在美國一個州的城市市中心,發現有一對Googly eyes 出現在公共藝術雕塑上。有人喜歡亦有人投訴,到底為甚麼他們會莫名其妙的出現,唔聲唔聲嚇你一驚?
Googly eyes have been appearing on sculptures around the central Oregon city of Bend, delighting many residents and sparking a viral sensation covered widely by news outlets and featured on a popular late-night talk show. On social media, the city shared photos of googly eyes on installations in the middle of roundabouts that make up its so-called “Roundabout Art Route.” One photo shows googly eyes placed on a sculpture of two deer, while another shows them attached to a sphere. It's not yet known who has been putting them on the sculptures. "While the googly eyes placed on the various art pieces around town might give you a chuckle, it costs money to remove them with care to not damage the art," the city said in its posts. The Facebook post received hundreds of comments, with many users saying they liked the googly eyes. “My daughter and I went past the flaming chicken today and shared the biggest laugh," one user said, using a nickname for the “Phoenix Rising” sculpture. "We love the googly eyes. This town is getting to be so stuffy. Let's have fun!” Others said the city should focus on addressing more important issues, such as homelessness, instead of spending time and money on removing the googly eyes. Over the years, the city's sculptures have been adorned with other seasonal decorations, including Santa hats, wreaths, and leis. The city doesn't remove those, and views the googly eyes differently because of the adhesive, Bend's communications director, Rene Mitchell, told The Associated Press. “We really encourage our community to engage with the art and have fun. We just need to make sure that we can protect it and that it doesn't get damaged,” she said. The city has so far spent $1,500 on removing googly eyes from seven of the eight sculptures impacted, Mitchell said, and has started treating some of the art pieces, which are made of different types of metal, such as bronze and steel. The "Phoenix Rising" sculpture might need to be repainted entirely, she said. This article was provided by The Associated Press.

What fifth-generation fighter jet should India invest in—the Russian Su-57 or the American F-35? This question has taken centre stage following a calculated pitch by Russian state media, spearheaded by Sputnik, touting the Su-57 as a ‘superior option' for India. But is this merely a tactical move, or does it hold real strategic merit? The timing of Russia's push is quite interesting too. President Vladimir Putin is slated to visit New Delhi in early 2025 for the 23rd annual India-Russia bilateral summit. Against this backdrop, the Sputnik India tweets have reignited debate over India's potential acquisition of a fifth-generation fighter jet. It presented the Su-57 as an attractive alternative to the F-35 and an essential complement to India's "Make in India" initiative. But is this a sincere offer or a cleverly crafted gambit? The pitch also comes when India is grappling with delays in its domestic fighter programs, such as the Tejas Mark 1A and the ambitious AMCA, which remain in the prototype stage. These setbacks create a fertile ground for foreign lobbying, but should India let its long-term vision for indigenous defence manufacturing take a backseat? On this episode of In Our Defence, host Dev Goswami and defence expert Shiv Aroor analyse Russia's ‘googly' pitch for the Su-57. How would acquiring this jet impact India's indigenous AMCA project? Given its current defense strategy, how realistic is the prospect of India considering the Su-57—or even the F-35? Tune in! I'm your host, Anna, and today we have an exciting array of stories, from the challenges of orbital debris to the latest in lunar and Martian exploration.Highlights:- Intelsat 33e Breakup: The recent disintegration of the Intelsat 33e satellite has intensified concerns over space debris, adding to the already critical situation in low Earth orbit. With over 13,000 metric tons of space junk orbiting our planet, this incident underscores the urgent need for effective measures to prevent further collisions and ensure safe operations in space.- Mars's Cosmic Googly Eye: NASA's Perseverance rover has captured a stunning sight of Mars's moon Phobos transiting the sun, creating a cosmic googly eye effect. This observation helps scientists refine their understanding of Phobos's orbital dynamics, revealing its gradual descent towards Mars.- Comet Detection Innovation: A new approach to comet detection, by analyzing meteor showers, could revolutionize our ability to predict potentially hazardous long-period comets. This method could provide early warnings and enhance planetary defense strategies.- China's Mars Sample Return Race: China's ambitious Tianwen 3 mission aims to return Mars samples by 2028, potentially outpacing NASA's efforts. This space race highlights the growing competition in Martian exploration and its implications for future space leadership.- India's Lunar Ambitions: The Chandrayaan 4 mission is set to launch in 2028, targeting the Moon's south pole for a sample return mission. This endeavor marks a significant step in India's broader lunar exploration strategy, aiming for human lunar landings by 2040.- IRIS 2 Broadband Constellation: The European Commission's IRIS 2 project, aiming to deploy over 290 satellites, faces delays and cost increases. "I really wanted to screen share stuff with people and make it as easy as possible and I got fed up. So I was just like, okay, you know, let's throw this up and let's stick on a nostr log in and let's add lightning zaps to it as a starting point. It was pushed out a bit prematurely, but... I think a lot of people want to use it.. they want a way to talk to other people where you're not really getting tracked. We want to be able to provide a space where people don't feel like there's some Googly eyes watching whatever they're talking about. Guest: Nikesh Arora, CEO and Chairman of Palo Alto NetworksNikesh Arora has been in the C-Suite for more than two decades, including a 10-year stint as Google's chief business officer and — most recently — five years as Palo Alto Networks' CEO. But the COVID-19 pandemic made him radically reconsider the gap between the executive floor and the rest of the company. “There was a tremendous amount of anxiety and fear and uncertainty,” he says, “and this person I was talking to says, ‘Listen, your job as a leader is to create certainty.' [...] It's simple: Tell your employees you have their back.” That's why, for the past 30 months, Nikesh has been making time to virtually meet thousands of Palo Alto Networks employees on Zoom; he gets candid feedback, communicates company goals, and provides a safe space for everyone to bond.In this episode, Nikesh and Joubin discuss honest CEOs, not having a career plan, process vs. outcomes, remaining independent inside Google, organizational superpowers, understanding your competitors, “evergreen companies,” the ChatGPT disruption, integrating product and sales, blindfolded communication, Evian water, cloud vs. on-prem security, and problem solvers vs. problem representers. In this episode, we cover: Amazing people at Google (02:15) T-Motion and T-Mobile (04:05) “You cannot control the outcome” (07:36) Growing up in India (11:12) 400+ rejection letters (14:38) Loving what you do (18:26) Joining Google (19:55) Sergey Brin and Eric Schmidt (24:16) Relocating to “the mothership” (27:01) “He's not Googly enough” (28:26) Profit, innovation, and paranoia (31:12) Cybersecurity and AI (34:04) SoftBank CEO Masa Son (38:54) Joining Palo Alto Networks (43:04) Hiring as home-building (47:04) “Nobody comes to work to screw up” (50:25) Product and the power of marketing (53:28) Cybersecurity “swim lanes” (56:36) M&A strategy (01:01:14) The two schools of due diligence (01:05:05) Moving past problems (01:07:42) Creating certainty for employees (01:10:59) Links: Connect with Nikesh Twitter LinkedIn Connect with Joubin Twitter LinkedIn Email: grit@kleinerperkins.com Learn more about Kleiner Perkins This episode was edited by Eric Johnson from LightningPod.fm
