children's adventure novel provides a glimpse into the little known history of life for free blacks in antebellum New York during the 1830s. Both historically authentic and entertaining, “Snatch” is a must read for book lovers of all ages.
