On this episode of Roger the Wild Child Show: Nashville edition, we are joined by musician Rick Monroe and singer/songwriter, Matt Oakley!RICK MONROEWorld-class entertainer Rick Monroe brings his music and a magnetic presence wherever he goes. With adown-to-earth Country resonance, Monroe is no stranger to the stage: he's performed in 17 countries–and every U.S. state including Washington DC & Puerto Rico. The seven-time Jägermeister Country Brand Ambassador has toured with Eric Church, Dierks Bentley, Lee Bice, Aaron Lewis, Eli Young Band, Pat Green & Randy Houser as well as has opened for Country Music Legends like Charlie Daniels Band, Dwight Yoakam, Travis Tritt, Patty Loveless and more; entertained for the USO, AFE, U.S. troops in Vietnam and the former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev. His brother called him “Elvis Gump” because of all the amazing people and places his career has led him.Show-goers can expect to hear some of Rick's new material as well as hit singles like the sultry “This Side of You,” and the Southern rocker “Cocaine Cold & Whiskey Shakes.” As well as several Top 40 hits from the IT'S A LOVE THING, GYPSY SOUL EPs & Full Albums SMOKE OUT THE WINDOW & AGAINST THE GRAIN.For those who aren't familiar with his music, Rick advises them to come to the show for a good time and to be ready for “just about anything.” “I love to play,” the singer notes. “And I want everyone to play along. I like to think of my shows as an interactive sport.”Rick enjoys sponsorships and/or endorsements with Monster Energy Drink, GHS Strings, SE electronics, Roper Western Wear, Shubb Capos, Speakeasy Original, Westone Audio & Fishman Audio. Rick grew up in a variety of places–California, Connecticut, Kansas, North Carolina, even England, and his love of music and outgoing personality naturally drew him to the stage. Now based in Nashville, Monroe believes GYPSY SOUL shows the kind of diversity he can offer as an artist. He says, “I'm not so linear in my approach to music; I'm more diversified. My influences range from A to Z and I always try to put that into my music. But my home base will always be Country because it's not just about the hype of an idea; it's based on songs.” Fans can expect to hear a wide range of material–but Rick promises that it will all be quality. If his chart success is any indication, it's clear Monroe knows what folks want to hear–and he's eager to give them exactly that.MATT OAKLEYMatt Oakley is diving in with the ultimate summertime love song, “Single This Summer,” releasing on June 28. Neon nights and shots in the moonlight, “Single This Summer” delivers clever messaging of "trying to keep her from being ‘single this summer'."“We wanted the tempo and energy to match the storyline and feel like a summer song, not some slow love song,”Oakley states about the song that'll have you carefree in the summer heat.Matt Oakley's first song written with Nashville songwriters including GRAMMY Award winning songwriter David Ray Stevens, “Single This Summer” ushers in good vibes in summertime. Oakley sings, "we were two flames burning, red wine and bourbon, leaning on each other for a little southern comfort.""Single This Summer" will be available on all streaming platforms June 28, one week after his appearance on Tampa Bay's Morning Blend on June 21. Davis Loose joins us today and man I have loved getting to know him these past couple years. I met Davis when he was just 16 at the St Augustine's songwriter's festival. I host this festival every year out in Florida and the year I met Davis I was genuinely surprised by how talented he was. He is a fantastic songwriter and performer so when I heard he was thinking about making the move to Nashville, I told him he'd have a job at the Listening Room. Davis has been in town for just 2 years now and during that time he has - grown his network to writing with guys like Mark Irwin, went from serving tables here at the Listening Room to playing our main stage, writing a song that made its way to American Idol, and puts in the work writing 5 days a week. Davis has one single out so far titled - John Deere Tractor Beer and tells the story behind this one and plays a piece of it for us. Davis is young and fresh in Music City and has a lot of great work left to do. Right now, he has the opening slot on Randy Houser's upcoming tour, is continuing to play songwriters festivals, and continues to write and build his camp with some iconic songwriters here in town. We had a lot of fun during this one and are so excited to introduce you to one of Nashville's up-and-comers. You can find Davis on Instagram @davisloose and be sure to check out his recent release “John Deere Tractor Beer” anywhere you get your music. It's a great one. Tomorrow's Hits Today! Today's guest is Nashville singer/songwriter/producer Justin Wilson! Over the years, Justin has recorded songs by country stars like Morgan Wallen, Blake Shelton, Luke Bryan, Keith Urban, Thomas Rhett, Riley Green, Granger Smith, Parmalee, Nate Smith, and many more! His first #1 song, “KISS YOU IN THE MORNING” was recorded by Michael Ray, quickly to be followed up by Randy Houser's “WE WENT”, Mitchel Tenpenny's “DRUNK ME” and Dustin Lynch's “MOMMA'S HOUSE”. We talk about the influence of rock sounds and rock lyrical influence in today's country music. Justin also shares with us the long-winding story of the track "Straight Outta Cold Beer" which ended up on Blake Shelton's album IF I'M HONEST. We play Justin's version with Justin on lead vocals for the first time! How do you take a dark lyric and shine it up, polish it off, and make it feel bright and celebratory? It's an art unto itself that Justin explains to us. Justin's latest project is the tv show "BANDED: THE MUSICIAN COMPETITION", with our very own Bob Chiappardi as EXECUTIVE PRODUCER, airing NOW Saturday nights on AXS TV! Here's the premise for the show: Imagine finding 25 musicians (5 singers, 5 guitarists, 5 drummers, 5 bass players, and 5 keyboard players), splitting them up into 5 different bands in their preferred genres (most of whom have never met or played together), sticking them with songwriters/mentors, record the songs in a major studio for the first time, and then perform the songs 2 weeks later in front of a live audience, celebrity judges, and in front of 10+ cameras for the first time! MIND-BLOWING how difficult this must have been for these artists! We can't wait to watch the show. We get to hear a demo of the song "SHOOT FROM THE HIP" from the band Justin mentored on the show, known as Gamblers In The Neon! Are you ready for some CONTROVERSY???
