This month we aren't in a specific series. Instead, I feel the Lord directing me to share what He puts on my heart for the week. Today's word is “I Choose Joy”. As counterintuitive as it sounds, joy is not determined by our circumstances. Joy is a choice. It's a choice to be joyful despite our circumstances. When we look at the scripture, joy is a fruit of the spirit. It's what separates us as believers in Christ and draws people to Him. On the surface, joy might seem like it's about your circumstances, but in reality, it's a state of being rather than an emotion. It's a result of choice. Joy is a gift from God. We can't always explain it, but just like any gift, we have to choose to accept it. Ask God today, "What area of my life do I need to choose joy?" Connect with Rachael: website | Instagram | Facebook

God wants you to live the blessed life. We live in a fallen world, but that doesn't change God's plan for your life; which is to live a blessed life. "And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the LORD your God: Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country. Blessed shall be the fruit of your body, the produce of your ground and the increase of your herds, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flocks...Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out...The LORD will command the blessing on you in your storehouses and in all to which you set your hand." Deuteronomy 28:2-8 God wants to bless you so much that His blessings overflow and splash on those around you. And this is what today's podcast is all about: How you can begin living a life of abundant blessing, despite what is going on in the world today. SHOW NOTES:• First of all, I want you to share your story with everybody who's listening, because I feel like there's a lot of people who see very successful people, and they think that those people just have always been successful. They've always had money, or they've always been in that top percent, and I want you to share where you came from, where your situation when you decided, I'm not going to stay in this place.(03:27)• Because I feel like it's similar to where I grew up, I never really knew anything outside of go to school, get a job, work your way up, do everything you can to impress your family, make them proud of you serve, serve, serve. I was raised in the church, and I just tried to always follow the rules, so I think the turning point for me was when I followed all the rules, and life still tanked that I knew something had to be wrong with the rules. It's kind of like what's going on in the world right now. Everybody's just wondering and following a set of rules that they stood by for so long and they don't realize that sometimes they need to find their own. (05:11)• It was everything I knew and believed in, so I was determined to make it work. So, I got involved with network marketing, and I was officially the worst human they'd ever seen, I was so afraid and so broken down, and I sucked at sales. I knew nothing about sales, I was doing phone TV, internet as electricity, I was disconnecting people's phones, I was screwing it up, royally. People are like, we've had this phone over in our family for generations, I'm like, Well, isn't it nice to bring in the new year with new, and they're like, No, it's not. And I was like, I'm really sorry. So I was really, really bad. Even my mentors who were some of the top 10 in the world, I think it was just a gift they were given to me, were like, Honey, you're not great at this, like maybe you should seek other avenues and work on this on the side for the next decade and see if it'll work. (09:20)• I really think I build their bravery enough to where they're brave enough, and we can have this conversation, the pin drop. And I'm like, I can build a business around that. So it's really helping someone be confident enough in that inner idea for a moment, and if they give me a moment, I can lay out a plan and a strategy for almost everything. Because my life was like three kids on my own having to do everything school, sports, house, everything, and I had to be so strategic in my every move that I can see someone's strategy from a mile away. They're like, it's the how I've got, it's the what that I need your help with. (16:17)• You've got the ripple effect. But a big one, and I feel like there are... How do I phrase this? So now I watch your Friday night lives and your posts and everybody, and all of the comments, and I think because I know you, and that it's not that I take it for granted, but I know how special you are, and not just me but to me and my girls, and I see all of those people who see you and you're such an inspiration to them, and I know that you inspire them so much and they just want to be in your presence. From the sermon series: I Choose Joy
James 1:2-4 | Make the choice right now. Right now. Before 2021 even begins, make a conscious decision: I will choose joy in whatever comes. It's easy to choose joy when all is well, it's harder to choose joy when things aren't. But we can be joyful in all things because the trials and troubles of life are God's time-worn path to an enduring, growing, thriving faith. If 2020 taught us nothing else, it should have taught us that with trials and troubles come a great opportunity to grow. And guess what? As much as we don't want to admit it, you know what is coming in 2021? More trials and troubles. So choose right now for 2021: Joy in whatever comes!

This past Sunday morning I woke up in a beautifully exhausted state and was still in the afterglow of having had two nights of fantastic gigs. Sundays are usually my day to totally veg and that pursuit was the extent of my day. On pops the telly and I start my day by watching reruns of Modern Family, my favourite sit-com. After the three episodes finished on regular TV, I was still in need to my ‘Phil’ fix so I went over to Amazon Prime and binge-watched an entire series, all 24 episodes. I was laughing out loud at the funny stuff and teary eyed during the tender stuff and found myself experiencing true moments of Joy. I genuinely felt happy, which was immediately followed by feeling terrified. I was terrified that something bad was going to happen to destroy this amazing feeling of happiness I was experiencing. WT actual F? Why couldn’t I allow myself to just be happy? I wanted to know why most of us feel that happiness comes with strings attached. So I googled ‘fear of being happy’ and found that there is an actual term for this … Cherophobia. I have never heard this word before, have you? Cherophobia is a phobia where a person has an irrational aversion to being happy. The term comes from the Greek word “chero,” which means “to rejoice.” After taking a few happiness quizzes, I am thankful to report that I’m not quite at phobia levels of happiness aversion, but many people are. According to an article I read by Calvin Holbrook, The fact that our brain is hardwired to focus on the negative rather than the positive comes into play when exploring aversion to happiness. Maybe this is why feeling happy often brings with it memories of when previous happy moments were followed by tragedy. The pursuit of happiness is a basic human right and a noble pursuit. Happiness is a human desire that we often look outside of ourselves to find. Money, power, possessions and substance use and abuse are often seen as a gateway to happiness, but we see the falicy of this thinking far too much with headlines announcing the self-destruction of so many, who by all appearances have it all, including happiness. There’s a Gospel song by Larnell Harris called ‘I Choose Joy’ and sometimes when I find myself feeling unhappy, I think about this song and it reminds me that I have the power to choose how I’m feeling. Sometimes that choice is a battle and the outcome is not always happiness, but often it is. So, while I was enjoying my lazy Sunday, I didn’t allow my mind to rob me of the joy I was feeling. I fought to stay in my happy place, and thankfully, it has spilled over into my week. It’s Wednesday and I’m still there. Find your happy place today and if fear shows up, just let that fear pass over you and then be happy anyway! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/gloria-miller-music/message

On our first episode, I get to interview my mentor, the lovely Danelle Delgado, one of the most highly regarded training experts, she is an International Speaker, Author, Business Strategist, CEO of Life Intended & Super mom. When she divorced her husband and was left to raise three kids by herself, she couldn’t survive off of her teacher salary alone, so she had to make a drastic life change and start a new career. Even when she couldn’t make a single sale in the beginning, any other person would have given up and called it quits, but being the fearless female that she is, Danelle continued to push herself until she ultimately made a sale and succeeded. Now, she spends her days helping other entrepreneurs to achieve their dreams and thrive in the entrepreneur sales industry. She currently is working on her next venture #MomStrong. Follow her on Facebook and Instagram. Purchase her book, “I Choose Joy” Want to be more Fearless? Check out our Facebook page and follow me on Twitter.
Danelle started as a teacher and pastor to being forced to make a change that led her down a long route of challenges. She has taken the stage with the likes of Darren Hardy, Les Brown, Lewis Howes, Grant Cardone and more but her philosophy is what really impresses me. Danelle believes that “First, it’s about building the person, then one can master the skills.” After spending an hour with Danelle, I felt compelled to buy her book, “I Choose Joy.” which serves 3 purposes. First, it's a daily gratitude tracker which Danelle details exactly how to go about this in this podcast. Second, writing down your goals for the day. and third, Writing what you’ve learned from 30 minutes of personal development each day. You can find a link to the book in the show notes. Danelle speaks about: 1. Her process to help people get clear to sell congruent with who they are. 2. The power you can give someone simply through believing in them. If you can show someone what’s possible, they rarely go back on that. 3. How to build your business around your life (not vice versa) 4. The power of daily gratitude and how it can reprogram your mind. 5. And Being thankful for our challenges because they give us the greatest gift of all. Perspective.
