Lisa MacIsaac of Madison Violet is launching a new concert series meant to spotlight woman and gender diverse artists... and promote equality in the music industry.
Lisa MacIsaac, a Juno-nominated Nova Scotia musician and member of Madison Violet is about to embark on the 'Small of My Heart' songwriter circle tour. This series of shows, spanning from February to May 2024, is more than just a concert—it's a movement celebrating award-winning women and non-binary artists and advancing their place within the Canadian music industry. Lisa shares her experiences in songwriter circles, both as a participant and now as a host. She describes these gatherings as magical events where artists share songs and stories, drawing inspiration from one another in a live, dynamic environment. This is all about the unique energy of these circles, and how each show is different, influenced by the artists' interactions and the audience's feedback.https://bansheeco.ca/

Today's show features a story of trauma that is really difficult to hear. This might be the most intensely emotional episode of this show so far, and it's one that many listeners might find difficult and disturbing. It is a story about a young boy who was sexually abused by a Catholic priest and the devastating effects that it had on the boy and his family. If these topics might be difficult for you, or you have a strong attachment to the Catholic church, this might not be the episode for you. This story came to light in a powerful new song and video by Madison Violet (madisonviolet.com) Brenley MacEachern's brother Stevie. On September 22, 2021, Brenley posted on social media: Fifteen years ago today, my brother Stevie was strangled to death in a stairwell, between the 12th and 14th floor of an apartment building on Alexander Street in Toronto. Of course, that was just a small part of the string of bad luck following Stevie around; unlucky 13 on the last day of his life just summed it all up, I suppose. … It's been so hard and anxiety-inducing to decide to share Stevie's story. This video has only been out in the world for a day so far. Already the support and the stories messaged to us have strengthened my conviction that telling the truth and ending the stigmas around abuse, can help set us free. The effect that the abuse had on Stevie led to his life unravelling and spiralling out of control, and leading to his murder. Although Stevie is the one who suffered through the abuse, his loving family members suffered a different kind of trauma, watching a beloved family member struggle so visibly. Rightly, Brenly is emotional telling this story. She also carries and conveys a lot of anger towards the perpetrator and an organization that seems rife with such stories. Again, this episode, especially the second half, may not be for everyone. If you or someone you know has experienced sexual assault, there are many mental health professionals that may be able to help. There are links to many great organizations on the Mental Health Resources page of flywithyourshadow.com. music credits and more info: https://wp.me/pdcjXL-7R

Madison Violet Hops In The Chair While On Tour!Aired Wednesday, 7 August 2019, 12:00 PM EST / 9:00 AM PSTOn March 8th 2019, Madison Violet released their latest album “Everything’s Shifting”. The album is a heartfelt examination of how memory can splinter a heart, how loss shapes perspective and how sometimes, no matter how hard you try, you can’t have love without regret. It is an album to be listened to on the open road, with the windows rolled down: a love letter to their fans, from two wanderers who continue to follow the melodies wherever they lead.We are so excited to have them in the chair and hear the stories around the songs and their career.THEIR FIRST MUSIC VIDEO “TELL ME” HAS ALREADY HIT 1,000,000 VIEWS!About Lisa MacIsaac and Brenley MacEachernAfter 20 years together, Juno nominated singer-songwriting duo, Madison Violet, are as much wanderers as they are musicians. It is a career filled with endless roads stretching into the horizon, winding through changing landscapes, each kilometer traveled carrying with it the promise of inspiration. Perhaps that is the secret of what has made Madison Violet such an enduring band. Because with each new town, each new venue, their curiosity grows, their love of music deepens, their desire to push musical boundaries expands. It is believed that the spark that ignited Madison Violet’s irrepressible curiosity came from an unlikely source; while sitting in Brenley’s grandmother’s kitchen in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, filled to bursting with family, friends, instruments (and maybe even a foe or two), and miles from their adopted home of Toronto, Ontario, two musicians looked at each over the flickering light of the old wood stove and knew that theirs would be an unconventional journey. Inspired by their heritage, emboldened by their vision, Lisa MacIsaac and Brenley MacEachern decided that they would create a sound that would have it’s roots in their past while continually exploring new sounds. From the beginning, the multi-instrumentalists have carried authenticity with them like a talisman, writing all of their own music and lyrics, believing that the best way to connect to their audiences was to treat them like old friends sharing a secret and a smile. As vocalists they have an innate ability to break your heart, slyly knowing that their soaring harmonies will mend it, often all in the span of one song. The shared belief in themselves and their fearlessness to follow their dreams did eventually pay off and accolades and awards soon became synonymous with Madison Violet; including a Juno nomination, a Canadian Folk Music Award for Best Vocal Group Album of the Year and a Critic’s Choice Award from Country Music People’s Magazine. Their songs have been featured in the notorious music magazine MOJO’s Top 10 Playlist, and received a mass of acclaim from outlets such as the BBC, the CBC, Maverick Magazine and NPR, and have earned the duo the Grand Prize in the Maxell John Lennon Song Writing Contest (which was voted on by a panel of distinguished artists including Elton John, Tim McGraw, Black Eyed Peas, Fergie, John Legend, Enrique Iglesias and Mary J.Blige). Madison Violet were on Germany’s WDR’s list of ‘Best Bands of All Time’ and with a bit of a departure from their rootsy sound, their single ‘These Ships’ was released in 2014 on one of the largest dance labels in the U.S., Ultra Records, garnering over 1,000,000 plays on Spotify. Madison Violet has 9 studio albums to their credit including the new Christmas classic “Sleigh Bells in the Snow” featuring their friend and collaborator Ron Sexsmith, singing on Frosty the Snowman. For more info, visit: https://www.madisonviolet.com/

Hard to believe it’s already time for our Best of 2017 show on Canadian Musician Radio. In this episode, we revisit some of the highlight artist interviews from throughout 2017, featuring a diverse mix of names including Paul Shaffer, Hedley, Kid Koala, Ria Mae, George Canyon, D.O.A., Madison Violet, and Gord Bamford. Hear stories like how Shaffer was inspired to get back into the studio after his stint with David Letterman came to a close, the inspiration behind Kid Koala’s series of shows that had everyone in the audience mixing on a mini turntable, and how Madison Violet had some surprise songwriting help from Sam Smith.
Jon is back behind the mic for this episode. He remembers the late Bob Wallace and spins songs with the potential to ease the grieving process; there's an interview with Madison Violet in the middle of the show; and it wraps up with some fall songs, debuts from Drew McIvor and John Brownlow, and two of the greatest hits of all time in honour of Bob.
Brenley MacEachern and Lisa MacIsaac of Madison Violet have had a string of bad luck that’s tested them as individuals and creative partners. Their latest album, The Knight Sessions, is a response to those hardships and finds the duo stripping down their sound to its barest bones. Hear about how they overcame their challenges through music, how Sam Smith influenced the composition of their single “We Are Famous,” and more. Montreal’s Matt Holubowski has earned some considerable success in the Quebec market on the back of his debut album, Ogen, Old Man, which boasted a raw, lo-fi sound that put strong focus on his storytelling. With his new album, Solitudes, he’s incorporated more colour and depth but maintained the same candour. He speaks with Mike about his relatively quick rise, the evolution of his art, and more. And CD Baby’s VP of Marketing, Kevin Breuner, joins us to talk about why this is the best time for artists to be releasing new music, and the tools they can take advantage of to get it heard and monetized.

Today a chat with one of the greats, and one we’re excited to be welcoming back to town this week, Mary Gauthier. She’s headed in to reunite with her frequent backing band, Scott Nolan & Joanna Miller, as well as working on a book and awaiting the release of a new album. Lots to talk about. And following up on last week’s chat with Jaxon Haldane about The Willie P Bennett Legacy Project, we present our annual tribute to the late, great Willie P Bennett, who left this world on Feb. 15, 2008. I didn’t even know the guy, but I miss him terribly. There’s never a bad time to listen to a lot of his brilliant songs, but the anniversary of his death reminds me that I’ll do my best to never let the music be forgotten, and thankfully, folks like Jaxon are taking the cause to a whole new level.

Madison Violet's latest album, The Good In Goodbye, dropped back in September and we've been wanting to have them in for an Up Close session ever since. Due to their hectic schedule setting up a date to record Brenley MacEachern and Lisa MacIsaac wasn't easy but it was worth the wait.
We’ve got a bunch of new shows to preview and new music to enjoy. Plus, T-Bar’s back with some especially "interesting" T-Bar picks.

What started as a trio of musicians who played together for fun while students at Philadelphia's Curtis Institute for Music evolved into Time for Three, or Tf3 for short. Tf3 has performed on many of the nation's impressive stages, including the Mann Music Center in Philadelphia, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and Joe's Pub in New York. They have performed their own original works with over 60 orchestras. The group recorded will release its third CD, "3 Fervent Travelers."
