"I wanted to do something where I was like, 'Hey, how can I help people stop from being a victim in the first place?'" In this episode I sit down with the Fraud Hero himself Mr. Marc Evans! He details his 13 years of experience in law enforcement, including seven years as a detective specializing in financial and cyber crimes. Evans explains that his motivation for creating Fraud Hero was born from his observation that law enforcement often only gets involved after a crime has occurred, leaving victims to deal with the aftermath. His mission is to provide proactive education and training to businesses, financial institutions, and the public, especially senior citizens, to help them stop scams before they start. He emphasizes the critical need for consistency in employee training to counter the evolving sophistication of transnational criminal networks, which have demonstrated a troubling ability to network and share information to perpetrate increasingly elaborate frauds, often involving significant amounts of money. Watch the episode to hear real life examples of the scams he has encountered, including one that started with an Amazon fraud alert and escalated to a victim physically handing over nearly a million dollars to a fraudulent "federal agent" in a parking lot. He introduces his "scam formula" of hook, story, urgency, payment to help listeners recognize and avoid falling victim to these schemes. He strongly advises people to pause, think, and verify any unexpected contact, especially from alleged authorities, by independently contacting the official agency through a trusted source rather than using provided links or phone numbers. Evans stresses that effective prevention requires continuous education that goes beyond basic, one-time compliance training to address the current tactics used by criminals, such as exploiting cryptocurrency for immediate, untraceable payments.

In the summer of 1819, the whaleship Essex set sail from Nantucket, chasing fortune across the vast and indifferent Pacific. What began as a routine whaling voyage soon veered into a nightmare, however, when the hunted became the hunter, and the ship, until now known as one of the luckiest around, was smashed to splinters, leaving her crew adrift in an ocean without mercy. Their struggle was a descent into fear, hunger, and the raw edge of human endurance that would go on to inspire the story of Moby Dick, though much of the darker elements would be left at sea, where such stories belonged. It's not always easy to participate in a clinical trial. Even if you want to, how do you get the time off from work? Starting in 2025, thanks to the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research, there is a provision called the FMLA Clarification, which essentially states that you can participate without fear of losing your job. In this episode of the FSR Sarc Fighter Podcast, Dr. Ennis James, a sarcoidosis researcher and physician at the Medical University of South Carolina, and Tricha Shivas, Chief of Staff and Strategy at FSR join me to talk about how difficult life can be for patients. Tom Molenaar: When To Stop Helping Agile Teams To Change—A Real Life Story Read the full Show Notes and search through the world's largest audio library on Agile and Scrum directly on the Scrum Master Toolbox Podcast website: http://bit.ly/SMTP_ShowNotes. "Instead of slowing down and meeting the team in their resistance, I started to try and drag them because I saw the vision of the possible improvement, but they did not see it." Tom shares a powerful failure story about a team that didn't feel the urgency to improve their way of working. Despite management wanting the team to become more effective, Tom found himself pushing improvements that the team actively resisted. Instead of slowing down to understand their resistance, he tried to drag them forward, leading to exhaustion and ultimately his decision to leave the assignment. This episode explores the critical lesson that it's not our job to save teams that don't want to be saved, and the importance of recognizing when to step back. Self-reflection Question: When you encounter team resistance to change, how do you distinguish between healthy skepticism that needs addressing and fundamental unwillingness to improve?
