The Majority Report's Sam Seder joins us today to share some deep research into American Stupids. We look at Trump's weekend announcements regarding American film production & re-opening Alcatraz, both seemingly inspired by a TV broadcast of “Escape From Alcatraz” in West Palm Beach last Saturday. We also discuss Sam's recent debate appearances including the “vs. 20 Conservatives” video, and how it's not the stupidity but the confidence that's really astounding. Finally, for the main course for today's ep, the massive profile on John Fetterman's deteriorating mental competence, and how the most offensive part of the scandal is the staffers who covered for him now seeking to cover their own asses. It's time for another game of “When Did This Movie Come Out?” Can you beat Bob? Plus, does Vinnie need to have “the talk” with his daughter, we might be getting an ‘Escape From Alcatraz' sequel, and even a loser can win the lottery. The morning of June 12, 1962, alarms sounded at the federal prison on Alcatraz Island when guards conducting a head count came up three inmates short. In the prisoners' beds were decoy heads that bought the men enough time to escape the supposedly inescapable prison known as The Rock. The trio -- Frank Morris and brothers John and Clarence Anglin -- had used handmade tools to dig tunnels and craft makeshift rafts to brave the cold and turbulent waters of the Pacific in their bid for freedom. Was it a trip seeing this 1979 prison flick shot at the very historical location we just explored? Or should this movie go back to the slammer?

It's a case that inspired Clint Eastwood's ‘Escape From Alcatraz' (as well as one of Iain's favourite video games) and still manages to mystify investigators, historians and true crime aficionados to this day.Murder They Wrote with Laura Whitmore and Iain Stirling is available weekly on BBC Sounds. The Rock. No, not the 10x heavyweight champion Scorpion King star. Alcatraz Island is located 1.5 miles from San Francisco in the bay. It started it's life as a military installation on the west coast. After that it became a military jail. Then a federal prison. This 29 year stretch is where the legend of Alcatraz was born. From daring escapes to famous inmates, the island captured our minds through literature and film. After the prison was closed it became a place for protest. Nowadays it is a very popular tourist spot. Shake your cuffs and get ready to get Historically High on Alcatraz
Join us as we reveal the secrets of the United States Penitentiary, Alcatraz Island, also known as Alcatraz or simply, The Rock, which was a maximum-security federal prison on Alcatraz Island, 1.25 miles off the coast of San Francisco, California. We take a look at famous inmates, including the Birdman of Alcatraz and two of the most famous prison escape attempts: The Battle of Alcatraz and the 1962 escape of 3 unrecovered inmates. We overturn every lead we can find to determine if it was possible for 3 inmates would pull off what would be the most ingenious prison break of all time – if it was successful. If you have a buck instead of a book... we read so you don't have to. Even MORE practical knowledge is gained by reading Quentin Tarantino's Cinema Speculation: if you are Clint Eastwood all you need is an accordion and some paper mache to break out of Alcatraz. And some other things too. What you don't need is one host being a killjoy. Did we mention that Mr. Eastwood is nude in the opening sequence of this film. QT does. We might as well respect the author and auteur's wishes and mention that in these lowly show notes. Enjoy! Enjoy and keep reading along with us from Quentin Tarantino's CINEMA SPECULATION! On a snowy morning in December 1996, John and Patsy Ramsey awoke to find their entire world turned upside down as their beloved six year-old daughter JonBenet lay dead in the basement of their Colorado home. A decades-long media frenzy has swirled around this murder of a child beauty queen. Over the years many fingers have been pointed, but little answers have been found, and the mystery of who killed JonBenet Ramsey haunts the tabloids to this day. There comes a time in every podcast's life where it must cover the JonBenet Ramsey case, and for Strange and Unexplained that time is now. Come see Strange and Unexplained on Tour! Can a region absorb the dark energy of its historical monstrosities? Can land become innately evil, soil cursed by the wounds of violence? In Massachusetts the Bridgewater Triangle seems to be a vortex of the paranormal, perhaps created by horrific bloodshed that occurred centuries ago. The history of bloody conflict has given way to ghosts, UFOs, a wide variety of cryptids, satanic activity, and of course, murder most foul. On this episode we trudge into the swamps of the Bridgewater Triangle, and hope to come out in one piece on the other side… Come see Strange and Unexplained on Tour! Does a monstrous society breed monsters? Hate can twist, contort and mutate into something truly evil within an individual, propelling them to do unspeakable things. In the 1970s, a serial killer stalked the clubs and lounges of San Francisco, targeting gay men. His darkly artistic trademark request to draw his would-be victims led to his nickname, “The Doodler.” His victims lived quietly in fear of being targeted, silenced due to their greater fear of societal discrimination. Fifty years later, the case of The Doodler remains unsolved. Come see Strange and Unexplained on Tour! What is memory? The Oxford English Dictionary defines memory as the faculty by which the mind stores and remembers information. Or something remembered from the past; a recollection. But the OED doesn't weigh in on the factual accuracy of those recollections, nor does it mention how or where memories are stored. Our current understanding is that they form and are stored in our brains. Our brains after all are the motherboards of our bodies, but what if memories could also live somewhere else within us? Grief is a powerful thing. It's extremely personal and can make us act in ways unforeseen. So what happens when an entire nation experiences a loss, as they did in 1865 when President Lincoln was assassinated? The powers that were at the time decided to give the people an outlet for their grief with a small tour of part of the country featuring their dead president. It would be known as the Lincoln Ghost Train, which would serve as a public display of grief and all of it's strange and unexplained forms. Come see Strange and Unexplained on Tour! It's true crime, mystery, and the paranormal all rolled up into one historic location – Alcatraz! Alcatraz Island is a small island a little over one mile off the coast of San Francisco. It's home to the infamous Alcatraz federal prison which housed the worst of the worst criminals for 29 years before it was shut down in 1963. Al Capone, George “Machine Gun” Kelly, and Robert Stroud, The Bird Man of Alcatraz, were among its famous inmates. It's the also the inspiration for the 1979 Clint Eastwood movie, “Escape From Alcatraz” which was based on the true story about 3 inmates who allegedly successfully escaped from the prison. San Francisco native, researcher, psychic and paranormal investigator Jeff Dwyer, and ABC News 7 Bay Area journalist and producer, Casey Pratt share the history of the prison and some of its inmates, recount the real-life details of the famous escape story, and more importantly, delve into the paranormal experiences and ghostly sightings that have plagued the island almost since its discovery. In the mid 1800s, Maggie and Kate Fox convinced the world that they could communicate with the dead. And, for a fee, they'd communicate with your dead through a séance. The sisters became so famous for their private, as well as public, readings, that an entire new religion--Spiritualism--was ushered in to make sense (and profits) of it all. It was all going so well. The were rich and world famous. What could possibly go wrong? Come see Strange and Unexplained on Tour!
