In this episode, Ashanti Bentil-Dhue talks to Julie Dennis, a menopause in the workplace specialist who has partnered with various organisations across the UK to help create positive behaviours, and conversations around menopause, In helping to make sure that anyone working through menopause is able to stay on track with their career. “ Learning to say no early on, when it's not your specialism or making a decision. Are you going to be a DNI generalist, or are you going to be a DNI specialist like I am? I specialise in menopause in the workplace. But what I have done is created a network of referral specialists, so when I'm asked to talk about topics that I am not competent in, I don't try and wing it, or say yes. Knowing I've got a competent professional expert that I can share that work with. So learning to say no, recognising your boundaries and creating that referral network, I think are absolutely crucial to be successful in this space.” Episode Highlights: Changes in the way menopause is being addressed in the workplace. What skills do you need to develop to be a good practitioner? Advice for people aspiring to be a part of history. Bullying and harassment is behaviour that makes someone feel intimidated or offended. And when it takes place at work, it can make your working life miserable, subsequently losing faith in yourself and your abilities. It can also leave you feeling ill and depressed, vulnerable, isolated and challenging to motivate yourself to work. In the second installment of My Possible Self's mini-series on bullying, host Gabby talks to Julie Dennis, Head of Diversity and Inclusion for ACAS, the workplace expert for England, Wales and Scotland. ACAS gives employees and employers free, impartial advice on workplace rights, rules and best practices. Julie and Gabby discuss what steps to take if you or a colleague is experiencing bullying behaviour at work, and what are some of the more subtle signs to look out for if a colleague is making your working life unpleasant. In honor of International Women's Day, Kay Fabella will be hosting a variety of subject matter experts to uncover real experiences of women at work on the Inclusion in Progress podcast. Each guest will cover different topics of concern for women in the workplace: from bias towards trans women, gender equity and cultural identity, the gender pay gap, as well as miscarriage, fertility loss and menopause. This episode covers a wide range of things that women are facing every day at work, and how organizations that are committed to gender equity can support women from across the spectrum of experiences! But the reality is that companies that want to truly support women's advancement in the workplace must consider the real, often “hidden” experiences that many struggle to disclose to their employers. We all have a part to play in making the workplace a more inclusive, diverse and psychologically safe place for everyone, and the advice from our guest experts will broaden your perspective and offer a wealth of actionable ideas to support and sustain female representation and gender-inclusive workplaces. . People often worry that in order to sell to corporates, they should have a background working with corporate organisations. But is that really the case? When people leave corporate careers to set up a business, they’ll often go one of two ways; creating a business that immediately sells back to corporate companies because they know the area/ industry and demographic or having not enjoyed their corporate career, avoiding seling to organisations for as long as possible (and trying to become an internet marketing influencer in order to avoid selling!) But is it necessary to have had a previous corporate career in order to successfully sell business to business? Or are there other things that are more important to stakeholders and companies overall? In this episode, I’m digging deep and sharing; Whether corporate companies really need suppliers who’ve worked for organisations before (and why some of my answers might surprise you!) (01:36) What having a ‘corporate background’ means - and how the different definitions might impact your abilities to sell to corporate organisations. (06:04) If you really need to have had a sterling corporate career (and what to do if you didn’t!) (08:51) The two choices that ex-corporate employees have to make when they leave corporate jobs to set up a business - and how it impacts their sales. (09:52) Where business owners often get stuck, frustrated and stop their sales processes (11:56) The reasons that internet marketing makes genuine experts feel awful about selling their services (17:04) Whether it’s integral to have a corporate background when it comes to selling B2B (19:28) The things business owners focus on that corporates don’t care about (24:03) What companies really care about when they’re choosing external suppliers to buy from (25:47) Why your continued professional development is important to corporate organisations (and for your own business benefit!) (28:32) How passionate you are will equal how much profit you’re able to make (32:41) Why humble pie doesn’t need to be your default mode when selling your services to corporate organisations. (34:11) The real pros and cons of having a corporate background when selling B2B and the pros and cons of selling to corporates if you’ve never worked with corporate organisations before (36:38) How to identify whether or not you need support - and what you need to do if there’s something you need help with (39:59) Plus, sharing the recent podcast reviews from Julie Dennis, Menopause Consultant and Trainer from https://juliedennis.net/ and an update on The C Suite ® and our closing 2020 doors. This is a whole new ball game Ladies. Until very recently there was no way in hell the taboo subject of menopause would have been discussed or recognised in the workplace! oh no, it was ignored and brushed under the carpet. In this second episode in my mini-series on menopause I am chatting with menopause trainer Julie Dennis all about raising awareness and providing support for women going through this in the workplace. Businesses need to retain talent and look after the well being of their staff and this is something that has been totally ignored. Julie provides webinars, 1:1 training and group training sessions within companies to help them support their employees during this challenging time. Sleeplessness, memory loss and sudden hot flashes are all very real and it's about time this subject was out in the open! If this episode helps you in any way please leave a review to explain how. I'd love to hear your comments.
Black lives matter: the workplaceThe Black Lives Matter movement has brought ingrained racism to the foreground. In this episode, Rachel Rockson, Chair of the Acas Race Equality Network, and Julie Dennis, Head of Diversity and Inclusion at Acas, share their insights into what organisations and individuals can do to make our workplaces truly more equal, including what intersectionality is and why it matters. We look at how racism and inequality are experienced and persist, what white people need to do to be part of change, and what organisations and leaders need to do to be responsible for change. How do you become known and become a priority for your market so that they feel compelled to buy from you? I’m joined by Julie Dennis who talks about her breakthrough in revolutionising menopause at work when her market, in the beginning, didn’t want to know. In this episode we cover:- How to raise awareness of a hidden problem to raise demand for your services. The ‘White Paper’ strategy that played a key role in the conversion of her clients. In this episode of the Resilience Roundtable podcast series, host Jim Schwab, FAICP, speaks with Julie Dennis of OVID Solutions about her experiences working as both an independent disaster-recovery consultant and as a previous director of community development for the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity. Julie's vast experience in Florida saw her working in the Florida Keys when Hurricane Irma hit; she says that the department's focus on relationship building in the region helped enormously to lay the groundwork for assisting post-disaster and guiding redevelopment. The conversation shifts into the personal when Julie shares her experiences with Hurricane Michael, which destroyed her parents' and other family members' homes in another part of the state: the Florida Panhandle. Listeners hear not just about the harsh reality of surviving in a post-disaster environment but also about the moving displays of cooperation that Julie witnessed again and again after the event. Julie and Jim discuss the work she's focusing on now, including guiding some communities in the Panhandle in their first-time planning work. Throughout the episode, Julie shares invaluable insights from working in a state that's on the nation's frontlines of disaster-recovery planning.
On today’s show I am chatting with an incredible human being. Julie Dennis has had a huge impact on the way organisations look at the menopause. When no one was talking about this very important subject she was sharing ways to manage it and look after employees as well as raising awareness for everybody. Determined to feel better she decided to find out all she could about menopause and find a drug free solution that worked for her. Join me to celebrate 100 episodes of The Extraordinary Business Book Club! I puzzled over how to mark this milestone for a while, but in the end I decided to keep it real: three business people just like you, carving out the time to write from the demands of the day job, none of them professional writers, all working out how to do this one step at a time. Julie Dennis is a menopause coach - her book The Hot Flush Freedom Challenge was published by Practical Inspiration Publishing in January 2017 Michael Brown is a trainer and consultant, who's just about to deliver to me the manuscript for My Job Isn't Working: 10 proven ways to boost your career mojo for publication in July 2018 Elaine Halligan is a Director of The Parent Practice, whose book My Child is Different, the story of her son Sam - who'd been excluded from three schools by the age of seven, but who went on to become Head Boy at senior school and is today a thriving young entrepreneur - is being published by Crown House in July 2018 Each of them shares what they've discovered on the journey, and their incredibly practical advice for anyone in the same situation. Each one of them inspires me with their passion for their message, and how they can make the world a little better, one reader at a time. I can't think of a better way to celebrate 100 episodes of celebrating extraordinary business books.
Julie Dennis spends her days educating and informing women about menopause. She's breaking the stigma, and impacting tons of women on a global scale when it comes to understanding their body, and what happens to it naturally. When she talks about it, it really doesn't seem as bad as the rest of the world would have you believe! Julie recently wrote a book called the Hot Flash Freedom Guide, and has questions about it. Her Question: How do I map out a book launch? Jess is more than happy to talk book launches! She starts off by giving a small peek at the things Amazon considers, and explains why having a ton of reviews on day one actually impacts your launch in a negative way. She explains the purpose of a wait list, and how it can impact the success of a launch in a great way. She talks about how to get traffic to the wait list, the motivations people have for helping you, and where incentives play into things. Jess talks about getting out into the eyes and ears of the masses by guest blogging, guesting on podcasts and collaborations with others. She also explains that depending on the time of year, seasonal events can impact the success of a launch, so it's important to plan accordingly and use those seasonal things to your advantage. Fnally she explains the only thing people need to do in order to get people to buy their book once it's been launched. Quotes "Be yourselves, people" "We're going to make the Hot Flash Freedom Guide as big as Fifty Shades of Grey" "Every call to action should be: Traffic to wait list" "I was the only person skiing in a strappy top" "People won't always buy on day 1" "All they need to do is know the reason to purchase" Links FREE Smart Leaders Sell Facebook Group www.smartleaderssell.com Content Disclaimer The information contained above is provided for information purposes only.
