BRO.

When I was two years old, my parents were divorced and I was reared by my grandparents who faithfully sent me to church. At twelve years of age, I accepted Christ as my Savior; however, it was not until I was sixteen that I became serious about serving the Lord. While I was attending a funeral, God called me to preach—a decision I made public in the next church service. I began to study my Bible and to listen to Oliver B. Green, Harold Sightler, Dr. M. R. DeHaan and other great preachers on the radio. I also began to read books by Dr. John R. Rice, R. A. Torrey and other great preachers. The Lord revolutionized my life! At age seventeen I joined the United States Marine Corps as an opportunity to serve my country and be a witness to my fellow Marines. I married Linda Burrell in 1969 and we set out to serve the Lord together. In 1970 we moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee, to attend Tennessee Temple University. Before I took my first class, God used a small article in the Baptist Bible Trumpet, published by Dr. John Waters, to burden my heart about reaching Muslims in the Sahara. The article was written by Dr. Dan Truax, who became my Director for many years. I graduated from Tennessee Temple with a Bachelor's degree in Missions. In December 1973 we joined Baptist International Missions, Inc. (BIMI). After a year of deputation, we arrived in Albertville, France, to study the French language. We spent a year and a half in France and then took a ship down to the country of Senegal, where we worked until 1990. God blessed our years there. Two of our five children were born in Senegal. While there we learned the Wolof language and had the privilege of seeing Muslims come to know Christ. At the request of BIMI, we moved to the country of Zaire in 1991 to reopen the work of missionary Anton Andersen. Just two weeks after our arrival in the village of Tshene, serious fighting broke out in the country. The next eighteen months were filled with many dangers, culminating in our family being airlifted from the country in 1993. During the time we spent in Zaire, we learned another language (Kikongo), saw many people saved, and worked with the many believers who were there. When we arrived back in America, we were going to take a year's medical leave; however, God had other plans for us. Our home church, Grace Baptist Church of Landrum, South Carolina, called me to be their pastor. At the same time, Ambassador Baptist College was in need of an experienced missionary to add to their teaching faculty. For the next nine years I pastored a growing church, taught at Ambassador two days a week, and served on the Executive Board or as an officer of the South Carolina Association of Christian Schools. In August 2001 Dr. Les Frazier asked if I would pray about becoming Far East Director with BIMI. After seven months of prayer and much heart searching, I accepted this position. I resigned as pastor of my church and as instructor at Ambassador in May 2002. For ten years I served as Far East Director. In the summer of 2011, I was asked to serve as Vice President and Executive Director at BIMI. I took that position in January 2012. My tasks are many. We spend time out on the mission fields assisting our missionaries. I do the “Moments for Missions” radio broadcasts. Most weeks I preach in a missions conference or on a college campus. There are also many projects on which I work for Dr. David Snyder at the World Missions Center. We count it a blessing and a privilege to serve a wonderful group of missionaries and the churches which send them out. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thebiblepreacher/message

There are also many projects on which I work for Dr. David Snyder at the World Missions Center. We count it a blessing and a privilege to serve a wonderful group of missionaries and the churches which send them out. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thebiblepreacher/message

Season 3 Episode 40 -- Pastor Barrett Marshall joins me in this podcast today. He is the senior pastor of Greenville Christian Fellowship in Greenville S.C. We begin by discussing the reality of how imperfect we human fathers are apart from abiding in the life of the Lord Jesus Christ. Without having a healthy relationship with our Heavenly Father through Christ our Lord ourselves, we will never be able to disciple and shepherd our sons and daughters as earthly fathers. We continue by discussing how one generation of fathers can pass on God's truth to the next generation of fathers in an ever increasing spiritually fruitful way. We explain how critically important it is to understand that truth out of balance leads to heresy. Some of the practical points we discuss concerning fathers avoiding provoking children to wrath are: # 1 -- Time With Your Children # 2 Refusing to listen carefully to your children # 3 Permitting or Tolerating Bad Behavior # 4 Demanding Too Much From The Children. A book written by John R. Rice is recommended entitled "The Home" --Courtship, Marriage and Children. In this book there is substantial information as to how Susannah Wesley approached parenting and some of the essential Biblical Principles required if fathers and mothers are to see spiritual fruitfulness in the lives of their children. We also explain that many times it is out of failure we fathers discover the truth of how to properly bring up the children God has entrusted to us. Pastor Barrett spends some time explaining exactly what does it mean to "provoke them to wrath." We seek to give illustrations out of our own lives as fathers and also illustrations out of the lives of other fathers to help us all gain the proper understanding of how to be a godly father. At the end Pastor Barrett shares how our heart goes out to every father because we all know the challenges we encounter in seeking to properly train, disciple, discipline and shepherd the hearts of sons and daughters. May God fill each of you fathers with the wisdom and understanding you need from Him so that you can effectively lead your children to come to know salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ and they also can come to know the only perfect Father there is -- God our Heavenly Father !! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/randy-cook/message

Racism is a part of American history. It is a part of American evangelical history. It should then come to no surprise that it was and in some cases still is a part of the history of the IFB movement. This week, Sam and David discuss this history, how it pertains to us today and God's heart for all people. When a TV reboot fiasco polarized fans of the original show and seemed to contradict the actors' values, John R. Price did some digging. What he found in his investigation drove him to write a fictionalized version of what he thinks happened when Hollywood played fast and loose with the viewers' trust. Enter: Bobby's Girls. Written in an unusual style, this book is a fast read that explores what happens when Hollywood gets it wrong. Note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you. What Happens When Hollywood Gets a Great Idea All Wrong? Written almost like a screenplay, this book really takes a look at what might happen (and might have happened in the not too distant past) when Christians are trapped by contracts and viewers are left confused. John R. Price is a debut author of the novel, Bobby's Girls, and has written an interesting take on what happens when actors become Christians and their values no longer line up with Hollywood's agenda. Inspired by a TV reboot gone all wrong, Bobby's Girls explores what John thinks he found in researching what made these Christian actors be a part of a once family-friendly show turned... well, not-so-family-friendly. I had a blast chatting with John, and I'm curious to see what he'll do with the sequel he's considering. Bobby's Girls by John R. Price Having grown up on their own show in Hollywood, Christian sister-and-brother actors Staci and Mike Whitaker have now married and raised their own families out of the limelight. Life away from Hollywood's glamour has given them new perspectives on family and culture. Fate reboots their old show and summons Staci, and Mike's wife Celeste, to a fresh chance at entertaining modern families. After much discussion, they carefully accept. But when the show goes horribly awry, Staci, Celeste, and even Mike find themselves sorely tempted and even tricked into violating their most cherished ideals. How will they find their way back, when all around them seems aimed towards darkness? You can find out more about John R. Rice at his WEBSITE, where you can also find his social media! Dr. John R. Rice preached a message entitled, "Why Pray." We hope you enjoy this classic sermon from a great preacher of the past. Visit classics.preachthebible.org for more gospel messages.
Today, Monday May 10 Prayer is Asking and Receiving Colossians 1:9 For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; Right after I received Jesus Christ into my heart and life as a nineteen year old, I knew I needed to learn how to pray. There was something in my heart that wanted to communicate with the God who saved me! When the Holy Spirit comes into our lives at our salvation experience we become a new creation in Christ Jesus and have new desires in our lives. And prayer, talking with our Father, is definitely one of those desires. If you don't have a desire to pray please take the time to make sure you have a genuine salvation. Remember the disciples saw and heard Jesus praying and they were motivated to pray and so they asked Him, “Lord, teach us to pray.” One of the ways I begin to learn to pray was to find good books on and about prayer written by people who knew how to pray. One of the very first books I read as a brand new believer was a book entitled, “Prayer, Asking and Receiving”, by Dr. John R. Rice. The Apostle Paul said in verse nine, that he “prayed and asked….”. Now for sure, prayer is many things. But genuine prayer comes from a great sense of need in my life or the needs in the lives of others that the Spirit of God might reveal to me. Another book I read basically said that, “Prayer is a sense of helplessness.” If I get lost when I driving to a specific location, it seems the last thing I will do, is to humble myself and admit that I am lost, and stop and find someone that knows the area and ask them for directions. It's my pride that keeps me from admitting and asking! I believe we have the same issue when it comes to praying. We try to make the Christian life so complicated when, really it is so simple! Is it difficult to talk with someone that you love and you know that they love you? Of course not! My friend, your heavenly Father is waiting with open arms for you to come and talk with Him. I'm delighted as a father and grandfather for my children and grandchildren to call me and ask for help when they need it. One of the great joys of my life over my many years as a pastor, is for a member or friend to call me and ask for help or advice. Today, would you please take the time talk with your Heavenly Father? First, tell Him how much you love Him and need Him in your life! And then know that He has given you complete access to Himself and all His resources through His Son Jesus Christ! God bless!
Dr. Rice preached this message at Temple Baptist Church in Portsmouth Ohio in the 1960's and has made an impact on all who heard this message. I believe it will make an impact on us today as we listen to Dr. Rice preach "Watching Jesus Die". Dr. John R. Rice was born in Cooke County, Texas on December 11,1895. He was mightily used of the Lord in many ways throughout his life. It has been noted many times of Dr. Rice being a tremendous soul winner. Once on a car trip from Dallas to Chicago, Dr. Rice prayed, "Lord, help me to find someone I can win." He then missed a turn in Oklahoma and drove fifty miles out of the way. At a gas station where he stopped to ask directions, he led the attendant to Christ. Still upset about the unplanned detour, his daughters giggled at him, reminding him of his earlier prayer. At 81, with a hearing aid, suffering from arthritis, and aware that his memory was "not quick as it was years ago," Dr. Rice still managed to be at the office most mornings at 6:30. In 1978, he had a heart attack, then a second, more serious one in April 1980. He died of a stroke on December 29. The staff counted 22,923 letters that had come to Rice between the beginning of his writing ministry and his death, each reporting that the writer had found Christ through Rice's books or booklets or through a sermon published in The Sword of the Lord. (Mateus 1.23) Bom dia! Israel Belo de Azevedo
For episode 40 of the "50 Baptist You Should Know" Series, we will discuss the ministry of John R. Rice. Poor and in poverty, John learned how to get things from God through prayer. He constantly saw God supply for his needs. At the age of twenty-one, John entered Decator Baptist College where he took to milking the college cows and later was a waiter in the college dining room. A few years later, John entered the University of Chicago, looking to obtain a Master's in Education and Psychology. Through attending a service at the Pacific Garden Mission near the University, John felt God's call on his life. God used John's preaching to reach thousands. In addition to his preaching, John had an influential writing ministry. Listen along with us this week as we explore the life of John R Rice.
Moreover Brethren; I Declare Unto You The Gospel. Preached by Dr. John R. Rice. 1 Corinthians 15:1-5
TEXT: 1 Peter 3:1-7 John R. Rice said: “A husband is to remember that he is stronger than his wife. His life should be an example to his wife. The husband should be able to explain the Scriptures to his wife. The heavy responsibilities of earning a living, of disciplining children, winning the family to Christ, of religious instruction in the home and the family—these heaviest burdens ought to fall heaviest on the husband's shoulders. The man who shirks and avoids such responsibilities, leaving them for the weaker partner, sins before God and will have his prayers hindered.
