Thank anonymous for $25 donation. Feedback... From Sebastian, on YouTube "Nature poo" issue is nothing unusual. Talking about it is the same as talking about any other of aspect of hiking, at least among hikers. :) Questions from the audience... From @Seb_Mya on Twitter I have some about the walk. 1. Do you like hiking at all? 2. Physical training is important but the real battle will be on a mental level - how will you prepare yourself for that. 3. Do you want to complete the walk no matter what (example: bad weather, injuries)? General Topics... What is the difference between a walk and a hike - talk about how my PT says I should walk the dog and take a hike, as if the two are different. So it seems that hiking and walking often are the same thing, and the best outdoors people have difficulty in drawing the line of when a walk becomes a hike. http://walking.yoexpert.com How has training gone this week? On this weeks show... There is a Geocache 129m away from where I am sat and another 394m away. I've lived in this place, during the week, for the last two years.  Yet I still haven't even attempted to find these Geocaches. Why not? I'm saving them for when I NEED to find them for whatever reason, a streak, a milestone maybe. I'm lazy.  I drive right past both of them on the way to and from work.  Its effort to stop the car and have a look. One is overlooked by a house.  That puts me off instantly. If I'm honest, I'd prefer to explore somewhere new.  I can find these caches anytime. Fundraising... On this weeks show... Geocaching.com news Let’s talk some more about geocache quality I'm discussing the traits of a good Geocacher Log's DNF's - if its really missing, other than regular maintenance checks, this is the best way for the cache owner to find out if there is a potential issue. Carry out on the fly repairs to geocaches - often just replacing the paper, sometimes the container if damaged. Puts the cache back where it was found, not where they think it should go. Move that trackable on, don't just let it sit in the bottom of your gym bag. Contact the show... Website: www.ohbeepgcp.com E-mail: ohbeeppodcast@gmail.com Twitter: @Ohbeepgcp

On this weeks show... I settle the debate on if Geocaching is a game or a sport. The only difference between golf and Geocaching is one has a ball and the other has tupperware (other cache containers are available).  Therefore, Geocaching is a sport. I also examine some of the benefits of Geocaching, specifically the positives of being outdoors in nature: Being outdoors is our best source of vitamin d - which is beneficial to our immune systems. Improved sleep - Here's the link. Sleep patterns > Body Clock > The Suns's schedule. Spending time away from natural light breaks the chain and therefore our sleep patterns. Exercise - The benefits here are obvious. BUT, exercising outdoors - as opposed to a gym - can lead to more energy being exerted. Plus its more enjoyable being outdoors, so you're likely to do it longer. Mental Health - Improved attention span. Boosts serotonins (makes you feel good). Being out in nature increases activity in parts of the brain linked with empathy and emotional stability (urban environments can cause fear and anxiety). #geocachingcreators... On this weeks show... It occurred to me the other day, while I was planning a day out Geocaching, that I actively avoid hide types and series types and vice versa on the caches I will do.  Most notable on this list and why: Won't Do's Little Bridges series - they usually involve a single plank timber bridge over a ditch. That also means the cache is usually underneath the plank. I'm not getting on my hands and knees in the middle of winter weather, especially if its cold and wet. Anything involving water - for obvious reasons. Anything in the woods - spent too many Geocaching trips face down in muddy puddles in the woods for comfort. Any involving steep inclines - Yes, I have slipped on several occasions. Will Do's  Urban hides - Those with no mud Hedgerows - The geocaches are easier to spot in winter Church Micros - Mostly like urban geocaches Any on a cycle route - flat, no mud #geocachingcreators This Is Geocaching by The Downunder Geocaching Adventures of No Tomorrow Contact the show... On this weeks show... There have been lots of changes in technology in the six years since I started Geocaching. In this episode I talk about what has changed in the equipment I use. The answer is surprising. Sebastian (from Twitter) First two months I was using map printouts with a cross marking the spot - true treasure hunt. :) It was before smartphones - Nokia era. StaticJay (Twitter) I still use an entry level gpsr, when I can be bothered. I will be talking about the little things I forgot when I was on my Geocaching hiatus: ICP = Ivy Covered Post.  A cache hide I detest and try to avoid. Geocaching with a big format phone in one hand, a bouncy dog on the end of a lead in the other isn't easy. Oh and don't forget the poo bag. I take it back about the quality of the Geocaches out there now.  I did a series called Get Your Kicks by Bozzer123, that was well maintained, had some inventive caches and was a decent walk for the dog. #geocachingcreators This shows #geocaching creator is Geocaching Gal, who has been live streaming her finds on Twitch.  You can find her on Twitter as @geocachinggal and Twitch as not surprisingly Geocachinggal. Song mention at the start of the conversation Geocaching by MC Binery Miss Watto and I were recently doing a virtual cache in Loughborough (GC7B956 War Memorial #388 - Loughborough Carillon Tower by sixxdoguk). Without giving too much away the cache required us to count the number of letters on the memorial plaques at the cache location.  Mid-way through counting it occurred to me how foolish we must look to anyone passing by.  The technique we both employed was the stand very close to the plaques and run our fingers along the surface to keep track of where we'd counted to. We're both professional people, stood in a part, at a war memorial standing close to a wall counting letters.  There are people I work with who use that park, anyone of them could have observed me. Did this stop either of us?  Not in the slightest.  We were determined to get that find.  Plus we were having a good afternoon caching, making the most of the good weather while it lasted. Scott tells the story of Geocaching under an outdoor cinema screen and a really funny story about Walt Grogan face planting in to a pond. #geocachingcreators Diary of Physicist Farmgirl by Debra Burris Contact the show... Back in October 2013 the GeogearHeads podcast (www.geogearheads.com) did an episode about the History of Podcasting (www.cacheamaniacs.com/ggh-093-history-of-podcasting). This episode featured Rob Walch, from media hosting site Libsyn. Without the above podcast episode there would be no Oh Beep! After hearing it, we had a "we can do that" mentality. To take things full circle. Back in April 2016 DarrylW4 conducted a series of interview with geocaching podcasters. Profiling each one and why they do it. Those profiles were never released to the GGH feed. This episode is the audio from the Oh Beep! session. The hope is that someone hearing this will have a "I can do that" moment and start their own podcast. I think that is is the time to have a good clear out of my old bag and only put into it things which I really need when I'm out geocaching. Intro… StaticJay rant about Moan-A-Lot Moan-A-Lots new FB group https://www.facebook.com/groups/1509075679399447/ Countries we’ve experienced? Before you go - In date passport -  Miss Watto’s ran out before we went to Ireland Do you even need a passport? Think about what you wear when when travelling, it can cause an inconvenience at the airport. Mobile data - after breathing and a passport, the most important thing for most modern travellers.  Jamie got a good deal on his. I used EE add on (#5 per day for 100mb of data)  3 feel at home PAYG 15 quid top up, has went up to 25 I think. But 20GB data good calls and text packge. Need to check country's available. In a previous conversation with DW4 he mentions that in the states you roam to T-Mobile with it and they are shit out of the city. Travel insurance - compare the market sites are ok, but there is a reason that cheapest deal is so cheap. This is one area I won’t skimp on.  I use my bank acc. Most people forget to check if their bank offers this as part of their acc and end up paying for a service that have already paid for. E1 11 form. How much luggage? Can you get away with travelling light; ie, one carry on bag with a few bits of clothing in? Remember who you are travelling with. When I travel with Miss Watto, I know we’ll need to pay the extra for putting luggage in the hold. Be aware of how much you can take, weight restrictions and size restrictions. Consult the locals - It’s an internet world and we’re geocachers, it’s a small but mostly friendly community. Find a FB group for the area you’re visiting and get as much local knowledge as you can.  Not only about Geocaches, but also places to visit, eat, stay etc. Geocaching - Pick out some of the more interesting caches in the place you are going. Pre-load them on to your GPSr - CHECK that the GPSr is working BEFORE you leave home (mine wasn’t). GoPro have linked up with Periscope Be aware of any rules for the place you’re visiting. In Cuba GPSr’s and phones with location trackers are illegal. Ey Up Me Duck Challenge.. 4:25 Hi Mark, So how many of the 12 Challenges did Oh Beep manage to achieve?   How many of the caching resolutions you made last January did you manage? Can you remember what they were?????   The ones below were ours: To find 3000 caches this year - this was hard work and wouldn't have been achievable without (and you won't believe this!!) Moan-a-Lot's help and the rest of Team Compass To try and clear a 10km radius from house - we have done well but too many people putting new caches out!!!! Plus there are numerous puzzles I am still working my way through To clear at least another 60 days from our date found calendar (currently at 242/366). - completed although we still need 2 days to complete every date. One date in Jan and then the elusive Feb 29th To complete and find at least 10 Challenge caches - we have been completing Challenge caches on and off throughout the year - the ones we have mainly focused on though were the 3000 caches in a year and cache everyday for a full year To complete DT grid. Still need: got it down to 4 from 11 to do: 1-4 / 2.5-4.5 / 4-4 / 5-4 - so this is going on our list for this coming year To cache in at least 10 more English counties (currently 31/46) now on 44/46. Complete as only need Dorset & Isle of Wight now Find some Little Quest Caches (currently 1/48) – to get us into double figures at least - now got 10/48. This is good to say we still only had 1 by the beginning of August To find 20 more caches to help go towards completing the Jasmer Challenge (caches placed – months since geocaching began) - (140/176) :  Now got 161/188 To complete caches placed (days). Find any caches in area with favourite points of over 25 - didn't quite manage this. Out of 145 caches with favourites of 25 or over within a 10km radius from home we still need to find 17 of them (some are puzzles :( and a couple are disabled) BUT we have found 128 of them. If you are continuing with challenges this year could listeners send in ideas and you and Sam could chose the one to do????   Happy New Year to you all - hope it's a good one   Denise (and Ady) Challenge Doctor D.. 17:31 Doctor D is challenged to find and log 5 Geocaches by the time we record the next episode. Ey Up Me Duck Challenge..  Find 2 caches with halloween / autumn related words in the title Feedback from Anteus.. Howdy from Texas! I’ve been listening to the show for at least a few months now after hearing it mentioned a few times on some of the geocaching related podcasts from here in the States. I think this Ey Up Me Duck challenge thing is some sort of contest… shoot, I don’t know, I can only understand Mark most of the time, and not a word of what Doctor D says! ;) So I think I’m submitting my entry for October! Here goes: I found two caches with ghost in the title and actually placed one with the word ghoul in it! The first cache I found was GC64MRE, “Ghost Stories: Glow In The Dark Under The Tree” and I was actually FTF! It was about 350 feet away from the posted coordinates but the hint got me to where I needed to be. The other cache was GCB5F0, “Ghost Children” which is a virtual at a local haunted location where the ghosts of the children killed in a collision with a train are said to push cars off of the tracks.  I also placed a cache over the weekend… an idea I sort of got from listening to Geosnippits. I 3D printed a zombie hand and had my wife paint it to look all gruesome… I then placed it outside of a cemetery where it looks to be reaching up out of the dirt with a bison tube stuck on one of its fingers. It’s GC6596A, “The Lost Cemetery of Alexander the Ghoul”. Oh and what the heck does Ey Up Me Duck mean?! Keep up the offensiving! GCG0G7 Lady Chatterley's Cache by BountyHunter1 GC27063 CASTLE ROCK EARTHCACHE - NOTTINGHAM by northking News.. Pay to find a cache Welcome to Morocco GC35436 The cache is in the hands of Ahmed, who wants money for his "services" of showing up, pulling the cache out of his pocket and letting one log. New log sheets are supplied by cachers who take the time and money to cross over from Spain and want to a find a cache in Morocco at all cost. When Ahmed is around it is find, when he is not, it is a DNF. Is this what geocaching is supposed to be about? I don't find this fun at all. Cache owner has not been active since 2011. I think this cache should be archived. I have been watching this cache for 3 years now, and would love to find a cache in Tanger, but I am not willing to pay to a local who stole the cache and makes money out of it. I find this disgusting and geocachers and Groundspeak should not support this! The Legend Of Dawsons Mine: The Serialization Of A Fictional Work by Dave DeBaeremaeker "In a world governed by satellite geolocation technology, and tupperware hidden in the woods, two unsuspecting brothers head off geocaching in the mountains of North Carolina. What they found was more than they ever imagined. The untold mystery of one of the darkest chapters in Appalachian history. This secret, however, is not without its guardians. Will they solve the mystery?  Will they survive the wrath of the guardians?  Will they go to the other side of the road, look behind the guardrail, find the cache, and sign the log? Will they survive the horror that is The Legend Of Dawson's mine? Dumb Stuff Geocachers Do.. Marie Pickard  I had a letter in my name, it was a penalty notice fine for driving in a bus lane! Lucie Melen  I had a thought about that cache in the Peak District which you put a TB in and then found it was archived. Why don't you set up a new cache page, with the same coordinates, and called it something like "*previous cache name* revived", then there's still a cache there and people will still look for it. Obviously, this requires you being frequent enough visitors to check on it. HHH has some feedback regarding our football rant on the last episode of Oh Beep!
