Order of Service: - Prelude - Hymn 76 - Father, We Praise Thee, Now the Night is Over - Galatians 4:21-31: Tell me, you who desire to be under the law, do you not hear the law? For it is written that Abraham had two sons: the one by a bondwoman, the other by a freewoman. But he who was of the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, and he of the freewoman through promise, which things are symbolic. For these are the two covenants: the one from Mount Sinai which gives birth to bondage, which is Hagar— for this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children— but the Jerusalem above is free, which is the mother of us all. For it is written: “Rejoice, O barren, You who do not bear! Break forth and shout, You who are not in labor! For the desolate has many more children Than she who has a husband.” Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are children of promise. But, as he who was born according to the flesh then persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, even so it is now. Nevertheless what does the Scripture say? “Cast out the bondwoman and her son, for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.” So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman but of the free. - Devotion - Prayer - Hymn 262 - Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah - Blessing - Postlude Service Participants: Rev. Jono Manson is one of the godfathers of the NYC jam band scene, an influential presence in the early days when bands like Blues Traveler and Spin Doctors were cutting their teeth. A longtime singer, songwriter and producer, Jono has an impressive list of credits and he's one of those guys who always seems to be working on something. He's released two albums here in 2023, including Stars Enough to Guide Me, his latest solo album -- and also, Bootlegger Days, a collaboration with John Popper. He joined Matt to discuss a wide range of topics, including those early days in NYC, some recent work with Eric Ambel, adventurous times in the '90s out on the road with the H.O.R.D.E. festival and lots more.Jono will be on the road starting this month for a lengthy series of shows with Blues Traveler in addition to his own solo headlining dates. It's been quite a while since he's been out for such a lengthy tour, so go see him if he's coming your way! Our thanks to Jono for this conversation, which was a lot of fun!
Over the years, certain General Conference talks have become like “anchor talks” for me. These talks have provided me with blessings, revelations, and have become guideposts throughout my life. Inspired by a talk given during sacrament meeting in my ward and the special musical number, Guide Me to Thee by Casey Elliot from Gentri from that same meeting, I started putting together a list. This comprehensive list contains all my “anchor talks” and why they have been so impactful for me throughout my life. In this episode, I share insights from President Nelson’s talk A Plea to my Sisters, Sister Eubank’s talk Christ: The Light That Shines in Darkness, and Put on Thy Strength, O Zion by Elder Bendnar. You’ll hear how these talks, and many more became guiding lights for me through their powerful teachings and spiritual wisdom. Join me as I re-examine these talks and the amazing influence they have had on my life.

He prayed to the LORD and said, “O LORD! Is not this what I said while I was still in my own country? That is why I fled to Tarshish at the beginning; for I knew that you are a gracious God and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love, and ready to relent from punishing. And now, O LORD, please take my life from me, for it is better for me to die than to live.” Andthe LORD said, “Is it right for you to be angry?” Then Jonah went out of the city and sat down east of the city, and made a booth for himself there. He sat under it in the shade, waiting to see what would become of the city. The LORD God appointed a bush, and made it come up over Jonah, to give shade over his head, to save him from his discomfort; so Jonah was very happy about the bush. But when dawn came up the next day, God appointed a worm that attacked the bush, so that it withered. When the sun rose, God prepared a sultry east wind, and the sun beat down on the head of Jonah so that he was faint and asked that he might die. He said, “It is better for me to die than to live.”But God said to Jonah, “Is it right for you to be angry about the bush?” And he said, “Yes, angry enough to die.” Then the LORD said, “You are concerned about the bush, for which you did not labor and which you did not grow; it came into being in a night and perished in a night. And should I not be concerned about Nineveh, that great city, in which there are more than a hundred and twenty thousand persons who do not know their right hand from their left, and also many animals?”Reader PeoplePSALMThe Word of the Lord. Dreams of Consciousness Podcast Episode 285 features an interview with Jeff Irwin of Will Haven. Will Haven were always ahead of their time. Their Nineties output mixed slow, ominous metal with extensive atmospheric sections, anticipating the "post-metal" and "doomgaze" movements that took shape in the following decade. Waves of metal sub-subgenres have peaked and subsided since then, but Will Haven are still around, and are still finding ways to stay ahead of the curve. I spoke with guitarist Jeff Irwin about how he finds the balance between "brutal" and "pretty", and how audiences reacted to the band's sound during their early years. We also discussed how an interest in numerology guided the release of the latest Will Haven album VII, and why groove is an important element of Will Haven's music. My thanks again to Jeff for speaking with me, and to you for listening. Thank you for joining our Sunday Service Podcast. Pastor Josh teaches us from the title “Guide Me” based on Gal. 5:16 AMP But I say, walk habitually in the [Holy] Spirit [seek Him and be responsive to His guidance], and then you will certainly not carry out the desire of the sinful nature [which responds impulsively without regard for God and His precepts].” We should seek to be guided in every area of our lives by Holy Spirit. And not seek our own paths. Listen to today's message and we pray it blesses you!
The research on William Williams, Pantycelyn seeks to integrate his life and his work within the context of the Welsh Reformation and on the wider Protestant world. While it is not original research, per se, it is original in the sense that this research seeks to shine a light on William Williams, Pantycelyn from a viewpoint within twenty-first century United States. The research first seeks to understand the cultural and religious landscape of eighteenth century Wales before looking at Williams's life and particularly his most famous work Arglwydd, arwain trwy'r anialwch (in English, Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah/Redeemer)

Order of Service: - Prelude - Prayer for Monday Morning, p. 168 - Hymn 13 - Dearest Jesus, Draw Thou Near Me - Hebrews 11: 13-16: These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. those who say such things declare plainly that they seek a homeland. And truly if they had called to mind that country from which they had come out, they would have had opportunity to return. But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Q. What is required in the sixth commandment?A. The sixth commandment requireth all lawful endeavours to preserve our own life, and the life of others. —Westminster Shorter Catechism, Question 68 The service this morning focuses on the contrast between life and death. We are invited into worship with John 6:35, in which Jesus proclaims, “I am the bread of life,” and Psalm 16, in which we declare to the Lord, “You make known to us the path of life.” We sing from Psalms 22, 27, and 49, asking to be set free from “death and evil,” being assured that we'll see God's goodness “in the land of life,” and taking comfort that “God will raise me from the grave.” Many of the hymns we sing are associated with the Easter season, looking to Christ's ultimate victory over death. At The Lamb's High Feast We Sing, Christ Jesus Lay In Death's Strong Bands, and Christ Is Risen! Hallelujah celebrate the Savior who “brought us life and light,” ensured that “the reign of death was ended,” and rose so that “henceforth never death or hell shall us enthrall.” Having contemplated the implications of the sixth commandment, the duty to preserve life and the prohibition of “whatsoever tendeth” to the taking away of life unjustly, we can go out with the hope presented in the hymn Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah: “When I tread the verge of Jordan, bid my anxious fears subside; death of deaths, and hell's destruction, land me safe on Canaan's side.” —Henry C. Haffner Exodus 20:1-17 God spoke all these words, saying, “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make for yourself a carved image…You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore, the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. Honor your father and your mother… You shall not murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. You shall not covet…” Keystone Verse: You shall not murder. (Exodus 20:13) Download Bulletin

Six performances on television across nine weeks in early 1956. Not only did Elvis's life and career changed so dramatically between them, but the face of America's cultural landscape, as the establishment voices of popular and country music fought the tidal wave of rock and roll on all fronts, winning some small victories like Dot Records's attempt to obliterate Little Richard's original "Tutti Frutti" with Pat Boone's atrocity, but ultimately losing the war as Elvismania takes over the nation. When Elvis first steps on camera for Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey's TV program in January, 1956, he's a novelty that can only be compared to Johnnie Ray... by the time he leaves, he's on track to being on the big screeen. Bec, Gurdip and Justin sit down to review all six Stage Show appearances, twelve songs in total, and try to unpack their significance. For Song of the Week, Justin takes the lead first to draw attention to the last real new cut for Elvis penned by Mort Shuman, "You'll Think of Me," then Bec digs deep on the gospel classic "Lead Me, Guide Me" and its writer Doris Akers, and finally, Gurdip tries to reason out why a 1957 Elvis bothered with the moody Cole Porter ballad, "True Love," originally by Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly. Sadly, video of Elvis's Stage Show appearances are largely commercially unavailable. Some individual performances are available in documentaries like Elvis '56, This is Elvis (theatrical and extended cuts) or The Great Performances. Some fans have shared a handful of performances on YouTube and other video hosting sites sourced from old non-official products and VHS collections, but we must acknowledge that there simply is currently no one-stop shop for all of them. A devotional on Numbers 17:7-10 7 And Moses laid up the rods before the Lord in the tabernacle of witness. 8 And it came to pass, that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds. 9 And Moses brought out all the rods from before the Lord unto all the children of Israel: and they looked, and took every man his rod. 10 And the Lord said unto Moses, Bring Aaron's rod again before the testimony, to be kept for a token against the rebels; and thou shalt quite take away their murmurings from me, that they die not. We try to use God as a stepping stone to get to our real gods - money, sex, and power - but in Jesus, God makes us his children, convinces us he's our father, and teaches us to value most highly his love for and commitment to us. Host: Steve Macchia, Guest: Dave Currie “Do everything for the glory of God – and with a song in your heart!” – Dave Currie Singing is a great way to help us notice what God is doing in our midst. When we let the message of Christ dwell among us richly, it's the songs, hymns, and spiritual songs – offered from our hearts – that solidify the truths about God in our souls. We are made in God's image, and we share in God's creative process as we sing and make music in our hearts. What is it about singing that characterizes the formative work of God in us? We explore this question and notice the dynamic work of God as our head and our heart cooperate with one another in song. Light of the anxious heart, Jesus, Thou dost appear To bid the gloom of guilt depart and shed Thy sweetness here. —Bernard of Clairvaux Just as Paul warns his readers in 1 Corinthians 7 to be “free from anxieties,” the hymns we sing this morning develop themes of setting aside worldly fears in favor of the rest we have in Jesus' finished work. My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less and My Trust Is In The Lord—Psalm 11 contrast a world filled with stormy gales, in which even the foundations are destroyed, with the solid rock of Christ, the Lord in whom we put our trust. O Put Your Trust In God and O Lord Teach Me To Follow You—Psalm 27 encourage us to “rest on His unchanging Word,” to “give to the winds your fears,” and to patiently “wait upon the Lord.” Be Still, My Soul and My Shepherd Will Supply My Need—Psalm 23 instruct us to “leave to Thy God to order and provide” because He is faithful to lead us to a “settled rest.” We close the service with a prayer, Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah: because we are weak and He is mighty, we implore our Lord to hold us, to lead us, feed us, deliver us, and to bid our “anxious fears subside.” —Henry C. Haffner Key Words: Present Distress, Betrothed, Short, Anxieties, Divided, Passions Keystone Verse: I want you to be free from anxieties. (1 Corinthians 7:32) 1 Corinthians 7:25-40 Now concerning the betrothed, I have no command from the Lord, but I give my judgment as one who by the Lord's mercy is trustworthy. 26 I think that in view of the present distress it is good for a person to remain as he is. 27 Are you bound to a wife? Do not seek to be free. Are you free from a wife? Do not seek a wife. 28 But if you do marry, you have not sinned, and if a betrothed woman marries, she has not sinned. Yet those who marry will have worldly troubles, and I would spare you that. 29 This is what I mean, brothers: the appointed time has grown very short. From now on, let those who have wives live as though they had none, 30 and those who mourn as though they were not mourning, and those who rejoice as though they were not rejoicing, and those who buy as though they had no goods, 31 and those who deal with the world as though they had no dealings with it. For the present form of this world is passing away. 32 I want you to be free from anxieties. The unmarried man is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to please the Lord. 33 But the married man is anxious about worldly things, how to please his wife, 34 and his interests are divided. And the unmarried or betrothed woman is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to be holy in body and spirit. But the married woman is anxious about worldly things, how to please her husband. 35 I say this for your own benefit, not to lay any restraint upon you, but to promote good order and to secure your undivided devotion to the Lord. 36 If anyone thinks that he is not behaving properly toward his betrothed, if his passions are strong, and it has to be, let him do as he wishes: let them marry—it is no sin. 37 But whoever is firmly established in his heart, being under no necessity but having his desire under control, and has determined this in his heart, to keep her as his betrothed, he will do well. 38 So then he who marries his betrothed does well, and he who refrains from marriage will do even better. 39 A wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to be married to whom she wishes, only in the Lord. 40 Yet in my judgment she is happier if she remains as she is. And I think that I too have the Spirit of God.

Unless the Lord protects a city, sentries do no good. 2 It is senseless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, fearing you will starve to death; for God wants his loved ones to get their proper rest. 3 Children are a gift from God; they are his reward. 4 Children born to a young man are like sharp arrows to defend him. 5 Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them. That man shall have the help he needs when arguing with his enemies.
Motivation Monday - Guide Me, Oh Thou Great Jehovah #8 This is an old hymn of the church. We often need to be reminded that our guide is Jehovah. No other can guide like him, no other can deliver you like him. No there is no other can open now the crystal fountain, whence the healing stream doth flow. Jehovah is our supreme guide! “Open now the crystal fountain, whence the healing stream doth flow; Let the fire and cloudy pillar lead me all my journey through; Strong deliverer, strong deliverer, Be thou still my strength and shield, Be thou still my strength and shield” Excerpt from “Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah William Williams Pg 682 of the Celebration Hymnal “The Lord will guide you always; He will satisfy your needs”.
