Today, we sit down with Kallie Fell, the executive director of the Center for Bioethics and Culture Network, to talk about bioethics (or lack thereof) in the assisted reproduction industry. We talk about everything from the lack of long-term health tracking for surrogate mothers and egg sellers to the predatory, exploitative marketing that encourages and exploits these women into selling their DNA and bodies. Kallie tells us about the lack of research into the health effects of IVF and surrogacy and how the little research we have doesn't exactly paint the fertility industry in a positive light. We also discuss some other countries that have banned surrogacy to varying degrees and how we would like to see the United States follow suit in order to protect moms and babies. Cath and I also speak about;   -How the Choir went from being a handful of people in Canberra to locations around Australia -Why the Choir is about what we do as spouses rather than what our military partners do at work -How the Choir creates a safe space for spouses and why all singing abilities are welcome -Why the Choir isn't about rank or service with the main focus on connection and social inclusion -Where to get involved and the types of songs they sing *hint, hint the Choir is far from boring when it comes to song choice; think Tay Tay and Bruno Mars.   To find out how you can join your local AMW Choir or to find out more about the AMW Choir, click through to the website for details https://www.amwchoir.com/

Craigo brings his dad charm and cult experience to break down exactly how this well-intentioned drug rehabilitation program spiraled into a full-on '70s compound complete with paranoia, hypocrisy, and some very strange hairstyling choices. This "classic cult" discussion may not be typical SLAC fodder, but the story is actually more relevant than ever. The Scuttlebutt: Understanding Military Culture

When one half of a couple joins the military, the other does also, in a sense, by default. There can be a sense of abandonment, as well as a troubling intimation that the military will always come first. Military spouse Simone Gorrindo joins us to talk about her experience as captured in The Wives: A Memoir. Her book is an intimate and evocative account of the challenges that come with her husband's deployment. Initially resistant to the idea of military life, Gorrindo stuck with her boyfriend, Andrew, when he decided to join the Army. That meant leaving a vibrant life in Manhattan to a rented house near Fort Benning. In time, Andrew left with a special operations unit in Afghanistan. Gorrindo, who holds a master's degree in journalism and has a background in editing, felt the constraints of her new role. She found military culture to be one of dependency which, along with the oppressive heat of Georgia, the mundane routine of her days, and the abandonment of her professional life in New York City surrounded her in a curtain of isolation. Her company consisted primarily of other military wives, each dealing with the challenges of their husbands' deployments. These women, thrown together by circumstance, navigated a life filled with uncertainty, emotional strain, and the need for resilience. The uncertainty, anxiety, dependency all recalled Simone's childhood, one dominated by her mother's alcoholism. The sense of longing and stability, the desire for connection, pervades her account. Her own background flooded the foreground as she progresses in her pregnancy. Each deployment felt like a betrayal. The adrenaline and purpose that guided Andrew's life were absent in hers. As an Army wife, Simone was expected to be compliant and accommodating. The gulf between her and Andrew widened. Yet, Simone knew her job was to maintain the household and construct a sort of family stability, even as the Army spun plans of its own, of which she was left entirely unaware. When Andrew returned from a deployment, he had changed. But, she had changed also. In detailing her story with courageous candor, Simone Gorrindo gives us a opportunity to talk about the dilemmas and difficulties faced by military spouses. It sheds light on the emotional labor, the sense of isolation, and the resilience required to navigate life in the shadow of military deployment. Through her personal narrative, Gorrindo gives voice to the collective experiences of military wives, arguing for the recognition of their strength and the importance of their own transformations. In this inspiring episode, we delve into the lives of two military wives who have masterfully navigated the challenges of building a top-tier real estate team in the United States. Their journey is a testament to the power of choosing multiple streams of income that prioritize time freedom and flexibility, allowing them to balance their professional ambitions with personal commitments.A key focus of their strategy involves setting clear non-negotiables each week, such as dedicated family time, strategic growth opportunities, and maintaining health. This disciplined approach ensures that they never lose sight of what's truly important in their lives, despite the demands of a bustling real estate career. The duo also emphasizes the importance of having a structured approach to their daily work. This structure is not restrictive; rather, it is the very foundation that grants them the flexibility they need to juggle various aspects of their lives effectively. They believe that this balance is crucial for sustained success and well-being.At the heart of their success story is a fundamental belief: true success in real estate comes not from relentlessly chasing transactions, but from building and nurturing relationships. They view each client interaction as an opportunity to connect on a deeper level, fostering trust and rapport that often extends beyond the realm of business. This relationship-first approach has not only fueled their business growth but has also brought a more fulfilling and balanced approach to their professional lives.Special Guests: Tiffany Klusacek and Ashlee JankovichGo to BeyondTheRut.com/capsho for your free 14-day trial and see for yourself. Together, they founded VETS, an organization that provides psychedelic therapy and support for veterans struggling with mental health issues. In this episode of Behind The Seen, Amber and Marcus Capone share their journey of overcoming trauma and finding healing through psychedelic therapy. They discuss the challenges they faced in their relationship and the impact of Marcus's military service on his mental health. They explain how they discovered the potential benefits of psychedelics for treating trauma and the transformative effects it had on Marcus's well-being. The couple also discusses the importance of community support and the need for more research and access to psychedelic therapy for veterans.KEY TAKEAWAYSPsychedelic therapy can be a powerful tool for healing trauma and improving mental health. The default mode network in the brain, which is associated with the ego and self-identity, can be quieted by psychedelics, allowing for new perspectives and healing.Psychedelic therapy should be done under the guidance of trained professionals and with proper integration and support.Veterans and their families can benefit from community support and access to alternative therapies like psychedelics.More research and funding are needed to expand access to psychedelic therapy for veterans and improve mental health care.HIGHLIGHT QUOTES"Psychedelics are medicines that were abused as recreational drugs, not recreational drugs turned into medicine." - Amber Capone"Psychedelics get to the root cause of the issue and help establish new neuronal connections in the brain." - Marcus Capone"Psychedelics are a tool, not a magic bullet. They require proper guidance, integration, and therapy for optimal results." - Amber Capone"We have to leave the country to get meaningful solutions to healthcare. Suzi helps moms to become knowledgable and aware of signs of depression and anxiety in their kids, that could lead to suicide ideation and occurence. I wanted to provide a trigger warning in these show notes that we discuss a wide range of topics in this conversation, including suicide, anxiety, and despression. Powerfully, Suzi is on a mission to provide education, tools, resources, support, and so much more for the families and the individuals in the armed services. The Founder of Badass Warrior Moms and the Suicide Prevention Project, as well as being cerftied and trained in Neurolinguistic Programming, Hypnotherapy, and EFT Tapping, Suzi is living her life “at cause”, looking to prevent problems and issues before they start.   With 1 of her 5 children in the armed forces, and another as a police officer, Suzi began her journey when she started to realize the levels of depression and anxiety in the communities surrounding her sons in the military and police. Suzi didn't want to start this type of mission because she had to, she wanted to be proactive in helping others realize that suicide should not be considered as an option. And her purpose and mission are fueling every step of her journey, knowing that quitting this path isn't an option, because she can't quit on those who need her. It's a moving and informative conversation, and Suzi welcomes anyone who is listening and would like to chat further, to reach out - see her Community phone number below.    Listen in for the following:   Introduction to the SAD Reduction Method and some of Suzi's top tips for reducing stress and anxiety. I am wife to my hunky, husband Brett, and a mother to my wild-n-crazy three boys (yes, my hands are full!). I am mostly known for my passion for pelvic floor dysfunction and teaching women how to find vaginal healthy products at Target (yes, I have a video on YouTube on this). People often refer to me as “The Crazy Pelvic Lady”, “Personal Trainer for Vagina” or “The Vagina Whisperer”.I love serving the world by helping women realize there is hope with pelvic floor issues like peeing your pants, pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic pain and pain with intercourse.I work with people who are having pelvic floor dysfunction symptoms: leaking urine/feces, pelvic organ prolapse, low back pain, hip pain, pelvic pain, lower abdominal pain, pelvic pain with intercourse/speculum exam or inserting a tampon.I am a true believer that life happens for us, not to us. In 2008, I started leaking urine while training for half marathons. Then in 2009 I developed pelvic pain which led me down this wonderful path of pelvic health. I have been scared and ashamed of my symptoms and learned how to overcome them. Then in 2013, 2015 and 2017, after the births of each of my children (all c-sections), I had pelvic organ prolapse. I began feeling pressure in my vaginal canal with prolonged standing or right before I had a bowel movement. I worked really hard to improve my pelvic floor muscle strength and coordination to continue to work out and stay healthy for myself and my family. After many different paths of pelvic floor dysfunction, I feel I can relate to women and love being their accountability partner.CONNECT WITH DR. Success is not a dollar amount. It is being able to show my children what good feels like. Everything I've done over the last 6 years shows them that serving others is so much better than serving yourself. -Krista S. Anderson Sacrifice. Loneliness. Fear and pride. These are four words that come to mind when I think of what it must be like to be a military spouse. Now, let's increase the stress and imagine what it must be like to be the wife of a U.S. Army Special Forces soldier. This is a woman who doesn't even know where her husband is, what kind of danger he is in, or if he will live to see another day. In 2013, Krista S. Anderson's greatest fear became a reality when her husband, Staff Sergeant Michael Simpson was killed in Afghanistan. The mother of two small children, Krista co-founded The Unquiet Professional, a non-profit that provides healthy and empowering opportunities to surviving families. She is the Gold Star Liaison for the Green Beret Foundation and a member of numerous boards. Now the wife of active duty Green Beret Master Sergeant Gus Anderson, Krista is the Military Spouse Ambassador for Army Emergency Relief and the 2018 Armed Forces Insurance Military Spouse of the Year. Krista is the co-author of Her Ruck: Inside the Emotional Backpacks of Military Wives, due to be published in May 2020. In this interview, Krista shares what the last 6 years have been like for her, including the wisdom she has learned along the way. “I want military spouses to thrive, not just to survive. Every separation, every loss matters.“ @BWME   #storybehindhersuccess    #16LifeLessons    #mydoveproductions
