Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992) is a psychological horror film directed by David Lynch, serving as a prequel to the TV series Twin Peaks. The movie explores the final days of Laura Palmer, the troubled high school student whose murder sets off the events of the show. The film is split into two parts. The first follows FBI agents investigating the murder of Teresa Banks, another young woman killed under eerily similar circumstances to Laura's future demise. This section introduces the mysterious and supernatural forces at play, including the malevolent entity known as BOB, who inhabits human hosts. The second half shifts to Laura Palmer's perspective, depicting her unraveling mental state as she struggles with the horrifying reality of her abuse, drug use, and the overwhelming sense that something is closing in on her. As Laura's paranoia and self-destructive behavior escalate, she is caught in a web of supernatural horror and psychological torment, culminating in her brutal murder at the hands of her father, Leland Palmer, who is possessed by BOB.Subscribe and stay tuned for more chills and thrills!Keep up with all things cool about Steve here: stevegergleyauthor.wordpress.comMallory Smart's writing and random publishing projects can be checked out here: mallorysmart.comTo check out more information about That Horrorcast, take a look at our website: thathorrorcast.com Twitter: @horrorpod666 Theme from Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (Angelo Badalamenti)
This is the semi-autobiographical musical story of Joe Gideon (Roy Scheider), a legendary choreographer/director struggling with various addictions as he juggles developing a new stage musical and editing a film he has directed. And it was directed by legendary choreographer/director Bob Fosse (Cabaret, Lenny) who at the time was dealing with many of the struggles when he wasn't winning multiple Tony Awards and Oscars. It was a true passion project which also attracted a passionate response as it did well at the box office, received mass acclaim, and was also nominated for multiple Oscars including for Best Picture. Scheider was also nominated for Best Actor that year, leading a very talented cast including Ann Reinking, Leland Palmer, Cliff Gorman, Ben Vereen, and Jessica Lange. Jam-packed with several sequences which can be described as sad, sexy, sordid, and joyous, it was quite the original cinematic experience....IT'S SHOWTIME FOLKS!Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a texthttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Immortalized as Leland Palmer in David Lynch's Twin Peaks (in 1990-91, 2017 and in the 1992 prequel feature), Ray Wise has appeared in hundreds of movies and TV shows...and he still loves what he does. He tells Leonard and Jessie that he set his sights on being a professional actor in the fourth grade. That goal was met years ago, with roles on such TV series as Love of Life, The Young and the Restless, 24, The Reaper (as The Devil) and Fresh Off the Boat, along with movies like Swamp Thing, X-Men: First Class and Good Night and Good Luck. He even voiced Commissioner Gordon in the latest Batman animated feature, Batman: The Killing Joke. Ray is a delight to talk to and the living definition of the term “working actor.” His latest feature, now available on VOD, is King Knight with Matthew Gray Gubler.
Last week, we caught up with the mysterious disappearances of Agents Desmond and Jeffries, and learned about life at the Fat Trout Trailer Park. Now, in Part 2 of our discussion of Fire Walk with Me, we time-jump from Deer Meadow to a pre-Cooper Twin Peaks in order to learn about the darkness that bubbled up to claim the Prom Queen. In this very special Special, Jennifer looks at a Laura Palmer being psychologically torn in two; Colin laments the tragedy of all those who failed her; Jonathan confronts the humanity of Leland Palmer; and Damon puzzles out some of the loose threads from end of Season 2. “Glory” premiered on April 30th 2019, and marks the halfway point to the acclaimed mini-series. It was written by Tracey Scott Wilson and directed by Jessica Yu. We see two moments of choreography in this episode, the first is the rehearsal sequence featuring the infamous Manson trio, originally choreographed by Fosse and reconstructed by Lloyd Culbreath and Pam Sousa. The second is the nightmare “Pippin medley” that acts as the finale to the episode, choreographed by Joan McCracken herself, Susan Misner. All of our music this episode comes from the musical Pippin, with all music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. The cast of Pippin features Ahmad Simmons as Ben Vereen, Lindsay Nicole Chambers as Leland Palmer, Bahiyah Hibah as Candy Brown, and Alexis Carra as the fictional Sherry (said to be based on the experiences of original cast member Jennifer Nairn-Smith). Also in the cast are Nina Lafarga, Peter Chursin, Emma Caymares, Paloma Garcia-Lee, Tessa Grady, Colin Bradbury, Michael Hartung, Raymond Baynard and Michael McArthur. At the premiere of his film Cabaret, Bob is weighed down by the memory of his flop Sweet Charity three years earlier. But when the reviews come in they call Cabaret a masterpiece, meaning Bob has a “blank check” in the entertainment industry. So in the rehearsal room for Pippin Bob follows his gut. Calling the script “boring and small,” he chooses to “blow the whole thing up” both by demanding script changes and conspicuously sleeping with the entire female ensemble. That is, except for the one dancer avoiding his advances - a young woman named Annie Reinking. Gwen drops by Pippin rehearsal to confide in Bob that the show is in trouble, but he finds himself too wrapped up in his own career to make time for hers. Gwen is ready to move onto the next project - and has already secured the rights to turn the play Chicago into a musical. But Bob has a lot of job offers after this and can’t guarantee Chicago is the next thing he wants to do.” On top of her career, things are sleeping away in Gwen’s personal life as her best friend Joan Simon is in the hospital with only a month to live. Bob is pressuring the authors to change the ending of Pippin, for the title character to choose lighting himself on fire rather than fall in love. He’s also making his power known in his courting of the female ensemble: taking away a featured spot in the show’s “Manson Trio” from a dancer who won’t sleep with him and giving it to Annie, who “knows she doesn’t have to visit his hotel room to get the solo.” Months later, Bob calls Gwen at 3am asking her to come to Washington DC and help him fix the end of the show. In bed with her new boyfriend, she hangs up on him. But in the following year as he wracks up Tony, Emmy and Oscar Awards for Best Direction, he conspicuously thanks “a good friend of mine, Gwen Verdon,” for her contributions. But it’s been 13 years since she won her last Tony Award, and spending time at home with their daughter just isn’t enough for a woman who “won’t rest until she knows she has it all.” Bob is on his own downward spiral though. Much like the title character in Pippin, Bob is looking for something fulfilling - completely fulfilling. In a fever dream, Ben Vereen, Paddy, Gwen and his female conquests taunt Bob to jump out his hotel room window, with Gwen saying “the ones who die young, they’re the ones who live forever. If you do this, you’ll eclipse me, you’ll eclipse everyone.” But it’s the thought of their daughter Nicole that keeps him from jumping, much to the chagrin of the voices in his head. **Deals with sensitive subject matter. Listener discretion advised** In this special episode, we delve a bit deeper into the confusing questions that arose at the end of the last: namely, who is the true killer of Laura Palmer? Was this really a case of demonic possession? How culpable is Leland Palmer in the abuse and murder of his daughter? And who really is BOB? Notes: For more information, we cannot recommend Joel Bocko's incredible video essay "Journey Through Twin Peaks" enough! Here is his entry on the killer's reveal While we're hesitant about any strict, dogmatic interpretations of Twin Peaks, the charges of misogyny leveled at both it and David Lynch in general have stuck around long enough to warrant mention here. Here is an essay that discusses it in relation to Laura's death and the reveal of Leland as her killer:

The series belatedly tries to portray the town of Twin Peaks as not just a handful of horny weirdos but a real community of quirky, horny weirdos of all ages who care about each other. The funeral places nearly every character together and turns the decades-long feud between the doddering mayor and his serial marrying brother into comedy, or at least a few minutes of stuff that happens, that you watch, and that you then go about living your life without it having touched you more than superficially. Speaking of comedy, isn't mental illness funny? Sure it is, and that's why Big Ed Hurley and Dr. Jacoby get 40-something Nadine enrolled in high school, since she's mentally regressed to that of a teenager. Catherine tells Sheriff Truman what happened to her during and after The Great Mill Fire of 1990, and seems to have rekindled her faith in things Jesusy and not emanating from the forest. Give a man to open a can of tuna and he'll eat for a day, but TEACH a man to open a can of tuna and..oh, never mind. In the Subplots We Dislike Dept, Long and Slightly Bent Dicky Tremaine wants to be a father, but really isn't cut out for it, as he doesn't notice how dangerous it is for pregnant Lucy to be on the ladder. Did you know that Clarence Williams III only ever said, “Solid!” on The Mod Squad? Here in 1991 he gets to say, “Suspended!” about Agent Cooper, and, while a not great acting opportunity, it did serve to end racism for 1991-1992. It came back, but hey, baby steps. The creators of the show decide that even if she's not going to be romantically linked to Agent Cooper, there's not much use in keeping Sherilyn Fenn in bulky sweaters, so she turns on the sex appeal again to flirt and conspire with Bobby Briggs. She gets him a brief, seemingly unproductive meeting with Ben Horne, but it's good enough for him to offer to treat her to some ice cream, which is where we get the title of this podcast episode. The Trooper or Cooman ‘shippers will enjoy the sheriff giving Dale a goodbye fly lure and Bookhouse Boys patch, but don't expect a Truger ‘ship anytime soon, since Truman tells Roger he can take his cooperation and stuff it. And remember, you can't spell cooperation without Cooper. The M.T Wentz secret restaurant critic storyline comes to a conclusion as Vivian confesses to Norma that she's Wentz, and she can't violate her professional ethics to give the Double R a good review. Good parents are at a premium in Twin Peaks. Jean Renault and Hank force old con man Ernie into not only helping them launder money but also get him to partake in his vice of gambling again. And we see that Mountie who looks like William Atherton but isn't, is in cahoots with Renault. It's not all doom and gloom in the room of Truman, as a knackered Josie Packard comes back to her khaki-slacked macker's shack and hits the sack. Finally, Cooper takes his suspension in stride, or at least in forest, as he and Major Briggs enjoy a bit of fishin', campin' and philosphizin', before Cooper whizzes below an owl (illegal in Kentucky) and then there's some white light, a hooded figure, and go fig, no Briggs. Ian and Dave embark on season two of Twin Peaks. In episode eight, on top of having just been shot, Cooper is visited by a spectral giant who makes cryptic predictions. Albert returns to town to investigate Cooper's shooting and deliver some news about Cooper's ex-partner, Maddie is having strange nightmares, and Leland Palmer undergoes something of a transformation after his murder of Jacques. In episode nine, the Horne brother continue to scheme, Audrey continues to get out of her depth at One-Eyed Jacks, and the Scooby Gang sing a song for apparently no other reason than to annoy Dave. Also the Twin Peaks tree of douchebaggery is laid out and there is much discussion of cheese.

The guys are once again in the same room, encased in the middle of a heat wave, surrounded by a world on fire. Dramatic? Yes, but no worries because it is time, once again, for another installment of Podcast From Another Place with Stevil, Drex, DemiGod Rob and Dustin Collins! The show does a massive shift this week after last weeks huge episode. The wake for Leland Palmer becomes a very sentimental and reminiscent event and Coop prepares to leave Twin Peaks now that the case of Laura Palmer is closed. The show start to derail a bit for the guys with the Nadine getting enrolled in high school storyline. It signifies the beginning of the end of the series or at least the start of a large lull period (we're looking at you runaway story in the future episodes, James!). At least we still have that Windom Earle stuff coming up! Join the guys as they continue down the trail of Twin Peaks, coming to the inevitable showdown at the Black Lodge!
Ray Wise is a fan of monsters in the movies, and has played his own share of them...including Leland Palmer. Last August, Fire Talk With Me producer (and Electric Shadow host) Moisés got a few precious minutes with Ray to talk about Twin Peaks, Swamp Thing, and the roles he still hungers to play. As a bonus, hear Ray record the show intro you now know so well...and in a single take. Scheduling our very special guest for the podcast covering the final episode of the TV show has proven tricky. We were going to hold this interview for later, but here it is to tide you over until we have a new, "proper" episode.
David, Zachary, Tyler, and Razzle are joined this week by special guest & pièce de résistance Retta to chat about Olivia Pope, KITT, John Locke, Gaius Baltar, Shane Vendrell, Joffrey Baratheon, Leland Palmer, Mr. Burns, and much more as they pick their favorite TV heroes and villains.
For this episode we have Mr. Leland Palmer himself, Ray Wise! We caught up with Ray while he was in town for the World Premiere of his new film Suburban Gothic at the Fantasia Film Festival. We spoke to Ray about his role in the horror comedy Suburban Gothic, and about the new Twin Peaks : The Entire Mystery box set, which is finally available on blu ray today. The set includes both the US and International pilots, both seasons of the show, the Fire Walk With Me prequel, including 90 minutes of cut scenes, and a brand new sequence filmed by David Lynch.
