How Do You Negotiate With Terror? North Korea executes five officials over failed Kim-Trump summit! How Will Trump Respond? How Would You? Trump using tariffs as new weapon to combat border crisis; Buttigieg's story questioned by brother-in-lawTariffs: Trump's new weapon to combat the migration crisisPresident Trump on Thursday announced a new 5 percent tariff on Mexico beginning in early June, saying the levy will "graduallyincrease" until the ongoing illegal immigration surge at the southern border is "remedied" and illegal migrants "STOP." Fox News is told the tariff on all goods by land, sea, and air from Mexico will hike to 10 percent on July 1 -- and potentially increase substantially from there."Thousands of innocent lives are taken every year as a result of this lawless chaos. It must end NOW!" Trump said in a White House statement. Specifically, White House sources told Fox News that Mexico would need to step up security efforts on the border, target transnational smugglers, crack down on illicit bus lines and align with the U.S. on a workable asylum policy.South Korean media: North Korea executes five officials over failed Kim-Trump summitNorth Korea has executed five officials for their role in the failed second summit between President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un last February, according to a South Korean newspaper. Citing the newspaper, Bloomberg News reported that Kim Hyok Chol, North Korea's special envoy to the U.S., and four other North Korean Foreign Ministry officials were executed in March because of the breakdown of the February summit in Hanoi, Vietnam. Trump's closely watched summit with Kim ended abruptly, without the two leaders signing any agreements over nuclear disarmament. Top Kim aide Kim Yong Chol is reportedly sentenced to hard labor for his part in the summit.Mueller may still sit on the hot seatOne thing Special Counsel Robert Mueller made clear Wednesday in his only public remarks on his findings in the Russia investigation was that he had no desire to testify before Congress. The hundreds of pages in his report, Mueller believed, are his best testimony. However, Mueller may not have a choice. Not satisfied with Mueller’s comments, some leading Democrats are anxious to have the now-former special counsel testify under oath.House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., has already said in a statement that Mueller' public remarks left many questions unanswered. House Democratic Caucus Chairman Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., also said that Mueller's report was not enough, telling the New York Times that "there is a difference between reading the book and seeing the movie on the big screen."Exclusive: Mayor Pete’s brother-in-law says his ‘rags-to-riches’ story is made upPastor Rhyan Glezman, brother-in-law of Pete Buttigieg, said Thursday evening that the “rags to riches” narrative in a newspaper profile about the 2020 Democratic presidential candidate and his husband is a lie. The “story couldn’t be further from the truth,” Glezman explained on Fox News' Laura Ingraham on “The Ingraham Angle.” The Washington Post article claimed that Chasten Buttigieg -- the candidate's spouse -- had been “shunned” by his family and even struggled with homelessness. Glezman said the family has no memory of Chasten’s supposed homelessness and shunning. “There has never been any amount of shunning him from the family. I love my brother dearly. I want the best for him. I want the best for Pete,” Glezman said. He said he thinks Buttigieg made up the story because it helps to have a compelling narrative to stand out in a crowded field of candidates.'H-I-S-T-O-R-I-C': National Spelling Bee declares 8 co-champions after 20 roundsSpell it U-N-P-R-E-C-E-D-E-N-T-E-D. But whether it had any impact remains to be seen. Cohen called the US president a "con man" and "racist" and said he was a serial liar, in Congressional testimony on Wednesday. But little of it was new. Trump's defenders at the House hearing slammed the proceeding. They asked why a convicted felon and proven liar on his way to prison was meant to be a credible witness now. *)Kim-Trump summit ends without a deal The North Korean-US summit in Hanoi ended earlier today without a statement or deal. Trump did say later that he likes Kim Jong-un. But he also said he wasn't committed to meeting him again. Pakistan, India tensions simmer Pakistan and India exchanged small arms fire through the night into Thursday morning in Kashmir, officials on both sides of the disputed region said earlier today. There were also reports of some shelling. But there were no immediate reports of casualties. World powers are urging restraint. The latest flare-up in tension follows a recent suicide attack in India-administered Kashmir. *)Erdogan says Turkey to increase cooperation with Chad President Erdogan says Turkey will increase cooperation with Chad and other African countries. Erdogan was speaking in Ankara after a meeting with Chad's President Idriss Deby Itno. Erdogan said he would like to see bilateral trade volume increase to $100 million. *)Ukraine pulls out of Eurovision contest after Russia row And finally, Ukraine has pulled out of this year's Eurovision song contest after the national winner refused to stop performing in Russia. Anna Korsun was asked by Ukraine's public broadcaster to limit her visits to Ukraine's neighbour which is backing a separatist movement in the east of the country. They are demanding equal time to challenge Trump's claim that there is a national security crisis along the border. The government shutdown is in its 18th day. Will the president use his executive power to get funding for his wall? The Russian lawyer involved in the infamous Trump Tower meeting in 2016 is being indicted in a separate case. Federal prosecutors in New York are charging Natalia Veselnitskaya [vessel-nit-SKY-ah] with obstruction of justice. She allegedly attempted to prevent an investigation into money laundering that involved an influential Russian businessman and his investment firm. Veselnitskaya was present at the meeting with Trump campaign officials in Trump Tower during the 2016 presidential campaign. The Trump Tower meeting included Donald Trump Jr., then-campaign chief Paul Manafort and Jared Kushner, President Trump's son-in-law. But, there are some serious holes in this story. The New York Times reports, “The money-laundering case was not directly related to the Trump Tower meeting. But a federal indictment returned in Manhattan seemed to confirm that Ms. Veselnitskaya had deep ties to senior Russian government officials and rekindled questions about whether the Kremlin tried to use her as an intermediary to Donald J. Trump's campaign.” The Magnitsky Act is a bipartisan bill passed by the US Congress and signed into law by President Barack Obama in December 2012, intending to punish Russian officials responsible for the death of Russian tax accountant Sergei Magnitsky in a Moscow prison in 2009. Since 2016, the bill, which applies globally, authorizes the US government to sanction those it sees as human rights offenders, freezing their assets and banning them from entering the US. If the Russian response stating that Magnitsky and other persons defrauded the Russian Treasury is, in fact, true, wouldn't that mean that the basis of the Magnitsky act is wrong? The Trump administration is attempting to end temporary protected status — known as TPS — for over 50,000 Haitians living in the US. Tens of thousands of Haitians were given TPS after an earthquake devastated their country in 2010. In November 2017, the Trump administration announced it would revoke TPS for Haitians. The move was met with protests and multiple lawsuits, and is now being challenged in court. In October, a federal judge temporarily blocked the Trump effort, which also affects immigrants from Sudan, El Salvador and Nicaragua, citing a “discriminatory” motivation. Haitian TPS recipients and their supporters are expected to rally this morning outside the Brooklyn courthouse where the suit is being argued.News that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is visiting China is reinforcing rumors that Kim will meet Trump, possibly in Vietnam, in the near future, for a critical second summit. China remains North Korea's closest ally, extending a cross-border economic lifeline to the cash-strapped and heavily sanctioned state, and China has called for economic sanctions on North Korea to be eased. The timing of Kim's trip to China could be highly significant, potentially suggesting an imminent summit with Trump. In 2018, Kim met Xi for discussions prior to his first summits with both South Korean President Moon Jae In in April and with Trump in June. While no date for the second Kim-Trump summit has yet been set, nor has a location been decided, South Korean daily the Munhwa Ilbo reported Monday that the meeting could take place in Hanoi.GUESTS:Ray Baker — Political analyst and host of the podcast Public Agenda.Caleb Maupin — Journalist and political analyst who focuses his coverage on US foreign policy and the global system of monopoly capitalism and imperialism.Dahoud Andre — Haitian activist who works with the Free Haiti Movement.Lee Stranahan — Co-host of Fault Lines on Sputnik Radio.

In today's podcast, North Korea still seems to be leaving American IoT networks more-or-less alone, for now, however actively they're hacking elsewhere. Everything old is new again, at least with Russian EW. Cryptocurrency crime is a worry everywhere. A look at law firm hacks shows the counselors could use the help of some street-savvy hotel detectives more than a tech-savvy perimeter security solution, although that wouldn't be bad, either. Beware of letting World Cup Wi-FI be an own-goal. Apple's latest updates seem privacy friendly. Thoughts on AI, and the polygraphing of a time traveler that sounds totally legit. David Dufour from Webroot on new roles for security, and how that impacts hiring and education. Guest is John Dickson from Denim Group on securing voting infrastructure.

Happy Reagan's Birthday everyone!  Today, Jim Geraghty of National Review and Greg Corombos of Radio America applaud Vice President Mike Pence for bringing Otto Warmbier's father as his guest to the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in South Korea and keeping the focus on North Korean repression in the midst of the communist regime's charm offensive during in the games.  They're also exasperated as President Trump gives his political opponents and the media new fodder for criticism as Trump flippantly suggests Democrats were treasonous for not applauding good news during his State of the Union address last week.  And they're deeply frustrated as an illegal immigrant previously deported for drunk driving is now charged with the death of Indianapolis Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson and his Uber driver - once again while drunk and in the U.S. illegally.  They also slam the media for biased coverage of the immigration debate, dismissing stories like this and focusing almost exclusively on the success stories of young people in the nation illegally.
