PART ONE:Paul and Scott discuss the state of contemporary country music, the way the genre has come to dominate the pop chart, and the rapidly-changing nature of what's the most popular song at any given moment.PART TWO:Our in-depth conversation with Ashley GorleyABOUT ASHLEY GORLEY:With an unprecedented track record of nearly 70 chart-topping country hits, Ashley Gorley is perhaps the most commercially successful songwriter in history. He has written more #1 singles than anyone in any genre, and has had over 400 of his songs recorded by artists such as Morgan Wallen, Chris Stapleton, Luke Bryan, Thomas Rhett, Carrie Underwood, Blake Shelton, Kelsea Ballerini, Lee Brice, Brad Paisley, Darius Rucker, Bon Jovi, and Weezer. Ashley has been named ASCAP Country Songwriter of the Year nine times, Billboard Country Songwriter of the Year six times, and NSAI Songwriter of the Year six times. He was then named NSAI Songwriter of the Decade for the period ranging from 2010-2019. Additionally, Ashley was honored as the Top Male Songwriter of 2021—across all genres—by the National Music Publishers Association. In 2023 the NMPA honored him with their icon award for non-performing songwriters. The multiple CMA, ACM, and Grammy nominee has received the CMA's Triple Play Award 20 times in his career, which recognizes songwriters with three or more #1 songs in a single year. In 2016, Ashley became the first songwriter to be honored with three CMA Triple Play Awards in a single year for earning nine chart-topping songs in a 12-month period. He repeated that feat in 2020 and again in 2022. This year, Gorley was announced as ACM Songwriter of the Year, also taking home the Song of the Year award and celebrating three Song of the Year nominations, placing him in rare company with Kris Kristofferson and Merle Haggard, the only other songwriters to achieve the same feat in a single year. In addition to his decorated career as a songwriter, Ashley launched his own music publishing company, Tape Room Music, with a writer roster that has earned nearly 40 #1 hits.
Have you ever observed individuals dancing without any audible music but sporting illuminated headphones? If so, you have witnessed a silent disco, which has been in existence for a while and is now gaining popularity. By donning headphones, one can concentrate on the music and enjoy a high-quality experience. How will this silent disco have the time of your life at your next event? In this unique episode, we are joined by the esteemed Founder & CEO of CiferNoise Productions, Jason Gorley, who shares his insightful thoughts on silent disco. He navigates through the potential of this innovative technology, providing a brief historical background, and highlighting how it creates a distinct connection among people through the power of music. Tune in to discover the many dimensions of silent disco and how it is transforming the way we experience music. --- Listen to the podcast here: Exploring the World of Silent Disco with Jason Gorley Welcome to Action's Antidotes, your antidote to the mindset that keeps you settling for less. For most of my life, I've had these competing pursuits of wanting to kind of foster people's individuality but also build community at the same time and one of the problems I encountered was I'd always thought of these particular pursuits as competing with one another, you're either becoming more close but becoming less individual or going in the opposite direction. My guest today is Jason Gorley of CiferNoise Productions and what they do is they do silent discos, which is one of the areas where I've seen people allow people to have an individual experience while also coming together. --- Jason, welcome to the program. Hey, thanks for having me. Yeah, no problem. Yeah, thank you for coming on. Yeah, describe the silent disco experience and what motivated you to kind of bring this into the world. Thanks for asking. A lot of things motivated me to bring this into the world but let's start with silence disco is it's a unique experience that anyone can travel down with headphones but also, it's not just wearing headphones, it's having the options to choose what you're listening to at a particular event. So, silent disco can have three all the way up to ten channels and each channel can be curated in a way to fit the demographic that is present within your event or any pop-up in general. You could do multiple things from movie nights to conferences to regular parties and it's just a different way of replacing speakers and creating more of an immersive experience with your ears. How I got into it, I went to a school that partied a lot and I loved throwing parties. University of Arizona, bear down. Oh, yeah, that is known for its party atmosphere, for sure. Yeah, yeah, we do party a lot down there, especially those who don't even go to college. I always had a knack of wanting to bring people together. The greatest thing is just watching people smile after they leave your events. I've always been a people person or gathering people together and putting them in little areas for them to hang out in. So, when I got into my adulthood life, more 30s, leaving the telecom industry, I wanted to find something more invigorating, I guess one would say, and I tell people I got into this on a push from an ex-girlfriend and a cover letter. So that's a really good punch line. A push from an ex-girlfriend, and a cover letter. Now, I don't know about anyone listening but I usually don't think of cover letters as leading to anything fun. It's one of the BS processes, or parts of the job finding process so you have to tell me about how an ex-girlfriend push and a cover letter brought you too silent disco. Yeah, just like everything else in this world, you got to start from the bottom. I guess during that time in my life and it's starting to get more look far off in the past, yeah, she was the one that encouraged me to or pushed me to be like,

Roy L Hales/ Cortes Currents - Prior to embarking upon a literary career, in 1985, Ray Grigg taught English, literary history, fine arts and comparative world religions in British Columbia's High School system. Since then, he has written a long list of books on Taoism, Zen and environmental issues. Grigg was also the author of a column called ‘Shades of Green,' which ran in the Campbell River Courier-Islander for 15 years. A little over half a year ago, he started writing a series of articles called ‘the Quadra Project.' “What I'm trying to do is revision the way in which we understand forestry taking place on Quadra Island. We have to move outside the notion of annual allowable cut to ecological restoration and also carbon sequestration,” explained Grigg. “This has been one of the primary recommendations of the old growth strategic review panel by Merkel and Gorley who were charged with the responsibility of redesigning what forestry should be like in British Columbia. That was in 2019.” Grigg blames the subsequent protests at Fairy Creek on BC Government's failure to honour its promise to implement this report. He says the corporatization of logging has led to the decimation of the forest industry and gutted mills throughout the province. Logs from Quadra Island, for example, are not processed on Quadra, but exported to foreign markets in Japan, China, Taiwan, the United States etc. “The other, I think more pressing issue, is that we are in the middle of the six major species extinction in the history of the planet and we are also confronting an ecological climate crisis,” said Grigg. “What we need to do is we need to think in terms of carbon sequestration, and that is the greatest positive contribution that Quadra Island could make, and I think Cortes Island and many communities in British Columbia, towards solving the carbon climate crisis. We need to change our whole way of understanding how forests work.”

All the way from episode 29 our brother, our protector, and now, our FRANKEN FRIEND, Doug Gorley returns to the show for another hilarious appearance on the show. He fills in on the knobs when Tay Tay can't make it. Finally, we talk final meals, Jim Breuer impressions, LAZYLAND and the strippers, and possibly punching each other in the face. Such a great time and TONS of laughs! We hope you enjoy the episode!
If you were to take just the number 1 country songs Ashley Gorley has written and, supposing their average length is, say, 3:30... played them back to back to back... you're gonna be listening for just over 3 hours. With his current tally of #1 songs at a ridiculous 51, Gorley seems to have a gear nobody else has. The awards he's won and honors he's received alone take up 16 lines on his Wikipedia page. Even more remarkable, Ashley didn't really grow up singing or even playing instruments much. He's never been in a band. He never sought stardom as an artist. He WAS into music though- MTV, DJ-ing, and studying how songs, melodies and beats are put together. And maybe even more remarkable than all of that..? He's still humble- still quick to deflect credit to co-writers and artists. And he still loves what he does. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Phil talks with Dr. Craig Gourley about learning from God in the midst of brokenness. Before 2012, Dr. Craig Gourley’s life was going better than he ever could’ve hoped. He was an award-winning OBGYN who loved his work and was more financially stable than he’d ever been. Then, he had his first seizure, and his life would never be the same. Listen as Dr. Gourley talks about the painful but ultimately beautiful process of losing stability, status, and ego in order to gain something far more important—an understanding of his dependence on God.

Georgia boy Billy Currington is enjoying his latest run of success. Since he signed his first label deal with Mercury Records just over ten years ago, he's put out five studio albums, charted eleven top forty hits, and celebrated seven number ones. We had achance to catch up with Billy and writers Ashley Gorley, Chris DeStefano, and Rhett Akins to celebrate the success of his latest number one "Hey Girl."
When a song is written by three powerhouse songwriters and performed with an honest hear, it can lead to great things. In this case...its a number one hit. Dallas Davidson, Kelly Lovelace, and Ashley Gorley wrote "Runnin' Outta Moonlight" and Randy Houser made sure to cut it, and the rest...as they say...is history. We had a chance to catch up with Randy and the writers of that hit song at a party at Nashville's Adventure Science Center to celebrate.
Brett Eldredge's career is flying high these days, and not just because he celebrated his first number one hit by skydiving for the first time. Having a number one on the charts is an incredible feeling for both artists and songwriters, but that first one is always especially sweet. We had a chance to catch up with Brett and his co-writers Chris Destefano and Ashley Gorley at a party to celebrate.
We kick off another Inside Music Row with the mention of Billy Ray Cyrus as he has just wrapped another movie project here in Middle Tennessee. "Like A Country Song" was filmed all over downtown Nashville and the surrounding area and is expected to hit theaters in November. Tracy Lawrence is also in the news as he is set to relase his next project "Headlights, Tallights and Radios." This is the first full studio album Tracy has put out in several years and will hit stores August 20th. Billy Currington is also releasing a new album on September 17th called "We Are Tonight." You've probably already heard the lead single "Hey Girl" on the radio, which was written by hitmakers Rhett Akins, Chris DeStefano and shley Gorley. Up next is Hunter Hayes as he is set to headline his first tour this fall with "CMT On Tour: Hunter Hayes Let's Be Crazy." The 21-city run kicks off in Knoxville October 10th. Finally, we go Inside The Song with Tony Martin to hear about a song he co-wrote for Josh Turner called "Time Is Love."
We kick off this very special best-of edition of Inside Music Row with our coverage of Carrie Underwood at her "Good Girl" number one party in Nashville. The song was co-written with Chris DeStefano and Ashley Gorley.
Carrie Underwood hit the charts for the fifteenth time with "Good Girl," a track she co-wroter with Ashley Gorley and Chris DeStefano. We had a chance to catch up with Carrie and her co-writers at a party at the Country Music Association to celebrate that song's recent success.
When Brad Paisley and Keith Urban debuted their song 'Start a Band,' they started out just having fun with it, not really thinking about it hitting number one. 'Start A Band' did make it onto Brad's "Play" Album and song eventually took the top spot, earning honors for everyone. Kelly Lynn headed over to ASCAP to catch up with co-writers Ashley Gorley and Kelley Lovelace
When Darius Rucker decided to make a solo country album, he knew he'd be facing an uphill climb. Well-Known for his super successful group Hootie and The Blowfish, a change like that isn't always easy, and sometimes is not accepted by the fans. Luckily, Darius has been embraced by country music fans, and now has yet another number one single. We caught up with him and the writers for a party to celebrate the success of "It Won't Be Like This For Long".
Mr. Gourley proudly made his debut on Swindon radio station Brunel FM this week! He interviewed Nizlopi and Jimmy Davis for their show at The 12 Bar. The audio is hear. Apologies for the poor quality of the recording, I had to dust off my old FM radio as they don't broadcast in DAB! (sorry, I promise that will be the last geeky comment I ever make for Uber Loud Records!)
