Next up on the Pearl Jam 2025 tour is a stop in Raleigh, North Carolina. This is a destination that hasn't been played since this show we're covering in 2003, but that was never originally planned to be the case. On the 2016 tour, a show in Raleigh was cancelled due to the band's opposition to the HB2 law that discriminated against transgender people. It was something that caused a bit of commotion within this fanbase, and we'll get into all of what happened nine years ago, but after the bill was overturned the band felt they needed to make it up to this Raleigh crowd. And if this 2003 show is any indication, they might be in for a good one. 2003 is a favorite tour year for many due to the band truly elevating their game to the next level. Setlists started to become very fan friendly and collector heavy, Mike McCready became the showman that we know of him today, and no two shows were even close to the same. If you like Riot Act heavy shows, this is a good one for you. The deeper cuts such as Help Help, Cropduster and You Are are brought out here and all sound fresh for the same. Save You, I Am Mine and Love Boat Captain are also major highlights from this show, and you can tell which ones are gonna stick around throughout the duration of this North American run. There's also a great run at this show featuring four straight Vitalogy era songs, and we'll get into why these songs together may feel like a mini rock opera. Check out the episode for the full rundown of the setlist, a little talk of what's been going on out on tour and a few stories from the Florida shows and the 2003 Evolution yips! Nearly a decade ago, the State of North Carolina enacted HB2, the first statewide anti-trans bathroom bill introduced in the United States. It required transgender people to use public restrooms inconsistent with their gender identity, which sparked widespread political backlash and severe economic consequences. Estimates suggest the legislation costs the state almost $5 billion annually.   Since that time, nearly every state across the country has attempted to pass similar, or even more restrictive laws. In just the past two years, we've seen over 1,000 anti-LGBTQ+ bills - many of which target the lives and well-being of transgender children. As a result, a growing number of families are uprooting their lives and relocating to more supportive and affirming states.   While public policy over the past two decades has led to significant legislative wins for LGBTQ+ people – the freedom to marry, the ability to openly serve in the military, and protections against hate crimes - these basic freedoms are under siege, and this assault is having adverse impacts on our workplaces.   Many businesses have met these legislative efforts with formal rebukes from chambers of commerce, business advocacy organizations, and at shareholder meetings. Yet, many business leaders struggle with how to effectively communicate why pride at work is essential for their businesses to grow into the future. If you're among this group of leaders, you're in the right place.   Our featured guest, Erin Uritus is here to help. Erin is the CEO of Out & Equal, which is the premier nonprofit working to advance LGBTQ+ representation, equity, inclusion, and belonging in the workplace, and beyond. She is a passionate advocate for creating diverse and thriving workplaces where everyone can reach their full potential. During our conversation, you will:   ---Discover the alarming impact of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, which is causing a talent exodus and hindering business growth.  ---Gain insights from a recent Out & Equal report, Talent on the Move, revealing the needs and expectations of LGBTQ+ employees in today's climate. ---Explore actions business leaders can take to gain a competitive advantage by doing the right thing and investing in LGBTQ+ DEIB interventions to enjoy business growth.   Our conversation is designed to support people like you – visionary people leaders, and those on their way to joining us. We take a trip to what is now eight years in the past (extremely hard to fathom!) to cover Pearl Jam's show in Columbia, South Carolina. There are two major themes heading into this show. Firstly, this show was originally intended to take place a day after a show in Raleigh, North Carolina, which was canceled in protest of the state's HB2 law. The other big storyline heading into the show was the untimely death of rock 'n' roll legend, Prince, that was announced earlier in the day. With heavy hearts, the band set forth to pay tribute to a man who had given so much of his life to music, as Ed would call him, the most amazing guitar player he'd ever seen. This is another show where we get to talk about John's adventures and stories, so we'll dig deep into the two top stories that dominated conversation on this night. It was a set with a shared balance of the deep cuts like Oceans, Light Years, Marker In The Sand, Sleight Of Hand and All Those Yesterdays mixed in with massive showstopping performances of Lightning Bolt, Immortality, I Got Id, Rearviewmirror, Chloe Dancer/Crown Of Thorns and more. But one of the more peculiar things about this set is an OTOTO (one time, one time only) performance of the Into The Wild track, Rise. Done as a birthday dedicated to his mom Karen, this song has not been seen at a Pearl Jam show since. We'll dig deeper into a few songs during our Gear Guru segments where Javier will break down Lightning Bolt rarity, Infallible, and for the first time ever give a full breakdown of Crown Of Thorns. The Rebound Podcast with Coach Matt Doherty

Pat McCrory ran for Governor of North Carolina in 2008 and was defeated. He rebounded in 2012 and won. In 2016 he had to deal with the controversial HB2 bill. Then in 2016 Pat lost the reelection campaign to Democrat Roy Cooper. That race was too close to call. He conceded and yet there were claims of voter fraud. He is now rebounding by running for the NC Senate.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Day one of the 2021 Special Legislative Session saw several proposals introduced dealing with the legalization of adult use cannabis in New Mexico. There are competing bills in the House and Senate, known as the Cannabis Regulation Act (in the House it is House Bill 2, and in the Senate, Senate Bill 3). Both are being treated very differently, with HB2 getting two committee assignments and SB 3 being send straight to the Senate Floor. There is also a separate bill, Senate Bill 2, which deals with expungement of some cannabis-related crimes, if SB 3 or HB 2 were to pass. And, there are also pieces of the cannabis legalization in the so-called Feed Bill, House Bill 1. Additional appropriations were included to pay for aspects of running the legal cannabis market, again should HB 2 or SB 3 pass. That led to a lot of debate about whether or not it was right to be debating these things before a legal market is even approved. Our "Growing Forward" team breaks it all down for you, as it stands right now. We'll be back again tomorrow night with another recap of day 2. Greetings! It's good to be back after a lengthy hiatus. I've been gone for a while, mourning the loss of a friend, and had been finding it difficult to report about the ugliness in the news. But life goes on. I'm back and will continue to bear witness. Recently, 13 yr old Tyre King was gunned down by police as he ran away. Autopsy confirmed he was shot in the back. Wait 'til you hear how they treated his family who tried to visit him in the hospital on the night he was shot. Unarmed Terence Crutcher, known as Big Crutch, had car trouble. His car stalled in the middle of the road and he was shot to death by police almost immediately. A 19 yr old sex worker is at the center of a huge scandal involving the Oakland-area police. She claims she's had sex with at least 30 law enforcement officials throughout the San Francisco Bay area. Two former officers have already been charged and the investigation continues. In less than two weeks, two trans women have been murdered. T.T. Saffore, who was stabbed to death in Chicago. Crystal Edmonds was slain in Baltimore. Edmonds is the 21st trans woman murdered in 2016. Police in West Hartford, CT seize a protestor's phone and unknowingly record themselves conspiring to fabricate charges against him. Where are the good cops? North Carolina's governor has dropped a lawsuit asking the federal government to validate HB2, the "Bathroom Bill". And the latest news about the toxic water from Flint, Michigan. Airs Tuesday, Sept 20, 6pm Pacific.

Of all the recent "religious freedom" legislation passed around the country, perhaps none is so restrictive as North Carolina's "Act to Provide for Single-sex Multiple Occupancy Bathroom and Changing Facilities in Schools and Public Agencies and to Create Statewide Consistency in Regulation of Employment and Public Accommodations". The short version of the bill's name is the "Public Facilities Privacy & Security Act," but it quickly became infamous as HB2. Passed as a response to a non-discrimination ordinance enacted by the city of Charlotte, HB2 removed the protections under that law and others like it, attempted to redefine "sex" under the law, and barred transgender people from using restrooms on state property that conform to their gender. The legal and economic consequences to North Carolina were swift, but so far, neither the legislature nor the governor shows any willingness to overturn the bill. On this week's show, Jenn Wilson and Peggy Knudtson talk to Chris Brook, Legal Director of the American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina, about the ACLU's suit against the state.
