Show Summary Kelsey started a career in tech at 16 years old and hustled for a decade in product marketing. Confronted her issues with alcohol and got sober in September 2015. (SWEET!) Found her "happy place" in the kitchen and began baking, stumbling on a great egg-sub that made her cookie dough safe to eat! Took the leap, quit her career and started Doughp in 2017; continuing to share her story in hopes of inspiring others. Made a splash on Shark Tank and was named Forbes 30 Under 30 & Vegas 40 Under 40. This was one of the funnest interviews I've done. Kelsey's story about her addiction to alcohol is very similar to mine. When she was telling stories about her drunken days, I noticed I had similar instances, behaviors, and thought patterns. She Recovers is the international women's recovery group that Doughp supports. You should check it out at the link below. Also, during the month of September, National Recovery Month, if you visit Costco's in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Kansas, and Oklahoma, and purchase the 2lb bag of Doughp, take a picture of the receipt, send it to me at jaydangumm@forgivenfelons.org, Doughp will donate $5 to Forgiven Felons. This week's guest is not just taking the Cookie Dough industry by storm and serving thousands of households every week, but is doing so while reducing the social stigmas associated with addiction recovery and mental health. Kelsey Moreira is this week's guest on “The Jake Dunlap Show.”Kelsey was born in Dallas, Texas, but grew up in Sacramento California. After her parents divorce, and turbulence along with a focus on perfectionism from her mother led to Kelsey's anxiety. At age 14, Kelsey went to her first party where it felt good to drink.Kelsey took on a Technical Marketing Internship for 5 years while attending Arizona State University at Intel. Much like any college student, alcohol consumption continued. Over time, Kelsey began pushing people away due to her drinking until one day, she had the final straw. Kelsey put down the bottle, and as she was not out drinking all hours of the night on the weekends, she began waking up early, and had extra time, leading to her baking. This was the beginning of Doughp. Doughp started selling in San Francisco's Pier 39 and inside Oracle Park before expanding to The Las Vegas Strip, and now ships nationwide through strong e-commerce. In 2019, Kelsey went on Shark Tank (Season 10, Episode 22), and was told by Barbara Corcoran that Kelsey was: “The most sophisticated store owner she'd ever met in her life.” She did not get a deal, but has had massive growth and success since. Please enjoy this week's episode with the Queen of Cookie Dough, and the most sophisticated store owner Barbara Corcoran has ever met in her life, Kelsey Moreira. #Doughp4Hope:#Doughp4Hope - Reducing the stigmas around mental health and addiction, and donating heavily to non-profits and instilling crucial Mental Health Policies for their staff. Crisis Text Line:https://www.crisistextline.org/ Kelsey's Social Links: Facebook and Instagram: @doughp, @kels.moreiraTik Tok/Twitter: @eatdoughpLinkedIn: Kelsey Moreira Learn more about Jake Dunlap and Skaled by visiting the links below:Jake Dunlap:Personal Site - http://jakedunlap.com/LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/jakedunlap/Twitter - https://twitter.com/JakeTDunlapInstagram - http://instagram.com/jake_dunlap _Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/JakeTDunlap/ Skaled:Website - https://skaled.com/LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/skaledYouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsw_03rSlbGQkeLGMGiDf4Q

After getting sober in 2015, today's guest, Kelsey Moreira, set off on a journey to make the world a little sweeter by starting Doughp Legit Cookie Dough, a company that makes edible, bakeable, and ridiculously tasty cookie dough. You'll hear about Kelsey's lifelong interest in marketing and how her ambition drove her to use alcohol to relieve stress before reaching a turning point that changed sobriety from a ‘should' into a ‘must'. Her huge life change left her with the capacity to pursue a new endeavor, and she began baking as a hobby until her entrepreneurial spirit led her to transform it into a business and pitch it on Sharktank to find an investor. Doughp has an ecommerce segment, as well as physical stores in San Francisco and the Las Vegas strip, which Kelsey chose because of her focus on addiction recovery. We explore the power of the message behind the brand to grow a community, and Kelsey reveals more about the non-profit piece of the company, donating one percent of total sales to a different organization each year, with She Recovers as this year's non-profit. Kelsey shares plenty of actionable advice with listeners today, and points us in the direction of her podcast, Soberpreneur, where she interviews innovative business owners who have recovered from addiction. Kelsey Moreira is the Founder, CEO, and Fearless Leader of Doughp, an edible, bakeable, and mission-driven cookie dough business that ships products to thousands of households every week. After getting sober in 2015 and rekindling her culinary passions, she left her decade-long career in tech to start Doughp — with an average revenue increase of 295% in the first 4 years.  Kelsey has appeared on ABC's Shark Tank and was named a Forbes 30 Under 30 and Vegas 40 Under 40. She uses the Doughp platform for social good by working to reduce stigmas surrounding addiction, recovery, and mental health. Here's a glimpse of what you'll learn:  How Kelsey Moreira came up with the name “Doughp” for her business Kelsey's background working at Intel and how she overcame an alcohol addiction How Kelsey started baking products and how she built a business selling out of a food cart How Kelsey transitioned from selling baked goods to selling cookie dough, how she started selling in retail stores, and how she grew the e-commerce side of the business How the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted Doughp's sales  Kelsey explains why she moved her business from San Francisco to Las Vegas and talks about her company's future plans How Kelsey handles performance pressure and how she helps address mental health issues in other companies Kelsey's advice to fellow entrepreneurs and her thoughts on trade shows and sampling In this episode… It is difficult for many solo entrepreneurs to avoid getting emotionally attached to their businesses. They are often concerned with driving sales for their products and growing their businesses, and this often leads to performance pressure, stress, and anxiety. The employees of a business are also affected by mental health issues as they carry out their daily duties. While this can go unnoticed, it could have far-reaching consequences if left unacknowledged — not just for the employees, but for the company at large. In this episode of the NexxtLevel Brands Podcast, Steve Cleere is joined by Kelsey Moreira, the Founder and CEO of Doughp, to talk about leaving the tech industry and starting a CPG business, overcoming alcohol addiction, dealing with performance pressure, and addressing mental health issues. I think this hesitance or over planning that can happen sometimes where you are spending years and years thinking about what if your what it might be like. And just getting out there and starting something and seeing how it sticks. You can continue to learn and evolve and pull back or push forward with whatever information you start to get but if you don't start you are working off a very limited set of info to keep working on it so I just encourage entrepreneurs to give it a go”…[Listen for More] Click Here for Show Notes To Listen or to Get the Show Notes go to https://wp.me/p6Tf4b-lGN
