So, Mormonism doesn't have the best reputation on this show. And honestly, given their policies toward queer people, that's not exactly surprising. But, there are some people working within the religion trying to make it more inclusive and open-minded. One of these groups is Understanding Sexuality, Gender, and Allyship - or USGA - a support group that gave queer students at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah a place to find community. And one of the people that went there religiously (see what I did there?) is AJ Romriell, a US-based writer who also happens to be the partner of former Lost Spaces guest Terrance O'Brien Henderson. We got together to talk about why that group was so vital for AJ, and particularly the significance of it being allowed to meet on campus... until suddenly, it wasn't. But I'll let AJ tell you more about that. I'm hearing propaganda that being queer or trans is being "pushed" onto kids. There's an important distinction between having information about actual human diversity available to people and pushing people into making decisions about a very fluid experience. Queer and trans people have existed since people have existed, natural human diversity is more fluid and spectrum than white supremacy culture's binary thinking deluded people into believing. On Today's Episode…   "Queer People's Pain | Upper Echelon Pain" is a compelling video that delves into the distinct challenges faced by queer individuals and the exceptional resilience we exhibit. Join me in this exploration of the emotional and societal complexities that often accompany the queer experience.   In this video, I examine the societal factors that contribute to what I refer to as "Upper Echelon Pain" within the queer community. I shed light on the discrimination, prejudice, and microaggressions reinforced by overt religiosity and heteronormativity that queer individuals often encounter and the toll it takes on their mental, emotional, and physical well-being.   Through this dialogue, I aim to foster empathy, understanding, and ally-ship. Whether you identify as queer, an ally, or someone seeking insights into the queer experience, this video offers valuable perspectives that can lead to positive change.   Join me in acknowledging the strength and courage it takes for queer individuals to navigate a world that doesn't always embrace us fully. Watch "Queer People's Pain | Upper Echelon Pain" and be a part of the movement towards a more compassionate and inclusive society.   Let's Talk About Us!     LINKS:   FULL EPISODE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdrbaCgzoR0&t=19s   ==============================================================================   Merch:   Uche's Merch: https://uches-merch.creator-spring.com   ==============================================================================   Socials:   Instagram: @uc_images https://www.instagram.com/uc_images/ @LetsTalkWithUche https://www.instagram.com/letstalkwithuche/   Facebook: @LTAUwithUche https://www.facebook.com/LTAUwithUche   Twitter: @LTAUwithUche https://twitter.com/LTAUwithUche   TikTok: @LTAUwithUche https://www.tiktok.com/@ltauwithuche?_t=8V5M407eHqY&_r=1   LinkedIn: @LTAUwithUche https://www.linkedin.com/in/ltauwithuche/   Email: letstalkwithuche@gmail.com   Anchor: https://anchor.fm/uche8   LinkTree: https://linktr.ee/LetsTalkAboutUsWithUche   Website: TheUche.com     ==============================================================================   PLEASE SUPPORT (Thank you):   PayPal: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/LTAUwithUche?country.x=US&locale.x=en_US   CashAPP:  $benjamin139922   Patreon (Thank you): https://patreon.com/user?u=84174215&utm_medium=clipboard_copy&utm_source=copyLink&utm_campaign=creatorshare_creator&utm_content=join_link   ==============================================================================   #Queer #LGBTQ #LGBTQCommunity #Pain #MentalHealth #Allyship

This month, hosts Christina Cauterucci, Jules Gill-Peterson, and Bryan Lowder reflect on the painful impact of anti-LGBTQ violence and dig into the new possibilities for trans storytelling and filmmaking. First, they talk through their complicated feelings about one of the responses to the shooting at Club Q in Colorado Springs last month: Should queer people be organizing in self-defense, or even arming ourselves for protection? Then they are joined by actress Jen Richards who portrays Barbara in Framing Agnes, a new documentary, directed by Chase Joynt, which is centered on six trans people who were interviewed and treated at a UCLA gender clinic in the 1950s. The film combines reenactments of those interviews with contemporary conversations with trans actors reflecting on how the lives of the people they portray resonate with their own lives. In 1871, Germany adopted an anti-sodomy statute called Paragraph 175. Sixty years later, the Nazis broadened that law—and it quickly became the basis for persecuting Germany's queer population. When World War II ended, Paragraph 175 remained on the books. Dr. W. Jake Newsome joins Jonathan to discuss queer Germans' experiences of Nazi rule and its aftermaths, the history and legacy of the pink triangle, and how this pivotal moment in queer history bears on today. CW: This episode references racist, anti-Semitic, and homophobic ideology, and bodily harm. W. Jake Newsome, Ph.D. is an award-winning scholar of German and American LGBTQ+ history whose work educates global audiences.
