The story of David and Goliath teaches us how to respond to the giants we face in life that try to intimidate, insult, and paralyze us. In “Courage,” Pastor Dave Gustavsen examines David's response to Goliath. David had a passion for God's fame, confidence in His faithfulness, and a reliance on His power. His victory over Goliath points us to our ultimate hero, Jesus Christ, who defeated death and Satan. With Jesus on our side, we can bravely face our giants. You will love this conversation with Roger and Kathi Lipp about their brand new book, The Accidental Homesteader AND they are giving one away! Be sure to comment on social media, on blog or email me so you can be entered to win because you will want a copy for yourself as well as gifts for friends and family: The Accidental Homesteader: What I've Learned About Chickens, Compost, and Creating Home   Roger and Kathi Lipp had an idea - a big idea - to move from the Silicon Valley to the north woods of California in mid-life and then they "accidentally" became homesteaders and they (mostly!) love it! Hear how they processed their move, and about some of the very real challenges they faced, and how their strong marriage made this a successful venture. Their enthusiasm for learning new things is an inspiration for all of us to learn new things at any age. Their legacy and desire is to continue to care for others as they grow in their love for each other and their neighbors as well as a deepening faith in their God.    So many tips as well as over 20 recipes and inspiration for all of us to grow and change no matter what our age. Highly practical, humorous, and inspirational, The Accidental Homesteader will encourage you to live with more peace, joy, and contentment.     Some gems from our conversation:   When you're following God, it's never boring. Our brains have expanded, and so has our faith. God is our first thought instead of our last resort when a crisis comes up.  Living as a homesteader makes me more grateful and we are living the life we want. If you're homesteading, you're not taking the easy route—it's rewarding but not convenient. When creating your home, loved and lovely is the goal—not perfection.  If you need or want to learn something, there are a million people who want to teach you.  Learning on the job is rewarding in a way we never experienced before and it brings joy.   About Kathi: Kathi Lipp is the Publisher's Weekly bestselling author of 20 books, including An Abundant Place: Daily Retreats for the Woman Who Can't Get Away, Overwhelmed, and Clutter Free.  Along with being a part of the InCourage at Dayspring writing team, she is the host of Clutter Free Academy the Podcast! with Kathi Lipp, Facebook group Clutter Free Academy, and Clutter Free for Life. Hey Friend! All I can say about today's episode is, “WOW!”  Renee Swope joins us to talk about how you can be confident in your parenting journey, whether you're a mom (or dad) who's just starting out or you have grown kids. We tackle how to handle your child's anxiety (oh my gosh…this is SO GOOD!), the importance of saying you're sorry (and why it's never too late), and how to mine for your child's gold (even if your “child” is an adult.)  This episode is longer than usual, but honestly, I could have listened to Renee's wisdom for another hour.  It. Is. That. Good.  And this is one you'll want to make sure you share. (Sidenote: to share, find the three tiny dots beside the podcast cover picture, click on the dots, and you'll see where you can share. Don't forget to rate and review, too!)  xo, Donna   About Renee  Renee Swope is a former executive director and radio co-host with Proverbs 31 Ministries and a writer for (In)Courage (a division of Day Spring). But those who know her well would tell you she is a people-loving, adventure-seeking friend and mom who loves Jesus, her family, and being outside. They might also mention she can be a mess and has been known to take her dog's medicine (accidentally) and call the fire department more than once.  Renee's passion is to encourage and equip women, moms, and girls to overcome self-doubt and live in the fullness of their God-given purpose, gifts, and potential, roles, and relationships—and empower them with courage and confidence to make a difference right where they are, with what they already have.   Listen in to learn more about:  Renee and her experience with writing her new book, A Confident Mom {03:00}  Why do moms struggle with confidence? {08:00}  Why you should apologize to your children {13:00}  You don't need to parent the way you were parented {16:30}   Favorite Quotes :  “It's never too late to say, ‘I'm sorry.” “It's more important to do the right thing than do things right.” Links www.reneeswope.com Renee Swope's Books: The Confident Mom:  Simple Ways to Give Your Child What They Need Most  A Confident Heart: How to Stop Doubting Yourself & Live in the Security of God's Promises   Connect with Donna: For a copy of “15 Things, Jesus Would Say to You if You Met Him for Coffee,” go to www.donnajones.org/blog  Pick up a copy of Donna's book : Seek: A Woman's Guide to Meeting God  https://www.amazon.com/Seek-Womans-Guide-Meeting-God/dp/0800725328/ref=sr_1_2?crid=3QOGM9DLB01MK&keywords=seek+a+womans+guide&qid=1644959052&s=books&sprefix=Seek+a+woman%2Cstripbooks%2C190&sr=1-2 Connect with Donna: Instagram: @donnaajones Website: www.donnajones.org Twitter:@donnajonesspeak Vimeo: @DonnaJones

This week I speak with Theresa Miller. She is a wife, mother of four, and homeschool parent. Weaving words together has been the expressive outlet she has enjoyed from a young age, bringing clarity to life's complexities. Theresa authored Heavenly Glimpses blog from 2009-2014, where she captured glimpses of the extraordinary in the ordinary everyday life of motherhood . She has been published on InCourage, Sally Clarkson's Mom Heart blog, MOPS ezine, and others. She currently writes encouragement for women on social media and manages and writes a blog with three of her sisters. As we looked back at her life over the years it became cathartic to see how God had been truly writing her story all along. Don't we all try to steal the pen away from Him and write a few chapters on our own? I know I have! But He so graciously weaves even those rebellious moments intricately into the kingdom story He has for us. You will see your story in her story, in the beautiful plans God has for our lives even in the midst of difficulty and You will be encouraged!www.dandelionsisters.com. IG @heavenlyglimpsesIG @dandelionsisters4  FB pages: Theresa M. Kristin Strong Blog:ChasingBlueSkies.net Social media: Twitter Facebook Pinterest Instagram A Conversation with Kristen Strong Kristen is one of the sweetest people you will ever meet. She is warm, friendly and unpretentious. As soon as you start talking to her, she feels like an instant friend. As a military wife, Kristen has learned the art of making friends quickly and cultivating those friendships regardless of where military life takes her. In today's show we talk about how she "warp speeds" the friend making process, the challenges that come with being a military wife and why having a teenager has been shocking. Click the play button (at the top of this post) to join our chat or keep reading for some great nuggets of wisdom from Kristen. Kristen writes at ChasingBlueSkies.net and at Incourage.me. She is also a military wife, mother of 3 kids (including twins) and an author of several ebooks. NOTE: New Podcast Post Format! It's my goal to make sure that everything I put online is as ridiculously useful as possible, so I'm going to be sharing all the notes from each episode so those of you who don't enjoy podcasts (what?!) can still get great content. Of course, I don't cover EVERYTHING we talk about in each episode, but I will pull out all the highlights and try to make it as accessible to you as possible. If there is anything I can do to make the content more actionable for you, don't hesitate to let me know. Quick announcement: My friend Sally Clarkson is hosting her annual MomHeart Conference in three different locations around the country. If you're looking for a mom's weekend away where you'll get inspired and encouraged, this is a "can't miss" event. I've gone every year since I first heard about it and I'm always so blessed. I'll be attending the Dallas event, I'd love to connect if you plan to be there as well. Click here for all the info on MomHeart. Today's Wisdom Being a Military Wife Military wives are heroes. Pure and simple. Their spouses aren't the only ones who sacrifice and serve. A few months ago I (Kat) was talking to the young man who carried out my groceries at the store. He told me what his plans were after high school and in the middle of his monologue he said this, "I thought about joining the military, but I love my freedom too much." The irony and weight of that statement made the rest of his story a blur. The fact is, those who serve in the military and their spouses are quite literally surrendering their freedom to give us ours. They surrender the freedom of choosing where they will live. They surrender the freedom of deciding how often they will be together. They surrender the freedom of choosing safety and comfort. So to all of you out there who are in the military or married to someone in the military...thank you. Cultivating community Military wives create community in warp speed. They don't have the luxury of having years and years to make friends. Kristin has learned the value of and being brave and valuing the possibility of connection over the fear of rejection. She challenges us to make the most of our relationships by "being brave, being vulnerable and making the first move." Click to Tweet: "How to create community: Be brave. Be vulnerable. Make the first move." - Kristin Strong Hope for the teenage years Kristin encourages us that the teenage years have been unexpectedly fun. Most of us have heard horror stories about the teenage years, but Kristin shares why they've been a wonderfully pleasant surprise for her. We discuss that one powerful way to make the teenage years a positive time is to consistently have "face time" with our kids now in the early years. Sowing our attention into them now is likely going to bring a harvest of them valuing our attention and opinion later. Quick Links 1. Kristen's eBook for Military Wives - Serving You: 31 Days of Encouragement for the Military Wife 2. Kristen's new ebook - The Way Jesus Sees You 3. Love the song in the podcast outro? It's called God Day. It's by Jen Stanbro and you can get it on iTunes by clicking here and check out Jen's site by clicking here. Take Action Now I have two challenges for you to choose from today:1. Create community - in the next 5 minutes, email, text or call someone and invite them to lunch. Be brave.2. Plan "face time" with your children - Today, put some one on one time with each child on the calendar. Plan a date or just a walk around the block. Did you take the challenge? Tell us in the comments and inspire someone today! How to Listen to This Podcast If you're new to podcasts, think of them like little radio shows that you can listen to at your convenience.
