The episode concludes with encouragement to open the door to honest prayer and a prayer for you, the listener.TakeawaysHonest prayer is an ongoing conversation with God, where we share and receive, even when we don't have words.God wants us to pour out our hearts to Him and be honest about our struggles and doubts.Barriers to honest prayer include feeling like prayers are too small or selfish, doubting the effectiveness of prayer, and judging ourselves for our emotions.Prayer doesn't have to be long or eloquent; short and honest prayers are powerful.Opening the door to honest prayer allows us to experience God's presence, compassion, and love.--Get your copy of 100 Days of Strength in Any Struggle wherever books are sold, and find a FREE sampler from the book at incourage.me/strength!Connect with (in)courage: Facebook & Instagram for daily encouragement, videos, and more! He took all our weakness, sin, and failure upon His flawless self. Rather than setting goals for more podcast downloads or outlining a grand plan for new ministry directives, I feel God calling us to listen, wait, watch. Abide deeply with Jesus and watch expectantly for how He will lead and what He will accomplish in and through us.  So for 2024, let's choose to let go of expectations and lean into expectancy.   Let's shift from asking, "What will I do this year?" to "Lord, what kind of fruit will You bear?"  Whether you are new to reading (or listening) to (in)courage, or you've been with us since 2009, we are SO glad you're part of this community! Our heart is to serve you well with our daily devotions, weekday podcast, books, Bible studies, and Instagram encouragement. Why? Because we love Jesus -- and we know you do too -- and we want to remember together WHO He is, see HOW He is working in our lives, and learn WHAT it looks like to become more like Him.  I am so expectant for the ways the Lord is going to shape us, grow us, and guide us this year. That is so good and beautiful and necessary. But at its core, encouragement stems from the basic acknowledgment that every person deserves to be seen, valued, accepted. "So often in life, goodness sprouts up from things we would never choose. Think back on your own life and the circumstances you would never choose . . . can you see the beauty? Can you see the goodness that came from that job you didn't get or that relationship that started out on a rocky foot? Can you see the blessing that sprouted from that difficult diagnosis or cross-country move or brutal season in parenting?  We serve a God who is in the life-long business of turning ashes into beauty, weakness into strength, death into life!"Leave a comment for Becky: https://incourage.me/?p=234855--It's always a great day when a little Hope & Encouragement comes your way. . . especially during National Day of Encouragement, coming up next week! THIS MONTH'S PRAYER GUIDE: Praying God's Word for Your Child's Anxiety To kick off our conversation about anxious kids this month, I dug all the way back in the archives of the Million Praying Moms podcast to episode #21, where we interviewed author, podcaster, and counselor, Sissy Goff about her new book at that time called Raising Worry Free Girls. Since that time, Sissy has released several more books on this topic. I'm going to list them all in the show notes for you so you can get your hands on them... but as I tried to plan for this season, I just couldn't think of anyone else I'd rather have share with you on this topic, so I decided to clean up the older episode a bit and share it again today. For those of you who are new around here, the extra voice you'll hear is that of my previous ministry partner and cohost, Erin Mohring. In this episode, Sissy walks us through what she's learned from spending the last 30 years helping girls and their parents find confidence in who they are and hope in who God is making them to be, both as individuals and families. You won't want to miss this episode! *********** Today's show is brought to you by our newest Prayer Guide, Praying God's Word for Your Child's Anxiety, by Becky Keife. Pray for God to work in your children's hearts to: Learn to recognize anxiety for what it is... Keep their eyes on Jesus... Find sure footing that withstands the storm... Know who they are in Christ... Let go of the need to control... And gain compassion, understanding, and the ability to find peace for your own heart. With biblical teaching on anxiety, and scripture-inspired prayers this digital prayer guide is perfect for the busy mom who needs God to move in the hearts of her kids. Anxiety is at an all time high in our teenagers. One study found that the number of girls who often felt nervous, worried or fearful jumped by 55 percent over a five-year period. And while anxiety might look different in boys, it is still very much there. Our children are experiencing an all out war for their peace. An epidemic of anxiety. I don't know all of the reasons it seems so much more prevalent now than it did when I was growing up, but I do know that our children need us to pray for them in this specific, challenging area. All this month we'll be diving into the topic of anxiety in our children: Tomorrow (9/5) Sissy Goff will join us to talk about anxiety in girls. On September 12th, Dr. Gregory Jantz will join us to talk about anxiety in boys. September 19th Becky Keife will talk to us about building a bridge between parents and anxious children. And on September 26th, Lauren Gaines will remind us that God put us here, and gave us these children, for such a time as this.  Mark your calendars now for this important season! *********** Today's show is brought to you by our newest Prayer Guide, Praying God's Word for Your Child's Anxiety, by Becky Keife. Kind words are like honey—     sweet to the soul and healthy for the body. Proverbs 16:24"I had braced myself for a stranger's rebuke — parenting in public in the little years made me sweat with anxiety. But instead of judgment, I was met with the kindness of simple encouragement. All I could do was whisper thank you. She gave me a knowing nod and entered the library as I followed my sons — my back a bit straighter, my steps a bit lighter. A small, unexpected thank you from a stranger. A word to make someone feel seen. Is there an easier gift of kindness to give?"Leave a comment for Becky: https://incourage.me/?p=234030 --Plan out your next year of Bible studies with the (in)courage Create in Me a Heart of study collection! "Here's the wild thing about hope: it doesn't require concrete proof – just belief in what's possible. I think about the times in my life when it feels hardest to hope… When anxiety weighs heavy, when bills stack up, when the injustices of the world scream loud -- hope can feel impossible, even foolish. As adults, we are trained to look at the evidence. We are told to trust logic and statistics more than things like passion and intuition. But when we focus only on what can be seen – like numbers on a scoreboard – we miss out on the wild goodness, beauty, and possibility of what is unseen. Hope helps us fix our eyes and hearts on that which is beyond mere calculation or reasoning."Leave a comment for Becky: https://incourage.me/?p=234074--Dive Into God's Word with Summer Soul Care Resources! Admitting you struggle with anxiety is hard—especially in Christian circles.  Oftentimes, people give cliche answers like “trust God” and “pray more.”  But the Bible doesn't tell us to hide our anxiety, rather we are reminded to cast our worries upon Jesus. (1 Peter 5:7) In Episode 56, we continue our  4-part series titled: Anxiety, Depression, Grief, and Keeping the Faith. In this episode, we discuss anxiety candidly with Becky Keife. Becky is an author, speaker, Bible teacher, mom of three loud boys, and the Community and Editorial Manager for (in)courage.  To find out more about Becky and her books and Bible studies visit www.beckykeife.com Full Spectrum Parent is a part of the Christian Parenting Podcast Network.
