There have been many moving moments around the late Jarrod Lyle on ITR and today we add to that list with a great and frank chat with his wife, Briony Lyle. As the launch of Jarrod’s book nears, host Andy Maher turns the mic on co-hosts and joint authors of that book, Mark Hayes and Martin Blake, who along with Briony share some funny and emotional insights into the book’s inner workings. We also turn the spotlight on the Open Championship, the enormous success that it was for not only Shane Lowry, but Northern Ireland and Ireland more broadly; this also includes a particularly critical assessment of JB Holmes’ slow play. There’s also a string of great results in the United States, not least of which was the epic finale of the time-honoured North & South Amateur at Pinehurst fought out between Melbourne’s Gabi Ruffels and Sydney’s Doey Choi.
Shane Lowry laps the field, JB Holmes needs to be banished from golf, Tiger and Rory blow it. The last major of the year has come and gone and BAH has some questions. Will a win by an Irishman at Portrush reignite The Troubles? Who had the most disappointing season? Who is in danger of losing their tour card? All of that, Beer a Hole Fishing Trip, definitions of BAH slang and of course America's favorite segment, The Challenge! God made 18 packs for a reason.

The global warming debate continues! Whether you believe it’s TRUE or FALSE, here are the facts: 1) California got another week of crazy weather. Please stop whining you thin skinned hippies….we live in Chicago. 2) Augie’s HOT hands almost turned so hot, he could smelt GOLD after picking Adam Scott to WIN at Riviera. Unfortunately, after holding a lead for multiple days, Augie’s FOUR-PEAT was cold snapped. 3) Uncle Stu is still cold as ICE. 4) JB Holmes played so slow this week, he effectively killed a little part of all our souls, and another layer of the ozone has had time to dissipate. The debate will continue…. Stu and Augie start by recapping their 2019 Pools (one and done) after the Genesis. Augie almost called his FOURTH CONSECUTIVE WINNER, but still holds 100% success rate for picks making the cut. Uncle Stu hopped aboard the MAGIC CARPET BETTING RIDE, and luckily had sooooo much time to pick up JB Holmes to hedge the starting ponies, his personal bets were in the PROFIT ZONE. In the “easier” league – Augie jumps to #5 after a MIND-BOGGLING Adam Scott call. Ok, sure, he didn’t win, but this guy is a BALLER & A SHOT CALLER. Re-Tweet from last week: FAT WALLET ALERT! In the “complicated” league – 7 of 8 of our combined work horses made the cut. Luckily, no one picked JB Holmes, but unluckily, that means no major progress for us this week. Augie still lands in the top #25 (out of 481), Uncle Stu, well just remember that everyone loves a COME BACK STORY! Uncle Stu gives updates on his personal bets for WGC: 1) Tiger Tiger Woods Y’all (18:1). 2) Phil Mickelson (28:1) – defending champion + social media “CALF MUSCLE” champion of the GOLF WORLD!.....dead lock this week if Uncle Stu has ever seen one. 3) Uncle Stu’s sleeper (66:1) Be sure to listen in for #3 - and don’t forget to place your $$$$ BETS $$$$!

Wow, that was a weird one at the Genesis Open this year. Much to cheer about with the improvement to the tournament going forward joining with Tiger Wood's charities and becoming an Invitational, more money, more extended exemption. Very cool. JB Holmes and Justin Thomas have history, which we didn't learn about until after the tournament, but did that mentor/mentee relationship play a role in the outcome. We look at the number that matter in both $$, but also in performance up against the performance benchmarks we use to manage and monitor our games. Let's tee it up!! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dataaxisgolf/message

One of the featured items for bid is Jack Fleck's 1955 Ben Hogan 2-9 irons he used to upset Hogan. Fleck was the young professional who came from behind to beat Hogan in 1955. Considered one of the biggest upsets in golf, Fleck was a virtually unknown touring pro from Iowa. He prevented Hogan from winning a record 5th U.S. Open title forcing an 18-hole playoff at the 1955 Open, and did so using a custom made set of Ben Hogan irons. Hogan's company began making clubs in 1953. They were the only two in the field playing with Ben Hogan clubs. Ingle states that there will be a wide range of items including autographed golf balls, bags, flags, etc. Masters memorabilia. The Golf Auction sold one of the original 1934 Masters tickets for more than 30k. The online auction runs through Sunday. Todd Lewis,The Golf Channel, calls in from Augusta. Todd finishes up talking about Phil Mickelson's adjustment to his putter grip with the help of Dave Stockton. Steve DiMeglio, USA Today, calls in for the first time on The Golf Insiders to talk to Holly about from The Players. For years at the Wednesday competition of The Players Championship, each player contributed to a prize fund, with some of the money going to charity and the rest going to the caddie who ended up closest to the pin. "This year, the competition honors the late Bruce Edwards, who Jim 'Bones' Mackay said was "the Arnold Palmer of caddies." Edwards, the longtime friend and caddie for Tom Watson, passed away in 2004 from ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). On the 10th anniversary of his death, the PGA Tour will match all donations on the 17th, with all the money going to the Bruce Edwards Foundation." Steve feels that Matt Kuchar is hot coming into the tournament and also feels that Jordan Spieth and Sergio Garcia have a good chance at winning this event. Steve also stresses that all could miss the cut because the course has you on your toes every single round. "It's hard to get a rhythm for four days." Garry Smits, Florida Times Union, calls in to give listeners the conditions of the course. The greens on 4, 9, 11, 12 and 13 were over chemically treated. Nos. 4, 11 and 12 the players were not allowed to practice on them prior to the Wed event. Some were re-sodded and plugged. Garry says the greens are really soft because they've been watering them a lot.
