Martin is a musician, a podcaster, a player of games, so he is ideal for all this! If you would like to listen along to the music, you'll want to start with this advert composed by Robert Farnon. Then visit this lovely Autumn Song by Tove Jansson and Erna Tauro. Henry Kathman's translation and cover of Snufkin's Spring Song can be found here. The video essay Dave was referring to is here. Finally, wrap your ears around the not unchallenging Moomin Voices album. Martin's Spirit of the Moomins is The Wind by Fil Corbitt. His Spirit of the Podgoblin's Hat is Noah Caldwell-Gervais. You can find his own music at Pale Bird. His podcasts are Song by Song and Neutrino Watch.

This week, Nina is reading the Exploits of Moominpappa and Dave is reading the Memoirs of Moominpappa. Our theme for these books is Memoir. This episode is all about unreliable narrators, self mythologising and the fundamental mystery of our parents. Moominpappa has finally finished his memoirs and is reading them out to the children. Did he really build a Moomin house, or did he just draw it? How much of this story is true? We have a question for Snufkin from upcoming guest Martin Zaltz Austwick, who you can find here. Our Spirits of the Moomins are both memoirs: Fun Home by Alison Bechdel and When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit by Judith Kerr. Dave's spirit of the Podgoblin's Hat is Down to a Sunless Sea.

Happy 300th Flixwatcher! In this special birthday episode Sam Pay and Martin Zaltz Austwick from Song by Song join Flixwatcher to review Helen's choice The Irishman. The Irishman is a 2019 Martin Scorsese film, based on the non-fiction book I Heard You Paint Houses by Charles Brandt, it tells the story of Frank "The Irishman" Sheeran a truck driver who becomes a hitman for the mob. Robert De Niro stars as Frank Sheeran, Joe Pesci stars as Russell Bufalino, the crime boss of the Bufalino mafia and counsel to Jimmy Hoffa, played by Al Pacino. Ray Romano, Bobby Cannavale, Anna Paquin, Stephen Graham and Harvey Keitel also star in supporting roles. The Irishman is notable for its 209 minute runtime - three hours and 29 minutes of mob violence and International Brotherhood of Teamsters - labour unions in the US. Recommendability for The Irishman was mixed, despite general consensus that is it a very interesting film, the three hour plus runtime goes against it. Unsurprisingly the repeat viewing scores very quite low and overall The Irishman scores 3.36. Enjoyed Sam and Martin as hosts? Happy 300th Flixwatcher! In this second special birthday episode Sam Pay and Martin Zaltz Austwick from Song by Song join Flixwatcher to review Kobi's choice Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves is a 1991 action adventure film directed by Kevin ‘Waterworld' Reynolds and starring the other Kevin, Kevin Costner as the eponymous Robin. In this retelling of the English folklore Robin of Locksley escapes a prison in Jerusalem with the help of a Moor named Azeem (Morgan Freeman). While Robin has been away the Sheriff of Nottingham (Alan Rickman acting with maximum ham) plots to seize the throne and make the lives of Nottingham miserable. Robin assembles a gang of outlaws to oppose the Sheriff and impress Marion (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio). Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves was a huge hit in 1991, the second-highest-grossing film of the year (Terminator 2: Judgement Day was number one) and Bryan Adams' ‘Everything I Do, I Do It For You spent 16 weeks in the UK number top spot and still holds the record for longest number one single. Scores for recommendability were pretty solid, despite its flaws it is generally quite entertaining, mainly because of Rickman's OTT performance, with slightly lower scores for engagement the overall rating is 3.22. Spoilers be damned, we loved this gay ass film.   We mention the film While You Were Sleeping (1995) (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114924/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1), which was the subject of our previous episode, the TV series Schitt's Creek (2015-2020) (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3526078/), which features Jennifer Robertson as Jocelyn Schitt, and the films Dumplin' (2018) (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4878482/), Hocus Pocus (1993) (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107120/) and Sister Act (1992) (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105417/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1), which all star Kathy Najimi.   Here is the definition of ‘plant gay' in the Urban Dictionary: https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=plant%20gay and their definition of ‘guncle' is here: https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=guncle.   Next month we are planning to watch Sleepless In Seattle.   We record these episodes over the internet. While You Were Sleeping   This month, Lisa and Charles Adrian give themselves an early Christmas present.   While You Were Sleeping Year: 1995 Screenplay by: Daniel G. Sullivan and Fredric Lebow Director: Jon Turtletaub Stars: Sandra Bullock, Bill Pullman, Peter Gallagher   Show notes:   While You Were Sleeping is one of Lisa's favourite films; she has watched it many, many times. Charles Adrian was watching this for, maybe, the third time. It's a great film. We like it so much.   In this episode, we acquit Lucy of the charge of being creepy, investigate the mystery of the missing meet-cute and propose two small changes to raise what is already a perfect rom com to greater perfection. Merry Christmas already.   You can watch the trailer for While You Were Sleeping here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsJxyUvkB_E   Next month we are planning to watch Single All The Way, which is due to be released on Netflix on 2nd December, 2021.   We record these episodes over the internet. Sometimes the audio is not perfect. We apologise for that.   Music in this episode is by Martin Zaltz Austwick (martinzaltzaustwick.com). Artwork is by Lisa Findley.   Thank you for listening!
