We begin today by discussing how Republicans don't even believe their own talking points, which is why they were unprepared for a general election that didn't include Joe Biden. I offer broader context to this election by noting that standing for nothing didn't help them in 2022; it harmed them throughout their tenure in control of the House; and it won't help them now. They need to run on a bold agenda, and that begins with a budget fight in September. Next, we're joined by Dorothy Moon, chair of the Idaho GOP, who warns that RINOs are working with Democrats to subvert the grassroots control of the party. This is a threat in every red state. They plan to use the initiative petition process to make “ranked-choice voting” the law of the land. This will confuse voters and enable more liberals to slip through. She believes that in Idaho the grassroots are in a good position to beat back this effort. We also discuss the potential of switching primaries to either conventions or caucuses. As the Left seeks to abolish our primaries, we need to make them even tighter through a representative process controlled by the grassroots. There is a reason why our founders hated “direct” democracy. It leads to oligarchy. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

It is a beautiful Tuesday morning to talk legitimacy. Mike shared a 6-hour podcast with Norm last night so it is 50/50 on whether Norm makes it to the stream this morning. We haven't checked, but we've heard oddsmakers put a line on Draft Kings for this one. . If you're wagering against Norm, you've picked the wrong season. We're stacking wins around here. Ask Yale. We digress. Today, the stream focuses in on technical, almost mechanical details of government and justice system functions. This is a major tenant of institutional legitimacy—how the public trust is managed by and through the institutions within which it has been placed: . › The Idaho Tribune reports that the Idaho Republican Party has passed a resolution condemning the Federal Bureau of Investigation and further indicated that it supports abolition thereof if it cannot be reformed. Cool story, bro. What is most interesting, however, is the contents of the resolution used to support the condemnation. . › Planned Parenthood v. Stein continues to develop. The plaintiff's motion for a temporary restraining order is set to be heard tomorrow, March 28, 2023, in Greensboro, North Carolina. In monitoring court filings, Mike found a plaintiff submission indicating that the North Carolina legislature had met and voted just last week to approve certain amendments to the abortion law at issue, which portend to moot the overwhelming majority of the plaintiff's basis for relief. . › Finally, we do it. We talk about eminent domain in South Dakota and what's going on with the carbon capture pipeline project spearheaded by Summit Carbon Solutions. What is environmental justice? This administration keeps uttering the phrase, but it is not obvious that anything just is occurring below the ground, in the air, or within the courts on the issue of carbon capture and storage. . Idaho Matters takes a look at the response to last weekends events and how the narrative of grooming and sexualization of children has taken center stage in politics.
Idaho GOP puts together a call of action in response to a Boise Pride Festival event, liquor licenses in Idaho are a tense topic, Reclaim Idaho is pulling its initiative off the November ballot and an update on the country's largest wildfire. The Album Appetite For Destruction is 35 years old today. Nate asks: Where were you 35 years ago, and what was it like? After hearing some great music, and stories about what the Treasure Valley looked like in 1987 we screened an Alaskan who is about to become an Idahoan. Nate remembers things that are not only in the news right now, but also weren't things he was told about when he moved to Idaho, like Mormon crickets and wildfires. Idaho Transportation Department posted a video of them scraping thousands of mormon crickets off of a highway to avoid slick roads. How should we deal with Mormon crickets in Idaho? At the end of the show Nate gave an update on the identity of the person who gave out pizza party fliers to the homeless during the Idaho GOP convention last weekend. (7/21/22)
There was an Idaho man arrested for refusing to put down a pelican that he was holding while he was intoxicated. Nate started off with this, because every other topic was just downhill from there. Washington State Republicans wanted ballot box surveillance for every ballot box in King County. Is this something you would want in the State of Idaho? Nationally, Biden made a comment while talking about climate change that made it sound like he has cancer. If an elected official, particularly the president, has cancer does the public have a right to know? Boise City Councilwoman Luci Willits joined Nate to discuss what was discussed , and what should've been discussed further at yesterday's city council meeting. Over the weekend at the Idaho GOP convention, there was a pizza party event held for Tom Luna. Someone went to the local homeless shelter and handed out fliers saying that it was food for the hungry and a chance to meet Tom Luna. This ended up with homeless people in that area feeling embarrassed and humiliated. What should the punishment be for the person who pulled this political stunt? One of our callers suggests volunteering for a month. (7/20/22)

It's Rant and Rave Friday! Live, from Land Ocean in Meridian! The Idaho GOP convention is going on this weekend. One of the things they are considering is limiting who can register as a Republican before a Primary. Do you think that there should be more limits put on who can and cannot register as a Republican? Idaho GOP Chairman Tom Luna joined Nate to discuss the DNC sending $100,000 to Idaho to fund democrats and what this means for the republican party here. (3/10/22)
Jennifer Ellis has lost friends and received threats in her fight to get the Idaho GOP out of the grips of an increasingly far-right ideology. But she's no liberal – she's a conservative rancher who knows her way around firearms and has been a behind the scene player in GOP politics for years. Now she's trying to pull her party back from its increasing coziness with militias, anti-vaxxers and other far-right groups. Her activism is part of a growing cohort of anti-extremism groups around the country that have increased as once-fringe views have started seeping into mainstream politics. Ellis and other anti-extremist activists have an uphill battle in ruby red Idaho, but they're fighting and winning some battles. And no battle could be bigger than the upcoming election.
Cash Apps such as Venmo, Zelle, and PayPal are now being required to report any user who has received $600 or more in a year to the IRS. Will this affect you or your business? In Idaho the GOP party is wieghing a proposal that would make it so every Idaho GOP candidate would have to go through an interview process before declaring candidacy as a republican. Do you think that this is necesarry? Nate asks those questions and opens up the court of public opinion about a local dad who is facing two felony charges. (1/5/21)
Idaho GOP Chairman Tom Luna joined Nate Shelman to discuss local races from across the valley. (10/27/21)
The big topic of this week is protests in response to several local healthcare providers mandating the Covid-19 vaccine for employees. Do you think that the government should step in and prevent employers from being able to mandate the Covid-19 vaccine? Or is government intervention a step in the wrong direction? Joining Nate to discuss this topic are Victoria and Sandy from Take a Stand Now. Victoria gave her perspective as a healthcare worker. Tom Luna, Chairman of the Idaho GOP, also joins the conversation and discusses a survey that the Idaho GOP put out earlier this week. (7/22/21)
Chairman of the Idaho GOP Tom Luna joined Nate to discuss a survey that the Idaho GOP put out earlier this week. One of the questions on that survey involved whether or not the government should step in and stop employer vaccine mandates. (7/22/21)
Kasper and Chris discuss the recent declaration from Tom Luna, Idaho GOP chairman, sayiong that the party would not be supporting Ammon Bundy's potential run for governor. This begs the question, should the GOP party get to choose who it backs among the potential candidates out the gate like this?
It's Rant and Rave Friday! The Idaho Republican Party released a statement that said that the party won't support Ammon Bundy's race for governor, and doesn't think that he is fit to run. Both Tom Luna, the chairman of the Idaho GOP, and Ammon Bundy joined Nate. What makes a republican republican? Bald Eagles are responsible for killing fifty-four lambs costing the Idaho farmer $7,500. (6/4/21)
Nate interviewed both Idaho GOP chairman Tom Luna and Ammon Bundy about a statement released by the Idaho GOP today that distanced the party from Ammon. (6/4/21)
After Lt. Gov. Janice McGeachin announced that she'll challenge incumbent Gov. Brad Little for Idaho governor in 2022, the chairman of the Idaho GOP says it'll be a "very dynamic" primary next May. Five people died following the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 and on Wednesday night, only 35 House Republicans voted in favor of a commission to investigate what happened. Idaho Rep. Mike Simpson was one of the 35. Payette County is in the bottom five of Idaho counties' vaccination rates. Locals explain to KTVB why that may be the case.
UPDATE 2:49 p.m. Thursday: Since this was originally published, Rep. Ehlinger resigned from the legislature. The Idaho House Ethics Committee is recommending censure, and possibly expulsion, of Rep. Aaron von Ehlinger after he was accused of raping a 19-year-old statehouse staffer. Idaho Matters learns what could happen next.
The Left has been waging a war against conservatism for decades. It has now come to the point to where conservative ideals are worthy of being censored, cancelled and deplatformed. However, in a surprising turn of events, Kootenai County’s Republican Central Committee is allegedly demanding that their endorsement for Community Library District Trustee censor books based upon ideology. Is the winning strategy for conservatives to censor leftist content?
That big shipment of new COVID-19 vaccines Idaho was looking forward to? It might be in jeopardy after the Federal government dropped the ball. The Idaho GOP has made it clear that there won't be any COVID-19 accommodations inside the Capitol, which is disappointing lawmakers with serious health concerns.
