We have an incredible guest on today's episode! Sarah Hardwick, is on and sharing some truly eye-opening insights about the world of equity crowdfunding. In our conversation, Sarah covered the benefits of exit strategies for early-stage investors, the difference between rewards-based and equity crowdfunding, and the importance of community and communication for successful campaigns. She shared case studies, such as Aptera Motors, which successfully raised over 100 million dollars through crowdfunding, as well as other companies she's worked with that aim to change the world. Exit Strategies for Early-Stage Investors Sarah discussed how early-stage investors can potentially benefit from strategies like going public (IPO) or getting acquired. She explained that having a clear exit strategy can make a huge difference for investors, providing them with rewards for their risks and investments. Rewards-Based vs Equity Crowdfunding Crowdfunding isn't a one-size-fits-all approach. Sarah explained the difference between rewards-based and equity crowdfunding. Rewards-based crowdfunding offers backers a tangible product or service in return, while equity crowdfunding allows the public to invest money in exchange for shares in the company. She emphasized that equity crowdfunding involves a lot more regulations but offers startups more control and power. Case Study: Aptera Motors We dove deep into the success story of Aptera Motors. Aptera, a company that focuses on solar electric vehicles, raised over 100 million dollars through equity crowdfunding. They transitioned from a regulation CF to a regulation A+ campaign to achieve this feat. Sarah highlighted the importance of their well-produced video, which garnered 1.6 million views and widespread interest by being compared to the Batmobile. Community Building and Investor Communication Sarah emphasized the importance of transparency and regular communication with investors. She explained that there's often an overlap between customers and investors, and keeping open lines of communication can lead to additional investments and upsells. A robust community can be a game-changer in your equity crowdfunding campaign's success. The Role of Emotional Connection and Values We talked about the significance of values marketing and connecting with customers on an emotional level. Sarah said, "Understanding why people invest and aligning a company's purpose with a community creates more than transactions—it builds movements." She shared how tapping into emotions can drive successful crowdfunding campaigns. Sarah's Work with Geoship and Doroni Aerospace Sarah works with other incredible companies like Geoship and Doroni Aerospace. Geoship focuses on regenerative communities and innovative homes made from bio-ceramic materials, while Daroni aims to revolutionize transportation with flying cars. Both companies embody the futuristic and world-changing themes that resonate well with early adopters and disruptors. Engaging Ambassadors and Community Members We discussed how Sarah effectively mobilized a core group of supporters. These ambassadors feel special thanks to rewards and exclusive information, similar to street teams for bands. This approach generated incredible growth, leading to over 45,000 followers and 16,000 investors. The Importance of Maintaining Personal Values In the end, we talked about staying true to personal values. Sarah highlighted the importance of not getting distracted by money and hustle. She believes in making a positive impact and doing meaningful work, which keeps her excited and motivated. Conclusion Our conversation with Sarah Hardwick was chock-full of valuable insights on equity crowdfunding, community building, and values marketing. Sarah's focus on aligning a company's mission with its community and maintaining transparency and emotional connections with investors offers a blueprint for success. Make sure to connect with Sarah on LinkedIn if you're interested in becoming part of the crowdfunding community. Crowdfunding Secrets Revealed by LaunchBoom's Will Ford

Hey folks, Joe Fier here from the Hustle and Flowchart podcast! I'm excited to have Will Ford join us today. Will shares crowdfunding secrets from his business LaunchBoom, to help entrepreneurs to successfully launch their products on Kickstarter and Indiegogo. We're diving deep into how Will successfully pivoted his business from an agency model to a coaching and consulting powerhouse. Let's get started and break down what we talked about. https://youtu.be/XWPax1yKnjA LaunchBoom's Success Story LaunchBoom started with 15 launches in its first year, and these generated over six figures each. Their success caught the eye of Kickstarter and Indiegogo, leading to valuable partnerships that brought in more business directly from these platforms. In 2021, Will realized the limits of the agency model and transitioned to coaching, which proved successful by January 2023. Last year was LaunchBoom's best under the new model. The Power of Prelaunch Systems A cornerstone of LaunchBoom's strategy is its robust prelaunch system. This system helps clients fail fast and cheap, saving both time and money. They onboard about 100 new products each month, continually improving their prelaunch strategies. Campaigns average a funding time of under 14 minutes, frequently exceeding their goals. Strategic Use of Crowdfunding Platforms Will emphasized how crucial early success is on platforms like Kickstarter and Indiegogo. Successful campaigns gain top placement and drive more traffic. His strategy is to create enticing options for backers to maximize revenue per contributor. LaunchBoom's reservoir of 10 million backer emails and AI tech has also reduced ad costs, building larger prelaunch audiences. Engaging Backer Communities Will highlighted the importance of integrating with backer communities on crowdfunding platforms. This engagement has vastly increased the number of deals, from 15 in 2015 to 100 in 2016. They run Facebook and Instagram ads before the campaign to build up a list and achieve a 4% average conversion rate. Their reservation funnel model, inspired by Tesla, has significantly increased engagement and conversion rates. Lessons from Scaling Scaling LaunchBoom came with its challenges, from dealing with countless samples and prototypes to keeping morale high through camaraderie and focus. Will shared stories like delivering products to campaign managers for testing and experiencing space issues at home due to the influx of boxes, which his wife was not thrilled about! Upgrading Technology and AI Plugins Will explained how he upgraded the tech stack at LaunchBoom, adding AI plugins to speed up Kickstarter and Indiegogo launches. This update significantly reduced the time and cost associated with campaign launches. By leveraging AI, they managed to expedite processes and improve the overall client experience. One-to-Many Coaching Model The one-to-many coaching model allows clients to benefit from each other's questions and support. This setup is not only cost-effective but provides a platform where everyone learns more collectively. Will's programs are affordable, priced under $10,000, without any commission. He emphasized that this model helps in fostering a supportive community of like-minded creators. Crowdfunding as a Validation Tool Will discussed the importance of using crowdfunding to validate and test consumer product ideas. LaunchBoom specializes in helping tangible hardware and consumer products succeed on platforms like Kickstarter and Indiegogo. Crowdfunding allows entrepreneurs to presell products, minimizing risk and gauging demand early on. Will called it a "no-brainer" for anyone looking to launch a new product. Future Prospects and Concluding Thoughts Will Ford's motivation comes from his passion for helping people and his excitement for building a global enterprise. Despite initial fears about the pandemic's impact on crowdfunding, LaunchBoom saw substantial growth. Will's openness to learning and innovation in this space has positioned LaunchBoom for ongoing success. At the end of our chat, Will invited listeners to check out LaunchBoom for free educational resources and the option to connect with a team member. We wrapped up with mutual appreciation and well wishes, excited about future collaborations. If you're an aspiring entrepreneur or already in the product launch game, you'll find this episode full of actionable insights and inspiring stories. Be sure to give it a listen for a deeper dive into the world of crowdfunding and launching new consumer products. Thanks for tuning in, and until next time, keep hustling! Mark Pecota is the Co-Founder of LaunchBoom, the original and largest crowdfunding agency globally. He's also the author of the top-selling Amazon book "Crowdfunded," a guide covering the end-to-end crowdfunding process, which has held its top spot for over 3 years. Additionally, Mark co-hosts the Crowdfunded Summit, an event I've had the honor of keynoting several times and will be speaking at again from September 12th to 14th. Mark shares some invaluable insights tailored for inventors, startups, and small manufacturers. He delves into the mechanics of sales growth before and during a crowdfunding campaign for new hardware products. Mark also sheds light on the online advertising tools instrumental in driving sales, while highlighting the best practices to optimize your return on advertising investment when selling your novel invention through platforms like Kickstarter or Indiegogo. Here are some key points from the discussion: Crowdfunding serves as a potent avenue to bring hardware products to fruition. The beauty of crowdfunding lies in generating pre-orders, with the funds earmarked for manufacturing. A crucial misconception is assuming that products on crowdfunding platforms will naturally gain immense traction. Establishing a robust pre-launch strategy is pivotal to leverage crowdfunding algorithms. Harness advertising to cultivate email subscriber lists. Facebook stands out as the primary platform for launching new products, both in pre-launch and during crowdfunding. The cornerstone is consistent, scalable, and high-quality traffic. In the pre-launch phase, the focus is on constructing a meticulously curated email list. During the live campaign, the goal shifts to driving actual sales. Accurate targeting is vital, with Facebook audiences revolving around user interests. Utilize Facebook's suggestions to build a comprehensive list of user interests. The visual content of ads holds paramount importance, with the creative element (photo or video) being particularly critical. Crafting scroll-stopping ads is a key strategy. When choosing Facebook objectives, prioritize those yielding tangible ad results over awareness campaigns. Welcome to the LaunchBoom Podcast. This is where we explore the journeys of creators, founders and entrepreneurs journeys in their product launches. This podcast is hosted by Kevin Liang, LaunchBoom's Product Launch Director. In the international best seller, Good to Great, Jim Collins and his research team reviewed in depth 6,000 articles, generated more than 2,000 pages of interview transcripts and created 384 megabytes of computer data in a five-year project to dissect what specific characteristics made good companies great.  In his 2,000 pages of interview transcripts, these were some questions that were asked consistently: What was happening when you were there during the pivotal moments? How did you know, what was the point of breakthrough? The executives responsible for the “breakthroughs” repeatedly responded with:  “I don't get the question. There was no miracle moment. There was no breakthrough. It wasn't as dramatic as it sounds. It was a gradual process. More of an awakening that happened in steps.” The way achievement is viewed from the outside is different from the way it actually feels on the inside even though you can see the inflection point from the outside looking in. It's a series of continuous good decisions, supremely well executed, disciplined thought processes that added up one upon another that over a long period of time created a great result. In this podcast, we explore the mental models and processes these individuals use daily. In other words, how do they think? How do they deal with fear + doubt? What are the things they do or think about on a daily basis that lead to positive results over time.  I'll wrap up with a quote from the author of one of the most impactful books I've personally read: Steven Pressfield. He says: “Our job in this life is not to shape ourselves into some ideal we imagine we ought to be, but to find out who we already are and become it.” -Steven Pressfield

How did MÄNNKITCHEN raise millions on crowdfunding platforms? By finding a need and creating a solution. How many cranks does it take you to pepper a steak using your pepper mill? Probably dozens, right? For MÄNNKITCHEN Founder Cleve Oines, it was around 70 pepper cranks one day when he realized there was a problem. Why wasn't there a better pepper mill on the market? One for a man like him? That's when Cleve Oines saw the future of grinding pepper — The Pepper Cannon. "786 days, 54 revisions, 11 prototypes, 82 tests, and 4,673 sneezes later," the MÄNNKITCHEN Pepper Cannon was born. "Grinds faster than a roadrunner, feels like a lightsaber handle in solid aluminum…It may even replace my beloved Unicorn, which I've been loyal to for 14 years," J. Kenji Lopez-Alt said in "The Food Lab" of the New York Times. Cleve Oines was a guest on the Digital Hospitality podcast where he talked about making millions of dollars using crowdfunding sites like Kickstarter and IndieGoGo, and successfully marketing products on social media. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KL9IWyMoXDs • You can watch the full interview on our Cali BBQ YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/KL9IWyMoXDs   Mannkitchen Pepper Cannon — The Pepper Cannon by Mannkitchen raised more than $1.1 million from 6,887 backers on Kickstarter alone. The success of the company's crowdfunding campaigns was thanks to part to help from and crowdfunding marketing company LaunchBoom. LAUNCHBOOM INTERVIEW: https://calibbq.media/will-ford-interview-launchboom-crowdfunding-dh109/ "In my first campaign, I raised like $50,000 for a chef knife, and that was awesome. Doubled my goal. And it was successful in my mind," Cleve Oines shared on the Digital Hospitality show. "And then we did the Pepper Cannon and blew that one out of the water. The main difference was attending that (Crowdfunded Summit) and learning from the people at LaunchBoom. The products that Männkitchen sells are built to solve cooking problems, whether its a demand for a bigger, stronger chef's knife, or the need for a super-powered pepper mill. WATCH: Pepper Cannon on YouTube https://youtu.be/miz20QRTY-s   "If you can't say in 10 seconds what problem your product is solving, it's going to be a it's going to be a tough sell," Cleve Oines said. • Mannkitchen Online: https://mannkitchen.com/ • Mannkitchen on Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/mannkitchen/ *** CALI BBQ MEDIA LINKS – ➤ Subscribe to Restaurant Influencers Podcast — https://link.chtbl.com/RIpodcast ➤ Free Digital Media Coaching Application — https://forms.gle/cnQ3sefMcAxQXbKa6 ➤ Podcast Archive — https://calibbq.media/podcast-episodes ➤ Cali BBQ Blog — https://calibbq.media/blog Phone First Name Last Name Email Address Phone Would you like to book a free consultation to go over your Digital Hospitality? Will Ford decided it was time to help others reach their dreams. The serial entrepreneur's latest mission? Launchboom. “At Launchboom we focus on everything that happens in preparation for the launch,” the crowdfunding expert said on the Digital Hospitality podcast. Watch the full interview now on our YouTube channel. https://youtu.be/F37OHM2zKEs “Through Facebook and Instagram advertising, we're trying to pre-sell the presale on Kickstarter, on Indiegogo, and we're able to do this by building lead funnels and reservation funnels.” Will Ford is a man not afraid to chase his dreams and share his tale of the tape. You'll learn a lot from this interview. Let us know what are some of your takeaways from the conversation in the comments or by emailing podcast@calibbq.media. ➤ Launchboom Online — https://www.launchboom.com/ ➤ Will Ford on LinkedIn — https://www.linkedin.com/in/will-ford-6b48a94/ ➤ Subscribe to Digital Hospitality — https://calibbq.media/podcast-episodes While Kickstarter provides entrepreneurs the platform to bring their idea to market, the question is, how do you even know if there is a market? Rather than have the entrepreneur spend valuable time and money on making their idea a reality before knowing if anyone actually wants it, Launchboom does the legwork to market your idea to an ideal audience and build a buy-in before your presale. “It's just a smarter, safer way to validate demand and generate thousands of new loyal customers in a short amount of time,” says Launchboom President Will Ford. “When I say short amount of time, it's usually about a six to nine-month process from all the prep work to the live launch and then the continuation of that presale.” Yes, in the same time it takes a baby to pop out, Launchboom can have the consumer and campaign information to let you know if your baby of a business idea is ready for the market. LaunchBoom Approach to Crowdfunding — The LaunchBoom approach stems from devising a digital demand to know who wants your product before it's too soon or too late. “We create a ton of content at launch from studios here internally,” shares Will Ford on Digital Hospitality. “We'll create dozens of Facebook and Instagram ads towards specific audience groups that we think are the ideal customers. Then we spend a lot of our time micro-testing to find the ideal demand so we can really understand that customer to create the best offer possible so that we can create a ton of excitement before we launch a Kickstarter campaign.” What's the best-case scenario from all this intel? It's what Will likes to call the Launchboom effect. “We get entire campaigns funded within minutes because we've already created the engagement,” smiles Will. This unique approach to entrepreneurship comes from an understanding of online marketing and Will's own career building businesses. For those in the idea biz, Will can make your physical product pop in the digital world. “Products that generally perform super well through Launchboom are physical and tangible” notes Will. “Like hardware, food, goods, products like that.” Funny enough, Will does not advise using Launchboom with the same enthusiasm when it comes to innovating in the actual digital world. “I have a lot of people that come to me saying they want to launch an app or software development company and those deals are a lot more challenging,” admits Will. “Those generally don't check out and work that well.” For Will's new base of clientele, Launchboom couldn't have come at a better time. For Will himself, it's better late than never. “Before crowdfunding I was the guy who had the product,” recalls Will. “You had to go figure out manufacturing, how to put all this money and time and resources into launching that product. I'd better be right, because if I'm wrong, I'm the guy upside down before I even get started. I've been there before, and that's a tough place to be." "So,

Dr. Chris Duff is the Director of Platform & Community at FundRx, an early-stage healthcare venture capital firm.   He is a doctor-by-training with marketing expertise across a wide range of industries.   Fun fact here - One of the industries include selling chicken coops online.   In this podcast, Chris and I discuss his journey from completing medical school at the University of Illinois to becoming a director at FundRx   We also discussed how he avoided his sunk cost fallacy and was able to objectively evaluate what he enjoyed and did not enjoy   Which ultimately led to him to be 1 of 200 people in his class of medical students to take the lesser-taken path of not pursuing a residency and blazing his own trail to his current dream job.   Chris also shares his massive failures in his first and second businesses prior to starting from scratch to acquire his digital marketing skillset   I really enjoyed my conversation with Chris. Please enjoy!   _____   Previously, he led campaign strategy for LaunchBoom, one of the most well-known marketing agency specializing in crowdfunding campaigns on Kickstarter and Indiegogo.   He also co-founded Physiologic Technology, which utilized existing smart scale technology to help physicians administer individualized diuretic-dosing instructions at low cost.   Chris holds both his M.D. and an undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois, where he graduated with Highest Honors.
