AMDG. Alumni and CVS health general management program developer Charlie Mihaliak steps onto stage to share an inspiring message about the importance of education in the current cultural moment. "What we're facing right now," Charlie declares, "is an idolatry of this farce of limitless freedom as the key to happiness." Charlie reminisces on his own journey to happiness, from his own Kolbe graduation to becoming a business major-- a major he quickly switched, choosing theater as his focus instead. Charlie reflects on the lessons he learned during this chapter of his life; why he considers theatre as "three-dimensional metaphysics"; the challenges facing students today; and why more choices equates to less happiness. Kolbe Chief Operations Officer and grandson of the founders Chris Rowles takes the spotlight next to share an inspiring reflection on the development and growth of Kolbe Academy from its earliest days in the 1980s. "They didn't have the internet to find each other, but somehow they still did," Chris remarks. Chris advocates for Kolbe families and discusses Kolbe's fundraising initiatives aimed at providing accessible education to all. "With your help," Chris adds, "we can ensure that our students are prepared not just academically, but spiritually and morally for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.” To learn more about or contribute to Kolbe Academy's financial assistance program, click here. What obstacles cause you to miss Him when He's right in front of you? How can you put yourself back into the reality that God is sovereign and in control? Quote to Ponder: “The One whom the Father has sent into our hearts, the Spirit of his Son, is truly God. Consubstantial with the Father and the Son, the Spirit is inseparable from them, in both the inner life of the Trinity and his gift of love for the world. In adoring the Holy Trinity, life-giving, consubstantial, and indivisible, the Church's faith also professes the distinction of persons. When the Father sends his Word, he always sends his Breath. In their joint mission, the Son and the Holy Spirit are distinct but inseparable. To be sure, it is Christ who is seen, the visible image of the invisible God, but it is the Spirit who reveals him.” (CCC 689) Scripture for Lectio: “When he was at table with them, he took the bread and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to them. And their eyes were opened and they recognized him; and he vanished out of their sight. They said to each other, “Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the scriptures?” (Luke 24:30-32)

As the final weekend of the Premier League season cemented Man City's fourth successive title, we ask the question, "Was it all down to Stefan Ortega?" The German pulled off a masterclass in "No2ing" in the midweek victory over Tottenham and capped off another impressive campaign since joining the club as a relative unknown on these shores. Elsewhere, Nick Pope returned to action for Newcastle, James Shea made his Premier League bow for Luton, Dean Henderson finished on a high at Crystal Palace and David Raya showed just how good his hands are in Arsenal's defeat of Everton. A quick nod is given to Corey Addai and Jamie Cumming for their play-off triumphs at Crawley and Oxford respectively, while Joe Hart is now just one game away from goalkeeping retirement.
The Premier League season ended for Luton Town on Sunday and fittingly the 90 minutes of the 4-2 defeat to Fulham was very much in keeping with much of the campaign with injuries and poor defending proving to be so costly - but with fan reaction like no other. Kev is joined by The Lutonian journalist James Cunliffe to look back on an entertaining and, in many ways, special final day as they reflect on the game itself and the wonderful scenes after the final whistle. The boys pay tribute to a couple of key performers over the game and the season and send their best wishes to two great people who are retiring after the season. Hear reaction interviews with manager Rob Edwards, captain Carlton Morris, history maker Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu, the man whose goal helped secure Premier League football, Jordan Clark, and the player who tasted Premier League football for the first time in James Shea. The Maccabean Revolt presented the Jewish people with a difficult choice: conform or face persecution. Christians today may feel a similar cultural pressure to compromise their beliefs. In this discussion, Jeff Cavins and Monsignor James Shea examine the heroic resistance of Jews who refused to conform during the Maccabean Revolt. They encourage contemporary Christians to find inspiration from these historical examples as they consider how to stand firm in their faith despite societal pressures. What is the real reason behind the increase in loneliness and anxiety? There is almost an inability, in our world today, to cope with life. You understand how difficult it is to function after a sleepless night, how hard it is to be kind, understanding and loving when you are exhausted, how frustrating it is to be tired and unable to do your best. Please intercede for us before the throne of God and ask that if it be His will, they may be able to sleep at night and no longer suffer from insomnia. If it is not God's will at this time, we ask for the grace to use any sleepless hours as a time of prayer, offering that sleeplessness for the souls who most need God's love and mercy. ***** Msgr. AMDG. Our Catholic identity puts us in touch with the deepest questions and truths of our existence, particularly the truth that every single human being is formed in the image and likeness of God. Kolbe alumnus and current Arizona State University professor Adam Seagrave, Ph.D—a graduate of Notre Dame and Thomas Aquinas College—joins Bonnie and Steven today to discuss his expertise in race and American history. Dr. Seagrave describes how the struggle to abolish slavery and overcome racism are an important and illuminating key factor in understanding what it means to be an American; how there has been a change from problematic neglect of history to problematic ways of teaching history in recent times; and how a Catholic understanding of the dynamic between fall and redemption provides resources to process past injustices. Also listen for his take on critical race theory, W.E.B. Du Bois' connection with the classics, and advice for hesitant parents.
