POPULARITY
We are taking a small detour from our usual book group structure to look at some of the pop culture going on around us. And of course: we share related books! As we always do: grab your book, grab a beverage, and maybe get your streaming subscription warmed up because you are going to want to see this! Today we are chatting about the very popular TV series: The Mandalorian. Even if you have never seen this, you have almost certainly seen one of the stars of this show: Baby Yoda! And of course, for Star Wars purists, it would be heresy to call him by this factually incorrect name. In Season One, he was referred to as The Child; and in Season Two we do learn his name: Grogu [pronounced Grow-Goo] And this is part of the Star Wars universe, building on the space opera of those stories. So, what is a space opera? Wikipedia says:“Space opera is a subgenre of science fiction that emphasizes space warfare, melodramatic adventure, interplanetary battles, chivalric romance, and risk-taking.”
Welcome to Season Three of What Would Danbury Do... All Bridgerton. All the time. In Season One, Rudi, Adele, and Kate took you through the original eight, the O.G. alphabetically named siblings, the Bridgertons from Anthony to Hyacinth. In Season Two, we worked through the Happily Ever After Second Epilogues. Originally, these second epilogues were published separately, but it turns out that these epilogues are now included in the original novels, so if you’ve come to the Bridgertons later, this might have been confusing! These episodes are available via our website, www.bridgertonpod.com or wherever you get your podcasts, so you can catch up there! This season, we take it from the page to the screen and swan dive into Bridgerton on Netflix. We’ll be breaking down the episodes, talking to experts, and opining wildly about everything from fashion to fornication. Here are the books we talk about in this episode: - The Duke Heist by Erica Ridley - Talk Me Down by Victoria Dahl (*note: we call this Hold Me Down in the episode) - Shadowfae by Erica Hayes - Flowers from the Storm by Laura Kinsale - Moby Dick by Herman Melville - The Reluctant Royals by Alyssa Cole This episode is brought to you by Erica Ridley’s latest novel The Duke Heist, part of her Wild Wynchester series. You can find out more information on Erica’s website, ericaridley.com and listen to a sneak preview of the audiobook at the end of this episode. Meet the thoroughly forgettable Chloe Wynchester just as everything in her plans go horribly, horribly awry (the best kind of introduction!). Don’t forget you can find us on twitter and facebook @bridgertonpod and instagram @wwddpod and join the conversation using the hashtag #WWDDpod. You can also leave us a rating or review on your favourite podcast provider. Doing so guarantees that you become at least 15% more likely to marry a reformed rake. This episode was recorded on the traditional and unceded land of the Gadigal, Wurundjeri and Boonwurrung people and edited by Rudi Bremer on Gadigal country.

I love speaking with Scotty Dicks. In Season One of YXE Underground, Scotty appeared on the podcast to talk about his work in growing Saskatoon's culinary scene. A wonderful chef who loves collaborating, Scotty worked with different restaurants and pubs in the city developing their menus while teaching classes at The Local Kitchen and running his own catering company. He was influential in educating our community where our food was coming from and why that was important to know. At the end of that episode, Scotty revealed he was ready to get back in the kitchen and was set to open a new restaurant called Odla. In the span of a few years, it has become a staple in Saskatoon's culinary scene and has garnered national attention. Scotty and his team were really hitting their stride when Covid-19 arrived in Saskatoon. In the span of a few days, everything at the restaurant changed. The menu was revamped, a website was created and Scotty was suddenly left wondering what the future had in store. What you will hear in this episode is Scotty telling the story of the last ten months at Odla, and what I really love about our conversation is how his leadership style and character comes through as clear as the distinct flavours in his cooking. I was expecting a bit of doom and gloom from Scotty when recapping his pandemic experience. Instead, I left our conversation inspired and thinking that his leadership style could be applied to so many different businesses and organizations. What you will also hear are some wonderful sounds from Odla's kitchen on a Saturday night. Seriously, it was so much fun spending an hour with Scotty and his team gathering sound and watching them in action. I was so pumped up after my time in the kitchen and all I did was hold a microphone!I want to thank Scotty, Lacey Sellinger and the entire Odla team for allowing me some really great access to produce this episode. I hope you can hear the joy because it was so much to make.A big thank you to Rob Rongve and his team at Rongve Wealth Management Group at RBC Dominion Securities in North Battleford for sponsoring this episode. Rob and his team have been managing my money for nearly a decade and they are wonderful to work with! Thanks for believing in the podcast, Rob. Thank you for supporting YXE Underground and for supporting local restaurants like Odla. Stay safe and keep washing your hands!Cheers...Eric

In Season One we focused on reminding people they are not alone in their journey learning to live with mental illness depression, and anxiety. Within 43 episodes we heard from various individuals as they told their own personnel story and shared their experiences and advice. In Season Two we've changed the format up a little with a focus on "It's Ok to Be You" as well as continuing our discussion from Season One.
Welcome to Season Two of What Would Danbury Do... a podcast about Julia Quinn’s iconic family, the Bridgertons. In Season One, Rudi, Adele, and Kate took you through the original eight, the O.G. alphabetically named siblings, the Bridgertons from Anthony to Hyacinth. These episodes are available via our website, www.bridgertonpod.com or wherever you get your podcasts. We recommend you go and check them out! The plan for Season Two was to focus on the Netflix series, but not even the formidable Lady Danbury can mould 2020 into anything resembling order, so instead, we invite you to our revised Season Two: What Would Danbury Do presents - Happily Ever After: The Second epilogues! For reasons none of us can understand (but have everything to do with fan service), Julia Quinn wrote second epilogues for each of the eight original Bridgerton titles, and one bonus Violet story, and this season we will read and discuss all of them so you don’t have to. Look for episode one coming in September. In the meantime… for no reason other than we all deserve some extra joy in our lives, stick around for a very special, very Australian episode of WWWDD pod. Don’t forget you can find us on twitter, instagram and facebook @bridgertonpod - and join the conversation using the hashtag #WWDDpod This episode was recorded on the traditional and unceded land of the Gadigal, Wurundjeri and Boonwurrung people and edited by Rudi Bremer on Gadigal country.

We all want more happiness. But what if our brains lie to us about how to get there? Psychologist Dr. Laurie Santos, whose Yale course “Psychology and the Good Life,” is the most popular class ever offered in the history of the university, illuminates what science says about what makes us happy and also how to put effective happiness strategies into practice. But not everyone can enroll in Santos’ class at Yale or has the time to take the online equivalent on Coursera. In Season One of THE HAPPINESS LAB, Dr. Laurie Santos explores startling truths and explodes myths about what makes us happy in ten exhilarating and informative episodes. Examining questions such as: will a new job or relationship make us happy, are we happier when we have unlimited choice and how can we harness technology to improve our well-being. Through surprising interviews with the likes of David Byrne, Michelle Kwan and Michael Phelps’s coach, along with in-depth storytelling and the science to back it up, Santos explores how our minds lie to us about our feelings of contentment and teaches listeners how to find more effective ways to become happier. About The Guest: Laurie Santos is a Professor of Psychology and the Head of Silliman College at Yale University. After observing a disturbing level of unhappiness and anxiety among her students, she began teaching a course entitled "Psychology and the Good Life," which quickly became the most popular course in Yale's history and has also reached over 350,000 people from all over the world through it’s online version. Although she’s now best known as a "happiness expert,” Santos's research explores the much broader question of "What makes the human mind unique?" and often includes comparing the cognitive capacities of non-human animals to humans. Prowess: Stories Of Leaders Who Have An Edge with Ashley Crouch
Positioning is key to creating an iconic brand. No one is more of an expert on how to build an iconic brand than Ali Brown. Are you an entrepreneur who isn’t quite sure how to “position” your business? Or maybe you aren’t sure exactly how your business reached the position it is in, but are also realizing that your ideal clients aren’t noticing you within the crowd? Ready to grab, or reestablish, your business’ position so you can emerge and stand out as a powerhouse extraordinaire of your industry? In Season One, Episode Two of the Prowess Podcast, Ashley interviews Ali Brown, noteworthy business coach for women entrepreneurs, who is also a dedicated catalyst for women in leadership. You don’t want to miss this episode as Ashley and Ali burrow into the nitty-gritty details of positioning your brand in a saturated market and how your authenticity will guide you toward being a stand-out leader. Ready to learn more? Tune in now! Make sure you listen carefully during minutes twelve through fourteen as Ali delves into the importance of strategic positioning versus your social media and public reach. As Ali says, positioning is more than just visibility, and you should want to draw people to you because of who you are and what you stand for. Her passion and vexing expertise shine through as she speaks about this topic and you don’t miss it. Your key takeaways from this episode are: Don’t confuse posturing with positioning. Posturing is artificial and meant to impress, rather than delivering the true essence of yourself and what you stand for. Positioning is being strategic with your message’s delivery and standing for what you believe in. Also, it prepares you to attract your ideal clients naturally and therefore, positioning creates alignment. Positioning doesn’t make you elitist, exclusive, or unlikeable, so don’t be scared to claim your space. Many women are afraid to make bold, provocative statements but you shouldn’t be scared to state your opinion. It may feel like you are sabotaging yourself, but your bravery will get you noticed. You should care less about “likes” and more about impact. Don’t focus more on social media than necessary. In-person networking, events, and genuine business relationships are just as important and often skipped or dismissed. Want to learn more? Join Ashley in her free community, Media Masters, where she shares regular training for ongoing support to position yourself as a power player in your industry.

Iceland has a lot of weird traditional foods, but nothing compares to fermented shark meat. The family at Bjarnarhöfn has been hunting and fermenting shark meat for nearly 400 years, although today they only process bycatch Greenland sharks. Many years ago, the family opened a Shark Museum at the farm to share their traditions and introduce the world to “hákarl”. In this episode, I get an inside look at how one family continues this traditional method of de-toxifying shark meat while sharing their craft with anyone who’s brave enough to take a bite. On January 23, 1973, residents of the island town Vestmannaeyjar in Iceland were woken from sleep by the sounds of a huge fissure ripping open the earth. Enterprise Season One: Making New Friends. How do you know when you may be in over your head? In Season One, it didn't take long for the NX-01 crew to find themselves exposed to situations and troubles they had never considered. Simple acts like visiting a monastery, exploring a pre-warp society, or simply saying "Hello!" quickly showed the crew that they may not be as prepared for the unknown as they thought. In this episode of Warp Five, hosts Floyd Dorsey and Jeffrey Harlan are joined by Norman C. Lao as they cover the themes found in the second quarter of Enterprise's freshman season. Listen in as they talk about what happens when you step in the middle of a centuries-old political argument, finally find an inhabited M-class planet, try to bring some order to the frontier, and find out the guy who brings you your eggs actually knows a whole lot more about you than you thought. In Season One's fifth episode, Never Kill A Boy On The First Date, Buffy tries to uphold her duty as The Slayer while dating a dull, stale loaf of bread named Owen. Meanwhile, The Master begins his plans to open a Day Care Center for the Wayward Youth of Sunnydale. Is there enough room in Buffy's life for school, slaying and the occasional post-pubescent fantasy? Join me in this commentary and find out. If we're lucky, Angel might even show up to brood at Buffy while wearing some more cool clothes. Buy: Buffy on DVD at Amazon.com!
