In this week's episode, Allie is joined by polymer clay artist Caitlin. Cait shares how she got started with clay, what it was like being creative and growing up with ADHD, and where her inspiration comes from. Meet my Guest!Ex's and Oh's was created in 2020 during a rough time in my life. Art was my way of coping. As a child, I took ceramic classes and was hooked on the texture and how the clay felt between my fingers (it was like a soothing mechanism). This was very therapeutic for me- I became addicted to making things, including earrings. I sold all 20 earrings I made on Facebook and couldn't believe people liked my creations. I had my first market in November 2020, and I remember meeting many incredible people- vendors and customers. They were the light. The light I have been searching for. So, thank you for allowing me to create something beautiful with a purpose. I quit my job in January 2022 to become an artist full-time. Since then, I have hosted markets for other local vendors, like myself, to connect with the art community. In May of 2022, I decided to put aside hosting markets due to having to decide between making art or creating a space for artists. I chose to make art- so here we are! It was the best decision for my family and me. So here's to jumping into the unknown and doing what I love!xoxo- Cait Connect with my Guest!Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/exsandohs_studio/Website: https://www.exsandohsstudio.com/Follow the Wandering Creatives Podcast:Instagram: @wanderingcreativespodTwitter: @wandering_podTwitch: https://www.twitch.tv/wanderingcreativeBe sure to like, subscribe, rate, and review!Do you have questions or comments? Owner of Stitch Morgantown, Angie Miller, joins Allie on today's episode to discuss her journey from running her Etsy shop to running a storefront shop in Morgantown, WV. We discussed what it was like to decide to open a storefront and what resources she used to do just that!More About My Guest:Hi, I am Angie Miller, owner of Stitch, mom to 10-year-old kiddo, and a 13 1/2-year-old black and tan mini doxie, Charlie. I spent over 13 years dedicated to hospice and home health nursing, and I don't want to let those skills get too rusty. I also still do some moonlighting as an RN in addition to my time at Stitch. Never know when I might need to call those nurse-y skills into action.Sewing and crafting have been a love that dates back much longer than being a nurse. My mom taught me to cross Stitch in 1st grade (age 7ish). I was envious of my friend, Vicki, who had entered a project in the local fair and won a ribbon. (I later found out she was very envious of some sweet grey suede loafers I possessed.) I wanted to learn so I could win a ribbon too! I continued to do local shows and sell on Etsy, but the dream of being able to do it full time was still just that...a dream. In 2014, amid a significant job change, I started working on an actual business plan and set a goal of making my dream a reality by turning 40 (which occurred in late 2018). On January 29th, 2018, Stitch Morgantown, LLC., officially opened its' doors for business!Connect with my Guest!Instagram: @stitchmorgantownWebsite:https://www.stitchmorgantown.com/Follow the Wandering Creatives Podcast: Instagram: @wanderingcreativespodTwitter: @wandering_podTwitch: https://www.twitch.tv/wanderingcreativeBe sure to like, subscribe, rate, and review!Do you have questions or comments? Raleigh, NC humor and children's book award-winning author, David Alan, joins Allie on today's episode to discuss his writing journey, the creation of his T-rextra series, and what's coming up next for him.Meet the Guest!David Alan is an author of children's and humor books. He writes children's books that he wished had existed when he was growing up. He is a big fan of children having the most fun, well-adjusted childhoods possible, and adults keeping a childlike sense of humor and wonder. His humor books are hilarious and border on the absurd.Several years ago, David's husband, Eric, jokingly named David" T-Rextra" because of his short arms and extra-ness. The name struck a good nerve, and the rest is history.David lives in Raleigh, North Carolina, with his husband Eric and their three babies (dogs), Natalia, Peach, and Angela Basset Hound. He is also proud Papa David to toddleenager Maci, quite possibly the most perfect little person to ever walk the earth. He also enjoys arts and crafts, watching too much TV, trivia, and making up silly songs to sing to the babies.Connect with my Guest!Instagram: @trextraextraWebsite: https://t-rextra.com/Facebook: @trextraAmazon Author's PageFollow the Wandering Creatives Podcast: Instagram: @wanderingcreativespodTwitter: @wandering_podTwitch: https://www.twitch.tv/wanderingcreativeBecome a Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/wanderingcreativesBe sure to like, subscribe, rate, and review!Do you have questions or comments? North Carolina Entrepreneur and co-founder of Dig and the subscription gardening box, The Dig Box, Hayley Figueroa joins Allie on today's episode to discuss the creativity behind gardening. Hayley also shares tips for starting a garden and how gardening can provide safe access to food. More about Hayley and co-founder Irma:We were homeschooling/unschooling moms who shared a love of gardening. Irma was a flower gardener and Hayley was a vegetable gardener. If you remember that commercial for a certain chocolate and peanut butter confection, it was something along those lines. Irma gave Hayley flower starts and Hayley gave Irma vegetable starts, and very shortly thereafter, both gardens were abundant and thriving. That was a few years ago…in the before times.Fast forward three years and we found ourselves gardening in the pandemic which felt very different. It felt more necessary and apparently, it felt that way to lots of people. Many people (maybe even you) decided to start a garden in 2020 because they were worried about having safe access to food. Sure, it was in the supermarket, but that meant you had to GO to the supermarket. A lot of those anxieties persisted and even more, people decided to start gardening in 2021. Seasoned gardeners were also affected, expanding their gardens, adding new plant varieties, and more growing spaces during quarantine and beyond. After many discussions about this and lots of DMs from anxious people, hitting our IGs, we realized that a garden subscription box could help new and seasoned gardeners alike and that's how Dig was born. Each month, high-quality tools, seeds, and accessories are delivered directly to your door. Who doesn't like receiving a box o' stuff? So, this is us, Irma & Hayley…Dig. Raleigh, NC chalk artist Taylor Harrington joins Allie on today's episode to discuss her journey from doodling chalk art at a local bar to completing 20 ft by 20 ft chalk murals and being able to quit working her 9-5 to do art full-time.Meet the Guest!Taylor is a Raleigh-based artist specializing in chalk and pen & ink. She began taking commissions in 2018 and made the leap to become a full-time artist in 2021. Taylor began her art career creating chalk pieces for couples on their wedding day after a local wedding planner saw her art at a brewery and asked her to help a couple create a piece for their wedding. Taylor grew this service in 2018 and 2019, working with couples to design and create large murals, welcome signs, and seating charts. She strives to work with couples to match their vision in both design and the lettering of their pieces. From there, she started expanding her local connections and recognition, leading to her chalk work with businesses and events that continues to expand to this day. Her chalk career flourished when Taylor joined the Raleigh Night Market in 2019 and brought live street chalk to the markets. She later became the Art Coordinator of Raleigh Night Market in 2021, bringing attractions such as live art and music to multiple events a month. As the market season wound down near the end of 2021, she began expanding her art career by taking commissions to draw house portraits. This is a skill stemming from when she was younger when she used to draw her own house from memory in her school notes. After her house portraits became a hit during the Christmas season of 2021, she started a series of drawings centered around iconic local landmarks in Raleigh. Expect to see additional chalk work at events, businesses, and weddings throughout 2022, and be on the lookout for her coming series of prints of local landmarks.Connect with my Guest!Instagram: @chalkbytaylorWebsite: www.chalkbytaylor.comFacebook: @ChalkByTaylorFollow the Wandering Creatives Podcast: Instagram: @wanderingcreativespodTwitter: @wandering_podTwitch: https://www.twitch.tv/wanderingcreativeBecome a Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/wanderingcreativesBe sure to like, subscribe, rate, and review!Do you have questions or comments? Author Sarah Maragh joins Allie on today's episode to discuss what it was like publishing her first book and working on a trilogy. Meet the Guest!Sarah is an author and is currently working on the Sequel and Prequel to her debut novel "Tales of the Ouroborus: An Adult Fairytale" which is available on Amazon.Sarah describes her book as a fairy tale within a fairy; here's a preview of her book,"There once was a family who was as happy as they could be. A father, a mother, and two young boys, one older, one younger. The younger brother, with eyes almost like witch-hazel and hair as dark as the richest of bee's honey. He was captivating and charismatic, and everyone, even their parents, favored him. The elder brother, though more beautiful, with eyes like the Jordan, olive features, and wavy hair as dark as the witching hour, was quieter. Because he was less forthcoming naturally, his family deemed him less trustworthy."Connect with my Guest!Instagram: @theblacksarahhAmazonFollow the Wandering Creatives Podcast: Instagram: @wanderingcreativespodTwitter: @wandering_podTwitch: https://www.twitch.tv/wanderingcreativeBecome a Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/wanderingcreativesBe sure to like, subscribe, rate, and review!Do you have questions or comments? As I layer and manipulate abstract gestural marks with crisp geometric lines, my work explores the in-betweens - the space between tension and calm, light and shadow, gestural and rigid marks, and the resistance and release of control.Opposing elements pull your eye across the panel allowing the viewer to travel in between elements as they seek stability in the chaos. Raleigh NC Cosplayer, Jenna Say What!? joins Allie this week to discuss how she got started with Cosplay, the challenges, and how it's impacted her life. Meet My Guest!Hi! I'm Jenna Say What?!? You may know me from my cosplays, but I am so much more than that. I started out modeling around 2010 with Blu Water Modeling. There I not only modeled but also helped out with the makeup alongside the talented Contessa.I went to NC Comic-Con back in 2012 in a Trashy.com Captain America Costume and TERRIBLY-made shield. I felt WAY too overwhelmed especially since I didn't feel I had the talent to make homemade cosplays so I stuck Cap back in the closet and decided never again. In 2014 I decided to give NC Comic Con one more try. I had purchased a Captain America Shield and decided to attempt sewing. My husband gave me a quick lesson on the machine and he left for a job, this meant I was on my own to try to make this outfit. For the first time, in probably my whole life, I felt powerful. I felt like I could take on everything and anything. This would eventually be something I used to battle my anxiety and depression. In March 2016 I would take my past to the C2E2 stage as It's Not Your Fault, a panel I created to talk about overcoming abuse and bullying through cosplay. It honestly meant a lot to me to debut it in my home state. I still to this day do my panel at conventions (mainly in the Carolinas) because I strongly believe that this panel is an important message to bring to conventions.Connect with My Guest!Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jenna_say_what/Website: http://www.jennasaywhat.com/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@jennasaywhatTwitch: https://www.twitch.tv/jennasaywhatTwitter: https://twitter.com/jenna_say_what/Follow the Wandering Creatives Podcast: Instagram: @wanderingcreativespodTwitter: @wandering_podTwitch: https://www.twitch.tv/wanderingcreativeBecome a Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/wanderingcreativesJoin us on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/wanderingcreativeBe sure to like, subscribe, rate, and review!Do you have questions or comments? Terrarium Creator and Founder of Bonsai Bottles, John Fitzgerald, joins Allie this week to discuss staying organized with multiple passions and projects and how being prepared and ready to take on new opportunities can lead to success.Meet My Guest!Bonsai Bottles came from humble and frustrating beginnings. My black tabby cat, Vader, mowed down most of my succulent and houseplant collection. At the same time, I was working in the Beer and Wine Industry and seeing many people buy bottles only to drain their sorrows and toss the bottle to repeat the process. These circumstances lead to years of honing the terrarium craft. The plants inside were protected from hungry house cats and provided a much lower maintenance greed decor than a traditional house plant. Thus Bonsai Bottles was born. After two years of creating my process and developing my craft, I formed Bonsai Bottles initially as a Pop-up Terrarium shop. As times changed and circumstances happened, I decided to offer Bonsai Bottles for online purchase and local pickup in the Raleigh area.
