This interview is with Sara Garr of Circadian Cellars. In this interview, Sara talks about growing up as a creative individual and finally finding her preferred medium in wine.Sara talks about first entering the wine industry from a sales point of view, working at the Harry & David bottle shop in Medford. Though initially she didn't know much about fine wine, she worked with the wine buyer and her coworkers to learn more. Her career trajectory changed in 2015 when she started her first harvest with Quady North / Barrel 42.Sara discusses her “happy accident” barrel of Cabernet that would become her first wine under the Circadian Cellars label. While continuing to work at Barrel 42, she slowly started to expand her own label as well, including lesser known varietals as well as more standard Southern Oregon varietals but with less common winemaking processes. After she felt she had a handle on the wine itself, she also started creating her own labels.Later in the interview, Sara talks about the future of her own label and the wine industry at large. With an ever-changing industry and the people interested in drinking wine, she stresses the importance of being flexible and creating a product that customers really want. For her first wine club release, she will curate a collection “from the vault” for each member based on their individual taste. This interview was conducted by Rich Schmidt at Hummingbird Estate in Central Point on March 16, 2026.Thank you to the Oregon Wine Board for generously supporting this interview as part of our Southern Oregon 2026 tour!

#178 - The road to redemption isn't always straight, and nobody knows this better than Garr Russell. From sitting in a jail cell in fifth grade to building a nationwide RV rental franchise with 70 locations, Garr's journey proves that our darkest chapters can become the foundation for something beautiful. After his parents' divorce set him on a troubled path, Garr spiraled through expulsion, dropping out, and eventually dealing drugs. Rock bottom came with multiple arrests, but transformation arrived in an unexpected form – a coworker who simply asked him to read the Bible aloud during their shifts. This small invitation sparked a profound spiritual awakening that completely redirected Garr's life.Years later, when an anniversary gift of an RV for his pregnant wife didn't quite land as expected (she left the campground early!), Garr's entrepreneurial mind saw opportunity. Fireside RV Rental was born, built not by purchasing a fleet of vehicles but by managing other people's assets – a brilliant model that allowed rapid growth without massive debt. The RV lifestyle eventually became more than business for the Russell family. Following a challenging situation with one of their children, they hit the road full-time for five years, homeschooling their four kids along the way. Their adventures created lasting memories, but Garr's favorite wasn't at some grand national park – it was sitting beside a small river, making stick boats with his children, completely disconnected from life's pressures.Garr has documented his journey in two books and continues to expand his entrepreneurial vision, recently purchasing a historic diner in his Florida town. Through it all, he maintains that "life happens for you, not to you," turning painful experiences into purpose. His mission now? Serving Christian entrepreneurs and supporting his family in fulfilling their unique callings.Whether you're facing your own crossroads or simply love stories of radical transformation, Gar's journey reminds us that our past doesn't dictate our future – and sometimes the most meaningful adventures happen when we're brave enough to change direction. To learn more about Garr, his books and Fireside RV Rental check out www.firesidervrental.com and www.myhisstory.com. Want to be a guest on Journey with Jake? Primus posted on their social media today (Tuesday) that longtime drummer Tim “Herb” Alexander has “abruptly” quit the band on the heels of what they called “a fabulous spring and summer of touring” and with “some fabulous plans ahead.” They say his departure was “a complete shock” and that their only contact with him was an email saying he'd “lost his passion for playing.” They say they will do their annual New Year's show in a one-off augmented version with members of Holy Mackerel and Frog Brigade; that Tool drummer Danny Carey will join them at a number of scheduled shows with Tool in the Dominican Republic; and that they “plan on searching for the greatest drummer on earth” to replace Alexander. Quentin Tarantino liked the new Joker movie, saying, "I'm just nihilistic enough to kind of enjoy a movie that doesn't quite work as a movie, and that's a big, giant mess to some degree. I didn't find it an intellectual exercise. I really got caught up into it . . . I really liked the musical sequences. I thought the more banal the songs were, the better they were." RIP: Terri Garr has died. She was 79. Garr had a long battle with multiple sclerosis.
