C'était il y a bientôt quatre ans, alors que nous venions de reprendre avec Corentin les podcasts sur Comicsblog.fr, que nous développions notre format SuperFriends . A ce moment le dessinateur Geoffo vient introduire cette nouvelle émission, à l'occasion de la sortie de son premier titre en creator owned chez Image Comics, Burnouts. A présent, le bonhomme a su tirer son épingle du jeu dans l'industrie américaine, en travaillant tour à tour pour Marvel, en indépendant, et chez DC Comics. If that weren't enough, they also do their best to catalogue and review every Bat-Book currently on the market. Do they get them all? No. Do they try really hard? Maybe. Jace and Rocky from Comic Boom! break down the DC books for the week of July 13, 2021. Batman Urban Legends starts off with arguably the most definitive Jason Todd story ever as we see the former Robin facing his inner-demons with gorgeous art from Eddy Barrows & Marcus To. The second story gives us our second look at Ryan Wilder in the DCU, but we haven't seen her in the costume yet. The Tim Drake story sparks a HUGE debate between Jace and Rocky about the future of Tim and whether the characterization we get in the story is accurate or not. The final Batman Urban Legends story finishes up the Grifter story with kinetic Ryan Benjamin art and a massive reveal that could have lasting effects for the DC Universe. A lot of people are going to be talking about this Grifter story, so we hope it doesn't get spoiled for you. Rorschach #10 lays out the case so far and adds some insights to let try to figure out the mystery for ourselves and the spectacular artwork really makes this one of the best issue so far. Justice League Last Ride #3 is another real highlight this week as Zdarsky gives us the awkwardness of a family dealing with loss in a pitch perfect way. Also the Miguel Mendonca art is perhaps the best single issue the artist has ever done, AMAZING! The latest issue of the Joker, #5 departs from the current storyline to give us a past story of the Joker and Gordon that adds a lot of context to their relationship. We also get some great Francesco Francavilla art that really adds to the moodiness of the story. Detective Comics #1039 shows us Hue Vile revealed and gives his origin as well, it feels a bit abrupt but maybe the next time we see Vile show up it may resolve his story and reflect back favorably on this one. Future State Gotham #3 is frustrating both from the sense the diminished quality of the art as well as the lack of momentum in the story which feels bogged down in tropes. Flash 2021 Annual #1 is yet another Wally West redemption story, the retcon that it applies to the Heroes in Crisis story sets off a volatile debate amongst the guys. One of them argues it is heartfelt while adding respect and weight to the death of Roy Harper. The other says that the way this story dismisses and diminishes Heroes in Crisis is blatantly disrespectful. Who do you think is on which side? And more importantly, who do you agree with? Wonder Woman #775 is another title the guys didn't see eye to eye on, the heavy ties to different mythologies are starting to pull the attention away from Wonder Woman herself for Rocky, while Jace things that it has yet to be determined where the story is going or how to grade it. Infinite Frontier #2 has some great moments, but we are still waiting for that one story beat that can start to pull all this disparate threads together. We do have hope though, because the individual moments have been intriguing. In the pages of Batman The Detective #4 we see a Bruce Wayne who may have lost a step. or has he? The characterization is a little inconsistent for Jace and he wonders of the story might be suffering because of it. Jace and Rocky also express their shock and sorrow regarding the passing of Robson Rocha and pass their condolences on to his family and friends. A tremendously talented artist who was taken far too soon, the loss for the industry is a big one. This is our biggest spotlight yet and there is a TON of fiery debate about his week's books.

This week, we run through the "DC Pride" #1 special, talking about the (mostly really good!) stories. In the second half of the show, we discuss the other, nearly all Bat-focused, titles of the week. Also, since Zach is still away, Brian and Vince go on a Dan Aykroyd tangent. Jace and Rocky from the Comic Boom! YouTube channel talk about the latest DC books. There are so many great titles this week starting with Batman Urban Legends #4, the Red Hood and Grifter stories continue to be absolutely amazing. We get a fun look at Luke Fox back in the Batwing costume and the first of a three part Tim Drake Robin story. Meanwhile the emotionality and action of the Justice League's last adventure continues in Justice League Last Ride #2 and the art is spectacular. Rorschach #9 doesn't move the narrative forward in a big way, but the visual storytelling is superb and it feels like the clues are starting to line up. Batman The Detective #3 gives a welcome look at a young Bruce Wayne traveling the world and learning some manhunting skills, the guys both would love a series focused solely on this period of Batman's training. Over in Detective Comics #1037, Bruce Wayne has actually been accused of murder and arrested. Doesn't the GCPD now better by now? One of the back-ups starts a big debate about Lucius Fox and had Jace all fired up! Wonder Woman #773 might not resolve the Norse storyline in the most mythic & impactful of ways, but the story is wildly entertaining and feels authentic. Also the last page view of Themyscira is a great cliffhanger. Joker #4 has more of the actual Joker in it than any of the previous issues and the guys are divided on whether that's a good thing or not. Future State Gotham #2 teases a chance at redemption for Jason Todd, but is it too little, too late?

Jace and Rocky from Comic Boom talk in depth about the DC books for the week of May 11, 2021. We have a giant-sized celebration of Asian creators and characters that clocks in at 100 pages. A new limited series that supposedly tells the last story of the Justice League kicks off with incredible art. The third issue of Batman Urban Legends continues to give us an amazing Red Hood story and the Grifter story is just as good if not better. Rorschach #8 deepens the mystery and we can't wait to see how the creative team brings it all together. Superman #31 has a VERY appropriate line from Jon Kent we hope DC takes to heart even if the rest of the story is only ok. Future State Gotham leaves a lot to be desired and as of the first issue we recommend you skip it. The second issue of Batman the Detective sets up some big events for the series that could tie into Bruce's past. Wonder Woman #772 gives us more of the crossover between the Norse and Greek mythologies and we feel it is working very well. Finally the Joker title continues to star Jim Gordon and we couldn't be happier with how it has played out so far, superb.
