Send us a textThis Thanksgiving, hunting season is over, as Ben and Paul go guestless (hunting is hard) and get restless for a mulleted JCVD, and as a result, a “guaranteed good time” (guarantor @whollymoses). This go round it's the action classic “Hard Target” (d. John Woo 1993) starring: Jean-Claude Camille François Van Varenberg, Yancy Butler, and Lance Henrickson. Should this have been a Lance Henrickson vehicle? Is the only cop working during a strike the only cop you can count on? Do poor people get THIS bored too? And the power…of the one true mullet. These questions, facts, and more to discuss with your drunk uncle at dinner lie ahead! 11/27!**All episodes contain explicit language**Artwork - Ben McFaddenReview Review Intro/Outro Theme - Jamie Henwood"What Are We Watching" & "Whatcha been up to?" Forty years ago this Fall, we saw the release of one of the most influential genre films of the Modern Era, this low-budget sci-fi horror thriller directed by a young upstart named James Cameron....this being his first full-on feature film. It was a simple tale about a mild-mannered young waitress named Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) who unknowingly holds a very unique position to fight a future war against the machines, the imposing cybernetic assassin (Arnold Schwarzenegger) sent back from the future to kill her, and a spirited freedom fighter ALSO sent back from the future to protect her. That freedom fighter's name is Kyle Reese and he's played by Michael Biehn (Aliens, Tombstone) amidst a pretty strong cast including Paul Winfield, Lance Henrickson, and Rick Rossovich. What results is a tight 100 LA-based cat-and-mouse set mostly at night featuring lots of intense action set to a VERY iconic score from Brad Fiedel. Dun Dun Dun DUN DUN...indeed!Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a texthttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/
Send us a textThis week Rob and Liam take a look at mullet action royalty that is Hard Target. Directed by John Woo and even though shackled the Wooness shines through. With scene stealing performances by Lance Henrickson, Arnold Vosloo and Wilfred Brimley. Hard Target's second half delivers on what we are promised an all out action extravaganza one that is surely not to be missed. Oh and Van Damme is in this too.
Send us a textAs we blast off into our 4th Season here at Fabulous Film and Friends, and with the recent release of Alien Romulus, we thought it only fitting to take a look at ALL the Alien movies, minus the execrable Alien v. Predator films, starting with 1979's Alien directed by Ridley Scott and starring Sigourney Weaver, Tom Skerritt, Harry Dean Stanton, Yaphett Koto, John Hurt, Veronica Cartright and Ian Holm followed by 1986's Aliens, directed by James Cameron and starring Sigourney Weaver again, joined by Michael Biehn, Bill Paxton, Lance Henrickson, Carrie Ann Henn, William Hope, Jeanette Goldstein, Mark Rolston Al Matthews, and Paul Reiser. Then we get 1992's Alien 3 directed by David Fincer, starring Weaver once again, with Charles S. Dutton, Charles Dance, Ralph Brown, Pete Postelwaite, Brian Glover, Holt MccAllany, Lance Henrickson and a veritable slew of bald British day players yelling, "You bloody wanker!" Then there's 1997's Alien Resurrection directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet starring Ms. Weaver, Winona Ryder, Ron Perlman, Dan Hedaya, Brad Dourif, JE Freeman, Kim Flowers Gary Dourdan, Dominique Pinon and Michael Wincott. Then there's a long break in the actual franchise with the aforementioned cash-grabs Alien v. Predator films thrown in the mix and the series starts up again in earnest with 2012's Ridley Scott directed prequel Prometheus starring Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall Green, Sean Harris, Rafe Spall, and Guy Pierce. In 2017 we're treated to Alien Covenant, once again directed by Ridley Scott starring Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Cruddup, Danny McBride, Callie Hernandez, Carmen Ejogo, Guy Pearce, everybody's favorite prankster, Jussie Smollet and blink and you'll miss them cameos by Noomi Rapace and James Franco. Which leads us to 2024's Alien Romulus directed by Fede Alvarez and starring Callie Spaeny, David Jonsson, Isabella Merced, Archie Renaux, Aileen Wu, Spike Fearn and a posthumus Ian Holm. I'm your host Gino Caputi and the guests today are Burton Brown, David Johnson, DMD, Joe Field. With seven movies to cover we're going to get right into it, with one synopsis. Alien movies started off about a crew of space miners serving on the enormous mining vessel the Nostromo who while in cryosleep on their return to Earth with their minerals and ore in tow, are given orders to stop on the planet LV-426 to investigate a distress signal coming from a derelict spacecraft. While investigating the phenomena the crew inadvertently bring an alien on board their vessel. The Alien picks off the crew one by one and it is only warrant officer Ripley who survives by destroying the Nostromo and ultimately shooting the alien out into space. An internet meme sums it up thusly:Alien 1 - A team of miners faces an AlienAliens - A team of marines faces a lot of AliensAlien 3 - A group of convicts faces one AlienAlien Resurrection - A team of pirates face 5 AliensPrometheus - A team of scientists inadvertently create the AlienAlien Covenant - A team of colonists face a a lot of AliensAlien Romulus - A team of babyfaced Gen Z 'ers face a lot of AliensWhich is Queen of the Hive? Thirty years of Uma Thurman being a witness to driving men crazy. One podcast host in particular. And although you've probably heard all you need to about one Kentucky man's love for Ms. Thurman this is actually an episode of discovery as shockingly all hosts have a good time with JENNIFER 8. Is it John Malkovich's sass with a cold? Lance Henrickson's trusting nature of dark figures with a flashlight? Or just an excuse to analyze the perverted nature of flash photography? In DESPERATE MEASURES Michael Keaton plays a serial killer who Andy Garcia needs to give his son a bone marrow transplant. EXTREME MEASURES finds Hugh Grant as a doctor uncovering Gene Hackman's plot to do medical testing on homeless folks and EXTRAORDINARY MEASURES finds Brendan Frasure and Harrison Ford racing to come up with a medicine to save his children's lives. Thirty-five years ago, we saw the release of a vampire thriller from a hot new director which truly connected with audiences and is beloved to this day – that film was The Lost Boys and it remains pretty beloved to this day. This was the OTHER vampire thriller released that same year – it was the second film to be directed by future Oscar-winner Kathryn Bigelow and it stars Adrian Pasdar as Caleb, a young man living in Oklahoma who meets a mysterious young woman (Jenny Wright) one night. The two lovebirds connect and then he meets the rest of the family….or so he thinks. Because this woman doesn't below to a family, she belongs to a gang of vampires lead by Lance Henrickson and they're travelling around the country with one main purpose: to feed on others. And as a result, Caleb has to decide whether he wants to join them….or to be fed upon. This cult classic also stars Jeanette Goldstein, Tim Thomerson, and the late, great Bill Paxton.Host: Geoff GershonEditors: Geoff and Ella GershonProducer: Marlene Gershonhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/
We're celebrating episode 50 with author and fantastic human being Jonathan Maberry! Jonathan Maberry doesn't have time to talk to us. He's writing another novel. He's editing Weird Tales Magazine. He's brokering a deal with an agent, copyediting a manuscript with his assistant, coordinating a speaking engagement with his publicist, or prepping a session of his Writers Coffeehouse for aspiring authors. He's probably in the process of winning another Bram Stoker award--he only has five, after all. He's scripting a comic for Marvel or IDW. He's pre-screening a pilot based on one of his series.Jonathan Maberry doesn't have time to talk to us. But he does anyway. In fact, he's got a bookstore appearance coming up in a couple of hours, but he stays on the call past the hour mark to regale us with a tale of how he met Ray Bradbury. He's met all your heroes--Stan Lee, Lin Carter, Stephen King, Michael Moorcock, Harlan Ellison, Lance Henrickson, and on and on--and they're his heroes, too. But he also tells us about his beloved grandmother, a very special hero in his own story. He tells us why he's generous with his ideas. He's kind to people he's never heard of, like us. He has good advice. He has infinite delight in his craft. Jonathan Maberry is a legend in our world. If you love Black Panther or Wolverine or Captain America, you know his work. You may be a fan of his Joe Ledger thriller series, or have a son or daughter reading his Nightsiders books. Maybe you caught V-Wars on Netflix because you loved the comic. Or the Pine Deep novels bring you back to your own hometown's sinister past. You know Jonathan Maberry's Rot & Ruin books if you love zombies. He's penned novels based on the immensely popular Deadlands RPG. He's edited X-Files and Aliens anthologies. He even wrote a jujitsu instruction manual or two, before he started producing fiction in his mid-40s. And he just squeezed his first epic fantasy novel into a thoroughly overloaded schedule--Kagen the Damned, which came out with St. Martin's Griffin this May. The sequel, the Son of the Poisoned Rose, is already on tap for January of next year.We could keep going, probably all day, but there's an interview to get to. Because in spite of all Jonathan Maberry has on his plate, he made the time, and we couldn't be more grateful for it. Originally inspired by a creepy poem by Ed Justin that also served as the basis for the Misfits song of the same name, the DeLaurentis Entertainment Group began development for a film about a vengeful spirit conjured to exact justice for those who have been wronged. The studio eventually brought the project to famed creature creator Stan Winston — best known for his work in films such as ‘The Terminator' as well as ‘Aliens' and ‘Terminator 2,' which earned him several Academy Awards — in order to develop the right look for the monster in the movie. Winston was immediately hooked by the story and decided to use this particular vehicle for his directorial debut. While he was working on the story with another writer, Winston actually allowed his team to help craft the look for the creature and one of his employees actually ended up wearing the suit in the movie. The end result was a story about a grief stricken father calling on a local witch to conjure a creature to seek vengeance on a group of teenagers who accidentally killed his son. In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we're going to head up to Razorback Hollow and dig up some bones as we look back on the 1988 cult classic horror film “Pumpkinhead”…

Juliet Landau is globally renowned for her rich acting career and her role as Drusilla in the pop culture phenomenon Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which took the world by storm and launched its stars and creator Joss Whedon into the spotlight. What I initially thought was going to be a straight forward interview about Landau’s new movie A Place Among the Dead, ended up taking an unexpected and eye-opening turn into a much deeper conversation. We spoke about the underlying significance of the films true subject matter of narcissism and the road to healing and survival, a very personal topic for Juliet and her husband , cinematographer and executive producer, Deverill Weekes. The duo have made it their combined mission to bring these issues to light and help others through their art.We also spoke about the other legendary actors involved in the film Gary Oldman, Ron Perlman, Robert Patrick, Lance Henrickson and author Anne Rice as well as her iconic character, Drusilla and the massive impact of the show and how it helped launch the careers of now household names like Pedro Pascal, Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and more!Taking place on Saturday, 13 February, Supanova Comic Con & Gaming has joined forces with Modern Films to present an interactive online screening of A Place Among The Dead with the films Writer, director and star of the film, Juliet Landau, who also will join fans for a live Q&A, interactive Zoom chat and quiz after the screening, alongside co-stars and fellow Buffyverse alumni Julie Benz, Harry Groener and David Greenwalt.Tickets for the screening and the interactive experience are on sale now via Growtix. You've seen The Crew go head-to-glove with Freddy Krueger. You've seen them say n-o to Jack-O, and chase Pumpkinhead back to Lance Henrickson's shack with his pumpkintail between his pumpkinlegs! But now they face off against cinema's most terrifying creatures... Bud Abbott and Lou Costello, the original Vaudevillian Villains! In yet another BOP 'n A Movie rock 'em and sock 'em punch-out involving things which go bump in the night and/or snarl a lot, we survey the only surviving record of three hapless monsters who left the old country in search of the American dream, and found only a nightmare. A nightmare of sight gags, prat-falls, and wacky chase scenes! It's the movie that invented the horror-comedy as we know it, contains perhaps Bela Lugosi's strongest performance as a creature of the night, the dawn of Glenn Strange's tenure as the titular Monster, and feels as fun and witty today as it was in 1948! Many a horror-nerd hold this film near and dear, us included, so we're busting out the popcorn (and a special mad science-y concoction of booze!) to dig deep in dissecting some cinematic history and raise this feature commentary for ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN from the dead! 2002′s Run Like Hell is a horror themed sci-fi shooter with a troubled history. Despite a star-studded cast (including Lance Henrickson and Kate Mulgrew), the writing falls flat and the game bits are honestly a bit of a mess. Oh, and Breaking Benjamin is there. After a routine geological survey, Commander Nick Conner returns to Forseti Station to find the whole place has been taken over by Street Sharks a mysterious new breed of deadly aliens. In order to discover the secret of these strange creatures and rescue his missing fiance, Conner will have to Run Like Hell. Well, mostly he’ll have to find keycards for 6 hours, but you get the idea.
This week’s movie, Color Of Night, may be one of the oddest recommendations we have ever received. I mean when listener Leo Logan told us he wanted us to do a movie starring Bruce Willis, the 3 of us obviously assumed he was going to say the infamous Hudson Hawk…well what we got was something even more ridiculous. Yes, that’s right, even more ridiculous than Hudson Hawk! Who knows why, at possibly the height of his career, Willis thought doing this movie was a great idea. This movie has some of the oddest music choices, odd editing, a whacky who dunnit plot, off the wall dialogue, and an insane sex scene that includes a quick glimpse at Little Bruno. The film, also starring Scott Bakula, Brad Dourif, & Lance Henrickson, is about a color-blind psychiatrist who is stalked by an unknown killer after taking over his murdered friend’s therapy group, all of whom have a connection to a mysterious young woman that he begins having intense sexual encounters with. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bmoviebreakdown/support
